It is the seventy-fifth episode of The Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast! Thank you to everyone who has been on this journey with me so far. I appreciate all of my listeners and the people who have watched my video podcasts. For this milestone episode, I am thrilled to welcome back to Jake’s Take one of my all-time favorite American Ninja Warrior athletes: Lance “Cowboy Ninja” Pekus. I first met Lance when the NBC reality TV competition visited Kansas City during the show’s ninth season. He was the first Ninja athlete that left me starstruck.By the time I met Lance Pekus, the Salmon, Idaho resident was on his sixth season of American Ninja Warrior. If you count Season Nine, Lance made it to Mount Midoriyama, the show’s legendary Las Vegas final round, five different times. In addition to his activity with American Ninja Warrior, he competed on both seasons of Spartan’s Ultimate Team Challenge and all three seasons of Team Ninja Warrior. Outside of American Ninja Warrior, Lance Pekus works as a rancher on his father-in-law’s ranch and is a research tech assistant. In this edition of The Jake’s Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Lance Pekus talked about his run on the twelfth season of American Ninja Warrior. He also spoke about his partnership with the National Beef Council.
Lance Pekus, "Cowboy Ninja," from American Ninja Warrior talks about his return to the show for this season. With COVID, the competition ran similar to usual, but the number of competitors was lowered. As a result, the competitors were only the best of the best, resulting in a stiff competition. Lance trains in Salmon at Lat-45 and rock climbs around the area. You can watch Lance on American Ninja Warrior on NBC at 8 tonight or stream it on Peacock TV.
Managing Stocks in Crisis (0:00:00)As we continue our journey through the chaotic ride that is 2020, the pandemic continues to change every facet of our lives, including how we invest in stocks. A few weeks ago, the DOW dropped to a near record low. But it soared 2,100 points just last week. With all the up and down, many stockholders are left scratching their heads wondering what this means for them. For both those experienced in stock and those who can't tell AMEX from NASDAQ, our current situation has brought some of the same questions to all of our minds: how does a major pandemic affect the stock market? And what should we expect to be doing during a crisis like this? Today we're talking with Ken Little, finance and healthcare copywriter, about the stock market during a pandemic and how we should be reacting to it. At-Home Workouts (0:15:30)Your kids have been running around the house for the past couple weeks, making you crazy. You've tried board games, books, and movies. You love your kids, but it's hard to keep up with all of their energy. Well, there's a perfect solution. Working out with your kids helps you stay fit while helping channel your children's energy and keeping them active while you're stuck in your house. Here to talk about different workouts you can do with your kids, is Lance Pekus, American Ninja Warrior, cowboy, and father of two. Staying Sane with your Family (0:31:09)You've done every puzzle in your house. You've gone on more walks than ever before in your life. You've gotten your kids to help you clean every room in the house. Now what? Obviously, our family are the most important people in our life, but that can be hard to remember when we feel trapped with them in our homes. So, what can we do to keep the peace and not go crazy ourselves? To help us keep things sane and happy at home is friend of the show, Carrie Ann Rhodes, who –like with so many other situations right now –is at home and joining us by phone. Board Games (0:50:34)Right now, many of us are cooped up inside our homes (some might say our COVID-19 cells) with so much time on our hands that we don't even know what to do with it. TV, Netflix, and video games are the immediate go-to's for lots of us trying to pass the time. But this is also a great time to really unplug, connect with and enjoy our time with our families. I know one of my favorite ways to unplug and spend time as a family is to have a game night. So, what are some great games we can play together? Here to give us their list of favorite board games are board game experts Ernest and Jean Borne. Morning Practices for Success (1:09:19)With all the stress surrounding COVID-19, a lot of us are having a hard time maintaining or even building a healthy daily schedule. Mornings can be especially hard when you'll be home all day anyway. A lot of us end up working in our pajamas all day. During this pandemic, how can we set up our mornings so that we'll be successful throughout the rest of the day? Dawn Hafner is an author and specialist on mindfulness and meditation. She's also worked from home herself for years. We thought she'd be the perfect person to invite on the show to help us build our own morning routines for success in the face of COVID-19. Neighborhood Etiquette (1:25:21)Have you ever had a really good neighbor? Whether you have them now or you did in the past, there's no doubt that living by kind and polite people makes coming home even more enjoyable. And by being considerate neighbors ourselves, we can help create peaceful and happy communities. Here to tell us how we can be good neighbors is Elaine Swann. Elaine is a lifestyle and etiquette expert.
Ken Little gives investment advice, Lance Pekus teaches how to workout at home, Carrie Ann Rhodes gives tips for handling your family, Jean and Ernest Bourne talk about new board games, Dawn Hafner explains the best morning practices, Elaine Swann discusses neighborhood etiquette.
This is part 2 in a 2-part series where we discuss what strength means to each of my three guests. We talk about physical strength but also mental and emotional strength. We discuss the “Four Cornerstones” of eating to support strength, some practical tips for tweaking your meals and snacks as well as simple cooking ideas and meal prepping advice – and we also talk about life on a cattle ranch and how both the land and the animals are cared for. Today's guests are Amee Livingston and Lance Pekus. Amee is an Olympic weightlifter, food blogger and breast cancer survivor. Lance is the Cowboy Ninja from American Ninja Warrior and a cattle rancher with a degree in natural resources/environmental science. “You don’t have to spend all day meal prepping! Try doing partial meal prep like batch cooking proteins or pre-chopping vegetables.” - Amee “People might think I’m strong, but for me it’s the people behind me, it’s the people that support me, the ones that are there for me that are strong – and maybe their strength is getting shown through me.” - Lance For the full shownotes, resources and link to the free book "Strength: The Field Manual" visit www.SoundBitesRD.com/129 This episode is a sponsored collaboration with "Beef. “A great diet is one that balances what we know we need with what we don't want to live without. I'd never tell some they should never eat this food or that one. It's about how much and how often. Getting healthier has to be enjoyable.” – Dr. Keith Ayoob Tune in as I talk with my friend and fellow dietitian Dr. Keith Ayoob about the sweetener stevia, umami – the fifth basic taste, and Keith’s fun workout session with Lance Pekus the Cowboy Ninja.
