Super Bowl Eve Spotlight: Why Max Crosby On Super Bowl eve, the Detroit Lions Podcast zeroed in on Max Crosby as the most polarizing offseason swing. The chatter is not just in Detroit. The Bengals, Cowboys, Patriots, and Falcons have all been mentioned as alleged suitors. Crosby is 28, from Lapeer, Michigan, and came out of Eastern Michigan. He wins with power to speed, has some bend, and never stops. He is comfortable standing up, but he is better with his hand in the dirt. The case is rooted in run defense. The show framed Crosby as the best run-defending edge in football among the elite pass rushers. He owns two of the top ten seasons in NFL history for tackles for loss, in 2022 and 2023. That production sets an edge and closes lanes. It also travels to January. Sacks, TFLs, and Reality Check Crosby's sack totals do not always match his reputation. He had 10 this past season. He posted 7.5 in only 12 games in 2024. His peak was 14.5 in 2023, when he earned first-team All-Pro and piled up 23 tackles for loss. The Raiders have not consistently fielded another threatening rusher opposite him, which has amplified his workload and attention. That profile matters for the Detroit Lions. Pair Crosby with Aidan Hutchinson and Alim McNeill. Add Tyreek Williams, who quietly played well down the stretch, with Jack Campbell behind them. That front four controls tempo. It lets a defense rush with four, squeeze gaps, and dictate drives. The show pointed to the Houston Texans as proof of concept, noting how they almost never blitzed and still dominated both of their playoff games. Turnovers, not defense, flipped those outcomes. The All-In Price Tag There is a catch. Acquisition cost and opportunity cost headline the downside. This is an all-in move. The hypothetical package discussed mirrored the price “Green Bay” paid to get Micah Parsons: two firsts and a third. In this scenario, the Lions send their first this year and next, plus next year's third because they do not have a third this year. To balance that, the Raiders send back their pick at the top of the second round this year, sliding Detroit from pick 17 to around 33 or 34. The Lions would still keep their own second. A 2025 fourth this year may need to be added to make the math work. The upside is obvious. Crosby beside Hutchinson could make the Detroit Lions the NFC North favorite and a top seed contender. The risk is just as clear. Two firsts and more means fewer swings at premium talent, fewer cheap starters, and less flexibility if injuries hit. The debate is simple. How much is one of the NFL's most complete edges worth to a roster already built to win? #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #maxcrosby #aidanhutchinson #alimmcneill #tyreekwilliams #jackcampbell #rundefendingedge #tacklesforloss #fourmanrush #almostneverblitz #twofirstroundpicksandathird Learn more about your ad choices. “I take the blame on defense, we thought we earned it but it was a young mindset.” Jared Verse We love sports because it's all about the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat, but for the athletes who play the game, it's all the moments in between that truly impact one's journey and mindset. Heading into Super Bowl weekend, we look ahead to the big game with one of the most dominant young players in the NFL, LA Rams Jared Verse — the 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year and one of the league's most disruptive young edge rushers. Jared joins The Pivot Podcast for a deep-dive into the chess match called professional football. The young star breaks down how film study, technique, and a relentless motor have helped him terrorize NFL quarterbacks, rack up pressures and tackles for loss, and evolve into a true game-changer for the Rams' defense. We get into LA's last two season endings in heartbreak loss, going inside the mindset after his team's NFC Championship loss in Seattle as Jared opens up in a reflective and humbling tone about what went wrong, who's to blame and how to recover mentally from the disappointment. He talks about his MVP quarterback Matthew Stafford, leadership from Sean McVay and special advice from Aaron Donald that has changed his approach to the game. In opening up about this loss that still stings, and how this feeling will fuel his offseason preparation — from extra hours in the lab to the mindset tweaks that separate good defenders from great ones. Plus, he shares what it's like to learn from and compete with the best: the time he challenged Aaron Donald to a brutal one-on-one workout, came out the other side exhausted but inspired, and walked away with lessons on grit, fourth-quarter toughness, and the habits of elite defenders. Jared also talks about the defensive stars he studies, the moves and counters he's adding to his repertoire, and how guys like Donald, Myles Garrett, Micah Parsons, TJ Watt and others helped shape his approach — even facing San Fran's Trent Williams on his welcome to the NFL moment and how it woke him up to another level. He also shares his