In this powerful, deeply personal interview, Tanc walks us through a life shaped by gang culture, prison time, cartel connections, near-death situations, and ultimately—transformation. From his early days in the California state system to navigating the dangerous world of cross-border drug trafficking, he breaks down how major operations moved product from Peru and Mexico into the U.S., what it was like coordinating “jumps” across the border, why warehouses sat full of hundreds of untouched bricks, and the razor-thin line between survival and disaster. He also opens up about fatherhood changing his mindset, the struggle to find legitimate work after prison, facing racism while trying to re-enter society, and how community college became the unlikely start of a new path. This episode dives into: -His final state bid and what made him leave gang life behind -How he became involved with high-level cartel operators -The logistics behind massive cross-border drug shipments -The paranoia, betrayals, and close calls that come with the lifestyle -The moment he knew the feds were closing in -How education and family pulled him toward a different life Go Support Tanc! Former MDC inmate Raymond Castillo breaks his silence about living in the same unit as Sean “Diddy” Combs inside MDC Brooklyn. He reveals what really went on behind bars: from the shocking knife incident over a chair (we get the real story), to how Diddy's business and leadership class brought Bloods, Crips, MS-13, and inmates of every race into one room. Castillo describes how the hip-hop mogul walked in circles praying, taught entrepreneurship and faith, and helped him turn his life around in this shocking interview.Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAF--Vk74H4*We tried our best to edit the background noise that occurs in the first 2-3 minutes of the interview, thank you for your patience* Hosted on Acast. Today's guests are the creators and stars of Crip Trip, a new AMI-tv series following Daniel Ennett, a quadruple amputee, and his best friend turned first-time caregiver, Frederick Kroetsch, on a cross-country road trip from Edmonton to New York City in their beat-up 1983 RV. Over the course of the series, they tackle the challenges of caregiving, government shortcomings, and personal growth, all while offering a unique and candid look at the disability community, friendship, and the fight for equal opportunities. In our conversation about the series, we delve into a conversation about the realities of caregiving and how often we forget that care work is labour that often goes unrecognized and unpaid. Sarah has had the opportunity to work with Daniel and Fred throughout her career, and was one of the editors on the series. In fact, this past weekend, Crip Trip won two Rosie awards, including best editor for documentary series over 30 minutes!! So proud of them!! Yes! You are in! You ready for a ride? Buckle up. Put your trays in the upright and locked position. Here you go...Thank you Dr. Loritts. Power teacher. That's what I call you. Crips and bloods. And I'm witnessing my brothers and sisters getting fed certain algorithms. It's sad, I literally have Christian brothers and sisters that don't want to talk to each other...because they think they are correct. They are choosing politics over what Jesus says we should do. That sounds like idolatry to me. Are you turning the cheek? Check Matt 5:39. He told us not to judge, are you doing that? Can you see how the enemy is dividing you? Check Matt 7: 1-6.7 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.Confession, I wrestle with this. Just ask my wife. So, I've had to make my own more conscious effort to do less news and social media and more in the Word. Avid listener, do you remember when I got stood up on my bike. I was complaining about Gavin Newsome (CA Governor) in my head. Inner voice that stood me up as if yelled out loud, Thomas, you need to be praying for you leaders, not cursing. Check 1 Tim 2: 1-2.

