One dietitian with three decades of experience believes RDNs must be a part debunking nutrition myths and overcoming food bullying to help people enjoy food. Is eating well on a budget…impossible? Dr. Keith Ayoob, EdD, RDN, FAND, CDN, is an Associate Professor Emeritus in the department of pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, NY, where, for over 30 years he directed a nutrition clinic for children with special needs. Dr. Ayoob has also worked with numerous commodity and nutrition organizations to help dispel nutrition myths and misconceptions. Sharing his own experiences as a graduate student and drawing on his vast work experience in the poorest congressional district in the nation, Dr. Ayoob has come to the conclusion that it is indeed possible to eat well on a tight budget, despite the common misconception that it has to be “complicated and expensive.” “NONE of my families can afford organic foods or even farmer's market foods - and they don't have to in order to be healthy and feed their families well,” says Dr. Ayoob. Highlighting the importance of meeting patients where they are (both literally - as in where they shop, and figuratively, as in where they are in their respective health journeys), Dr. Ayoob discusses the importance of cultural sensitivity when making dietary recommendations, and that having a deeper understanding of agriculture can help dietitians inspire confidence in their patients. Listen in as Dr. Ayoob offers tips on food modeling, his thoughts on plant-based diets, social media, and more. "My body is anot a trend" sums up his thinking. On the latest episode of The Dairy Download, we dive into the war on school milk being waged in New York City and its implications for school milk across the country. What are the implications of such an action on child health and nutrition? Dr. Ayoob gives us his insight.Next is Rick Naczi, CEO at American Dairy Association North East (ADANE). Rick lays out the importance of school meals for milk consumption and outlines Mayor Adams' actions to remove flavored milk for NYC school meals and his subsequent backing off from those actions in recent months. Riding Shotgun With Charlie #045 Massad Ayoob The Man, The Myth, The Legend! What can I say? He’s been the self defense go to guru since the 1970’s. He’s been influential on instructors, police officer, and authors since he started. He started the Lethal Force Institute in New Hampshire. LFI turned into Massad Ayoob Group and the MAG 20 and MAG 40 courses. Mas has author two dozen books in guns, the effects and aftermath of dealing with a lethal encounter. The Gun Rights Policy Conference in Tampa 2016 is when I first met Mas. I asked him to sign my copy of In The Gravest Extreme. I also mentioned Riding Shotgun With Charlie and I’d love to have him as a passenger. Alan Gottlieb was behind him and he say “Mas, you’ve GOT to to Riding Shotgun With Charlie!”. Mas said “OK, when do we do this?”. I said “Well, I don’t have a car, but if you give me your contact I’ll see what I can set up.”. I was shocked it was “that easy” to ask. I went to New Hampshire in the summer of 2018 to hear Mas speak about suicide prevention. I spoke with his wife Gail Pepin about the possibility of setting up and interview and she was very receptive. Kevin Sona (RSWC #043) asked me to speak at the Florida Carry event in February 2019. Then he tells me that Mas is speaking as well would I be interested in having him on RSWC. Um….YEAH!!! After speaking at the event, Mas agreed to get into the passenger seat, drive around with a stranger, in a place neither of us have been to. This was a big deal for me. In this episode Hana Ayoob explores the importance of Wallace's companion, Ali, and the role that indigenous knowledges, acknowledgements, and understanding our relationships with other mammals play in biological sciences. Taking the Organtun displayed in the Hintze Hall of the Natural History Museum, we explore why Wallace's guide Ali is included in the display, and what this can tell us about biological knowledge circulation in the past, as well as the present.Hana Ayoob is a creative producer, science communicator and illustrator. She is passionate about bringing people together to explore the world around them. Hana studied zoology at university, and she remains interested in how zoological research is conducted and interpreted.

