Label: Coral 62558Year: 1969Condition: MPrice: $60.00This is a beautiful Mint copy of a single released in 1969 to commemorate Buddy Holly's untimely 1959 death, along with its striking picture sleeve. I had first heard this lovely version many years ago on a U.K.-released double album set Buddy Holly: Legend. The liner notes to that album describe the track as follows: "Love Is Strange" was one of Buddy's favorite songs. The version he recorded was around a minute long and the track included here has been "stretched" by splicing and re-recording the original tape. Norman Petty's later treatment of the recording, adding organ sounds to create the impression of strings, probably comes fairly close to Buddy's own ideas for the song. As for the B side, this rarity was cowritten with Waylon Jennings and not released until well after Holly's death. Among other places, it appeared on the B side of U.K. single in 1964. Upon hearing it, I knew I'd heard it before and after wracking my brain for awhile, I remembered that it was a version by the neo-Rockabilly singer/songwriter Billy Swan released in 1976 that was in my head. Other than that, I haven't heard any other versions, though it's indubitably hit material! Note: The 45 itself has Mint labels. The vinyl looks untouched, and the audio sounds pristine. The great picture sleeve is nearly flawless!

Huang Gang or die. JK JK. Shoutout to all of my friends - past, present, and future - who shaped me into the woman I am today! This episode is because of you :) Let's talk about the trials and tribulations of adult friendships. There are circumstantial friendships (ones you make in school, when it's situational, etc.) and substantial friendships (ones that last because you both nurture it). Your 20s are where you'll find yourself building or breaking these relationships. Today, I share my experiences with cliques, growing pains, girl fights, and avoidant people. I walk you through multiple scenarios with different people I've encountered in my 20s and what lessons I extracted from those situations. Lastly, I give my two cents on how to keep quality friendships as you get older to make sure everyone is a substantial and not situational friend. DISCLAIMER: This is not an episode made to "spill tea" or trash anyone in my past but rather share what those hardships taught me and how I currently carry myself in adversity with others. *NOTE: Sorry the audio is not super consistent. I'm still trying to understand my new apartment's acoustics and how to adjust so the mic isn't so sensitive to P sounds and background noises like our AC or air purifier.*

Label: World Pacific 77808Year: 1966Condition: M-Last Price: $14.00. Not currently available for sale. After you soak in the early morning bliss on the A side, be sure to check out the B side of this great single... one of my personal favorite sunshine pop tracks, with a hook that just won't quit! Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage World Pacific Records factory sleeve. Note: This scan is a representative image from our archives.
Label: WB 7163Year: 1968Condition: MPrice: $14.00From a warehouse find, this is a new, unplayed stock copy, in its original factory sleeve. OK, how many of you remember this song but had no idea what it was called? I see lots of hands out there! For Sunshine Pop lovers, this is a truly blissful experience and a must for your Association collection. Note: This beautiful copy has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).
Label: Atco 6359Year: 1965Condition: M-Price: $25.00This is one of the nicest copies of this classic single that I've had to offer since opening the store in 2001... a solid Near Mint copy with Mint audio. Check out the mp3 "snippet". (Collector's note: This release is common in conditions less than Near Mint, but copies in truly collectable condition are quite rare.) It's also worth noting that this single appears on both the Dave Marsh Top 1,001 Singles (#228) and the Rolling Stone Top 500 Songs (#451) lists! That's one of the reasons it's hard to keep in stock! Also check out Sonny Bono's stab at Garage Rock on the B side... it's really pretty nasty! :-) Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Atco Records factory sleeve. The labels grade Near Mint with a touch of wear. The vinyl looks Near Mint with a few light scuffs, and the audio sounds pristine Mint.
Label: Reprise 0564Year: 1967Condition: M-Price: $25.00The B side of this monster Psych-rocker may not have charted, but I actually think it tops the Top 40 A side. Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Reprise Records factory sleeve. It grades close to Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).
