It's DILLA TIME This month's special is about Jay Dee aka J Dilla, a Detroit hip-hop producer's whose work is so prolific and influential his MPC sampler is in the Smithsonian. Dilla worked with hip-hop and R&B greats - Q-Tip, A Tribe Called Quest, Busta Rhymes, The Roots, The Pharcyde, D'Angelo, Common, Madlib and made his own signature rhythm that others copied - he used a sampler like no one had before. Through his unique methods of playing with layered timing, rhythmic expectation, polyrhythm, samples stretching and feel and his ability to bend time-signatures to his will, Dilla changed how music moves, and made Dilla Time (a term coined in the 2022 book of the same name by Dan Charnas). We explore his production work, solo music and the legacy of his final album from 2006, released three days before he died - Donuts - a sample psychedelic beat tape of melancholic beauty and a magic trick of sampling that serves as a towering and influential creative statement. The accompanying Dilla playlist. * Support Nialler9 on Patreon, get event discounts, playlists, ad-free episodes and join our Discord community Listen on Apple | Android | Patreon | Pocketcasts | CastBox | Stitcher | Spotify | RSS Feed | Pod.Link

Brrr... it's time for everyone's favorite season to have its day in court on the Good Music Show. Today we discuss two albums that make us think of winter. We start with Danny's pick which continues his trend of finding a song that deals with a season, and making the case why the album its on also represents that season. When he heard Song for a Winter's Night by Gordon Lightfoot - a legendary folk singer-songwriter from Canada - he thought it was the perfect non-Christmas song. This album is half new recordings of Gordon's catalog and half compilation of his Warner hits. Though a variety of seasons and weather are represented here, the warmness of both Gord's voice and the production by Lenny Waronker are a perfect sonic stand-in for a crackling fire for those cold, lonely winter months (or in Danny's case, days)Then we talk about an album that to Julius represents the sadness and introspection often brought on by winter. "The Velvet Rope" is a peak in a run of excellent albums by Janet Jackson, who unfortunately doesn't get talked about enough in today's pop ecosystem. We compare this album to current trends in pop, as well as praise the impeccable production by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Janet's experience at the time of making this album results in many songs dealing with extreme emotions and allows for the listener to experience validation and catharsis through the energetic and crisp production. Now is the time to appreciate what Janet accomplished, despite anything that may have overshadowed her art.Songs featured in this episode:Canadian Railroad Trilogy (from "The Way I Feel" and "Gord's Gold")SundownOld Dan's RecordsGot 'Til It's GoneGot 'TIl It's Gone (Ummah Jay Dee's Revenge Mix)Go DeepMy NeedSend us a text message! You can follow us here: Instagram Twitter Tiktok Send us a message, we'd love to hear from you!

Reggae / Dub from Nat Birchall, Joe Armon-Jones feat Liam Bailey, Mortimer, Kabaka Pyramid & Lila Iké. Plus plenty more music treats.

According to Ben Aussenberg, a family law attorney with extensive experience in divorce and asset division, specificity is key. These strategies, paired with proactive communication and professional guidance, are essential for navigating the intersection of real estate and family law. In this episode of The Same Day Podcast, host Yoni Schmidt sits down with Ben Aussenberg, Partner at Aycock Aussenberg, to discuss how to safeguard property investments during a divorce. Welcome back to another episode of Nattering With E. Today, Neil Jordan of @TheFalse9 returns to the Nattering Studios to discuss arguably the greatest Rap album in history, Illmatic by Nas. Released in 1994, Illmatic was the first album to have an All-Star production team ranging from Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest, Large Professor, DJ Premier, and more heavyweights in the Rap community of the time. While breaking down the podcast, we also go on a few tangents about sports, some other albums fans should know about, and how the lyrics within each song on the album still apply to life today. Some say this is Nas's best album ever and he's been chasing that high ever since. Send us a textMeet Q-Tip and Wade from Migra Ammunitions as they share a thrilling tale of transforming an audacious idea into a game-changing product for duck hunting enthusiasts. Wade and Q-Tip dive into the groundbreaking advantages of Migra's stack shell, revealing how inspiration from NASCAR drafting catapulted their technology to new heights. There's a hint of big news coming from Migra in November, but not before we hear about Darryl's wild hunting adventure featuring a trailer blowout that adds a real-time twist to the conversation.Listeners are treated to the inspiring story of two friends who turned skepticism into a successful business with their patented stack load technology. Originally greeted with doubt, their innovative approach has redefined waterfowl hunting by enhancing shot efficiency and shortening the shot string. Their journey is a testament to the power of taking risks and believing in innovation, as one of them even sold his existing business to join this burgeoning venture. Amidst humor and camaraderie, the importance of educating others about this revolutionary product shines through. The episode doesn't stop with innovation; it delves into the importance of face-to-face marketing and quality control in the ammunition industry. We explore strategies that set companies apart, highlighting how direct customer interaction and providing free samples build brand loyalty. The narrative also touches on stress management and scaling up the business, including preparations for new product releases and upcoming hunts. From the excitement of new hunting techniques using "nut grub" to the finer details of shotgun shell production, this episode offers a robust exploration of what makes Migra Ammunitions unique and effective.GUEST WEBSITE: https://migraammunitions.comOUR WEBSITE/OTC MERCH: https://offtheclockwithbscott.comHAVOC GEAR SHOP: https://havocnation.comHAVOC BOATS WEBSITE: https://havocboats.comHAVOC DEALERS: https://havocboats.com/dealers/SOCIAL LINKSTruth Social: https://truthsocial.com/@OffTheClockwithBScottFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/people/Off-The-Clock-With-B-Scott/61557737220814/Twitter (X): https://twitter.com/OTCwithBScottInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/offtheclockwithbscott/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwu6_wWcXDoBzhpHv4YgZGQRumble: https://rumble.com/c/c-5644782Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2g76hRDp9d609LETevSH2U?si=0ba23ae282c94e88&nd=1&dlsi=d9f84d7699b84724Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/off-the-clock-with-b-scott/id1734265760

