LESSON 122Forgiveness Offers Everything I Want. What could you want forgiveness cannot give? Do you want peace? Forgiveness offers it. Do you want happiness, a quiet mind, a certainty of purpose, and a sense of worth and beauty that transcends the world? Do you want care and safety, and the warmth of sure protection always? Do you want a quietness that cannot be disturbed, a gentleness that never can be hurt, a deep, abiding comfort, and a rest so perfect it can never be upset? All this forgiveness offers you, and more. It sparkles on your eyes as you awake, and gives you joy with which to meet the day. It soothes your forehead while you sleep, and rests upon your eyelids so you see no dreams of fear and evil, malice and attack. And when you wake again, it offers you another day of happiness and peace. All this forgiveness offers you, and more.Forgiveness lets the veil be lifted up that hides the face of Christ from those who look with unforgiving eyes upon the world. It lets you recognize the Son of God, and clears your memory of all dead thoughts so that remembrance of your Father can arise across the threshold of your mind. What would you want forgiveness cannot give? What gifts but these are worthy to be sought? What fancied value, trivial effect or transient promise, never to be kept, can hold more hope than what forgiveness brings? Why would you seek an answer other than the answer that will answer everything? Here is the perfect answer, given to imperfect questions, meaningless requests, halfhearted willingness to hear, and less than halfway diligence and partial trust. Here is the answer! Seek for it no more. You will not find another one instead.God's plan for your salvation cannot change, nor can it fail. Be thankful it remains exactly as He planned it. Changelessly it stands before you like an open door, with warmth and welcome calling from beyond the doorway, bidding you to enter in and make yourself at home, where you belong. Here is the answer! Would you stand outside while all of Heaven waits for you within? Forgive and be forgiven. As you give you will receive. There is no plan but this for the salvation of the Son of God. Let us today rejoice that this is so, for here we have an answer, clear and plain, beyond deceit in its simplicity. All the complexities the world has spun of fragile cobwebs disappear before the power and the majesty of this extremely simple statement of the truth. Here is the answer! Do not turn away in aimless wandering again. Accept salvation now. It is the gift of God, and not the world. The world can give no gifts of any value to a mind that has received what God has given as its own. God wills salvation be received today, and that the intricacies of your dreams no longer hide their nothingness from you.Open your eyes today and look upon a happy world of safety and of peace. Forgiveness is the means by which it comes to take the place of hell. In quietness it rises up to greet your open eyes, and fill your heart with deep tranquility as ancient truths, forever newly born, arise in your awareness. What you will remember then can never be described. Yet your forgiveness offers it to you.Remembering the gifts forgiveness gives, we undertake our practicing today with hope and faith that this will be the day salvation will be ours. Earnestly and gladly will we seek for it today, aware we hold the key within our hands, accepting Heaven's answer to the hell we made, but where we would remain no more.Morning and evening do we gladly give a quarter of an hour to the search in which the end of hell is guaranteed. Begin in hopefulness, for we have reached the turning point at which the road becomes far easier. And now the way is short that yet we travel. We are close indeed to the appointed ending of the dream.Sink into happiness as you begin these practice periods, for they hold out the sure rewards of questions answered and what your acceptance of the answer brings. Today it will be given you to feel the peace forgiveness offers, and the joy the lifting of the veil holds out to you. Before the light you will receive today the world will fade until it disappears, and you will see another world arise you have no words to picture. Now we walk directly into light, and we receive the gifts that have been held in store for us since time began, kept waiting for today.Forgiveness offers everything you want. Today all things you want are given you. Let not your gifts recede throughout the day, as you return again to meet a world of shifting change and bleak appearances. Retain your gifts in clear awareness as you see the changeless in the heart of change; the light of truth behind appearances.Be tempted not to let your gifts slip by and drift into forgetfulness, but hold them firmly in your mind by your attempts to think of them at least a minute as each quarter of an hour passes by. Remind yourself how precious are these gifts with this reminder, which has power to hold your gifts in your awareness through the day:Forgiveness offers everything I want.Today I have accepted this as true.Today I have received the gifts of God.- Jesus Christ in ACIM

In this message, Pastor Byron challenges believers to stand firm in the true faith delivered once to the saints, as warned in Jude 1:1–5. False teachers have crept into churches, twisting grace and denying Christ, but God's people are called to earnestly contend for biblical truth. Pastor Chesney explains why Northside Baptist Church stands on the historic fundamentals of the faith and the Baptist distinctives that align with Christ's original teaching. In a world full of pretenders, we must be contenders—for the sake of our families, our churches, and our testimony for Christ.