“A great diet is one that balances what we know we need with what we don't want to live without. I'd never tell some they should never eat this food or that one. It's about how much and how often. Getting healthier has to be enjoyable.” – Dr. Keith Ayoob Tune in as I talk with my friend and fellow dietitian Dr. Keith Ayoob about the sweetener stevia, umami – the fifth basic taste, and Keith’s fun workout session with Lance Pekus the Cowboy Ninja. Do you believe a detox diet can help you regain health? Are you confused as to which detox will work best? STOP! Dr. Keith Ayoob dispels the myths and misinformation surrounding this popular diet. According to Dr. Ayoob, nutrition confusion causes a consumer/patient to say, “no”, to stay put, and to not make changes to their diet or lifestyle. And the confusion is so unnecessary. He wants people to feed their families and themselves in the best way possible for the time and budget they have. People don’t want hype and noise, and they don’t want academic-speak that requires a PhD to understand. They usually tell me, “Just, give me your take, and cut to the chase.” Dr. Keith Ayoob is an Associate Clinical Professor Emeritus at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City where he has maintained a clinical practice for over 30 years, specializing in obesity, child nutrition, and family dynamics. http://cuttothechasenutrition.com
George Burton Adams said: “There is no such thing as a 'self-made' man. We are made up of thousands of others. Everyone who has ever done a kind deed for us, or spoken one word of encouragement to us, has entered into the make-up of our character and of our thoughts, as well as our success.” Armed Citizens News, Michael J. Woodland on bore sighting, what is it? I have a new project coming, and encouraging the old guys, the OG’s Crossbreed Holsters dot com and the United States Concealed Carry Assoication present, the black man with a gun show , the show that celebrates Americana, freedom, encourages, inspires, and introduces interesting people, new products from the internationally known Black Man With A Gun, and that’s me, Kenn Blanchard. If you would like to reach me my contact info is on black man with a gun dot com I have discovered that the best people in my life, listen to this show. I didn’t go to the SHOT Show because I didn’t have a plan. I could go, spend the money, see folks in the industry that I love but couldn’t motivate myself to do it. I am trying to do something more than just beg for money and look like I am doing something. I want to really make a difference. I’m older now, don’t like wasting time, yours or mine. You with me on that? This show is dedicated to the guys that have survived to sport the gray hair. Fellas, don’t be ashamed, don’t get stressed out about being older, or not looking like you did when you were 25. Going to talk about middle age a little on this show and let you know its better than OK. Its going to be our redemption song. Maybe it’s the Jamaican coffee but I am feeling mellow, so this show is going to stay low key. This show might put some of you 5-11 shorts, tactical vest chest wearing, never been in combat, 3 pt slinging call of duty addicted, adrenaline junkies to sleep but that is alright, this is for the OG’s. This is for the fathers of adult children, the men that remember who Walter Cronkite was, watched the Jetsons, the Beverly Hillbillies, got a transistor radio for Christmas, remember when the Dick van Dyke show wasn’t a reference to a girl on girl porno flick, saw Johnny Carson on TV, JFK, and the Beatles. Fellas, I was born in the same year as Wesley Snipes, Tom Cruise, Matthew Broderick, Axl Rose, Ralph Fiennes, Demi Moore, Jim Carrey, and Sheryl Crow. The year was 1962. I survived civil rights, school busing, and some stuff that I can’t even speak about. You should be proud to have made it too. I know if you are active on the net, facebook, forums etc, the younger guys rule for the most part and you can feel kinda out of it. I am here to tell you, its all good. We were young once too. If they are fortunate that might make it to our age. It made me think about the movie The Unforgiven and the Shootist, Rooster Cogburn and the movies where the old guys still got it. When I started in security and then law enforcement I was trained with and carried a smith and Wesson model 19. That means I used the fabled speed loaders extensibly. Courses were really static practical pistol courses back then with a lot of time and barricades. I carried a revolver in my travels prior abroad too, I switched to Browning Hi-Power however when I started doing executive personal protection details in Central and Latin America and the Middle East. The coveted trainers were the now gone guys, Charles Taylor, Jeff Cooper and their disciples. Masaad Ayoob was there too, but he was the smarter one. He dealt with the mind more than the macho. He has progressed and kept up with the times unlike many of the old dudes. It was the age of the .45. You weren’t cool if you carried a 9mm but I usually did because it was easier to obtain 9mm internationally, and made a smaller footprint. Who was the gringo looking for .45 caliber ammunition esse? I trained ivy league types going into hostile environment, I qualified police and security officers for duty. I shared some of my mistakes carrying in countries where it was illegal for a foreigner to be armed. I shared stories of what happens when the feces hits the oscillating device. By the time I got to the Far east, I was using the Glock 17 first generation of course! In the 90’s I opened a business to help security guards qualify for armed duty and the new gun owner be safer that bombed. The guards didn’t want training they just wanted permission to carry so they could get paid higher than the unarmed post. Most hated firearms, didn’t know about gun rights, history