In Nates words - who he is:I'm the oldest of 5 siblings, someone who is highly ambitious, and I love to share God's love with others! My friendships have helped shape the man I've become, and nothing is more important than the people I allow to influence my life!I'm a Mechanical Engineer from Louisiana Tech University, and have now worked over 10 years in the Energy Industry. My roles have consisted of a mix of technical and leadership in various forms of Equipment Design, Project Management, Operations Support. I've worked in power plants, refineries, on offshore drilling rigs and production platforms, and traveled all over the U.S., Africa, and Europe.I've directly managed upwards of $100 Million in projects for ExxonMobil the past 7 years, and I attribute my success to goal setting, planning, co-workers that mentored/taught me, the Bible, and my close friends.I've always had a deep passion for sports and competition, and my athleticism has continued to grow as I gain confidence and strength through focused training.Athletic Bio: I was the top varsity player for my high school tennis team for 2 years. Football was my favorite sport, but I weighed around 130 lbs in high school, and it wasn't an option. Once I went to college, I set my sights on walking on to the Louisiana Tech University football team. By my sophomore year I'd bulked up to 195 lbs, and had been working out with several guys on the team in order to be ready for spring tryouts. I cleared several of the initial tests to join the team, but soon after I was severely injured in an off the field burn accident, which gave me 2nd and 3rd degree burns, put me in the burn ICU hospital unit for 2 weeks, and left me in a wheelchair. After getting out, I'd lost around 25 pounds of muscle, and couldn't bend my knees without incredible pain. It was one of the toughest times of my life, and ended my dream of playing college football. The next 6 months of my life were a steady rehab of regaining strength and flexibility, working through my engineering classes and internships, and continuing to push on to new physical challenges.American Ninja Warrior:I've competed on ANW for 7 seasons! The show and competition represents a chance for me to apply all of my prior athletic training, passion for football /competitive sports, and now compete on the big stage again! It's a chance for me to overcome prior injuries, setback, and disappointment, and push myself and others to new levels! I applied for season's 6 & 7, but wasn't accepted, so I went through the walk-on process to be a part of the show. I was officially accepted to ANW on season 8 (2016), and beat the regional qualifier and advanced through the regional finals. That year I went on to compete in the Vegas National Finals! Unfortunately an ankle break/sprain ended my run at the beginning of stage 1.My brothers Joel & Ben Burkhalter have both competed on the show, and advanced to the regional finals of their respective episodes.2016 also led to Team Ninja Warrior with Daniel Gil and Barclay Stockett! We advanced to the Final 4, after starting with 32 other teams! I sustained a shoulder injury in the finals round, which ended that season…2017 & 2018 seasons both went well, but I placed 16th in the regional finals, and didn't make one of the top 15 spots that advanced to the Vegas National Finals2019 - the year of BREAKTHROUGH! Advanced through Tacoma regional qualifiers and finals, and placed 10th overall, which qualified me for the Las Vegas National Finals! I had a huge breakthrough, and beat stage 1 of the National Finals for the 1st time in my ninja career!Got serious food poisioning and lost 12 lbs of fluids before stage 2 run, but moved into elite status by BEATING STAGE 2 with only ONE SECOND REMAINING!EXATLON EEUU - Worlds Toughest Reality TV Athletic Completion!I was blessed to be accepted to season 4 of Exatlon Estados Unidos (United States), one of Telemundo Networks top tv shows (owned by NBC Uni).I competed on Team Famosos for 7 months. The show format consisted of daily obstacle course racing against members of the opposite team. The environment was challenging, because it took many themes and elements from Survivor and blended them into the competition. Competitors were without cell phones, tv, email, computers, and access to basic elements of life like books, journals, freedom to leave the competition area or “home”, and were unable to have vitamins, protien powder, recovery tools, etc. The toughest element of the competition was having no conneection to the outside world; no phone calls or texts with friends or family. No news of home or of the world (i.e. we didn't know about the COVID-19 Pandemic for 3 months).I battled through the daily competitions, and survived 23 weeks of eliminations, 3 serious injuries (achilles tendon, ruptured discs in neck, fractured ankle), and the language barrier (show was solely in Spanish), all to make it to the final week and end up being crowned the Grand Champion!www.nolimitsnat.comwww.livelifedriven.com
