Talking about others! - Mufti menk light upon light
NEW | Shaytaan's tricks - Path to Repentance - Light Upon Light - Mufti Menk
Dear listeners, we are in sura 24 AlNoor, The light verse 35-38. Q- Who guides you in life? What gives you meaning and purpose in life? Your faith in Allah is your light in life. With it, life makes sense. God guides whoever wills to His light/ knowledge / wisdom/ mercy/ blessings. These verses remind me of the light Duaa The prophet would say on his way to prayers: O Allah, place within my heart light, and upon my tongue light, and within my ears light, and within my eyes light, and place behind me light, and in front of me light, and above me light, and beneath me light. O Allah, bestow upon me light.

NOTE: When we published this episode a few days ago, we were unaware that Jesse had passed away back in December of 2021. We only just learned of this fact today when a listener reached out to inform us. We're saddened by this news, and we apologize for any possible confusion or hurt we may have caused by linking to his Twitter handle, email address, etc. We have removed those items from his bio but left the link to the Light Upon Light website since it contains many of Jesse's writings and information about his life's work. What leads people to violent extremism? Is extremism a legitimate, rational response to trauma, hardship, and powerlessness? Do some holy books make it easier to justify violence than others, or are all violent movements equally capable of extracting justifications from their holy book? To what extent does recruitment to radical movements involve "brainwashing" or overriding people's beliefs versus hooking into, shaping, and strengthening their beliefs? Are cults and radical movements the same thing? What enables people to deradicalize? How can we most effectively interact with radicalized friends or family members?Jesse Morton was once a jihadist propagandist (then known as Younes Abdullah Muhammad) who ran Revolution Muslim, a New York City-based organization active in the 2000s that connected Muslims in the west to al-Qaeda's ideology, creating English language propaganda and collaborating with the most notorious jihadist preachers of that era. He deradicalized in 2011 and has worked since to become a leading commentator, interventionist, and innovator in the prevention and countering of violent extremism, focusing especially on jihadist, far-right, and far-left extremism. Jesse was included in Foreign Policy Magazine's 2017 "Global Thinkers" listing and holds a master's in Middle East studies from Columbia University along with licensure in substance-abuse and mental health counseling. Out of the Ordinary Winter Reflections: Where's Jesus on the days when it seems He has fallen asleep in the storm? Jesus was asleep on the boat because he wasn't afraid of the waves. Let's lean into our dear friendships when it gets hard instead of leaning out. Especially now. Especially after this year. Can you be "prayer in action" in this season for someone? Jesus didn't just talk about rescuing, He did it. Look for the face of God this week. He's there in the ordinary moments and in the faces around you. Today's interview features “Ken,” an incel who wrote into the show after hearing Mark's story on episode 62: Currycels, Ricecels, & Strict Asian Parents. Ken was raised as a Jehovah's Witness, and left the community as an adult, when he put himself through college and then graduate school. Ken has a fulfilling career as a scientist now, but his family of origin led to insecurities, loneliness, and severe trust issues with people in general and women in particular. ——————————————————————— INCEL is created and produced by Naama Kates for Crawlspace Media. This week's main episode features an interview with returning guest, Liam Porter, the YouTube historian who archived the videos from Plymouth shooter's Jake Davison YouTube channel and discussed those with me following the incident. His own YouTube channel includes fantastically smart, informative, and entertaining documentaries about topics that will surely intrigue you all, and we'll be discussing “Munted, Random” a story about #GamerGate. But we just recorded yesterday, and it's a rich episode, so I need a few more days to put it together. Today's episode finally takes on the very complicated case of the mass shooting on December 6th, 1989 at the Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal. It is often considered the first “incel shooting” despite predating the term by 25 years. The perpetrator, Marc Lepine left a manifesto and killed 14 female college students, one of whom was Anne-Marie Edward, the cousin of today's guest, Jean-Marc Dalphond (@JMDalphond). Jean-Marc teaches theatre at a university, and is working on a play based on this event, which he has thought about in harrowing detail every single day for the past three years. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~. Synopsis: We have in our possession a treasure trove unlike no other. The actual words of God bound in a book - The Holy Quran. In this show we shall be exploring and unearthing some of the blessings of this unique book and hopefully giving you all something to ponder over. The first poem is from the other side of the vast Atlantic ocean, words full of devotion, brother Furqan Mehmud from the USA, with his poem titled ‘The Quran'. The second poem, as you will see, comes from a blossoming tree, the poetical jewel, young sister Khoula Saeed with her inspiring poem titled: ‘The Miracle of the Holy Quran'. The third poem comes from the north of England in Durham, brother Alex Borthwick, with his poem titled ‘The Glorious Quran', and this is then followed by a poet from far across the desert springs, from the United Arab Emirates, we bring, with notable words of charm, the acclaimed poet, brother Kamran Khan. The fifth poem has some rather interesting couplets to share, with her poem titled The Word of God, from the splendid sister Mufleha Saleem Ahmad. The sixth poem, comes from London with a south westerly breeze which was inspired by the Holy Quran and is titled ‘Light Upon Light', by the very talented sister Rizwana Aziz. The final poem calls himself a working-class philanthropist, who by profession he is a Software analyst. With his poem titled ‘Turn the Page' we present the wonderful poet Hamaad Ur Rehman. Enjoy! Today's episode is a follow-up to the topic we started discussing last week, that first came my way via a poignant message from a listener named Mark (@us3rn8m3_t8k3n) a self-described currycel, who suggested we further explore the role that childhood abuse, particularly in Asian cultures, might play for incels in the west. Mark agreed to get on a call and discuss these issues himself, and we had one of the most raw, honest, and insightful conversations about this theme which is so ubiquitous in the incelosphere. Reminder: a currycel is an incel of South Asian decent, while a ricecel is one of East Asian descent. As a reminder, these terms aren't intended to be, nor considered offensive, just playfully descriptive. Trigger Warning: this episode includes frank discussion of child abuse and domestic violence. