Do you ever feel like you don't quite fit into the traditional mold—whether in sports, school, or even life? Maybe you've tried the “standard” path but never felt at home, and deep down you wonder if there's something more—something uniquely yours. What if the obstacles you face aren't there to stop you, but to reveal your true strength? And what would it look like to transform those setbacks into a platform for purpose, impact, and leadership?Today's guest, Karsten Williams, embodies that very journey. From humble beginnings to becoming an 11-time American Ninja Warrior national finalist, Karsten has proven that resilience, creativity, and grit can carry you far beyond conventional boundaries. He turned his passion for movement into not only personal success, but also a mission to inspire others through mentorship, leadership, and community.Karsten Williams is an 11-time American Ninja Warrior national finalist, elite coach, and founder of Ninja Project—a movement platform redefining youth fitness and functional entertainment. With over a decade of experience across 50+ ninja gyms and events, he's on a mission to turn everyday people into champions through movement, mindset, and mentorship. What makes Karsten unique is not just his decorated Ninja Warrior career, but his passion for creating spaces where belonging meets possibility. He's leading a new generation to see obstacles not as limitations, but as opportunities to grow stronger, more confident, and more resilient. His story reminds us that failure isn't the end—it's the very foundation of greatness.Quotes:"Always stay true to you, don't compare yourself, and don't try to do what others can do. They might have a unique skill set that I don't necessarily have.""I want to create a space for those people that feel like they're maybe underserved, can come in and have their own experience, and have someone that can love on them, pour into them, encourage them, and it's a win for everybody.""When you do get to the top or experience that success, it's that much more meaningful and impactful because you know what the bottom feels like."Actionable Takeaways:Turn failure into fuel. Ask yourself: Where have I let a setback define me instead of refine me? Write down one failure you've experienced and list three lessons you gained from it.Run your own race. Don't copy someone else's path. Identify one area of life where you've been comparing yourself to others—then outline one action that reflects your strengths and style instead.Redefine obstacles. Each challenge is an opportunity to grow. This week, reframe a personal or professional obstacle by writing how it could actually serve as preparation for a future win.Create belonging for others. Who in your circle feels “on the outside” or like they don't have a place? Reach out and invite them into an activity, group, or conversation that builds connection.Pursue impact, not just success. Ask: If I keep going the way I am, what legacy will I leave behind? Journal about one way you can shift your daily habits from self-focus to serving others. Conclusion:Karsten's journey reminds us that obstacles aren't roadblocks—they're invitations to grow stronger, wiser, and more resilient. From crashing on his very first Ninja Warrior course to becoming an 11-time national finalist and mentor to thousands, he proves that success is built on perseverance, humility, and the courage to run your own race. His story challenges us to see every setback as a setup for impact—and to pursue a life that inspires others to rise above their own obstacles.

From track and field to parkour, breakdance, swimming, and rope flow, we explore how these disciplines shape skill development and reveal the qualitative aspects of elite sport movement. Tim also shares his journey from traditional sports to discovering the benefits of innovative movement, offering powerful insights on how athletes can unlock agility, strength, and resilience by taking a holistic approach to training. Actionable Takeaways: Use yoga or mindful movement practices as low-intensity ways to stay connected when injured. Pay attention to biomechanics during rehab—it's not just about healing tissue, but about moving better long-term. Reframe injuries as opportunities to explore different forms of movement. 10:43 – Discovering Movement Connections Through Slow Practice Key Idea: Slowing things down can reveal hidden connections between muscles, joints, and fascia. Tim found value in practicing movement slowly before adding intensity. Actionable Takeaways: Strip movements down and slow them until you can feel the sequence. Use slow practice as a diagnostic tool to notice leaks, compensations, or missing links. Build control first, then layer on speed and power. 23:26 – Parkour Training as a Unique Learning Process Key Idea: Parkour introduced Tim to exploration, problem-solving, and adapting movement to different environments. Actionable Takeaways: Use obstacle-based tasks to force creative movement solutions. Train adaptability—don't just repeat drills, but give athletes problems to solve. Embrace exploration: movement learned through play tends to stick. 31:41 – Balancing Intensity, Recovery, and Longevity in Training Key Idea: Tim highlights that chasing intensity every session can shorten careers—longevity requires balance. Actionable Takeaways: Periodize intensity with recovery—don't redline every workout. Prioritize sustainability: ask “Can I do this 10 years from now?” Recovery practices are as important as the training itself. 42:08 – The Value of Gentleness in Building Strength Key Idea: Strength doesn't always come from force—sometimes it's built by gentleness, precision, and subtlety. Actionable Takeaways: Explore lighter, more mindful work instead of always going maximal. Recognize that gentleness can rewire coordination in ways brute strength cannot. Use precise, controlled practice as a pathway to more efficient power later.