thoughts on his former college teammate Keon Coleman's struggles in Buffalo and what he thinks will come of it all. From film breakdowns to mental insight to edge rushing philosophy, teammate dynamics, and how the greats build a game against the very best — this is one of the most personal, candid reflections of a top athlete opening up on the highs and lows of playing sports at an elite level. Brian Gutekunst finally faced the media, and what he said—and didn't say—reveals a lot about where this organization stands heading into 2026. The GM didn't hide his frustration with a team that went from 25-8 in December and January during Matt LaFleur's first five years to a dismal 3-9 the last two seasons. But here's the uncomfortable reality: the Packers extended both their coach and GM before they even figured out what went wrong. This episode digs into the tension beneath the surface of Gutekunst's carefully chosen words. He made clear the roster had enough talent to win—even after losing Micah Parsons—which raises serious questions about coaching and execution. We break down his comments on Jonathan Gannon's defensive flexibility, push back hard on the lazy "young team" narrative the media keeps floating, and examine why Jordan Morgan needs to stop being treated like a utility player and start becoming a franchise left tackle. Plus, the ridiculous McManus discourse, what Gutekunst really thinks about the offensive line struggles, and why hearing "we'll figure it out" from this organization sounds way too familiar. The wait is finally over. After years of wanting to create dedicated NFL Draft content beyond just the Packers perspective, the Packernet Draft Room is officially live. This inaugural episode dives straight into a complete first-round mock draft for 2026, breaking down every selection from Fernando Mendoza's near-certain landing spot in Las Vegas to the final pick. This episode covers the premium position debate surrounding Arvell Reese at pick two and whether he's the next Micah Parsons or another Isaiah Simmons. The Cardinals face a franchise reset at pick three with offensive line being the smart play over a vanity wide receiver selection. The analysis continues through teams like the 49ers, who might be closer to complete implosion than anyone realizes, with aging weapons across the board and a defensive line in shambles outside of an injury-plagued Nick Bosa. The new call-in number for Draft Room specific content is 608-561-3243. NFL Draft fans are notoriously passionate and opinionated, and those takes are welcome here. This show runs year-round, not just during draft season, offering mock drafts, team breakdowns, prospect analysis, and everything the draft-obsessed fan craves. The Packers just made a massive move that flew under the radar, and it could change everything on defense. Ryan breaks down the hiring of former Bills defensive coordinator Bobby Babich as the new pass game coordinator and secondary coach under Jonathan Gannon. This isn't just another coaching hire—it's potentially the most overqualified defensive staff in NFL history, with multiple former defensive coordinators now working together in Green Bay. Ryan digs into Babich's coaching philosophy, his "SFP" mantra of simple, fast, and physical football, and how his approach to teaching simplicity could perfectly complement Gannon's complex schemes. Plus, learn why the Packers' shift toward more dime packages and three-safety looks could finally give pass rushers like Micah Parsons and Lukas Van Ness the extra half-second they need to wreak havoc. Also covered: the Browns hire Todd Monken, Bill Belichick's inexplicable Hall of Fame snub, Shrine Bowl standouts including potential Packers targets Brian Parker and Darrell Jackson Jr., and the latest NFL draft rumors heading into Senior Bowl week. The Pro Bowl voting system has officially jumped the shark. Ryan Schlipp delivers a passionate breakdown of how Shedeur Sanders—statistically one of the worst quarterbacks in the AFC—somehow earned a Pro Bowl nod over Trevor Lawrence's 4,200 yards and 32 touchdowns. The analysis doesn't stop there, with Jordan Love getting snubbed despite being the third-highest graded NFC quarterback and Mike Jackson's inexplicable omission from cornerback consideration. On the coaching front, the Titans hiring Brian Daboll as offensive coordinator means Adam Stenavich's lateral move opportunity has closed. Ryan explores the implications: if the Packers were willing to let him interview, does that signal he's expendable? Plus, Sean Mannion's meteoric rise from backup QB to potential Eagles offensive coordinator candidate could reshape Green Bay's staff. The episode concludes with a fascinating deep-dive into defensive philosophy and what Micah Parsons means for the Packers scheme. Ryan breaks down the math behind time-to-pressure versus time-to-throw, arguing that elite coverage extending throwing windows may be more effective than constant blitzing—a perspective that could change how you think about defensive aggression entirely.