FAITH #2 (Everyone needs a FAITH-Lift.) We trust God that with His Sword He will cut and do surgery on us – to give us a faith-lift – to remove that which is old and not so pretty anymore. Our key scripture Hebrews 11:6 - “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 11:3 (NIV) – By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what is visible. 1 Peter 1:3-8 - 3“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, Oswald Chambers wrote in “My utmost for His Highest”: Before I can say “I saw the Lord” there must be something in my character that conforms to the likeness of God. What we need is God's surgical procedure – His use of external circumstance to bring about internal purification. Our Faith can re-write our future (allow Him to give you a Faith-lift) Regret looks back – past possessed. Worry looks around – seed among the thorns, Chokes your Faith. FAITH looks UP. Here's the promise – plus side of: Hebrews 11:6a – with faith we can please God (WHY) Hebrews 11:6b – He is a rewarder of those who *earnestly and *diligently seek Him. * Earnestly = showing intense feeling *Diligently = hard-working, showing effort Prophetic word God is calling for “Order in my house Hebrews 6:11-12 (Amp). The Challenge “But we do [strongly and earnestly] desire for each of you to show the same diligence and sincerity [all the way through] in realizing and enjoying the full assurance and development of [your] hope until the end, 12 In order that you may not grow disinterested and become [spiritual] sluggards, but imitators, behaving as do those who through faith ([b]by their leaning of the entire personality on God in Christ in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness) and by practice of patient endurance and waiting are [now] inheriting the promises. You must first be a believer if you want to be an achiever. Without a “Faith”- driven life you will become disinterested, and a spiritual *sluggard. *sluggard = lazy person “Faith” is action – never a “passive” [not active] attitude. “Faith” is not a pill you take, but a muscle you use. You see – faith is when your hands, your heart and feet keep on working, when your head and others say it can't be done, that the situation has become too BIG for me to handle. The ones who get anything significant of eternal value done for God are: Faith-filled, Faith-focused, Real faith will refuse to see anything that is contrary (opposite) to the Bible. It doesn't look at circumstances or conditions, but it looks at the promises. We must be moved by the “Word of God” not our feelings. 2 Corinthians 5:7 – We walk by faith and NOT by feelings Smith Wigglesworth said: “I'm not moved by what I feel. I'm not moved by what I see. I am only moved by what I believe.” You must remember, when Adam and Eve fell, their emotions fell too. Romans 14:23b – whatsoever is not of faith is sin. Ever since that day, man kinds' of emotions have been: Inconsistent, Misleading, and Often plain WRONG Do you know what I'm talking about? One minute you'll feel happy. The next minute sad. One minute calm. The next you're steaming angry. One minute radically saved – the next not sure if you are a Christian. Imagine a world in which all of our decisions were based on our feelings. Life run on emotions would be chaos!! That's why we don't feel the Holy Spirit – we sense Him. The difference between a born-again child of God and an unsaved person is - the One lives by faith, while the world runs on emotion. That's what they should be seeing in US - active faith. The good news is the more we walk in faith, the more our feelings start lining up with faith. Ralph Wald Emerson said: “All I have seen teaches me to trust the creator for all I have not seen.” Here's a stern warning: Hebrews 3:9 – Where your fathers tried (My patience) and tested (My forbearance) (tolerance) and found I stood their test, and they saw My works for 40 years. Their faith-less life caused them to be “skape met bokneigings”. Sheep with Goat attitudes Many times, we know and believe God has come through for us and still we chose to be “faithless”, negative, ungodly and disobedient and long to go back to the Egypt ways. The real reason why Israel missed the promised land and God's best for them. Only a faith-filled Joshua generation went in. Romans 11:19-21 - 19They were pruned (broken) off so that we might be grafted in. 20That is true. But they were broken (pruned) off because of their unbelief (their lack of real faith), and you are established through Faith (because you believe). So do not become proud and conceited but rather stand in awe and be reverently afraid. 21For if God did not spare the natural branches (because of unbelief), neither will He spare you (if you are guilty of the same offense). James 2:14 (Msg) -Dear friends, do you think you'll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything? Does merely talking about faith indicate that a person really, has it? (No!) In closing: How is your faith walk? Is your “Faith” showing itself through your daily actions? - o O o -

Listen in as we discuss how to heal emotionally, love earnestly, and live freely, with a special emphasis on the power of divine love.