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's finally here, boyos. Today's guest is a 23 year-old incel from New Zealand, who reached out a couple months back with a YouTube link to a beautiful film he made about his life as an incel, which he called “A Shallow Perception of Me.” The film is about a lonely young man who sinks deeper into depression as he indulges his fixation with a young Russian woman who became something of an unwilling porn star after her nudes were leaked. The woman, Alina, is a real person, by the way. It is composed of stark shots of David (@goooply), the filmmaker, listlessly inhabiting his bedroom, eating, drinking, smoking, sleeping, and consuming content, along with the content he consumes. And the film is really, really good. We had a great chat about inceldom, and internet addiction, and content creation and the life of an artist. It was a blast, and incredibly unexpected. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Check out David's film on YouTube, you will not regret it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1k98QjeK0s ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's finally here, boyos. Last week's mass shooting in Plymouth is still reverberating, and the latest headlines suggest that police are revisiting their decision to rule out terrorism... so to help us sort through the debris, is one of our favorite guests here at Incel: friend of the pod, Phil Gurski (@borealissaves). For new listeners, Phil spent over 30 years as a strategic intelligence analyst specialising in radicalization, and homegrown Islamist extremism with CSIS, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), and now, he has a podcast, like the rest of us! It's called “Canadian Intelligence, Eh?” and today's episode is a crossover, intended to get into the case a bit more and talk about some of the implications of labeling it, or not labeling it an “incel shooting.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Check out Phil's spectacular and informative pod about all things NatSec: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/canadian-intelligence-eh/id1455756173 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's finally here, boyos. Last Thursday, on August 12th, 22-year-old Jake Davison went on a shooting spree in Plymouth, England, killing his mother and four other victims before turning the gun on himself. One of the victims was a three year old girl. It was the first mass shooting in Britain in over ten years, and the shooter was connected to the incel community. I spent the weekend completely immersed in this case, and wrote a lengthy analysis about it for UnHerd, which you can read at: https://unherd.com/2021/08/what-the-media-gets-wrong-about-incels/ Liam Porter (@retinend) is a documentary filmmaker whose films are about YouTube, and fringe internet subcultures, which means we have a lot of shared interests, and by some fantastic dumb luck, we started talking just a couple of weeks ago... Ryan Lo'Ree (@ryanl4change) is a Michigan-based political activist and community organizer, who was once Vice President of the white supremacist gang, the Rollingwood Skins. His involvement with the group led to his incarceration, followed by a long period of introspection, transformation, and then healing. Ryan began his activism in 2013 by opening a Mixed Martial Arts studio for troubled youth in his hometown of Flint, and has gone onto work in to partner with local government offices and organizations, including, most recently, Light Upon Light. Welcome back, after several months of radio silence for you as listeners, and a lot of very loud and dissonant noise for us all as citizens. Polarization is at an all-time high, so we're hitting the reset button here at Escape Hate. The podcast will run coincident to additional efforts at Light Upon Light to address the polarization, dehumanization, and hate plaguing our nation, by assembling the right voices to lead the conversation. The next series of episodes will feature founder, Jesse Morton in conversations with five individuals working on the front lines to bring us all some wisdom and perspective during these turbulent times. First up is Eldra Jackson III, co-executive director of Inside Circle, an organization that works with inmates and ex-convicts to provide opportunities for healing and transformation. He first encountered the organization while serving 24 years of a life sentence in a California State Penitentiary, and is proof of the power of their approach. Today, as protestors gather, demanding justice for George Floyd, we must acknowledge the hard truth that our nation is in crisis. Though it feels as though our very democracy is under attack, we must appreciate the very American tradition of organizing in the name of justice. In episode 2, Naama sits down with Daryl Davis, a blues musician, author, and humanitarian, and Jeff Schoep, the former leader of the National Socialist Movement, to discuss the story of their unlikely friendship and address issues of racial animosity and hatred in America. Davis's singular efforts to improve race relations have been covered by NPR, the Washington Post, and CNN. He is also the subject of 2016 independent documentary entitled, "Accidental Courtesy: Daryl Davis, Race & America." Schoep served as commander of the NSM, "America's largest neo-Nazi organization," for over 20 years before stepping down and publicly denouncing the movement in March of 2019. Today, he shares his story in an effort to combat hate and extremism. —————————————————————————— Esc-Hate is hosted and produced by Naama Kates with Light Upon Light for Crawlspace Media. —————————————————————————— Theme music for Esc-Hate is composed by Cyrus Melchor. —————————————————————————— Learn more about this organization and how to get involved by visiting www.LightUponLight.online. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
