Mason is a personal trainer turned into a food blogger, and his company is cleverly called Kinda Healthy Recipes. This is Mason's third time on the podcast, so we jump straight into casual conversation. It starts out with our recent caffeine experiments and how it's positively or negatively affected our well-being, emotions, and mood. After that, we touch on his recent wedding and the effects of COVID on that entire experience. Then, we talk about how he enjoys living in Austin, TX and I let him know my recent experience moving to NYC. Since he isn't from Austin and I'm not from NYC, we talk about how to make friends in a new city and how important it is for a happy life. Lastly, we talk about how he and his wife Vanessa, who's the CCO of the company, plans on pivoting their food blogger business into discussing more strategy for blogging in general. As usual, Mason is super easy going and a pleasure to chat with, so I'm sure this won't be the last one. Make sure to give this one a listen and check him out after. Enjoy! My friend Mason Woodruff joined Beyond Fit for a second time recently. In this episode we spent the first half talking about "motivation porn" and how a focused period in your life of self-improvement and lifestyle optimization can impact you. We also discussed Mason's reading habits now vs. in the past and taking action on all the information you're acquiring from podcasts, books, etc, and caught up with Mason's personal life a bit. In the second half- Mason dropped some great cooking knowledge! I even shared a few of my guiding principles in the kitchen as well. Mason is always one of my most chilled and down-to-earth guests. We didn't go deep into the science or philosophy in this one, but instead we broke down a very practical approach to living a good life. At least, what *we* would deem as a good life. I have a feeling you'll agree with us, though, and hopefully you can adopt some of these real examples and add them into your life for the better. We also talk about the paradox of choice, "cultivating" good energy, goal setting, and even Mason's upcoming honeymoon destinations. Hope you enjoy! Mason is an Arkansas-based personal trainer, sports nutritionist, and blogger. He's a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association, a Precision Nutrition Level 1 Coach, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from the University of Central Arkansas. His articles have been featured on sites like Muscle & Performance, Breaking Muscle, STACK, and Anytime Fitness, among others. Mason and I had a super casual convo about his upbringing and his path to where he is today - how he got into food blogging, how to cook more yourself, and how YouTube can fix every problem you've ever had. Hope you enjoy :) Connect with Mason: Website: https://masonfit.com/ Instagram: @mason_woodruff Facebook Group: The Proton Party Connect With Matt: FREE 30-Day Ultimate Physique Development Manual: http://bit.ly/UltimatePhysiqueDevelopment Hire Matt For Coaching: http://mcleodconsultingservices.com/online-coaching Instagram: @mattmcleod6 Website: http://mcleodconsultingservices.com ---- Produced by: David Margittai | In Post Media Website: https://www.inpostmedia.com/ Email: david@inpostmedia.com Social: @_margittai © 2020 Matt McLeod
Mason Woodruff is the creator of the successful food blog “Comfort Food Without the Calories” who has recently published two cookbooks dedicated to flexible dieting. He joins me today to discuss how his brand identity has evolved and how he’s used Pinterest to boost his business and social media following. Mason understands what it’s like to be the face of a brand and shares valuable insight on how to make solo-preneurship work for you! Mason’s background and how he grew his following on Instagram The importance of trial and error and finding what works for you Why you should find a balance between taking action and planning The benefits and drawbacks to having a personal brand Why Mason made food his primary focus for his business Tips for using Pinterest to drive more traffic to your Instagram Why Mason chooses to be a one man business How high expectations can cause more stress than success The value of having only one focus and sticking with it Mason’s lifelong appreciation for fitness led him to become a dietitian, personal trainer, an online coach, and even a regional sales manager for a gym. After reading tons of business management books and listening to even more business-focused podcasts, Mason decided to take a leap of faith and dedicate 100% of his time and energy to building his business and brand. He truly believes you can have what you want and do it all on your own if you’re willing to put in the work! Powerful Quotes to Remember: Content you don’t have to click away for is super valuable. Pinterest is a vehicle that drives clients where you want them to go as opposed to another platform you’re trying to build a following on. It’s okay to be a business of one and not want to grow into a massive company. To be unclear is to be unkind. If you put your goals so far away and make them insurmountable, it’s demotivating—not freeing. It’s better to be focused on the one thing that’s working and do that really, REALLY well. Mason Woodruff, is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) based in Arkansas. He also works as a sports nutritionist and freelance writer. You can find Mason's writing on sites like Muscle & Performance Magazine, Breaking Muscle, STACK, Anytime Fitness, and more. Mason's fitness journey started out as a high-level athlete; but once he stopped playing sports, he gained excess weight. After gaining 50 pounds and being called "husky" by his grandma, Mason decided it was time to get in the gym. As a former basketball player, strength training wasn’t a huge part of his training regimen. Despite his lack of knowledge, he got in the gym, lost the 50 pounds, and found his love of fitness. In this episode, we discuss: Taking a step back from writing online for a year Creating more video Drawing a line in the sand What made him put the pen down Worrying less about the things he can’t control Trusting in the process What gambling games he’s bad at Eating on a budget Cauliflower rice Why convenient foods are okay Fun Questions How standing up to work has changed his life The power of self-acceptance & the rockstar mentality Facebook
