Thanksgiving dinner's impact on your health. Doc returns! National Stuffing Day!

Best of the Morning Sickness Podcast

Welcome to Friday! A couple of days off…then a short week…and then it's Thanksgiving! I don't know why, but I feel more excited for turkey day this year than I have been in awhile. It's not like we've got anything special planned. But for some reason, I'm a bit amped for the gluttony! Speaking of over-indulging on Thanksgiving, I took a look at the dinner's impact on your health, and also the things that make your home perfect for hosting Thanksgiving with the family/friends. Let you know what's on TV this weekend and what's new in theaters. Plus, Doc joined me just after 8am thanks to County Materials in Holmen to talk about this weekend's F1 race in Vegas and we also chatted about some of the shows coming to the area in the next few months. In sports, the Bills lost to the Texans last night to kick off Week 12 in the NFL, an update on Josh Jacob's condition, the Packers get flexed in Week 14, the Bucks lost in overtime last night to the 76ers, the Badger men's basketball is at #9 BYU this afternoon, and the football team takes the field against #21 Illinois tomorrow. Elsewhere in sports, Alexander Ovechkin continues to set records, and the Athletic Director at Baylor has stepped down and is under investigation….for something. Is it too soon for Christmas music? I would say yes…especially if it's constant. Now, if you toss in a rando Xmas tune every couple of hours…that's fine. But 24 hours of holiday music is too much for me right now. An update on a Superman comic that three brothers found in their mom's attic after she passed. Bath & Body Works is attempting to make a NYC subway smell like Christmas. A tip for saving money on your holiday shopping. And McDonald's is launching a new "Grinch" meal! Nice story about a senior couple who recently got married in the YMCA pool where they first met, and a pig on the loose is rescued by a couple who were looking for a companion for their pet pig. Today is "National Stuffing Day"…and it's also "Beaujolais Nouveau Day"…and "National Gingerbread Cookie Day". So celebrate accordingly! And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a #FloridaMan walking around buck nekkid, a hunter in Louisiana who came down from his tree stand only to get immediately attacked by an alligator, a few guys who tried to cash a $27 million check at a bank, a rich neighborhood in California banned pickleball at a local park because it was too loud, a dude in Seattle who ran from the cops and tried to change clothes in a thrift store to get-away, and a guy in Taiwan who ended up with a cup in his rear-end. Welcome to the DFO Rundown with Jeff Gregor and Mike Rupp!Gregor and Rupp start off the show discussing Rupp's Chicago Bulls fandom and whether he might have had a basketball career if he hadn't pursued hockey. What sport would you play or follow if not for hockey? Then we dive into Alexander Ovechkin's remarkable milestone of reaching 900 career goals. We discuss other elite players, past and present, who have hit major milestones or are on pace to do so. Will Connor McDavid or Sidney Crosby reach 2,000 points?Gregor highlights the incredible consistency and longevity of the Great One, Wayne Gretzky. Gretzky's goal record was once thought to be unbreakable; could we ever see a player approach his single-season points record of 215?The Anaheim Ducks have come out of the gates flying. Can the Ducks sustain this hot start and make a Stanley Cup run?Macklin Celebrini is tied with the likes of Jack Eichel and Connor McDavid atop the NHL points leaderboard. His 200-foot game has Canadian fans asking: will we see Celebrini don the red and white, and black, at the 2026 Olympics?Gregor and Rupp break down the controversial hit by Tyler Pitlick on Jalen Chatfield. Is the Minnesota Wild forward facing a multi-game suspension?Later, we play “Fill in the Blanks.”Morgan Geekie and Cutter Gauthier are surprise entries among the elite goal scorers after the first month of the season.Which basement-dwelling team from last season has a legitimate shot this year?Where will the PWHL expand next, following the release of Vancouver and Seattle's team names yesterday?Lastly, we discuss the sneaky strong start from the Boston Bruins. The start is surprising, and while the guys don't think the Bruins will make the playoffs, they love what they're seeing from Charlie McAvoy and Hampus Lindholm. Can the Bruins squeak into a playoff spot come April?Gregor's "ferocious, killer" dog Maple makes a guest appearance as the guys wrap up the show.Want to hear more from Jason and the entire DFO team? Another day in the mid-50's as we get ready for colder temps this weekend. It's Hypothetical Thursday, so we once again asked each other hypothetical questions. Jean's question for Brian was: "Who was the most influential person in your