Label: MGM 13567Year: 1966Condition: M-Price: $20.00British singer Farlowe had success with a number of Jagger-Richards compositions in the mid-1960's, including this one also produced by Mick Jagger. Jagger has brought in arranger Art Greenslade for this recording, who adds some very effective and arty touches to the lesser-known Stones classic. Check out the mp3 "snippet" of the song. "Out Of Time" was on the U.K. version of the Stones LP Aftermath, but it was left off of the U.S. version for some reason, winding up on a compilation LP the following year. The Stones didn't release the song as a single, letting Farlowe's Jagger-produced version become a #1 hit in the U.K. and producing his only brush with the U.S. Hot 100. In the U.S., Farlowe's 45 was a non-album single. Note: This beautiful copy has a drillhole and comes in a vintage MGM Records factory sleeve. It grades Near Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).
Label: Shelter 40238 djYear: 1974Condition: M-Last Price: $10.00. Not currently available for sale.Stereo/Mono promo copy. This is one of Cale's greatest tracks that nobody ever heard... absolutely delicious to the ear. Have a listen to the mp3 "snippet" to hear what I mean. Note: This beautiful promo 45 grades Near Mint across the board, with the labels having a small date penned on one side, a small stamp on the other. (This scan is a representative image from our archives.)
Label: MGM 13813 djYear: 1967Condition: M-Price: $16.00From a warehouse find, this is a new, unplayed promo copy, in its original factory sleeve. Sunshine Pop lovers of the world unite! Here's a Greenaway-Cook rarity that will keep your toe tappin' and your mouth smilin'. This was the group's last single on Co & Ce, and unfortunately never made it onto Top 40 playlists. When MGM picked up the Co & Ce catalog, they released this one Vogues single. It would be a year and a half before the group re-emerged on Warner Bros.' Reprise label to score a couple of hits in 1968-69. Note: This copy comes in a vintage MGM Records factory sleeve.
Label: Atlantic 2682Year: 1969Condition: MLast Price: $8.00. Not currently available for sale. From a warehouse find, this is a new, unplayed stock copy with a drillhole, in its original factory sleeve.
Label: Atco 6588Year: 1968Condition: MPrice: $15.00From a warehouse find, this is a new, unplayed stock copy with a drillhole, in its original factory sleeve. Both sides are terrific, rare slices of late 1960's soul. I particularly like the Deep Soul B side...
Label: Parkway 6000Year: 1967Condition: MPrice: $18.00From a warehouse find, this is a new, unplayed stock copy with a drillhole, in its original Cameo/Parkway factory sleeve. If Sigler's turbocharged medleys from 1967 aren't to your taste, you may have missed out on the terrific flip side to this single. If so, be sure to check it out!!
Girl Groups have been with us since the beginning of popular music, and in my 60-plus years, just two have stood above everyone else: The Supremes and Destiny's Child. The Supremes are the greatest singing group of all time and the template for all girl groups. Movies, plays and books can be found explaining the rise and no fall Supremes — there are at least a dozen albums without Diana Ross and Florence Ballard.Destiny's Child is the greatest girl group since The Supremes but, a trio created after years of drama, and destined to be hit makers. And once they arrived they suddenly called it quits…Are these groups alike? To answer that question, press play.
“I don't think teenage years are all that rosy for a lot of people - they certainly weren't for me. They are the most confusing time of people's lives and there is a tremendous dark side to the record, which I think teenagers related to.” - Mary Weiss of the Shangri-Las, on their greatest hit “Leader of the Pack”It was no wonder punk rockers love the Shangri-Las so much. They had the courage to be fashionable, fierce, and vulnerable in a music industry that just wasn't built for them. This week's story is a wild tale: stolen song credits, banning from BBC radio, and organized crime - the drama is so wild, it reads like a Shangri-Las song! Sometimes the truth is stranger than motorcycle-crashing fiction. PLUS: What do Abby and Emma really think of the casting for the upcoming Beatle biopics? And what on earth is Holy Land USA?? “The Shangri-Las: Leaders of the Pack” is available wherever you stream your podcasts
Label: Lenox 5555Year: 1962Condition: M-Price: $22.00One of my personal all-time favorites: When "Little Esther" Phillips starts singing, I literally get goosebumps — the recording's that powerful! And what a voice! Note: This copy has nearly pristine-looking labels and Near Mint vinyl. The audio is close to Mint, with just a touch of surface noise.
