Label: Motown 1166Year: 1970Condition: M-Price: $15.00After Michael Jackson's tragic, untimely death, it's been heartening to see how much he was appreciated, despite his beyond-quirky later years. And early Jackson 5 singles still amaze when one hears Michael's preternaturally precocious singing. "The Love You Save" was the group's biggest hit. Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Motown Records factory sleeve. It looks Near Mint (Labels, Vinyl) and has pristine Mint sound. (This scan is a representative image from our archives.)
Label: Motown 1103Year: 1967Condition: M-Last Price: $20.00. Not currently available for sale. It's clear that Diana Ross' spoken interlude in this underrated Supremes single was one of Michael Jackson's greatest vocal inspirations. His little hiccup surely started from late-night air-guitar sessions when Michael would sing along with Diana on this one. :-) The B side is another fine H-D-H tune. This single is also remarkable for the manic mastery of James Jamerson's bass playing. Right from the get-go, his bass starts running away behind the scenes and just doesn't stop for breath! (Note: Jamerson was inducted into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame in 2000.) Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Motown Records factory sleeve. It grades very close to Mint for its labels and vinyl, and the audio is Near Mint as well.
Label: Motown 1321 djYear: 1974Condition: M-Price: $16.00Stereo/Mono promo copy. This amazing, compelling instrumental is simply too "different" to describe in words... so have a listen to the mp3 "snippet" and see if you don't come away wanting to hear more! As I say, really compelling! By the way, I checked, and this is getting added to my growing list of "lost tunes"... songs that aren't available in iTunes. Also, there was a vocal version of this number, but apparently Motown decided to promote the backing instrumental over the vocal version at some point. In any case, no album was ever released for this group, so this is a non-album single. Note: This beautiful promo 45 has very nearly Mint labels and vinyl, and pristine Mint audio.
Label: Motown 1096Year: 1966Condition: M-Price: $24.00Be sure to check out the terrific Holland-Dozier-Holland song/production on the B side! Have a listen to our mp3 "snippet". Note: This beautiful 45 has a drillhole on otherwise-Mint looking labels. The vinyl looks almost untouched, and the audio is pristine Mint. (This scan is a representative image from our archives; it doesn't show the drillhole.)
Label: Motown 1157Year: 1969Condition: M-Last Price: $15.00. Not currently available for sale.Even Michael Jackson's detractors must admit he was unbelievably talented. Witness this, the greatest of all Jackson 5 singles, as well as their first, and the first of four consecutive #1 hits over the course of the next 10 months. All of this success falling squarely on the back of little 11-year-old Michael. What a talent! Of course, whoever is doing honors on the piano and guitar ain't half bad either... I mean, the opening few bars of this record, once heard, are not soon forgotten. How could anyone not love this song? I'm always thrilled to get a nice copy of this amazing single back into the store. Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Motown Records factory sleeve. The labels are Near Mint, with a faint touch of ringwear (too light to show up in the scan).

Underrated at the time, and still not getting the airplay it deserves, both sides of this 1969 Four Tops single are uptempo Northern Soul delights. Check out the mp3 "snippet" for the A side. Note: This beautiful 45 has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).
Label: Motown 1104Year: 1967Condition: M-Last Price: $21.00. Not currently available for sale. Here's a beautiful copy of this important single. Besides the classic A side, which as you'll notice makes #37 on Dave Marsh's list of the top 1001 singles ever made, be sure to listen to the flip, which a collector/dealer I respect greatly once opined was the greatest Four Tops side ever released! You may not agree with that assessment, but I think you'll have to admit it's a must-have Tops track! Note: This 45 record comes in a vintage Motown Records factory sleeve. The labels grade a strong EX, with some light ringwear and a small stain on the B label where a sticker was removed. The vinyl looks almost untouched, and the audio sounds pristine Mint! (This scan is a representative image from our archives.)
Label: Motown 1420Year: 1977Condition: MPrice: $35.00From a warehouse find, this is a new, unplayed stock copy. The A side was a mellow hit on the Black Billboard chart, but it's the B side that gets the feet movin' and excitement building today. "Rode By The Place" was re-released on the flip of Ruffin's subsequent single, "You're My Peace Of Mind." That subsequent release is also in high demand among Northern Soul collectors, but it appears to be more common (even though its A side was not as big a hit), and is somewhat less valuable. Take a listen to the mp3 snippet of this Van McCoy production, and you may discover a new favorite! By the way, the A side is edited from a 3:56 album track.

Label: Motown 1060Year: 1964Condition: M-Price: $120.00This is gorgeous copy of the Supremes' break-out, first #1 hit single. Listening to the jaw-dropping audio (check out the mp3 "snippet") reminds me of how big and bright Motown managed to mix their hits for vinyl in the 1960s. What you hear on albums, CDs, and reissue 45s just doesn't come close! This 45 comes in a nearly flawless copy of the release's rarely seen picture sleeve, with only one notable flaw... a tiny tear at the top edge. Note: This 45 record has Mint labels and pristine sound.
(superfly.fm)