Ever had someone say somewhat dismissively “Well, you're on your own.” In other words, I can't join you where you are going. Or, I won't join you. Sometimes this means I can't support you in what you're about to do. Like when someone says to me, “I'm trying to stop drinking coffee.” Well, you're on your own. There is another more complex situation in which I say something like “I want to join you but I'm not sure that's a good idea.” Like if I had just recently broken my deep and meaningful connection with/dependence on coffee and someone said “Can you help me perfect my espresso grind?” I want to join you, but I'm not sure that's a good idea. This Sunday we're going to look at the little tiny book of Jude. Jude has some instruction for followers of Christ who want to serve a role in rescuing others from the power of sin but who are also susceptible to the temptation of sin. It's a tricky pathway of navigating helping relationships while avoiding self-harm. Pastor Dr. Aaron Weisser

The title speaks for itself. Fight the good fight of faith!
We can remember also that the situation I'm in now can be remedied by the process of hearing Śrīmad Bhāgavatam, and if we take advantage of it, then very naturally, if we're in that state of mind of seriously hearing the Bhāgavatam, then, as the Sanskrit says in this verse, "Of those who hear in earnestness -śraddhayā," and nityam means always or regularly. So what does that mean? And this is one of the symptoms of being serious, is nityam. So nityam means always, like mahārāja-Parīkṣit, or it also means at least once a day, because our ācāryas have said, Where? In the Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu, the commentary is there from Jīva Gosvāmī, who mentions that, if we tell somebody who's got a lot of obligations, "Does anybody here have any obligations?" 1, 2, 3, I'm going to find somebody who doesn't have any. Okay, everyone's putting their hand up now. We have a lot of obligations right now in life, so then it means that you can't do it all the time. If we tell somebody that you should just do this all the time, like Parīkṣit Mahārāja, then it might be overwhelming. And you might think there's no entry point for me in this. So then they say something very practical for us, which is that it means at least once a day. So if we apply ourselves at least once a day, and don't miss a day to the process of hearing Śrīmad Bhāgavatam, then we'll attain the result. And it's very practical that if we get the perspective from the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam before we go out to meet our other obligations, then we'll meet them with alacrity and we'll also make better choices as we move about the day, just like when you're shopping, you make much better choices in shopping when you're not hungry. Earnestly I Seek YouNovember 10, 2024 • RD McClenagan • Psalm 63:1–4This Sunday, RD begins a two week series on Psalm 63. He looks at the stories of Martha and Mary and King David, highlighting the importance of choosing what truly matters: sitting at His feet and seeking Him wholeheartedly. As believers, we need to rekindle our desire for God, seeking intimacy and deeper connection rather than getting lost in busyness and distractions. We should have a "first love" posture, a passionate pursuit of God that transforms our personal lives and interactions with others. Through heartfelt prayer and worship, the invitation is to experience the fullness of God's presence, allowing His love to fuel a genuine, burning desire to know Him more.WEBSITE: https://fellowshipknox.org/INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/fellowshipknox/
[Jude 1:3 NKJV] Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. Jude 3 tells us to "contend earnestly for the faith." What does this mean for us today? It serves as a reminder to maintain our convictions, to stand up for what we believe in, and to be steadfast in the face of difficulties. These days, people are always asking questions about what they believe. It's important for us to hold onto what we know is true. When we stand strong in our faith, we strengthen our own beliefs and show others that there is hope and truth in the world. Earnestly contending for the faith includes the ministry of reproof, the pointing out of wrong or error. "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves" (Matthew 7:15) We are also responsible to expose and warn against such false teachings, just like Jesus did. House Communities at Gift Giving (12:3-8) I entitled this section house communities at gift giving to emphasize the original context for sharing spiritual gifts and