Ramirez Grable grew up in Georgia with a father who worked as a correctional officer — but despite that, the streets pulled him in early. After his parents divorced when he was just 16, Ramirez's life started to spiral. By 15, he was already locked up in juvenile detention for breaking and entering. What began as small crimes quickly escalated into drug dealing, gun charges, and ultimately, a long stretch in federal prison. #PrisonStories #StreetLife #GeorgiaPrison #TrueCrimeInterviews #GangCulture #RedemptionStory #LockedInPodcast #SurvivingPrison Connect with Ramirez Grable: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0CChNdz080eXxA665gTHbw Hosted, Executive Produced & Edited By Ian Bick: https://www.instagram.com/ian_bick/?hl=en https://ianbick.com/ Shop Locked In Merch: http://www.ianbick.com/shop Timestamps: 00:00 – Intro: From Georgia Streets to Federal Prison 00:41 – Growing Up in Georgia: Family, Struggles & Early Influences 05:37 – Finding Escape Through YouTube & Music 12:12 – Childhood Challenges: Bullying, Rebellion & Fitting In 19:47 – First Arrest: Juvenile Detention & Criminal Beginnings 30:53 – Escalation: Drugs, Burglaries & County Jail Chaos 38:39 – Parole Violations & The Infamous MySpace Arrest 47:52 – Inside Prison: Gangs, Politics & Surviving the System 54:26 – Federal Prison Reflections: The Moment Everything Changed 01:00:29 – Freedom, Legit Business & Falling Back Into the Streets 01:08:56 – Probation, Relapse & the Confidential Informant Drug Bust 01:17:51 – Learning the Game: Check Fraud & Street Scams 01:27:00 – Running the Operation: Printing Checks & Cashing Big 01:36:01 – Mistakes, Arrests & Beating the Charges 01:42:03 – Redemption: Building a New Life Through Content Creation 01:50:30 – Scamming the Rapper, Regret & Moving Forward 01:51:01 – Final Reflections: Manifestation, Mindset & Second Chances Learn more about your ad choices. South Central, Los Angeles author DT West has released his debut novel, Lil Blue Devil, a gripping story inspired by his life growing up in the Hyde Park section of Los Angeles, in the heart of the legendary Rollin 60s Crips territory. Drawing from personal experience, West captures the reality of inner-city Los Angeles gang life including the iconic lowriders on Crenshaw, and the struggles and resilience of the community he calls home.West was raised by his grandmother after being saved from the foster care system. Growing up on Crenshaw, he witnessed the streets firsthand, giving him a unique perspective that he felt was missing in other books about gang culture in Los Angeles written by outsiders.

In this "5th of July" episode, Tubby listens to the classic rap album, "Bangin On Wax" by Bloods & Crips, for the very first time.
The Killing of Tupac ShakurWho did it and why? Poet, movie star, revolutionary -- Tupac Amaru Shakur was the most popular rapper in the world. No one symbolized the violence at the heart of gangsta rap more than Tupac, and he ultimately fell victim to that violence, gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas at the age of 25. This raw, no-holds-barred account discloses new information, including exclusive photo evidence, about the unsolved murder of Tupac: the failed investigation, the rap wars, the killing of Biggie Smalls, the Bloods-Crips connection, and the many possible motives leading to the murder that rocked the music world. The Murder of Biggie SmallsThe Notorious B.I.G. exploded onto the hip-hop scene with his platinum-selling album Ready to Die in 1995. The life of B.I.G. a.k.a. Biggie Smalls--born Christopher Wallace--had come a long way from the years spent in his Bed-Sty neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, where he dropped out of school at age seventeen to pursue the culture of the street and master his rapping style. It was on the street that Smalls began emceeing his original raps and was discovered by Sean "Puffy" Combs, who recognized Smalls's potential and took his gangsta image to the next level.Within a few years he moved from the street to two successful rap albums, several million dollars in earnings, a Billboard Music Award in 1996 for Rapper of the Year, a marriage to R&B singer Faith Evans, a very public affair with L'il Kim, and hanging with Tupac Shakur, Marion "Surge" Knight, Puff Daddy, and Mary J. Blige. Despite becoming king of his world, Smalls didn't leave the life he rapped about behind. During his two-year rise up the charts he had several run-ins with the law, on charges ranging from assault to drugs and weapons possession. In 1994, both he and Combs were accused publicly by Suge Knight and Tupac's camp of setting up the shooting of Tupac Shakur, a charge they both vehemently denied. The high life was brought to an end on March 9, 1997, after Biggie attended the Soul Train Awards in Los Angeles. Smalls was gunned down in his car much like friend-turned-enemy Shakur had been six months earlier.Three years after Smalls's death, the police still have not made an arrest, and despite their early confidence that the case would be solved quickly, his murder continues to raise more questions than it answers.Respected journalist Cathy Scott has traveled from Las Vegas to New York and Los Angeles, interviewing those involved with Smalls and reviewing court documents and police reports surrounding the case in order to tell the real story of the murder of Biggie Smalls. The Murder of Biggie Smalls uncovers what those around Smalls and Shakur don't want to be revealed, including:The possibility that Smalls may have owed a gang money and was killed to collect on the debt. That Puffy Combs, Smalls's record producer, may have hired Crips members as bodyguards, who in turn killed Smalls over a financial beef. That Combs may have been the intended victim instead of Smalls. The investigation into Suge Knight, Tupac Shakur's record producer, and the suspicion that he may have masterminded Smalls's murder from his California prison cell.Smalls's mother's belief that the federal government was involved in the mruder and that police have conspired not to solve the crime. Why many surrounding Smalls feel the police have neglected the case to the point of letting the murderer get away--while being unwilling to offer any information themselves or assist the police in their efforts.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

As humans we need each other...desperately. Yet we can't help rank each other, measure each other, and compare each other. Today we'll dig into that instinct.