While there's no denying that ANW has solidified its place in the world of sports entertainment (which comes as ‘Ninja Warrior' is being considered for inclusion at the 2028 Olympic Games!), the producers behind ANW from A. Smith & Co. Productions firmly believe that the show's storytelling component is what sets it apart. As a sport that encourages people who can't participate in traditional sports to join in, ANW has made historic strides in cultivating diversity on-screen by featuring the astounding stories of athletes with disabilities conquering the courses – proving how “Ninja Warrior” is an inclusive way for all to stay active. Additionally, as a sport that encourages athletes to compete against the course rather than one another, “Ninja Warrior” has cultivated a new approach to teamwork and camaraderie. ANW has created an incredibly strong ‘Ninja Warrior' community and self-sustaining ecosystem as countless contestants stay within theANW universe, creating jobs such as ‘Ninja Warrior' training gyms, motivational speaking, and more. Not to mention how many contestants return to compete in the ANW arena 5+ times throughout their life – they simply can't get enough!

While we've come to really like American Ninja Warrior co-host Matt Iseman over the years…we also hate him a little because he's blowing the curve for all of the rest of us…not only did he start out as a licensed medical doctor, then go on to launch a career in comedy, currently hosting season 14 of NBC's American Ninja Warrior…but he recently went to Austria to help host a damn summit on climate change!!! And with American Ninja Warrior still going strong, we talked to Matt this morning to see what's going on in his world!!

In episode 118, we talk about how fascists are recruiting young white men through online fitness communities. Vulnerable young men, who are likely in search of mentors, comradery and self improvement, are being targeted by far right groups and recruited into these hateful movements. All we'll say is, burn your Lonsdale tops immediately. On this week's episode of the Welcome to the Metaverse podcast, I chat to Dan Fill - President of Dark Slope, who are a virtual production and metaverse company, and are reimagining entertainment for this new immersive future that we're heading towards. They're a combination of a games studio, television studio and virtual production house, which means they are right at the forefront of what content is going to look like in the next 5 to 10 years. They've even created a new category of hyper-reality TV, using game engines, VR and haptic feedback suits to produce an ever changing Ninja Warrior style sports entertainment show - where you are essentially competing inside almost a live video game - it's very cool and really opened my mind to what is possible and what is coming. Dan did a brilliant job of explaining what entertainment content of the future looks like, be prepared to have your mind blown and thank you to Dan for coming on the show! TW for this episode: assault, anxiety, and depression. Season 3 of Worthiness Warriors' first guest is,Danielle Gray! And with Danielle, we got deep, fast. In this episode, Danielle shares her story of being assaulted after she, in her words, “let her depression and anxiety go unmanaged.” She gives us all hope, inspiration, and even a good laugh, along with deep, meaningful takeaways for anyone, especially those struggling with depression and anxiety. About Danielle: Danielle is a formerly competitive gymnast who became a personal trainer after leaving her full time desk job to pursue coaching and fitness modeling. What do you get when you cross a bobsled, boxing gloves and a bouquet of flowers? Isabella Rositano, that's what! This girl is a weapon of a human and my latest adopted podcasting bestie. You've likely seen her on SAS Australia, perhaps you even recall her launching across the Ninja Warrior course. Less likely however, you may recall Isabella rocketing down a bobsleigh course (hardly a common Australian pastime) or even competing as a champion canoe-er (what do you even call a person who canoes). These days I'm more than thrilled to talk about Isabella's latest sporting love which is boxing, so it's fair to say we are basically soul sisters now. She sure is someone who's setting the tone for women in sport... I'm more than a little bit inspired myself after this chat.