or the sports involved. I’ve actually hit more bad guys when I was driving in the protective details I was on that I have shot people but that is something for another time. I was checking out the AR-15 world and on the rifle front, I am kinda lacking. I carried an uzi and a HK MP-5 a few times when I wasn’t the advance or on hot seat. I carried an M-16A1 back in corps. All back in the days of wine and roses of course. Today, I hear the same arguments I did back in 1991 when I started my firearms training company. I think that is why I am so melancholy, been doing this stuff a long time and didn’t win the war. Still hear folks talking about 9 mm over the .45. For the record, I agree that the 1911 has its place but your choice for a self-defense side arm should be a newer polymer, double stacked something. We used to say if you need more than two rounds you are in combat and have the wrong firearm anyway. Well, I have since understood that bad guys have evolved and become more tribal. You are likely to have multiple attackers, a mob or a gang and need that spare magazine. Folks don’t stay down when shot. They don’t surrender if you don’t stop them and life in general is just going to suck during and after the incident so get over it, get through it and survive. Everything is not combat though. You can’t live in a Call of Duty condition. So listen up you wanna-bee, mall ninjas, keyboard commandoes, three gun gear nerds, if you decide to get a concealed carry permit, its not a hunting permit on people that piss you off. All threats don’t require lethal force. If you can you can leave, leave. If someone hurts your feelings, insults you wife, live with it. I am saying this because just it just seems to be a rash of stupid people making the news. Too many immature, untrained and unskilled guys out there itching for a gunfight. The only person I know out there teaching you how not to end up on the news, on YouTube, and in jail through necessary judicious use of force curriculum is Massad. I know you bought the firearm, You got the magazines, the pouches, the belts, the pants with the pockets, you got ammo for days, but every day is not combat.
One of the ways that I work to stay sharp as an instructor and as a students of self-defense is to host other instructors. This past weekend, I hosted David Maglio of Concealed Carry Associates for a MAG-30 course. Way back when I took a MTG "Shoot till you puke" course and the high round count weekend was one of the ways I drove past a plateau in my shooting. I shot faster with more precision after than weekend. In order to offer that same opportunity to students of SSA I talked with David Maglio and we set up a date for him to teach his MAG-30 at Southington Hunt Club. This is our wrap up of that course. In this episode of the SSA Podcast: I chat with David Maglio on our ride to the airport after wrapping up a MAG-30 Course in NE Ohio. We discuss topics like: What the course progression is inside the Massad Ayoob Group What prompted David to develop the MAG-30 What struggles David typically sees when students are in the midst of a MAG-30 and what growth they experience as a result The square range, tradition and history vs. reality Surviving the violent encounter vs. surviving the legal aftermath Sights and how they can help or hinder And much more! There is a lot of negativity in the gun community today. We are going backwards. I address it, peal it back and dare you to admit if you have contributed to it. Today on the Safety Solutions Academy Podcast we are going to chat with Kevin Creighton a gun blogger at Misfires and Light Strikes. Kevin is also a freelance writer for Lucky Gunner, Ricochet and Shooting Illustrated. We chat with Kevin about my recent trip to Little Rock Arkansas and the Ringmaster Tactical Conference, the MAG-40 he will be attending in early May in NE Ohio and about a new dry fire training product he is involved in developing called the Interactive Training Pistol. The Rangemaster Tactical Conference was an outstanding seminar. While there I had the chance to spend time with tons of great people, learn a ton and I had an all around fun time as well. On May 4th Safety Solutions Academy will be kicking off it's third annual MAG-40 Course with Massad Ayoob. You can find out more and get registered by following this link. Kevin is involved with brining a new dry fire training pistol to market and an indiegogo campaign for the IPTS launches on April 15th. We talk a bit about the Interactive Pistol Training System and what it can do to help improve your understanding of your shooting skills. You can learn more by following the link to the Interactive Pistol Training System page. Thanks for tuning in to the Safety Solutions Academy Podcast. On March 21st those of us that carry concealed handguns in the state of Ohio awoke to some important changes in the law. The following list of changes comes from the very comprehensive Buckeye Firearms Association website. I made some changes to the order of presentation, but the list is not my original list. The commentary you hear in the podcast are my original thoughts on the latest revision to the Ohio Revised Code regarding Concealed Carry. Ohio CCW pdf You can find the article that outlines the changes to the Ohio Revised Code regarding concealed carry here. The 2017 MAG-40 is coming soon to Safety Solutions Academy You can find more information on the MAG-40 that Safety Solutions Academy is hosting by following this link. There is more to concealed carry than knowing how to shoot and understanding when and where you can carry a gun. It is the knowledge you gain in a class like a MAG-40 that can significantly improve your ability to defend yourself from both a violent attack and from the legal battle that you could face as the result of a lawful use of force. This is why the MAG-40 is such a valuable course.