On this flashback of Take It Personal Radio, we're hitting you with a remastered version of episode 50, our Hieroglyphics Tribute. This was a mammoth one. We've got special guests Slug, Murs, Apathy, J-Zone, The Grouch & Breakbeat Lou stopping by. We interview Del, Domino, Casual & Tajai and they've got stories for days! Del talks about doing shrooms with Q-Tip to Casual freestyling with Pharoahe Monch at the Gavin. We touch on Casual vs. Saafir and the impact it had on battle rap. We unfortunately find out Ice Cube wasn't a fan of Gang Starr and thought Kool Keith was too weird. Del explains what it was like not only being cousins with Ice Cube, but their musical similarities and his involvement earlier on in his career. We learn about Del's feelings towards the Gorillaz, while Domino breaks down just about every Hiero collaboration imaginable. We talk I Wish My Brother George Was Here, '93 Til Infinity, No Need For Alarm, Fear Itself, Like It Should Be and No Man's Land. We discuss their rap dominance prior to being dropped by the label. Tajai's breaks down his feelings towards the group's sophomore album and the importance of each album sounding different. This episode can be a slow burn or a fast one, but we all know Hiero is til infinity! www.takeitpersonalradio.com www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal
Here we go, yo! It's been a while since this podcast has covered either a hip-hop album or a jazz album — so this week, we're doing both at once! A Tribe Called Quest formed in the late ‘80s in the New York City neighborhood of St. Albans, Queens, which was home to some of the giants of jazz, blues, and funk, and was a hotbed of musical activity in the years when hip-hop was simmering into existence. On Tribe's 1991 album The Low End Theory, members Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, and Ali Shaheed Muhammed pay tribute to this rich musical legacy with an album that charted a new path for hip-hop by exploring its roots in bebop, hard bop, post-bop, all the other bops, and more. This album isn't just a classic – it's one of the sacred texts of the hip-hop genre, and it helped Rich get into jazz after years of failed attempts. So if you're a jazz aficionado who's on the fence about hip-hop, or vice versa, we invite you to crank up the bass and check the (discord and) rhime with us. Just watch out for the dungeon dragon!Cohosts: Rich Bunnell, Mike DeFabio, Phil MaddoxComplete show notes: https://discordpod.com/listen/149-a-tribe-called-quest-the-low-end-theory-1991Discord & Rhyme's merch store: http://tee.pub/lic/discordpodSupport the podcast! https://www.patreon.com/discordpod

Cole and if we will end up with a Drake vs. Cole battle one day, the announcement of Kendrick Lamar to be the Super Bowl halftime show and if it should've been Lil Wayne instead and so much more!
LL Cool J joins Ebro, Laura, and Rosenberg on HOT 97 about the release of his new album and it's features like Saweetie and Eminem. LL talks about the Drake comparisons, as well as the Drake & Kendrick beef - plus the state of hip-hop! On this flashback of Take It Personal Radio, we're hitting you with our DJ Premier interview. We had Preemo on the show early on when we did our Prodigy tribute, but he returned to the show to discuss the latest Gang Starr album. We talk plenty about Guru, their relationship, the misunderstandings and the family bond. We get into the collabos with Nas, Pete Rock, De La Soul, Q-Tip, Bun B and K-Rino. We discuss the artists featured on One of The Best Yet, as well as those who weren't on the album but felt they should be. There was nothing off-limits and DJ Premier opened about Solar like we've never heard before. Of course, we had to have a little fun, so, we made Preem choose his best work outta Livin' Proof, The Sun Rises In The East or Hard To Earn. This was a great discussion with the GOAT. www.takeitpersonalradio.com Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/TakeItPersonal
RIP Sergio Mendes. Thank you so. So MUCH for the music. Godspeed, maestro Sergio. You'll always be in my heart. ❤️

Kamala Harris has taken the political world by storm, Biden's been sent home, and Trump thinks it's 2016. We discuss the perputually morphing presidential race MMSN style. The Olympics set the world on fire, and MMSN had a box of popcorn and a front-row seat. We share our thoughts. Legends LL Cool J and Q-Tip, Common and Pete Rock, Rakim, and even Ghostface have all produced or dropped their own albums this year. Does hip-hop need an adult contemporary category, or should age ever matter in rap music? We unpack growing old in hip hop.

T3 and Young RJ of Slum Village join us this week to talk about their new album F.U.N, their extensive history, their Detroit MC Mount Rushmore, and much more. Along the way we dive into the mythology of them rhyming to a click track early in their career, the musical fullness of the new record, and modern day roller skating jams. In the banter segments, we talk about the new LL Cool J song produced by Q-Tip, which winds into a long digression about Tip's musical legacy and who may be hip-hop's version of Stevie Wonder, should such such a thing exist. We also get into the ideal grown man short length, beach activities, and the first of what is sure to be many breakdancing competitions at the Olympics. QLS gets in the weeds with Mr. Walt and Evil Dee of Da Beatminerz. This free-flowing discussion traces the origins of a very gritty sound and frequency of 1990s Rap production. The two brothers are not above clowing one another as they recall working on Black Moon's classic debut Enta Da Stage, going crate-digging with Q-Tip, and helping to make D&D Studios a true enclave of hardcre Hip Hop. True to Da Beatminerz' name and sound, this episode digs deep.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
