As a seasoned leader with a remarkable journey through the realms of football, military service, and the corporate world, our guest this week has garnered invaluable wisdom from commanding teams on the field and in the boardroom. His candid storytelling transports us from the disciplined lessons of the Marine Corps to the challenges of adapting to the digital landscape in his current mission—coaching aspiring leaders. With his Stronger U program, he sheds light on the pressing need for tailored leadership development, revealing how the character and actions of leaders deeply influence organizational culture. It’s a conversation that unpacks the uncomfortable truth that many leaders fall short of embodying their company’s values, and how fear and a deficiency in formal training contribute to this shortfall. Throughout the episode, we peel back the layers of leadership, examining its simplicity yet profound impact on decision-making and talent management. Our guest emphasizes the potency of discipline and character—forged in his early years and honed through experiences in martial arts and military service—in shaping one's approach to both business and personal growth. We navigate the complexities of instilling these qualities, reflecting on how a leader's clarity and transparency can simplify strategies, and why nurturing self-trust is essential to embodying one's values amid organizational pressures. Closing out our enlightening dialogue, we tackle the resilience necessary to lead through crises, an aspect our guest knows all too well from his leadership during the tumultuous times of COVID-19 cutbacks. He shares the poignant challenges faced by war veterans and the dire need for support systems paralleling those provided by St. Jude’s for children. Concluding with insights on mentoring and building confidence, our guest leaves us not only with strategies for climbing our own leadership mountains but also with the profound realization that shaping the leaders of tomorrow is a commitment that extends well beyond the boardroom.

During this episode of Stronger U Radio, Manager of Nutrition Education and Innovation Gianna Masi, RD sat down with Jordan Dann, licensed psychoanalyst, relationship coach, and author of Somatic Therapy for Healing Trauma. The two discuss how having an awareness of how our body holds information about our attachment needs from moment to moment (also known as somatic experience) can be helpful in bringing the body back to a state of balance and results in healthier relationships. During their conversation, you'll hear how boundaries play a role in navigating a relationship with a partner, family member or friend who is unsupportive of your nutritional and lifestyle changes, as well as the importance of differentiation in this scenario. “So often people choose not to make a different choice that is in service of their better health because it's going to create a relational disturbance. They'd rather be confluent than to differentiate and navigate the discomfort,” states Jordan. She goes over some questions to ask yourself, such as: “what's uncomfortable for me about you not joining me?” “What's preventing me from being able to make those choices that I feel are best for myself even if you aren't going to be on board.” “What's going to be required for me to differentiate enough to set up habits that are going to be good for me.” Relational support is essential when moving into something new, so being able to lean on a coach and supportive community, such as we have at Stronger U, to help give us the internal strength to meet the dissatisfaction or discomfort of the people in our lives who want to challenge us, so we go back to the status quo. Stronger U has now been in business for 7 years and has an incredibly supportive community of 50,000+ strong!  "There's no shortage of apps and tools out there that use technology and help drive people to understand [nutrition] education. I think what we've been really successful at doing is humanizing the approach . . . We're unapologetically about the human-to-human relationship, because what's more intimate than what you put in your body? There's not a lot of things that are more intimate than that. And you need another human to help guide you through it and understand not just the specifics about what you're eating, but why you're eating it," states Zeitsiff.  Stronger U is direct-to-consumer but also has select partnerships with fitness facilities to provide nutrition support. Generally speaking, the program lasts approximately four to five months and provides education and accountability through a dedicated coach and an app. After four to five months, the user can access a lower price package to remain a part of their extremely vibrant community. In this episode Pete and Adam touch on:  1. How Stronger U is revolutionizing nutrition not by "dieting," but through a human-centric approach and community support. 2. What the differences are between a Registered Dietitian and a certified nutrition coach. 3. How Stronger U uses technology to personalize and sustain nutrition lifestyle changes. By getting back to the basics, your business will experience explosive growth. It's easy to get “shiny object syndrome” when it comes to growing our businesses - that is, the belief that we have to be chasing new and expensive marketing tactics all the time.  But Mike Doehla has proven that sometimes, the simplest things will create major opportunities! Mike founded Stronger U Nutrition to create an innovative online nutrition coaching company. In 2020 Stronger U was named one of America's fastest-growing private companies by Inc 5000, landing at #567. Before they were acquired by Anytime Fitness, the company helped tens of thousands of individuals in more than 50 countries through personalized nutrition support. Now, Anytime Fitness is expanding on Mike's vision. Stronger U is a story of brand loyalty through consistency: And how Mike stuck to the basics to create massive business success. Decide that your vision is worth fighting for. By his own admission, Mike Doehla used to be an “underachiever”. A graduate of his local Community College, Mike realized that he wanted to help people feel better-so committed himself to seeing it through, despite the many discouraging comments he received.  Casting aside the unsolicited advice and criticism of others, Mike tuned into his own capability as an entrepreneur and decided to show up for his clients. This decision would ultimately change the course of his life. Be a problem-solver. Mike's secret is super simple: Meet the clients where they are! Abandoning fancy ad strategies and expensive branding assets, Mike knew that the key to connecting with people was to show up for them…so that's what he did! By making his nutrition program personalized and attentive, his customers began trusting him wholeheartedly and spreading the word. He soon began the process of scaling his business to meet the demands of his growing fanbase and support more clients. Connect first, market later. Mike Doehla recognized something important in marketing: Before you invest in branding and advertising, you have to understand your clients' problems.  By investing in personal relationships and being generous, Mike grew his business through the type of genuine brand loyalty advertising money cannot buy. Quotes “People are turned off by traditional marketing. People always have their guard up. I want to buy a product because it solves a problem, and because someone I like told me about it.” “We just had to multiply what I did. When I could serve our customers very well, I needed people on the staff that could serve them as well or better. We looked for people who aligned with our nutritional philosophies, people with high emotional intelligence who are available to be customer-centric.” “I mostly thought of the challenges people were facing around food. Then, we crafted posts and content for those people.” “I would solve problems people didn't even know they had. Then, they would start following me and eventually become customers. I would just give, give, give.” “I would go where the people were. People have questions. I would go and give advice, not really to sell stuff. Think about where the customer is! They're not excited to follow a business that talks about the business.” “Stop worrying about the numbers. Just do the things that will influence the direction of those numbers.” “I had a lot of feelings of being an imposter. I didn't go to school for this stuff…I had to prove myself. But once the customers were getting great results, I worked to put that out there. I always knew, all I need to do was help people and they'll put that out into the world.” “I almost didn't do this because of what people on the internet said…people I don't even know.” Links mentioned in this episode: Explore Stronger U Nutrition on their website https://strongeru.com/who-we-are/  Follow Stronger U on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/strongeru/  Follow Mike's personal and entrepreneurial journey on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/mikedoehla/