Label: Stone Flower 9001Year: 1970Condition: M-Price: $8.00This is a beautiful Near Mint stock copy in its original factory sleeve. Some of Sly Stone's best work outside of the Family Stone recordings... both sides! (This scan is a representative image from our archives--the copy for sale has NO drillhole).
Label: Acta 815Year: 1968Condition: MLast Price: $12.00. Not currently available for sale. The very best kind of melodic, romantic pop that'll just wrap you up in warm sunshine. :-) Check out the mp3 "snippet" of it in our "jukebox." (Click the blue "play" button.) By the way, the B side is a non-album cut. Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Acta Records factory sleeve. It has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).
Step into a musical adventure celebrating the innovative sounds of female K-pop and J-pop artists who are breaking boundaries and defying expectations. Sarah and Panic take you on a journey through unexpected genre combinations and production techniques that showcase why these groups deserve your undivided attention. Our exploration begins with MADEIN's "SATURN," where sweet harmonies float over grinding bass in a fascinating juxtaposition that left us wondering, "How can they blend acoustic guitars, futuristic synths, and R&B influences so seamlessly?" This genre-defying approach sets the tone for our entire listening session. We then discover f5ve (formerly SG5) and their sparkly synth-pop "Magic Clock," before diving into UNIS's "Curious" – a track that boldly fuses heavy rock guitar with pop vocals and dance beats. But the true revelation comes with LE SSERAFIM's latest EP "Hot," where we explore three distinctly different tracks that showcase incredible versatility: from 70s funk basslines with 50s-style vocal production in "Hot," to the psychedelic rock and Motown influences of "Come Over," culminating in the hypnotic, trance-inducing "Ash" that completely captivated us.What makes these selections so compelling is how these artists reinterpret nostalgic sounds while creating something thoroughly modern. The B-sides particularly impressed us, often containing the most artistic experimentation and vocal showcases. If you really want to do justice to your artist, you need to introduce this type of music.Whether you're already a fan of these groups or completely new to them, this episode will transform how you think about girl group music. Give these boundary-pushing artists a chance – their unexpected sound combinations might just create your next musical obsession.MADEIN info: Instagram X YouTube SATURN (Spotify)F5ve info: Instagram X YouTube Magic Clock (Spotify)Unis info: Instagram X YouTube Curious (Spotify)Le Sserafim info: Instagram X YouTube HOT (EP Spotify)Support the showPlease help Music Elixir by rating, reviewing, and sharing the episode. Label: A&M 8578Year: 1969Condition: M-Price: $8.00Originally released on A&M 1039, this is a powerful Phil Spector production with a great vocal by Sonny Charles. The Checkmates' first single, it's just as great--though not nearly so famous--as the hit 'Black Pearl' that followed. A must-have for Spector collectors. This is a copy of the A&M "Forget Me Nots" reissue. This beautiful reissue has pristine Mint audio!
Label: I.R.S. 9907Year: 1982Condition: M-Price: $12.00This is a beautiful stock copy, in its original picture sleeve. This is simply one of the very best girl group songs of all time. Unlike their Sixties counterparts, though, these girls write their own songs, play their own electric guitars and drums, and sing about the lovelife of working girls who are way past sweet sixteen! The audio is pristine Mint!

Label: Columbia 11388Year: 1980Condition: MLast Price: $10.00. Not currently available for sale. From a warehouse find, this is a new, unplayed stock copy, in its original factory sleeve. This is one of two great, hard-to-find singles released from the Rockpile album Seconds of Pleasure. Rockpile was a band formed by Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds. Of the two singles, this was the first, and also the only one that charted. Note: This beautiful stock copy has Mint labels and pristine audio. The vinyl (styrene) is graded Near Mint to reflect some faint storage wear.