This past year at the SSA MAG 40 with Massad Ayoob one of the students that attended class was Steve Kent. I have had the pleasure of training with Steve in the past at Paul-E-Palooza events and was glad to have Steve back. Steve is a corrections officer in the State of New York and is an avid trainer. He spends time as both an instructor and a student. Being that Steve works in the New York state prison system it makes sense that Steve has some experience with violent criminals and their behavior. In today's show, we talk with Steve about how you can fail the interview process that violent criminals put you through, we talk about how you can fail that interview and why you want to. We also dive into lessons learned on the range during the range portion of the MAG40. Be sure to take a look at the information on this year's MAG 40 which will be May 4-7, 2017 in North East Ohio! Make sure to subscribe to the SSA Podcast in your favorite podcast app. I'd also appreciate it if you could head to SSA.Training/itunes to leave an honest rating and a review of the show. Finally check out the show notes for this episode at SSA.Training/404.
We learn best by doing. The problem with learning by doing however, is the fact that you actually have to surmount the difficulties you face to learn the lessons. It seems, the more important the lessons, the more difficult the learning. There is an alternative. We can learn from the experiences of others if we are really committed to studying their experiences and if they are willing to share. Over the past six months, Paul Lathrop, the host of the Polite Society Podcast, and an over the road trucker has been learning some difficult and challenging legal lessons. Paul broke no laws the night he was involved in a seemingly benign truck stop confrontation. Only words were exchanged. No blows were thrown or weapons drawn so it seemed that things had ended in a relatively simple manner. 30 minutes later, Paul and his trainee were stopped on I-80 by the Nebraska Highway Patrol. When Paul arrived back at the truck stop to sort things out, the deputy dealing with the situation placed Paul under arrest. Soon Paul found himself spending more than 4 days in a county jail without medication that he needed, or a clue about what would come next. Paul takes some time today to discuss the situation that he found himself in, the struggles that he faced and the mistakes that he feels he made so that you can learn how to avoid those same pitfalls. Make sure to take a look at these important resources: Massad Ayoob Group MAG-40 with SSA in NE Ohio May 4-7 2017 MAG-40 with Paul and Susan Lathrop in Sioux Falls SD, June 15-19, 2017 - email susan at gunsandpolitics.com Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network Make sure to keep an eye out for more information about the Self Defense Radio Network.