developing the relational culture of Christian community. Paul's reciprocal pronouns, his “one another's”, are the building blocks of his house churches. And Romans 12 mentions three of them. The context is small house churches as noted in Romans 16:3-5, across the Gentile world. “Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my co-workers in Christ Jesus… Greet also the church that meets in their home.” 12:3-5 Paul is beginning to describe what a transformed charismatic church might look like. He's noted that transformation comes from renewing one's mind in order to discern God's will. He explains how to begin this renewal by addressing a necessary mindset, a self-perception. He uses a word for thinking four times. 3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. He's describing the mental pathway to achieving prudence, moderation, one of the cardinal virtues. ESV – sober judgment, thinking soberly about oneself, carries this idea. Such thinking is based in the mercies of God. He has to emphasize the attitude of humility because the gentile world considered it a weakness. He moves from humble self-assessment verse 16: Do not be haughty but associate with the lowly (a transformation beginning in one's self-assessment trickling down to one's social commitments (breaking through the mindsets of ethnic (Jew & Gentile), gender and class smuggery). This is an example of Christian transformation Paul has in mind. He tells each person not to think of themselves more highly than they out to think, but according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. Measure? Is Paul inferring that people can have more of a quantity of faith than others? “I have more faith than you do!” To measure yourself by the amount of faith that God has given you? This understanding could foster precisely what Paul seeks to avoid (thinking more highly of oneself). If not quantity, then what? Perhaps Paul is saying the criterion of a realistic self-assessment is the standard of faith—knowing that one's relationship to God is a matter of trust. But faith can grow, as he speaks of Abraham in Romans 4:20 who grew in his faith, giving glory to God. Faith is dynamic, able to stretch, grow, operate. And while all faith is a gift from God, there is a unique gift of faith mentioned in I Corinthians 12:9 which is a different manifestation of the Spirit than what we might call saving faith. Paul in 1 Corinthians 13:2 reflects that “If I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.” We began this series reflecting on the words of Jesus referring to faith in terms of size, the size of a mustard seed. In Matthew 17, the disciples come to Jesus having failed at exorcism. 19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” 20 He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,' and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” I don't believe Jesus is referring to the gift of saving faith, but what Paul mentioned in I Corinthians 12 and 13… Paul refers to Jesus' in this example - “… and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.”
Send us a messageKnowing that his time is short, the enemy's strategies have been taken to a higher level, with his deceptions being even more captivating. In the 1 Timothy 4:1-2 passage, one of the definitions for “aphistemi” as in “will fall away” is “to seduce.” And that demonic seduction has never been more alluring than in these last prophetic minutes of the “Last Hour.”Jude warned us of the seducing imposters who were already about the enemy'sbidding in his day – and who would continue to infect the Body of Christ with their persuasive enticements – even to the last minutes of the last days in which we are now living where in Chapter 1 and verse 4, he writes: “For certain persons have crept in unnoticed – those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation – ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.”Now more than ever are we being called to “contend EARNESTLY for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 1:3) and to” test every spirit” (1 John 4:1) for Jesus comes quickly – and the ARK is leaving soon! Desiring spiritual gifts is important, but our motives must be grounded in love and service for God. If we're not careful, our pursuit can shift toward a power drive or recognition, leading us away from God's purpose. In this message, we'll see how to seek these gifts with the right heart, ensuring they are used to serve others, build us up, and glorify God. It is our prayer that as you listen to this message, you are blessed and stirred up to desire spiritual gifts with a heart of love and service.

Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.17 Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. 18 Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.19 My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back, 20 remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.http://member.bulldozerfaith.com/givepaypal.me/bulldozerfaith https://cash.app/$bulldozerfaith https://member.bulldozerfaith.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Bulldozerfaith-Monthly-Magazine-October-2023.pdfDaily Devotional and teaching with Kenny Russell - Get connected with our Podcast Channelshttps://feeds.captivate.fm/what-then-shall-we-sayEmail kenny@bulldozerfaith.comNews Magazine - https://member.bulldozerfaith.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/BulldozerFaith-Monthly-Magazine-March-2024.pdf
SHOW NOTES: In Podcast Episode 283, “Praying Earnestly for Those Outside God's Will,“ Kim discusses the answered prayer of Elijah regarding the wayward Israelites. Elijah knew the Lord's promises and he prayed back to the Lord what he knew was His will. Our focal passages for this episode are 1 Kings 17:1 and James 5:17-18: 1 Now Elijah, who was from Tishbe in Gilead, told King Ahab, “As surely as the Lord, the God of Israel, lives—the God I serve—there will be no dew or rain during the next few years until I give the word!” 17 Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years! 18 Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops. (James 5:17-18) WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE: For whom do you need to begin to earnestly pray today? Additional Resources and Scriptures: 13 “If you carefully obey the commands I am giving you today, and if you love the Lord your God and serve him with all your heart and soul, 14 then he will send the rains in their proper seasons—the early and late rains—so you can bring in your harvests of grain, new wine, and olive oil. 15 He will give you lush pastureland for your livestock, and you yourselves will have all you want to eat. 16 “But be careful. Don't let your heart be deceived so that you turn away from the Lord and serve and worship other gods. 17 If you do, the Lord's anger will burn against you. He will shut up the sky and hold back the rain, and the ground will fail to produce its harvests. Then you will quickly die in that good land the Lord is giving you. (Deuteronomy 11:13-17) 9 So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10 Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better. 11 We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, 12 always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. Colossians 2:18-19 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind. 19 They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow. (NIV) 4 Insights On How To Activate Angels In Your Life 1. Be aware of the spiritual realm Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (NIV) 2 Corinthians 4:18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. (NIV) 2 Corinthians 10:3–4 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. (NIV) 2. Resist demonic attacks Daniel 6:13 Then they said to the king, “Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, Your Majesty, or to the decree you put in writing. He still prays three times a day.” (NIV) Daniel 6:22 My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.” (NIV) Matthew 4:11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him. (NIV) 2A. Resist with the Word of God Matthew 4:3- 4 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (NIV) 2B. Resist with the fear of God Matthew 4:7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” (NIV) 6 Blessings God Gives To Those Who Fear Him 1. Wisdom Proverbs 9:10 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." (NIV) 2. God speaks to those who fear him Psalm 25:14 "The Lord confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them." (NIV) 3. Protection for you and your children Proverbs 14:26 Those who fear the Lord are secure; he will be a refuge for their children. (NLT) 4. Life Proverbs 19:23 Fear of the Lord leads to life, bringing security and protection from harm. (NLT) 5. Prosperity Proverbs 22:4: True humility and fear of the Lord lead to riches, honor, and long life. (NLT) 6. Angelic help Psalm 34:7 "The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them." (NIV) 2C. Resist with worship Matthew 4:10-11 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” 11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him. (NIV) 3. Earnestly pray and seek God Acts 12:5–7 So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him. 6 The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. 7 Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!” he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists. (NIV) 4. Trust God at all times Psalm 91:2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” (NIV) 4A. Trust God when you’re being attacked Psalm 91:7-12 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. 9 If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, 10 no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. (NIV) 4B. Trust God when you feel like giving up 1 Kings 19:4–6 while he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.” 5 Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.” 6 He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. (NIV) 4C. Trust God when you don’t want to do his will Luke 22:41–43 “He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, 42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” 43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. (NIV)

Wallace J. Nichols was a friend, ocean advocate, and often requested guest on the podcast. I first met J when I was twenty. I was a young activist, a little too eager, convinced that the world needed saving, and I would be the one to save it. After giving him my little spiel, he took a long breath through his nose, smiled slightly, and said, “You're very earnest, Kyle. Don't lose that.” Over the next decade, we became buds. He gave me public speaking lessons, opened countless doors, and sat down for recorded chats. Even when months passed, each time we reconnected, the depth was immediate. The way he spoke, listened, and showed up caused anyone in his energy field to drop their shoulders and breathe a little deeper. In that way, J was like the ocean. Blue Mind is a book about water, but its core message is mental health. J knew that the mind is a muscle capable of moving the world, and his simple message of jumping in the water brilliantly flipped the doom and gloom narrative into a story that was personal:We won't save nature. Nature will save us. It's easy to try and numb pain with distraction. J felt life deeply, he was one of the most earnest people I know. And I think when he told me not to lose my own earnestness all those years ago, he was telling me not to lose my capacity to feel. Because life can hurt, so let it hurt. I end each podcast the same way: Get in the water, whichever body of water is closest to you. The next time we plunge into our “blue marble,” let's feel the sensation fully and thank our friend Wallace J. Nichols for all he gave us. Earnestly.
