I’m Theresa Melito-Conners a PhD level self care expert in the greater Boston area with a passion for helping others recognize the importance of caring for themselves. Today’s episode is a conversation with my friend, Sherry Dunwell Sheree is an award-winning vocalist originally from Lynn Massachusetts, after earning a BFA in opera performance from Carnegie Mellon university, she returned to new England where she has been performing as a professional vocalist ever since. In 2015, she was named grand champion of WC VBS community auditions hosted by Billy Costa. In 2016, she played a featured singing role in the film, the comedian starring Robert DeNiro, Danny DeVito, and Patti LuPone. I first met Sheree many years ago as we would frequent the same fitness classes. And if you happen to listen to the episode where I interviewed my friend Carina bell tree, and we chatted about our friend group, the Carina dubbed the investments. Speaker 0 00:01:35 Well, Sherry is a part of that group as well. She is smart, friendly, and talented. I remember seeing a lot of myself and Sherry when we first met. And although we have had different lived experiences, there’s a lot of common ground in our lives and shared interests. Later, we started taking ballroom dancing lessons at a local studio and ended up performing together. And it was a blast. Sherry is one of those friends that no matter how much time has passed, we jumped right back into our friendship seamlessly. I am delighted to have her here with us today and talk about self care. Speaker 0 00:02:19 So thanks so much for joining us Sheree today here on the Dr. MC self care cabaret podcast. Speaker 2 00:02:26 I’m so excited. Thanks so Speaker 3 00:02:28 Much for having me. I’m really excited to be here. Speaker 0 00:02:31 Yeah. I’m excited to ask you these questions. We’ve got a handful of questions I came up with. We’re going to cover a variety of topics, but first and foremost, as a performer vocalist dancer, and more, how do you like to practice self-care? Speaker 3 00:02:47 So, you know, I think my answer to that has evolved over t
In this episode which is a throwback episode recorded back in August 2020 where I went down memory lane with one of my best friends from Lynn Massachusetts. Vinny Madden grew up as an Italian kid raised by a black stepmother & Italian father then going to lie with his biological mother is a crazy story. A lot of jokes and a lot of reminiscing on the 80s and a lot of comparisons of living and growing up in Lynn Massachusetts to then growing up in Harrisburg Pennsylvania. Plenty of laughs as anyone should have when they catch up with their childhood friend. ENJOY --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Estee Nack talks Tragic Allies, Westside Gunn relationship, creating music, Lynn Massachusetts
In today's episode I am joined by the usual suspects ( Cap, DJ-Incrediboi, and Abdullah) to discuss a recent comment that legendary MC KRS-1 made in regards to doing a versus against the one and only self-proclaimed G.O.A.T. LL cool J. We have an impromptu versus battle between the two and the outcome didn't go exactly in the way you would think. Of course there's probably some East Coast biased and some Bronx bias being that three out of the five people in this debate are from the Bronx, but overall it was a good and hilarious debate. We were also joined by fellow Lynn Massachusetts producer, sneakerhead, and father @Explizit_1. Great hip-hop conversations with people who have love for the culture. Enjoy. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Shelter and Solidarity: A Deep Dive with Artists and Activists
Shelter & Solidarity show 4, a two-part episode, addresses higher education and also the organizing for May Day in a time of global pandemic and economic depression. In the first part, Joe Ramsey interviews Anna Kornbluh, Ben Manski, Barbara Madeloni, and Chris Newfield. Together they address the paradoxes of increased militancy and reduced organizational capacity. Framing the conversation is the notion of the “shock doctrine.” In this context, they provide insights into the formation of demands and its relationship to organizing. These are treated in a nuanced way and reflect different emphases and starting points for organizers. Their dialogue segues seamlessly into a broader conversation in the second part, “Organizing for May Day,” in which they are joined by Adam Kaszynski and Jonathan Feinberg. In discussing their organizing, Kaszynski and Feinberg, ground preparations for May Day in terms of the shop floor experiences of IUE-CWA Local 201 and in the immigrant and working-class communities of Lynn Massachusetts.
In today's episode I have a conversation with an upcoming MC from my hometown of Lynn Massachusetts. He goes by the name of C.Wells. We discussed his hip-hop influences, top five as well as the Massachusetts hip-hop scene. Also the difference is of growing up in Lynn in the 80s versus The late 90s. I hope you enjoy this episode amongst all this madness. Also support your local emcees. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

He was more than the brewery facilities manager at Jack’s Abby; he was the keystone that held these walls together, an educator that never stopped sharing his knowledge and passion, and a family man that was loved by all, not just those related by blood. Herb leaves behind a wife and four children.Since Herb’s passing we’ve seen countless posts honoring him and thanking him for his contributions to our beloved industry.Despite never having the pleasure of meeting Herb directly, this loss hit us hard, we kept thinking how can we help? Well we found out earlier in the week that Jack’s Abby is going to be brewing a beer in commemoration of Herb. At the request of the family, Jack’s Abby will be releasing a limited edition lager, In Herb We Trust. All proceeds will be going directly to supporting the Lindtveit family. Here’s the website to buy the beer: https://shop.jacksabby.com/collections/hats/products/in-herb-we-trust-memorial-beerJack’s Abby is throwing a Memorial Celebration on April 14th from 4pm-8pm at Springdale, where folks can pick up the beer that they pre-ordered:https://www.facebook.com/events/1873956236047471/The family has also set up a go fund me for additional support https://ca.gofundme.com/6x187vs.Our Sincerest Condolences Go out to the Lindtveit Family and in Herb We Trust!Music: K. Seventh Day, Saturday March 26th I drive from Boston to Lynn, Massachusetts, only about 25 minutes north by car. Not long after Frederick Douglass began his public speaking career, he and his family moved here to Lynn from New Bedford. They lived here from the fall of 1841 through about November 1847. Well, actually, for much of that time, it was mostly Anna and the kids who lived here. First, Douglass was often on tour as a speaker, which took him away from home for long stretches. Secondly, he was away on a tour of the British Isles from 1845-1847, which is why many sources say Douglass himself only lived here until 1845. He returned only briefly to Lynn before moving himself and his family to Rochester near the end of 1847. His 'industrious and neat companion' Anna took care of the household while he was away, and often took in piecework from Lynn's thriving shoemaking industry to make sure the kids were always cared for and the bills paid on time. Douglass wrote his Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave here in Lynn, and it was published by the Boston Anti-Slavery Society on May 28th, 1845....