Label: Elektra 45720Year: 1971Condition: M-Last Price: $18.00. Not currently available for sale.I still think this is my favorite Bread track... the lyrics are hopelessly romantic, but that's just what you want when you're hopelessly in love. And the arrangement suits the mood perfectly. David Gates has concocted a perfect Pop confection that should not be dismissed merely because it is so. The sheer beauty of the music, song, voice, lyrics literally brings me to tears when I'm in a certain mood. The vision of my dear wife coming and "pouring herself on me" when I'm feeling down, and of our ultimately "flying away" from our worldly cares and woes together, evokes such poignancy for me that I feel it's happening... as the music plays. I finally found a copy of with audio good enough to record for my iTunes library, but when I began to make the mp3 "snippet" for Classic 45s, I simply could not find a reasonable place to edit this nearly perfect musical "poem," so I ended up including the entire 2:33 song as the snippet. If you are inclined to dismiss Bread and David Gates, do me a favor and listen to the entirety of the snippet. This level of creativity in Soft Rock definitely deserves our 2-star recommendation, and I hope you agree. Enjoy! Note: This beautiful copy comes in a Near Mint picture sleeve with no notable flaws. The labels look Mint, and the vinyl (styrene) looks almost Mint. Fortunately, this copy, while not perfect, is close enough to earn a rare (for this pressing) Near Mint audio rating. Have a listen to the snippet, and you'll agree you can imagine a more perfect rendition, but you have to admit this Mono mix is gorgeous!
Label: Columbia 45259 djYear: 1970Condition: M-Last Price: $40.00. Not currently available for sale. One of the group's last singles, this is a neglected classic. Great melodic story with an unforgettable hook on the A side, and a sea of shimmering guitars on the B side. This promo copy grades close to Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio). (This scan is a representative image from our archives; this copy doesn't have the stamp shown.)
Label: Atlanta Artists 818384Year: 1984Condition: M-Price: $6.50This is a beautiful Near Mint stock copy. Essential 1980s Rap/Funk. This is an edited version of the 7:12 album track. The audio is very close to Mint.
Label: Colgems 1001Year: 1966Condition: MPrice: $45.00This was the group's first chart single, and what a great debut it was! No, they weren't a new Beatles, but this was first-rate pop for sure. Be sure to check out the wonderful Goffin-King tune on the B side, with its delightful little psychedelic interludes. This single's picture sleeve came in several variations... some in full color like this one, some in 2 colors, some with the white banner at the bottom, some not, etc. Note: This copy's picture sleeve, which has the white bottom banner, is nearly flawless. The 45 record itself has Mint labels and pristine sound.
Label: Gordy 7056Year: 1966Condition: MPrice: $32.00This beautiful copy has pristine audio... awesome to hear this classic in its original pounding clarity. This is a first pressing with the "It's in the grooves" Gordy label. There were many label variations on this release. This copy has the title and artist at the bottom of the label, with no quotes. Note: This beautiful copy has Mint labels with a drillhole. The vinyl looks untouched, and the audio is pristine Mint. (This scan is a representative image from our archives.)
Label: Fontana 1607Year: 1968Condition: MLast Price: $25.00. Not currently available for sale. The A side may be their sensitive face, but the B side is another terrific Garage/Psych rocker. Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Fontana Records factory sleeve. It has no notable flaws, grading Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).
Label: Philly Groove 175Year: 1973Condition: M-Price: $12.00 Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Bell Records factory sleeve. It has light storage wear that lowers the Labels and Vinyl grades to Near Mint. The audio sounds pristine Mint.
Label: Stang 5060Year: 1975Condition: M-Price: $10.00If you're a fan of the sweet side of Philly soul and haven't heard this one, you've found a little piece of heaven! Note: The 45 has very nearly Mint labels and audio. (This scan is a representative image from our archives.)
Label: Stiff/Epic 50747Year: 1979Condition: M-Price: $8.00Just one small example of what made the British new wave so refreshing... from the Nick Lowe school of Pure Pop for Now People, Ian Gomm wrote and recorded perfect little pop rock confections that were pure ear candy. Note: This copy has light storage wear on the labels and vinyl, but after a cleaning the audio is pristine Mint.
Label: B.T. Puppy 519Year: 1966Condition: M-Price: $20.00Typically fabulous Tokens outing... half surf/beach sound, half doo-wop. That's one of the combinations that defines Sunshine Pop, in fact. The flip is in the same "breezy" vein. The vinyl grades a weak Near Mint with visible hairlines, but the audio is much closer to Mint than not. The picture sleeve grades Near Mint with a partial tear where the hole of the 45 would sit.
