✨ "They come in with a cane and feeling disabled, and then they say, 'Here, take the cane, honey. I'm gonna walk this horse.' We've seen this so many times we can't even number it." – Nancy Schier AnzelmoDescription Paula Hertel and Nancy Schier Anzelmo are the co-founders of Connected Horse, a California-based program that brings equine-assisted experiences to older adults living with dementia or memory loss — alongside their care partners. Backed by research conducted with Stanford University and UC Davis, Connected Horse is one of the first programs in the country to specifically serve this population in this way. Kansas Carradine, HeartMath-certified trainer and returning EAW guest, joins to explore the science of heart coherence, entrainment, and why horses may be uniquely suited to reach people that other approaches cannot.Connected Horse's work challenges the assumption that equine-assisted services are only for children or younger adults. Their Stanford and UC Davis pilot studies recorded statistically significant reductions in depression, anxiety, and caregiver burden — with 100% participant return rates at a six-month booster session. Participants regularly go from fearful and withdrawn to walking horses, speaking in full sentences, and feeling activated to change their lives. The program is designed to be failure-free: for the person with the diagnosis, for the care partner, and for the horses. In this episode, Rupert, Paula, Nancy, and Kansas explore the physiology behind what happens when a person leans their heart against a horse's neck, why dementia and autism require similar practitioner responses around pacing and unconditional presence, what ritual and ceremony have to do with cortisol regulation, and how social prescribing may bring programs like Connected Horse into mainstream healthcare. Are Robot Dogs Taking Over… and Why Are Adults Fighting Over Pokémon Cards?” That's just the beginning of this wildly entertaining episode of The JB and Sandy Show, where everyday moments spiral into unforgettable conversations, laugh-out-loud confessions, and a few “wait… what just happened?” headlines. The crew kicks things off with relatable family chaos as JB and Sandy joke about parenting wins, competitive credit-taking, and the reality of raising teenagers. Tricia delivers the first laugh of the day with a line that hits home for every parent: “You're a good mom… those kids don't listen—they probably get it from their dad.” In “Care or Don't Care,” the team dives into some of the strangest and funniest trending stories—including a near-brawl at a grocery store Pokémon vending machine… and yes, adults were the problem. As Sandy puts it, “Adult collectors ruin it for kids,” sparking a conversation about nostalgia, obsession, and how far is too far. Then, they break down the upcoming global soccer tournament in a way that even casual fans can follow—highlighting favorites, underdogs, and the surprising introduction of robot dogs patrolling event security. JB's reaction says it all: “Even the dogs are losing their jobs to AI.” The energy ramps up with Minute to Win It, where listener Teresa keeps her cool under pressure and scores big—proving that sometimes all it takes is quick thinking and a little confidence to walk away a winner. But one of the most memorable segments? The return of Free Phones, where listeners call in about anything—and everything. From long commutes and early-morning routines to behind-the-scenes glimpses into everyday jobs, the conversations remind you why live radio still matters. As one caller shares their hour-long commute, the hosts keep it real, relatable, and genuinely engaging. There are also unexpected gems throughout the episode—stories about forgotten Uber items (including some truly bizarre ones), music nostalgia that instantly transports you to another time, and the simple joy of hearing a surprise song you didn't know you missed. By the end, the show feels less like a broadcast and more like hanging out with friends—laughing, venting, reminiscing, and discovering something new together. Memorable Moments & Quotes: “You're a good mom… those kids don't listen—they probably get it from their dad.” “Adult collectors ruin it for kids.” “Even the dogs are losing their jobs to AI.” “Sometimes you just want something thrown at you you didn't expect.” Why You Should Listen: This episode blends humor, headlines, and heartfelt connection into one seamless ride. ✨ "What is HeartMath doing? They're measuring your care." – Kansas CarradineDescription Kansas Carradine is a HeartMath-certified trainer, acrobatic stunt rider, and equine guided educator based in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. She spent years performing with the international touring show Cavalia — working alongside 70+ head of horses, many of them stallions — before dedicating her work to heart-based horsemanship and emotional regulation. What makes Kansas's approach distinctive is the bridge she builds between rigorous science and lived horsemanship. HeartMath is not just a breathing technique; it is a research-backed body of work measuring the electromagnetic output of the heart, heart rate variability coherence, and the demonstrable effect of human emotional states on the beings — horse and human alike — around us. For equine-assisted practitioners, that has profound implications. In this conversation, Rupert and Kansas explore how heart coherence can be layered into any equine-assisted modality, why horses are uniquely able to detect incoherent emotional fields, the science behind the toric field and biophoton emission, and how Kansas's own path — from a difficult childhood at a California trick-riding ranch, through Cavalia's global stages, to HeartMath certification — shaped her understanding of regulation, resilience, and the horse as healer. She and Rupert also announce a planned 2027 collaboration. Would You Survive This Marriage… or Run for the Hills? “If love looks like sarcasm, separate bedrooms, and zero sappy moments… is that still a happy marriage?” That's the question that kicks off one of the most hilariously honest episodes of The JB and Sandy Show—and it only gets better from there. From the very first laugh, JB, Sandy, and Tricia pull you into a morning packed with relatable moments, unexpected confessions, and the kind of humor you don't hear anywhere else. It starts simple enough: why do we all pretend to do math in our heads while secretly hoping someone else answers first? One standout moment dives into the idea of “kidult playtime”—yes, adults reconnecting with childhood hobbies to relieve stress. While the idea sounds wholesome, the reactions are anything but. “I hated those things when I was a kid—I don't want to do them now,” becomes an instant classic line, sparking a conversation about what actually helps us unwind. Then there's the high-energy Minute to Win It game, where contestant Parker races against the clock to answer “ridiculously easy” questions—and nearly loses it all on the final one. The tension, the simplicity, and the payoff make it one of the most fun segments of the episode. But the real heart (and comedy gold) comes from Sandy and Tricia's marriage—a relationship that completely flips the script on what you'd expect. After 18 years together, romance isn't exactly their thing. They don't exchange sweet goodnights… they “shoot each other the finger.” They don't share a bedroom… and they wouldn't have it any other way. When Sandy tells Tricia, “You look so beautiful with the sunlight bouncing off your face,” her reaction? “Oh my God, what made you think of that? It just makes me want to turn it inside out.” It's brutally honest. It's wildly funny. And it raises a surprisingly thoughtful question: what does a successful relationship really look like? The episode wraps with an open call to listeners—are there other couples out there like this? Because if there are, JB and Tricia want to hear from you. Why You'll Want to Listen: Laugh out loud at painfully relatable everyday moments Hear one of the most unconventional (and entertaining) takes on marriage Play along with the easiest trivia game that somehow still feels stressful Get a dose of real, unfiltered morning radio chemistry Memorable Moments & Quotes: “If we're both doing math in our heads, I'm just pretending—it's all on you.” “I hated those things when I was a kid. I don't want to do them now.” “We did not marry our best friend.” “It just makes me want to turn it inside out.” If this episode made you laugh, cringe, or nod in agreement, don't keep it to yourself—subscribe, leave a review, and share it with someone who needs a good laugh today. Your support helps more listeners find the chaos and comedy of JB and Sandy!

In March, SAG-AFTRA hosted The 32nd Annual Actor Awards Presented by SAG-AFTRA, which streamed live on Netflix from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The show has been honoring outstanding performances in film and television for 32 years as the Screen Actors Guild Awards®, but this year marked the first ceremony under its new name. The night was a roaring success with some truly memorable and funny moments, thanks in no small part to an incredible production team. To take us behind the curtain and share some insider stories, we're joined by three people who made it all happen: Jon Brockett, showrunner and executive producer; Russell Norman, the show's director; and Steven Murphy, our head writer. *The views expressed by guests are their own and do not necessarily reflect the views of their organization or SAG-AFTRA.
