In this episode, we sit down with Altamush Saeed, an interspecies justice lawyer, educator, and nonprofit leader who is reshaping how Pakistan thinks about animals, people, and the environment. From being rescued by a cat named Mau, to leading community dog feeding campaigns during COVID, to organising large-scale rescues during Pakistan's 2022 floods, Altamush's story shows how deeply human and animal lives are intertwined in times of crisis. He reflects on how trauma, climate change, and compassion intersect, and why he believes food systems, human rights, and animal rights must be understood together. Drawing on his faith, Altamush explains why factory farming is impermissible under Islamic principles of mercy and stewardship, and shares how training Imams to deliver Friday sermons on animals and the environment is sparking grassroots change across communities.Along the way, he discusses founding Pakistan's first disaster-zone farm animal shelter, creating the country's first Animal Law course, and building a broader vision of interspecies justice that moves beyond cats and dogs to include all beings. This is a powerful conversation about resilience, responsibility, and reimagining justice for a more compassionate future. Please subscribe to get notified about our next podcast!Follow us on X: @TheAnthrozoopodFollow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/anthrozoopod/ Follow us on TikTok @anthrozoology_To access audio versions please our official Website: https://anthrozoopod.wixsite.com/anthrozoopod Podlet GuestName: Altamush Saeed LLMemail: earcpak@gmail.comchaltamushsaeed@gmail.comaltamush@charitydoings.orgPodCrew Dr. Kris Hill PhD Candidate, University of Exetertinehill@gmail.com https://katzenlife.wordpress.com/ Dr. Michelle Szydlowskimichelle@szyd.mewww.internationalelephants.org@intl_elephants Sarah Oxley Heaney PhD Candidate, University of Exeterkissingsharks@gmail.comwww.kissingsharks.com/

Faisal Saeed Al Mutar joins The Winston Marshall Show for a powerful conversation on freedom, reform, and the unfinished business of the Middle East. Faisal is an Iraqi refugee who lived through the chaos of Saddam's fall and the U.S. invasion. He recounts his journey from Baghdad to America, and how those experiences shaped his mission to promote secularism, literacy, and critical thinking in the Arab world. He exposes how extremism thrives on ignorance, and why authoritarian regimes—from Iraq to Qatar—use culture, religion, and oil wealth to maintain power. They discuss the failures of U.S. foreign policy, Trump's controversial deals with Gulf states, and the ongoing struggle for genuine reform in a region caught between dictatorship and jihadism. Faisal argues that real change must come from empowering young people with ideas, not weapons. All this—the Iraq War, Qatar's influence, the dangers of authoritarianism, and one man's fight to build a freer Middle East…-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------To see more exclusive content and interviews consider subscribing to my substack here: https://www.winstonmarshall.co.uk/-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA:Substack: https://www.winstonmarshall.co.uk/X: https://twitter.com/mrwinmarshallInsta: https://www.instagram.com/winstonmarshallLinktree: https://linktr.ee/winstonmarshall----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Chapters 00:00 Introduction 04:52 Christopher Hitchens' Influence and the Iraq War17:23 Obama's Foreign Policy and Its Impact on Iraq 28:22 Trump's Foreign Policy and Qatar's Role45:51 Qatar's Influence on American Institutions 52:15 Syria and the Persecution of Minorities1:05:51 Recognition of Palestine as a State 1:29:23 Conclusion and Final Thoughts Hosted on Acast.
