Your path doesn't have to be perfectly linear to get to where you're meant to be. You don't have to get a master's degree by 25. You can take 10 years to graduate college or even longer, if that's what happens to work for you. Josh and Maureen's young adulthood looked very different from each other yet, they both ended up at the exact same destination. Josh knew exactly what he wanted to do in college while Maureen figured out her purpose only after years of going to college, dropping out, traveling, and repeating. Now, they both are the Co-Founders and Executive Directors Red Mountain Sedona and Colorado where they bring both of their passions together and help young adults overcome emotional and/or behavioral challenges. In this episode of Success is Subjective, Josh and Maureen join Joanna to share their different college journeys and how their paths happened to cross, perfectly aligning. Listen in for their insight on how to take advantage of your young adult years and get a look at why it's not important to have a linear path. What You Will LearnThe high expectations placed on both Josh and Maureen around educationWhat it was like going to college at the early age of 17The different childhood traumas they both had to learn to work through while in collegeMaureen's journey as she discovered what she is most passionate aboutThe huge play that studying abroad had in Maureen's discoveryHow Josh and Maureen's paths' crossedHow Red Mountain Sedona and Colorado came about Your path doesn't have to be linear! How to achieve anything you wantWhy it's so important to be your own friendConnect with Josh & MaureenRed Mountain SedonaRed Mountain ColoradoRed Mountain on YoutubeEmail josh@redmountainprograms.comEmail maureen@redmountainprograms.com Connect with Joanna Lilley Lilley ConsultingLilley Consulting on Instagram Lilley Consulting on Facebook Success is Subjective on Apple PodcastSuccess is Subjective on Google PodcastSuccess is Subjective on iHeart RadioSuccess is Subjective on SpotifySuccess is Subjective on StitcherSuccess is Subjective on AmazonSuccess is Subjective on Tune in RadioSponsored by: College Parent Survival NetworkEmail joanna@lilleyconsulting.com

Meditation and mindfulness are two concepts that have escaped me for years. I've always known that there's a lot we can benefit from both of them but it's difficult to find people that know much about them or can teach them in a way that makes sense. Josh and Maureen are some of the best I've found yet. In this interview we discuss tools, practices, methods, physiological benefits, mental benefits, health benefits, and more. Maureen White earned her Master’s Degree in Psychology from Naropa University, the nation’s leading training program for mindfulness-based therapy. Maureen is known for her ability to combine penetrating insight with humor and warmth. She has worked with young people and their families since 1996, helping countless parents and young adults to resolve long-standing issues and move into new places of abundant love and peace. Maureen speaks Spanish and has taught internationally. Maureen is a sought-after trainer for businesses seeking to learn mindfulness-based organizational management strategies. For seven years, she led transformational three-day workshops at a residential treatment center for young women. An authorized meditation teacher, she has served as core staff for multiple meditation retreats and worked with hundreds of adolescents and young adults at the apex of therapy and mindfulness practices. Josh White, Sensei, MA, LCMHC, CGP earned his Master’s Degree in Psychology from Naropa University, the nation’s premier mindfulness-based therapeutic training institution. A recognized leader and innovator within the young adult treatment field, Josh has presented nationally at conferences for the Young Adult Transition Association, American Group Psychotherapy Association, Independent Educational Consultants Association, Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare Council, and National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs. After beginning his career with adolescents and young adults as a martial arts instructor in 1994, Josh shifted his focus to behavioral health in 1998, serving as both a behavioral health technician and a Master’s-level clinician before becoming an administrator in 2005. Prior to the founding of Red Mountain, Josh served as a Program Director, Clinical Director, and Executive Director in top treatment programs for adolescents and young adults, gathering a wealth of experience which now guides the philosophy and day-to-day operations of Red Mountain. A Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Certified Group Psychotherapist, Josh is a Senior Instructor and the second-ranking active practitioner of Ten-Chi Kenpo, an innovative martial art combining Karate, Jujitsu, Judo, Aikido, and T’ai Chi. Josh is one of approximately 250 teachers worldwide authorized to teach in the White Plum Zen tradition, and enjoys incorporating Zen teachings into his clinical work. Josh served on the faculty at Naropa University and Oregon Health and Science University, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the White Plum Zen Teachers Association and Prajna Zendo. Josh was a founding officer of the Colorado Group Psychotherapy Society, and is active in local and national charities. A proud husband and father whose greatest joys in life are his wife and son, Josh is also an avid guitarist and former professional musician who opened for Run DMC, Vertical Horizon, and the Violent Femmes. When he’s not spending time with his family and Red Mountain students, he enjoys hiking with his dogs in Sedona’s majestic Red Rocks; building and playing guitars; and competing in (and occasionally winning) his long-running fantasy baseball league. “Mindfulness saved my life. Learning how to watch my thoughts, feelings and impulses arise and fall saved me from a self-destructive path fueled by past trauma and poor choices. Today I am living my dream teaching and mentoring young people who are just like I was, and helping them find a path of productivity and peace.” www.redmountainsedona.com

On Win's Women of Wisdom today, Best-Selling Author, Win Kelly Charles welcomes Josh White. The owner / operators of Red Mountain Sedona are Maureen White, MA, and Josh White, Sensei, MA, LCMHC, CGP. Josh and Maureen met at Naropa University in 1999, while both were pursuing Master’s Degrees in Psychology. Five years later, they were married, and a year after that, their wonderful son was born. Maureen and Josh worked together in private practice for several years, followed by five years side-by-side in high-profile roles at an adolescent / young adult treatment center. The inspiration for Red Mountain was born from their vision of a mindfulness-based program which would help young people understand their own minds, thoughts, and patterns of behavior. Maureen and Josh felt mindfulness was an untapped vehicle for helping young people make healthy choices and “launch” into successful lives. Josh and Maureen are experts at reaching young people who are “stuck” and helping them to find their path. They are highly involved in the lives of their four young adult nieces and nephews, and have over 25 years’ experience between them in the ever-evolving world of young adult treatment. They also bring nearly 20 years of personal recovery and over 40 years of meditation practice between them to their work at Red Mountain. As parents themselves, Josh and Maureen understand the process parents go through to find the very best options for their children. They understand the delicate balance involved in guiding kids vs. “forcing” them, and the difficulties families experience in determining how much to push and how much to let go. Maureen and Josh welcome the opportunity to help you, or your loved one, find lasting answers to the issues holding you back. They are highly involved in the day-to-day operations of Red Mountain, with nearly daily contact with all Red Mountain clients and their families. Along with Red Mountain’s expert staff, Josh and Maureen are proud to offer the very finest in cutting-edge approaches and modalities to help you and your family enjoy lasting recovery from compulsive behavior, mood issues, and self-sabotaging behavior.