After the second day of range at the most recent MAG 40 course hosted by Safety Solutions Academy I sat down and spoke with a gaggle of students that participated in class. The students were from a wide variety of backgrounds and from geographical locations from around the US. I like to get to know the students that I am working with, especially the students that face challenges. Richard faces the challenge of living and working in a State that has little respect for his God given rights. NJ. Today we talk to Richard about NJ, concealed carry, the RTKBA and a whole host of other subjects. Make sure to take a look at NJSafe.net. Welcome to the Safety Solutions Academy Podcast. I have an outstanding interview for you today with an excellent guest and I'm not going to waste any time before we dive in. Today we are going to talk to Massad Ayoob: Internationally know firearms and self-defense instructor who specializes in the laws surrounding the use of lethal force. He has authored more than 20 books and in excess of 1,000 articles on firearms, combat techniques, self-defense, and legal issues, and has served in an editorial capacity for multiple magazines including: Guns Magazine, American Handgunner, Guns & Ammo, Combat Handguns and Gun Week. Since 1995, he has written self-defense and firearms related articles for Backwoods Home Magazine which also makes Mas a prolific blogger. He also has been featured on a segment on the television show Personal Defense TV Ayoob has extensive courtroom experience as a testifying police officer, expert witness, and police prosecutor. Even with all that courtroom experience, he is not an attorney Ayoob is, however, a former Vice Chairman of the Forensic Evidence Committee of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers His published work was cited by the Violence Policy Center in their amicus curiae brief filed with the U.S. Supreme Court in the District of Columbia v. Heller case. Additionally Ayoob filed a declaration in a second amicus brief in this case. News coverage of Massad Ayoob and what he has accomplished has appeared in or on: Los Angeles Times Boston Globe New York Post National Enquirer ABC's "20/20" BBC News Magazine Massad Akoob has taught police techniques and civilian self-defense to both law enforcement officers and private citizens since 1974 We have spoken with Massad Ayoob before, but today's episode is different. We spend very little time talking about the legalities of the use of deadly force and instead, hold true to what I am trying to accomplish withe the Safety Solutions Academy Podcast by conducting deep dive interviews that take a look at our world in a way that hasn't been previously considered. In today's episode of the Safety Solutions Academy podcast, we talk about topics such as: His very serious introduction to defensive firearms at the age of 12 How he developed his focus on the legalities of the use of deadly force How the shooting landscape has changed through the 50's, 60's and into today. And of course the upcoming mag 40 hosted by Safety Solutions Academy In June where a whole slew of folks will have the opportunity to spend time with Massad Ayoob. Stick around to the end of the show and I will let you know how you can attend this course. We hit all of those topics and so much more! I hope you enjoy today's show with an industry Icon, Massad Ayoob as much as I enjoyed recording it! Please visit SafetySolutionsAcademy.com and check out the MAG 40 course at this link to get registered today.
When I teach concealed carry classes (and I try to average 1 CCW class each month just to stay in touch with those new to defensive handguns) I am always impressed by the number of people that are ignorant of the legal aspects of self-defense, especially the use of deadly force. I shouldn't be so surprised. The legal system can be complicated and when it comes to self-defense it is even more complicated that one would hope for. Many attorneys don't understand the finer points of the legal system and self-defense. The problem is that when it comes to both the criminal and the civil legal systems in the U.S., ignorance is not an excuse for stepping outside the bounds of the law. This leads us to another challenge. Often people that are ignorant don't know they are ignorant. How could they? How can people know what they don't know? It is for this reason that I host Massad Ayoob and the Massad Ayoob Group every year for the MAG-40 course. This is an outstanding opportunity to learn what you don't know and need to know abut the legalities of self-defense and the use of lethal force. If you depend on a gun for self-defense, the MAG classes should be considered required. Today we take a tiny look at what you should be seeking out when it comes to legal knowledge. You see, there are things that you can do, simple things, before, during and after a violent encounter to help and reduce the likelihood of you running into an undeserved legal quagmire that can easily cost you 10's of thousands of dollars to defend against and could cost you your physical freedom and/or your personal financial security. The steps are simple so listen carefully and then take action! If you get a chance, swing by iTunes and leave a rating and a review for the SSA Podcast and don't forget to subscribe so that the new shows are delivered right to your favorite listening device!