life?". Brian's question for Jean was: "Would you rather fly First-Class every time you fly & stay in a 1-star hotel...or stay in a 5-star hotel whenever you go somewhere & have the middle seat in economy?" Office Cora joined us just after 8am to let us know what she's up to this weekend in the 715. Her hypothetical question for us was: "If you could only have one condiment for the rest of your life, which one would you choose?" We also let you know what's on TV today/tonight, talked about season 2 of KPop Demon Hunters, and Miss Piggy's stand-alone movie. In sports, Week 10 in the NFL kicks off tonight with Thursday Night Football, the Bucks are off until Friday, Giannis got a black eye and it's origins are….interesting, and a look at the Badger men's basketball schedule and the Badger football schedule. Great story about a heroic teen in Florida who recently helped save a bunch of people who were stuck in their vehicles during a flash flood. And an absolutely heart-warming story about a 93 year-old man who used his smelly socks to help track down & find his lost dog. In case you missed it, Kraft recently released a new flavor of it's Mac-n-Cheese, and people have strong reactions to it. Elsewhere in sports, Alexander Ovechkin scored his 900th career goal, Kyler Murray is going on the IL, and CJ Strout is going to sit this weekend for the Texans. October just recently wrapped up, and many of you probably went to a wedding. October is the most popular month for nuptials, and we looked a list of ways you might have been rude at a wedding. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a guy who REALLY needed to use a bathroom stall at a grocery store, a hospital in Maine is apologizing for sending letters to a bunch of LIVING patients…telling them that they are actually DEAD, a council meeting in Scotland that had to edit the recording of a recent meeting after someone went to the bathroom without turning off their camera, the benefits of having sex in the morning, and a drunk substitute teacher in WI.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Things Discussed: Michigan vs Georgia recruitments revisited: things have definitely changed. We had to move heaven and Earth to get Will Johnson and that was a legacy. Sam shares a story that Harbaugh promised he was gonna be here and that got Will to pump the breaks on a USC-Ohio State decision. Remembering DJ Turner's recruitment. Yaxel? Is doing well at the combine. Think Michigan visit changed his mindset from "Michigan has to match" to "NBA has to match," but there's a very good chance that happens. Difference between early 2nd round and late 1st round isn't just money but end of the 1st round is where you find the best organizations, whereas early 2nd round could mean going to Phoenix. If a team promises they'll draft him in the late 1st he's gotta take it. If Yaxel comes: Big Ten PoY? In the conversation. Wolf-/Tonje-level impact. Forest view: plan on this happening every year, because one player can put you over the top and one way to get that one player is to get the best player in the country who's not in the NBA Draft. Speaking of best player in the country who's not in his draft…there's a LOT of positivity inside Michigan about Gavin McKenna. What does Gavin McKenna mean, non-hockey fans? He's the consensus #1 player in the Draft and in that tier with Connor McDavid, Eric Lindros, Mario Lemieux and Alexander Ovechkin where the franchise that gets him is instantly the team with that guy (Only tier higher than that is Crosby, Gretzky). Why is McKenna going to college? These guys used to play Canadian juniors, but that's a long season in a small town for money that Michigan could match, and for a player who's already guaranteed to be a top-5 pick there's no reason to slog through that when the Big Ten these days has higher competition. The example here is John Tavares, who was the CHL rookie of the year in 2005-06 and player of the year in 2006-07, and was the obvious #1 pick in the 2008 Draft then had to go back to the CHL for another year to no purpose. College gives that guy a step up in competition, a year in Ann Arbor instead of Oshawa, and the connections and future you get from association with a university. For us, that would make Michigan a focus of the hockey world for a year, and the rest of McKenna's career they'd be like "guy from Michigan." Meta discussion on last week's episode and politics based on the (overwhelmingly positive) responses we got from last week: We aren't planning to talk about partisan and identity politics that much going forward—there are certain instances when it's topical and we can't ignore it (e.g. Ono's departure), but mostly we choose to talk about ideas and values, and when they're not politicized nobody notices the politics. Penn State > Ohio State this year? We don't believe in Drew Allar. Ohio State's culture is clearly working for them.

