Pastor Christina continued our Self-Inflicted series and spoke on the topic of addiction. No matter where you find yourself as it pertains to addiction, we can find freedom as we take the courageous steps forward to acknowledge and become aware of where we currently are. What started as a longing for pleasure can easily turn into a coping mechanism for pain. There are two types of addictions: behavioral addiction and substance addiction. Whether it's behavioral or substance, addiction can cause us to go on a search to numb the pain and discomfort of our lives rather than searching for what can fill the void that only Jesus can fill. Certain life-altering events can lead us to ease the pain. There are three categories of people as it pertains to addiction: • They are in bondage but don't know it. • They are in bondage and know it. • They are in bondage and want to be free but feel paralyzed in the healing process. We have a choice to make. Do we seek God and professional help? Or do we run to numb the pain? We cannot heal if we conceal. A powerful and strategic process to help us overcome and move forward in our healing is to confess, respond, expect, and declare. Jesus came to set the captives free! We can all find freedom as we seek God and seek professional help! Now is the time to stop allowing our past to dictate our present. What's on the other side of freedom is a life of healing and redemption. Main Point- You are not to deny the faith but rather contend earnestly for the faith because Christ is your Lord, he preserves you. --1- A timely letter to you from Jude, the brother of Christ v1a-2- Remember your status as one called by God, therefore you are loved by God and preserved by Jesus Christ v1b-2-3- You are to earnestly contend for the faith v3-4- Beware false teachers who change the gospel and so deny Christ as Lord v4

Main Point: You can’t fix your spiritual blindness anymore than someone can fix their physical blindness. When, in faith, you call out to Jesus for mercy, giving yourself up to him to save you—sin and all—it is that kind of simple faith that saves you.

Main Point- You are not to shrink back but step up and serve God having faith in the hand of God. -1. You are to seize the opportunity that God gives you v1-3-2. You are to show respect to others so they are receptive to you v4-5-3. You are to remember God can give you more than you can imagine. V7-9-4. You need to face your problems v9-16-5. You are to inspire others to have faith in God v17-18-6. You are to be prepared to face the threat of opposition, knowing God will prosper you. V10, 19-20

Main Point- You must recognize your oneness in Christ with each other - the love that enables you to be one with Christ must also be exhibited to each other to maintain unity. -1. The cost involved does not excuse you from seeking unity in the church-2. In seeking reconciliation in the church, you are one with the offended party v1-7-3. In seeking reconciliation in the church, you are one with the guilty party v10-16-4. Demonstrate a Christ like mediation when divisions occur v17-22-5. This reconciled unity enables the sharing of your faith in this world v6

Main Point- You have a new identity in Christ so seek to live a heavenly life now even as you remain on earth. --1. Remember you are raised with Christ so seek him with all your heart v1--2. Set your mind not on earthly things but on the eternal v2--3. Your life is hidden in Christ but it will be revealed when Christ returns v3-4--4. Put to death idolatry which God hates v5-7--5. Your words are to be like that of Christ v8-10--6. You are joined to Christ and you are joined to each other in Christ v11

Main Point- You have all you need in Christ. Do not be put off by shadows and experiences that can so easily deceive and damage your walk with Christ. --1. Can you identify shadows that you are tempted to follow- V16-17-2. Can you identify experiences that you are tempted to follow- V18-19-3. You have security in your connection with Christ v19-4. In your freedom don't subject yourself to regulations which have no value v20-23-5. You are joined to Jesus in his death v20

Main Point- You are not self-sufficient - often you find this out the hard way. God provides for you, he delivers you and he even warns you of the dangers of idolatry all because you are in Christ--1. A new king in Israel but he repeats the same mistakes and you likewise are in danger of repeating the same mistakes v1-3-2. You can think you are invincible like Jehoram but find out you are absolutely weak v4-10-3. Because you are in Christ like Jehoshaphat, you are to call out to God in your trouble v11-14-4. God promises you provision but more than that deliverance from your enemies v15-25-5. God helps you see the dangerous end result of idolatry v26-27

Main Point- You are to see God as both gracious and just and this will be evident in how you respond to God and his word. -1. Your natural condition is being under God's curse. -2. No one is beyond salvation-3. You are not to mock God-4. If you reject God you remain under the curse of God eternally-5.