Are You Making Concealed Carry Mistakes? The stakes of violence are high and for that reason we would like to know as much as possible about the ways that we can really keep ourselves safer. For many people, the solution is carrying a handgun concealed. I agree that concealed carry is important, but at the same time, the self-defense industry is rife with issues. One of the biggest issues is that a large percentage of people are making some significant mistakes when it comes to concealed carry. The question you need to be asking yourself is are YOU making a concealed carry mistake that could cost you your life? Concealed Carry Mistakes: Big errors might be more common than you think. In fact, you might be making what I consider a concealed carry mistakes. The reason why is simple, the self-defense arm of the gun industry is full of misinformation that is passes off as the gold standard. In most cases, this isn't done on purpose, but that doesn't make the consequences any less severe for people that head into real violence with bad conceptual information. That's the problem. The consequences are severe and can be as severe as a loss of your personal freedom or your financial security. It's for that reason that you need to know about common concealed carry mistakes and take an honest account of your situation and make changes if you choose to. 5 Common Concealed Carry Mistakes: What you can expect from today's show. In today's episode of the Safety Solutions Academy Podcast we are going to take a look at: Why it is an error if you only carry your gun when you think you are going to need it. The real reason why carrying with an empty chamber is a concealed carry mistake. The issues that surround off body carry and why it could be a serious CCW error. Why you need to widen your horizon beyond firearm solutions for your safety. Take Advantage of These Important Resources: You can read more information on 5 Common Concealed Carry Mistakes by visiting the Safety Solutions Academy website. You might want to take a look at this video on carrying a round in the chamber. Here is What You Should Do Next: Subscribe to the Safety Solutions Academy Podcast and please leave a rating and review. Take a critical look at your concealed carry habits and consider if you might be making some mistakes that need correcting. Programledare: Ivar Ekman ivar.ekman@sr.se Producent: Ulrika Bergqvist ulrika.bergquist@sr.se
For twenty five years I have been a gun rights activist and firearms trainer known internationally as the Black Man With A Gun. I’ve seen them come and I’ve seen them go. I almost faded myself but my time has not yet come. I am here to help and teach, support the next generation of American freedom fighters, patriots and leaders. This week, I catch up Phil Smith, founder of the National African American Gun Owners Association. He is our featured guest and we plan to have weekly updates here on the show. Also on your show, I have new firearms trainer Michael J. Woodland with a tip of the week. And our expert trainer, author and friend indulges me on my silly question and quest for info about 1911’s again. As this is my gun focus for the month. I answer the most asked question received when I am lecturing and speaking professionally; “How Do We Get More Black People Into Our Organization?” http://naaga.co http://blackmanwithagun.com http://2AO.org http://10dollargunclub.com http://mobileministry.us http://patreon.com/blackmanwithagun
This week begins the 8th year of me podcasting. And on this episode of the Black Man With a Gun Show Podcast I have a conversation with renown instructor, and friend Mas Ayoob about the .45. Introducing a new feature with the help of Michael J. Woodland on training. Going to ask you to help me with a new organization called 2AO, who would survive the zombie apocalypse and what too much caffeine does. Be amazing and support this show. http://blackmanwithagun.com/amazing Join http://2AO.org
It would be nice to live in a world where a good defensive shoot was a good defensive shoot. The unfortunate reality is that there are many things that can get involved in the legal aspect of self-defense that simply don't belong there. Of course sometimes people make errors, or they misunderstand, but people also attack others for political gain and in the name of “social progress.” When you consider what is at stake when you find yourself in the legal system as the result of a defensive gun use, it makes sense to consider how you can position yourself best to avoid the potential loss of freedom and the serious financial consequences that can come from a bout with the legal system. Massad Ayoob on Deadly Force Massad Ayoob began writing in the firearms industry in 1971 and as an author, law enforcement officer and expert witness he quickly became the industry's noted expert on the use of deadly force. Mas continues his work today traveling the country and instructing law enforcement officers and armed citizens in the use of deadly force and the legal defense of the use of deadly force. Massad Ayoob Group's MAG-20 is a 20 hour lecture based course designed to help the layman understand the critical nuances that make self-defense law different from other forms of criminal law and for the cost of less than two hours with a top criminal attorney students are able to get a more solid grasp on self-defense law than most attorneys receive in their formal education. Each year Safety Solutions Academy hosts Massad Ayoob for both his MAG-20 and MAG-40 course which includes 20 hours of live fire training. Dates for the 2016 courses will be coming soon. Gila Hayes' book, Personal Defense for Women, is a great resource for any woman thinking about her own defense, from effectively preventing or avoiding situations that would call for the use of force to finding the right firearm and getting the appropriate training. One consideration we all share for personal defense is defense in the home, and Gila devotes a whole chapter to these various issues, which we dip into here. Thanks for listening and Semper Portare!