SEASON 3 EPISODE 117: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:45) SPECIAL COMMENT: Trump has already LOST the tariff wars he finally claimed he paused yesterday (without really pausing). Already. Took him only eight days. From Liberation Day to a day when in any other war, literal or figurative, he would have been deposed - 8 days. And never mind how much YOU AND I think he’s crazy; a high-priced adviser to macro fund managers says “a few have quietly wondered if the president might be insane." And after Wall Street came off the ledge and got back to where it was Monday – only, what, seven trillion lost – he declared victory. “Up 2500 points. Nobody has ever heard of it. Gotta be a record.” Because he can’t admit he made a mistake; his head would fall off. His approval numbers have cratered. He’s underwater by an AVERAGE of six points. LAST Wednesday it was an average of TWO points. Since the election he’s lost 20 points among those over age 65; he’s lost 50 points among those under age 30. And he still raised the tariffs on the Chinese again – to 125 percent – because he’s mad at them. Because they of course are winning. Because the Chinese are not negotiating; the Chinese are as they have been for centuries, waiting for their opponents to DIE. The Chinese are apparently dumping our 10-Year Treasuries, driving up our debt. And they’ve opened trading partnership negotiations with the head of the European Union. And for all the claims about pausing the tariffs, a universal TEN percent tariff will be maintained. He didn't pause anything. He simply lost everything. B-Block (27:10) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Joe Manchin writes a book celebrating his middle of the road bona fides. The cover photo shows only the right half of his face, naturally. Marjorie Stupid Greene reveals she does not know what the word "Merch" means. And the president of the hockey writers' association, a bonehead named Frank Seravalli, not only defends Wayne Gretzky's attacks on Canada but his bringing FBI Director and Election Denier Kash Patel to the Ovechkin game - and calls CRITICISM of those decisions "political BS." Instead of, maybe, calling out Gretzky for BRINGING political BS into a moment of sports history. C-Block (49:15) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: She's still at it. Even as Trump's boasts of pausing the tariffs while INCREASING them on China and maintaining them on everybody else, Laura Ingraham is still carrying his water for him. It's time for me to review my dates with her last century, and the extraordinary revelation she made during the first of them about the then-nascent Republican-Media Industrial Complex.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Seconds away from some small but maintained hope, but it fell apart for the Red Wings across two games in an instant... (00:00) Tune in as we start by discussing Detroit's heartbreaking loss to the St. Louis Blues as Cam Talbot and J.T. Compher could not hold off the late comeback, including a strong game from Binnington, Larkin, Seider, Kane, & Co. struggling, & more as Todd McLellan's squad's hopes are fading (5:35). We then discuss whether this is it for the Detroit Red Wings playoff hopes, barring another insane Lucas Raymond run like last season, what to make of this team, and a discussion on Steve Yzerman's offseason motivations whether or not the playoffs returned to Hockeytown (13:25). We continue the discussion with a hypothetical about whether adding defensemen to help Seider, Edvinsson, & Co. or forwards alongside DeBrincat and Raymond would be more beneficial (35:10) before getting into the big Detroit Red Wings pipeline news: Trey Augustine is returning to the Michigan State Spartans to play NCAA hockey for another season. What this means for the Grand Rapids Griffins, Sebastian Cossa, Gylander, Lyon, Talbot, Mrazek, & more (42:55). Next, NHL news including Alexander Ovechkin's goal chase and the new NHL TV deal with Rogers () before getting into our 2025 NHL Entry Draft Prospect Profile on Anton Frondell: can he challenge Misa, Hagens, Martone, & other top prospects in this class? We also take a look at the Stanley Cup Playoff race and what Lucas Raymond, Alex DeBrincat, Patrick Kane, Moritz Seider, Simon Edvinsson, & Co. have to do to beat the very long odds (22:05).