Nipsey Hussle was more than just one of this generation's most promising voices in hip hop. He was a social activist, a community leader, and an aspirational entrepreneur. His death was senseless and set off grief-stricken testimonials from some of the biggest names in hip hop as well as from some of the biggest names in our culture – period. It also set off a riot in the streets of Los Angeles – the streets where he came up and where he was shot down. He was taken from us too soon and we're still searching for answers. Undercover work is psychological warfare in designer jeans. Ex-cop Tegan Broadwater explains how authenticity beats acting when lives are on the line. Access to communication is the first step—what comes after? In this episode of Non Linear Learning, Dr. Vaish Sarathy and Searmi Park sit down with award-winning researcher and advocate Dr. Edlyn Peña to talk about inclusion, spelled communication, and what happens when we stop settling for access and start building actual community. Dr. Peña shares her journey raising her non-speaking son Diego—from fighting for AAC in preschool to full inclusion in high school using a letterboard. She also opens up about her newest venture: the DREAM Community Center, a post-high school model for neurodivergent teens and adults that centers autonomy, learning, and joy. We talk about: Why spelled communication is a civil rights issue The real risks (and rewards) of pushing for inclusion in traditional systems How to navigate accusations of influence—and why “proof” standards for non-speakers are inherently unjust Why college doesn't have to follow a neurotypical timeline The power of “crip time,” self-defined success, and post-secondary options beyond degrees This episode is a grounded and generous look at what advocacy looks like in real life—and what happens when parents, educators, and communities believe that communication is non-negotiable. [1/2]Jordan's must reads (including books from this episode): AcceleratEdFull show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1160What We Discuss with Tegan Broadwater:Drug enforcement is akin to treading water. Police work prevents drug problems from worsening rather than eliminating them, putting officers at extreme risk just to maintain the status quo.Undercover cops never use drugs. Officers use clever tactics like fake courthouse visits to build street credibility without compromising their cases or health through actual drug use.Gang operations are surprisingly business-like. Crips run complex enterprises with rental properties, specialized roles, and supply chains, though internal conflicts limit their effectiveness.Trust is the currency of illegal business. When drug dealers invite outsiders to their houses, it represents a major security breach and indicates significant trust in their criminal relationships.Authenticity beats acting under pressure. An undercover agent needs to stay true to their core personality rather than adopting elaborate personas that fall apart under high-stress situations that might out them in the field. Stay tuned for part two of this episode later this week for more tactical insights! And much more...And if you're still game to support us, please leave a review here — even one sentence helps! In this powerful episode, Granger Smith sits down with Emeal “E.Z.” Zwayne, president of Living Waters, to unpack a riveting testimony of redemption—from a violent youth in gang life to becoming a leading voice in evangelism. E.Z. reflects on his deep admiration for Ray Comfort (his now father-in-law), their Middle Eastern backgrounds, and the unifying power of the gospel. The conversation shifts into his passion for purity and spiritual warfare as he introduces his book Fight Like a Man. With striking biblical insight, E.Z. offers men a tactical, grace-filled strategy for battling pornography, summed up in the memorable acrostic “NOPE: Not One Peek Even.” Through the “Six Cs” framework—Creation, Cross, Crisis, Crown, Crowd, and Christ—he calls men to fight with eternal purpose and deep love for God, family, and the church.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