✨ "The horses don't see the stories. They see who you are right now — and what you brought with you." – Jane StrongJane Strong is the founder and executive director of The Equus Effect, a nonprofit based in Connecticut, USA, that uses equine-assisted experiences to help veterans and first responders rebuild healthy relationships — with themselves, each other, and their communities. What sets Jane's work apart is her refusal to treat trauma as a diagnosis to manage. A former ethnographic researcher who spent decades studying subcultures for corporate clients, Jane came to horses and veterans with the same tool she'd always trusted: genuine curiosity. The Equus Effect's 16-hour curriculum blends somatic body-based practices, emotional agility training, and progressive groundwork with horses — all without metaphor, without therapy-speak, and without telling a veteran what anything means. This conversation covers Jane's unusual path — from advertising research to Monty Roberts to a 30-year-old Mustang who taught her that guilt is a waste of time — and dives deep into why horses are uniquely suited to reach the people hardest to reach: the ones still scanning for threats, still waiting for the playbook, still paying a nervous system tax no one else can see.If you want to support the show, you can do so at Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/LongRideHome

A lifelong relationship with anxiety and fear around horses, a family crisis at 18 when her father suffered a stroke that pulled her into an early adult role, and years inside the hyper-demanding world of sport horse training — including a period where her own anxiety became so acute she could barely ride — all of it has shaped a practitioner who speaks from earned experience, not theory. In this conversation, Rupert and Kira go deep on what resilience actually means — for horses, for humans, and for the practitioners who work with both. They move through the groundwork methodology Kira developed starting sensitive warmbloods, the specific exercises that release tension and build connection, and how those same principles apply when working with autistic children. They explore why always being calm may be the wrong goal, how to move through fear rather than wait for it to pass, and why the trauma conversation risks tipping into a place that keeps people stuck. This is a wide-ranging, experience-backed conversation that will resonate with anyone who works with horses, with neurodivergent individuals, or with their own inner life.If you want to support the show, you can do so at Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/LongRideHome

November 9th,1985 … A White House dinner for the Prince of Wales and the Princess of Wales ... Charles and Diana … Here's President Ronald Reagan: "In his 1941 address before a Joint Session of the United States Congress, Prime Minister Churchill remarked, 'I cannot help reflecting that if my father had been American and my mother British, instead of the other way around, I might have got here on my own.' But Your Royal Highnesses, the reception you've received here suggests that if you had been American, you might well have gotten to this house on your own." When President Reagan cited that 1941 Winston Churchill speech, Charles was a Prince. Now, he's a King. And on April 28th, 2026, he'll be the one addressing Congress. • Which other British leaders have made speeches in Congress? • What did they say? • Which American presidents did they most frequently cite? • And what surprises did the British bring? Find out in this week's episode of C-SPAN's podcast "Extreme Mortman" – as we set the scene for the historic appearance in Congress – of King Charles. Learn more about your ad choices. Phew this is a big pod today, one of our longer ones....we try to keep the main pod no longer than an hour, but it's a tad hard in Masters week! We start today with Mark asking Nick how he prepared for The Masters given he played it 4 times. Nick explains what he did, and he talks about the first time he saw the course, and what he did. He explains the how the wind works on 11,12, and 13. We talk about preparation in the lead-up, and Nick explains why living at Isleworth in Florida was the perfect preparation - if you know why, the story is worth hearing again, if you don't - it is wild. Mark asks about the risks of overdoing your preparation when you arrive at Augusta, particularly as the course is so hilly. The facilities have had an upgrade at Augusta (of course they have, they're loaded), and we hear about the new carpark for the players....sheez.Onto the Ryder Cup, with Tiger now not in consideration, who will be the captain for the US team? We talk about the names being mentioned and Nick and Mark suggest who they think it will be and why.Mark runs through The Masters '6's'. That is: 1966, 1976, 1986, 1996, 2006 - all years where extraordinary things happened. And he tells a great story about Greg Norman from the 96 Masters, not great for Greg, or for Australians, but amusing in hindsight. What about the Augusta National Women's Amateur - 18-year old Raegan Denton from Adelaide finished T4, the highest ever finish by an Australian in the tournament! A star on the rise for sure, and we award her our Hostplus 'Plus for Golf' this week. She certainly is.After the turn, into the back 9....sorry, Masters week so it's the second 9. We hear about a few of the rules at Augusta, overall they are strict but they all add to the prestige. For BMW our Touch of Class goes to Justin Rose, Nick watched his interview at Augusta and given the pressure he must be feeling, it really was a classy interview. Then, for Betr, Nick lists the Top 5 memorable moments from the 12th hole at Augusta...there are some absolute rippers!Feedback for Southern Golf Club is Masters centric this week: comments from you on 1986, on Rory from last year, The Shark in 86, Nick's results, and a great story from David in Brasil about Jack Nicklaus in 86, which Mark follows up with an amazing Golden Bear stat.Lots of results for Nick to run through in the PING Globals today....we divert slightly from them to hear a story of Nicks run-in with US Police, and how he got out of it....sneaky...And finally, Mark's Masterclass for Golf Clearance Outlet is on lag putting - when the greens are running hot, and there are undulating greens, lag putting is your friend. Nick and Mark discuss. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Hostplus, Talk Birdie To Me's official retirement partnerBMW, luxury and comfort for the 19th hole;Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best;Golf Clearance Outlet, they beat everyone's prices;Betr, the fastest and easiest betting app in Australia; And Southern Golf Club. Petra Vlasblom is a Dutch horse behavior specialist based in the Netherlands, founder of 2Moons, and one of Europe's most sought-after trainers for problem horses — particularly in the high-stakes world of elite sport horses. She came to the profession not through a traditional equestrian route, but as a former graphic designer from the city who fell in love with an "unrideable" horse that nobody else could manage, and whose path to becoming a professional was shaped as much by personal crisis as by equine knowledge. What makes Petra's story and her work unusual is the degree to which her own life has mirrored the horses she works with. Her first horse, Two Moons — still alive today — broke her arm, dislocated her hip, and ultimately catalyzed years of deep personal work. A later riding accident broke her neck and forced a four-month recovery period that fundamentally changed how she listens: not with her head, not with her heart, but with her gut. That shift is now at the core of everything she teaches. In this conversation, Rupert and Petra cover the full arc of her journey — from a childhood with no horses and a career in graphic design, to buying an impossible horse on a whim in Belgium, to running a professional school for horse behavior in France, to the neck injury that changed everything. They go deep on her methods for trailer loading, her framework for reading horse body language at the moment of decision, her "software install" philosophy for training both horse and owner, and what she believes all therapeutic equine programs need to address around herd dynamics and horse wellbeing. The conversation closes with a shared invitation: Petra and Rupert will be running a joint workshop in the Netherlands in June 2026 — details at https://longridehome.com/events.If you want to support the show, you can do so at Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/LongRideHome

In this episode of Equine Assisted World, Rupert Isaacson speaks with Lucy Dillon, who runs the equine unit at ChildVision in Drumcondra — right in the center of Dublin, Ireland.ChildVision (formerly St. Joseph's School for the Blind) provides services for children and young people with visual impairments and complex needs. Unlike most equine‑assisted programs located in rural areas, Lucy's program operates in the middle of a major city — serving populations who would otherwise have little or no access to horses.Lucy shares the realities of running an urban equine therapy program: balancing horse welfare with limited space, designing programs for children with visual impairment and multiple disabilities, and maintaining high standards of horsemanship within a therapeutic setting. The conversation explores Lucy's path through traditional British horse training, riding schools, equine education, and professional qualifications before transitioning into therapeutic work. She discusses how the structure and discipline of classical horsemanship become essential foundations for safe and effective equine‑assisted programs.Together, Rupert and Lucy examine how horses support children with sensory and neurological challenges, how urban equine programs can remain sustainable, and why good horsemanship remains the backbone of any meaningful therapeutic practice. If you want to support the show, you can do so at Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/LongRideHome

What if one of the most important leadership skills… is the one we're rarely taught to name?In this episode, Yo Canny sits down with Jessica Pryce-Jones — executive coach and author — for a grounded, research-informed conversation on intuition as a legitimate leadership capability.Jessica shares what she's learned after 25 years in learning and leadership development, why intuition becomes more essential the higher you rise (including the striking insight that 99% of CEOs say they use it), and how to strengthen your “inner knowing” without slipping into bias, ego, or wishful thinking. This conversation brings intuition out of the “woo-woo” category and into practical leadership language — including simple tools you can use immediately, like Jessica's Yes/No body-based exercise and the surprising coin-flip method that reveals what you truly want.________________________________In This Episode, We Explore* What intuition really is: a “feeling of knowing”* Why leaders often hide intuition — and how to “reposition” it in corporate language* The research behind intuition and senior leadership (and why it's critical for strategy)* The different forms of intuition, including: * Expert intuition * Non-expert intuition * Moral intuition * Temporal intuition (timing) * Social intuition * Team intuition * Creative intuition* Why a positive mindset improves intuitive accuracy — and how stress shuts it down* How to recognize an intuitive leader (hint: it's not “I have a hunch, do it my way”)* A practical way to identify your internal YES / NO signals* The “coin toss” technique that doesn't rely on the coin — it reveals what you truly want________________________________Memorable Moments* “Intuition is a feeling of knowing.”* “If you're not using your intuition, somebody else will be.”* “Intention is the action.