Label: Original Sound 67Year: 1967Condition: MPrice: $30.00This group's followup to their classic Psychedelic Rock single, "Talk Talk," wasn't nearly so successful, but that's no comment on its quality. The A side is a top-notch psych-rock performance, the flip is nearly its equal. I've put a snippet of the A side in the jukebox, since it's likely that many 1960s rock fans haven't heard it. Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Original Sound Records factory sleeve. The labels grade very close to Mint, while the vinyl looks untouched, and the audio sounds pristine Mint!
Label: Epic 10345Year: 1968Condition: MLast Price: $35.00. Not currently available for sale. Here's an especially beautiful copy of one of the most interesting tracks in Donovan's catalogue. Here is a description from the wordiq.com website: Released in May 1968, his next single was the swirling psychedelic nugget 'The Hurdy Gurdy Man', a song he originally intended for his old friend and guitar mentor Mac MacLeod who had a heavy rock band called Hurdy Gurdy. Donovan had also considered giving it to Jimi Hendrix, but when Mickie Most heard it, he convinced Donovan that the song was a sure-fire single and that he should record it himself. Donovan tried to get Hendrix to play on the recording, but he was on tour and unavailable for the session. In his place they brought in a brilliant young British guitarist, Allan Holdsworth. Jimmy Page also played on the session, and it is believed that John Paul Jones may have played bass with (possibly) John Bonham on drums. If so, this would make it the first recorded performance featuring the three future members of Led Zeppelin. Both Jones and Page have stated that the idea of Led Zeppelin was formed during the Hurdy Gurdy Man sessions. The B side is a non-album track. Note: This beautiful copy has Mint labels and comes with simply awesome sound. The picture sleeve is Near Mint with one tiny tear at the top edge.
This week, a real cross section of artists, which speaks to the depth and diversity of our interview archive. First up is Pink Floyd. We have a short but interesting chat with David Gilmour from 1984 and he promotes his solo work, but also wrestles with the past and future of Pink Floyd. Then we have an awesome 1979 chat with legendary Canadian producer Bob Ezrin as he talks about Pink Floyd’s The Wall – and as many fans know, Bob was instrumental in the creation of that album – and he has lots to say about it – from the development of the theme, to Roger Waters’ LACK of musical imagination (at least at the outset) to the planning of the ambitious tour that was to follow. Fascinating stuff from a guy who’s NOT afraid to share his opinions. Then we have a chat with Chad Kroeger and the guys from Nickelback from 2014. This was around the time that the whole backlash against them was just starting to heat up. They address it head on – and do a very good job too! Then we travel back to 2004 with Gwen Stefani, upon the release of her first solo album. Gwen is a bundle of energy who cannot be contained – and you can hear the passion, emotion and even insecurity that drives her. We also have a short but fun segment with the Black Eyed Peas from 2005 – a boy did THEY ever own the charts in that decade. We also remember the classic ‘60s Girl Groups, with cool facts from the amazing book “Will You Love Me Tomorrow?” Our favourite story is about the vocal group that you’ve likely heard thousands of times over the years, but never knew by name. Famous Lost Words, hosted by Christopher Ward and Tom Jokic, is heard in more than 100 countries worldwide and on radio stations across Canada, including Newstalk 1010 Toronto, CJAD 800 Montreal, 580 CFRA Ottawa, AM 800 CKLW Windsor, 610 CKTB St Catharines, CFAX Victoria, AM1150 Kelowna and 91x in Belleville. It is in the Top 20% of worldwide podcasts based on the number of listeners in the first week.
Label: WB 7383 djYear: 1970Condition: M-Last Price: $18.00. Not currently available for sale. This was Van Morrison's first single for Warner Brothers featuring two classic tracks from his breakthrough Moondance LP--including, in "Crazy Love", the most transcendent beauty he ever coaxed from those incredible pipes of his. Nothing else in Morrison's catalog sounds quite like this. You Van fans already know this... but in case you're just checking the guy's catalog out, be sure to make time for this gem. Note: This beautiful copy grades close to Mint across the board (Labels, Vinyl, Audio).
There's a belief that after the death of Buddy Holly rock & roll lost its way until the arrival of the Beatles. Early '60s rock was still growing in popularity, but the airwaves were ruled by teen idols, girl groups and novelty songs. However, that's not the full story. Richard Aquila is the author of Rock & Roll in Kennedy's America: A Cultural History of the Early 1960s.