In This Episode, We Dive Into: Greg's full American Ninja Warrior experience—from a 4am call-time to national TV stardom.  How a setback (a brutal ankle injury) turned into a setup for his comeback. Greg's recovery story and how he reprogrammed his brain (and body) to overcome fear. “BEDWAS”: The powerful acronym Greg lives by every morning. The difference between retiring and rewiring. In this Show, Greg also drops powerful truths like: “Age isn't just a number. It's experience, wisdom, and an invitation to do MORE.” “Your bank and health account are like the same thing. The more good things you put into them, the more you can take out of them.” “I'm a rookie at 64—and I'm just getting started.” “Don't let someone else define your limits.” This episode is for you if you've ever felt “too old” to start something new, or if you've faced a setback that's begging to be reframed as a setup for something greater. It's for the person who doesn't just want to leave a legacy—but wants to live it out loud, every single day. Defying the Odds — Vance Walker's Back-to-Back Ninja Warrior Victories This week on the Team Never Quit podcast, we welcome American Ninja Warrior legend Vance Walker, the first athlete in the show's history to win back-to-back million-dollar championships. At just 19 years old, Vance has become a beacon of perseverance, grit, and unstoppable belief. Born with spastic diplegia, a form of cerebral palsy that affected his ability to walk, Vance was told he may never walk without braces. But through years of determination and relentless training, he not only walked — he ran, jumped, climbed, and conquered Mount Midoriyama... twice. In this episode, Vance shares His journey from leg braces to Ninja Warrior champion, the mental and physical challenges of competing in two seasons back-to-back, and what it means to represent those born with disabilities on a national stage,  Whether you're chasing a personal dream or overcoming an obstacle of your own, this is an episode that will inspire you to keep climbing. In This Episode You Will Hear: • [My mom] She gave me the mindset I've had ever since then, which is “Whatever it takes.” (5:19) • At 17 months old I was diagnosed with cerebral Palsey and was told I might never be able to walk without braces on my legs. (5:37) • If you don't have hard things, you can't get stronger. (13:26) • I always wanted to be good at something, and there was always something that would keep me from being the best. And when I found Ninja, I was able to make my own scheduled, because Ninja Warrior is not a team sport. (15:39) • I can make my own path in this. I can train any way I want to. If there's an obstacle, there's not [just] one way to do it. (18:59) • Just like in life, you need a mentor. You need somebody who's done things before to be able to see how to do things. (29:39) • When was 12, I won my first national championship. (26:59) • I want to get into speaking and sharing my story because that's such as important part of this. (44:22) • When I was a kid in school, I was always different from the other kids. I never fit in with anybody. The only thing that kept me going was the mindset that my mom gave me. (44:57) • To become the best at something is already such an insane challenge, but I started from below everybody else. (45:30) • Any challenge, any obstacle – Never give up. (47:14) • The show is always the one thing I'm the best at. That's where I'm at home. Ginny Maccoll, 73, has an unusual hobby. She competes in Ninja Warrior competitions. Last year, the Guinness World Book of Records named her the oldest female to compete. Though physically quite active from the time she was born, and a proficient dancer, it wasn't until her daughter became a Ninja competitor that Ginny started believing that she might be able to do that, too. She also competes nationally at the Sr. Olympics swim team. Ginny started dancing in 3rd grade and moved from Tennessee to New York City to embark on a professional career in dance culminating in performing in the hit Broadway Show, Pippin, in 1974.  This led her to roles on TV commercials, having her own radio show and appearing in a film with Diane Keaton. Ginny's view of aging is to keep trying to do more. Keep challenging your body and your brain." You get one obstacle after another and you can't let it surprise you. Send us a textWitness history in the making as the World Strength Games returns to St. George on May 23-24 2025, transforming the Dixie Convention Center into an arena where human potential collides with physical impossibility. Since its humble beginnings in 2017 with just 11 athletes, this event has exploded into an international phenomenon, officially documenting 121 world records and counting. What makes the World Strength Games unique isn't just the superhuman feats of strength—it's the strategic format where athletes must choose their weights wisely, getting just two attempts to etch their names in history. Think of it as high-stakes poker where competitors must decide: play it safe or risk everything for glory. This creates an electric atmosphere as athletes from Australia, Sweden, and across America push the boundaries of human capability. The crowd favorite remains the iconic 402-pound basalt stone carry, modeled after Iceland's famous Husafell Stone but deliberately made more challenging. Last year, spectators erupted as competitors who seemed physically incapable hoisted this massive stone and carried it distances no one thought possible. This year, local hero Miles Kinikini will attempt to shatter the Farmer's Walk world record by carrying a mind-boggling 460 pounds in each hand.Beyond strongman, this evolved fitness expo now features USA Wrestling tournaments, Ninja Warrior courses, CrossFit challenges through the Summit Games, and an NFL-style combine for aspiring athletes. Legendary figures in strength sports will be present, including four-time World's Strongest Man Magnus Ver Magnusson and potentially current reigning World's Strongest Man Tom Stoltman.Perhaps most fascinating is how this event showcases human potential across all demographics. From 73-year-old grandmothers carrying refrigerator-sized weights to discussions on regenerative medicine with stem cell pioneer Dr. Greg Smith, the World Strength Games illustrates that strength isn't just about muscle—it's about pushing limits in every aspect of human performance.Guest Russell Anderson, Founder of the World Strength Games. In this episode of The ManKind Podcast, host Boysen Hodgson sits down with Brandon Clift to unpack five profound lessons he learned from his experience on Australian Ninja Warrior—where he set the record for the fastest elimination in history.Brandon shares how his ego, overconfidence, and underestimation of the challenge ahead led to an unexpected (and humbling) failure. But more importantly, he reveals how this moment reshaped his approach to risk, preparation, and resilience in all areas of life.Key Lessons Discussed:Leave Your Ego at Home – The fine line between confidence and arrogance.Do Not Underestimate the Challenge – How overlooking the present moment led to a misstep.Respect the Course – Why preparation and humility matter in any pursuit.Surrender Expectations & Detach from Outcomes – Embracing the unknown and finding growth in unexpected results.Enjoy the Journey – Finding joy, even in failure, and learning to pivot when things don't go as planned.Through humor, reflection, and raw honesty, Brandon walks us through how these lessons continue to shape his personal and professional life. Whether you've faced setbacks in your career, relationships, or personal goals, this episode is packed with wisdom to help you fail forward and find purpose in the process.Resources & Mentions:
