They cover topics such as supplements, carb loading, and carb sources. They also provide tips for carb loading while traveling and planning ahead for race day. The episode emphasizes the importance of focusing on nutrient-dense foods and sticking to a carb loading plan that works for each individual. In this conversation, Emily, a registered dietitian and avid runner, provides valuable insights on proper carb loading, race morning preparation, fueling during the race, post-race nutrition, and dealing with poor appetite. She emphasizes the importance of practicing and rehearsing nutrition strategies during training to optimize performance on race day. Emily recommends eating until comfortably full during carb loading, having a carb-rich breakfast on race morning, and fueling with a combination of gels, sports drinks, and snacks during the race. She also highlights the significance of consuming protein, carbs, fluids, and electrolytes immediately after the race to aid in recovery and adaptation. Takeaways Practice and rehearse nutrition strategies during training to optimize performance on race day. Eat until comfortably full during carb loading and have a carb-rich breakfast on race morning. Fuel during the race with a combination of gels, sports drinks, and snacks, aiming for 30-60 grams of carbs per hour for races under 2.5 hours and 60-90 grams of carbs per hour for longer races. They discuss topics such as focusing on body composition, preparing for high volume training, diet for older runners, the importance of blood tests, and where to learn more from Emily. Takeaways The off-season is a good time to focus on body composition goals, such as losing body fat or gaining muscle. When focusing on body composition, it's important to avoid extreme diets and instead make small adjustments to calorie intake and macronutrient distribution. Strength training is important during the off-season to support muscle mass and body composition goals. Older runners should pay attention to their protein intake to prevent muscle loss and support recovery. Regular blood tests can help identify any nutrient deficiencies and guide the use of supplements. When Emily Moore was just 19 she suffered a knee injury which led to her being told she'd never walk unaided again, let alone run. Now, she's on the edge of taking on the toughest footrace in the world, the formidable Marathon des Sables, in April. After suffering her injury, Emily was determined she would run again, immediately entering the London Marathon. A painful period of rehabilitation followed, but her dream became a reality with her knee surgeon among those cheering her to the finish line. Since then, Emily has completed a number of marathons and triathlons, teaching herself to swim along the way. And last year she turned ultra runner, completing the Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultra in October 2022. That was followed by the five-day, 123-mile Capital to Country Ultra in Nepal last year. Her decision to powerwalk it, rather than run, saw her discover a unique way of tackling the endurance event that also featured a blessing at a school and a wedding. Running Tales spoke to Emily about running while pregnant, how the sport has helped her meet friends all over the world, and why the Nepal Capital to Country Ultra saw her find herself again after divorce...   -------------------------------- Discount offer: Racin' Grayson Training Log & Planner Looking for a great gift for runners or the perfect training aid for yourself, designed by a pro-runner? Emily wanted some coaching on the podcast specifically about how to manage her team. She wrote in saying: I need help with Onboarding and training valuable employees, and making each lash artists work similar so that we can proudly say that all of our clients can see anyone here. Trying to copy and paste 'me', and let clients know that the other lash artists are just as great, so that I can move into more education + supply + science and keeping up with how we can offer the BEST services. I can't lash 6 clients a day and run my business AND make sure that we are doing all of the things. ya feel me? I do feel ya Emily - can some of you relate to her struggles - even if you don't have a team - maybe some of these challenges are what's stopping you from doing so! So on today's episode you'll hear me coach Emily just how to create an army of Emily's that can create consistent results that are equal to or better than Emily herself AND how her role shifts from managing to leading in her business.  And this is a final call for any of you who are wanting to build out your team and create a scalable business where you stop trading your time for money. Today, Debbie brings her 43-year-old niece, Emily Moore, onto the podcast to talk about life and death and her recent grueling course of chemotherapy to eradicate breast cancer.Emily teaches English at Stuyvesant, one of Manhattan's competitive-entry public high schools. She's also a published poet (one of her poems was published in The New Yorker), and has a PhD in English. She lives in Brooklyn with her wife and two young children.Debbie asks Emily what it was like to, unexpectedly, be forced to stare death in the face in her early 40s. Those of us beyond midlife are (supposedly) starting to wrap our minds around the hard stop of death. But Emily doesn't really answer because it turns out it was the wrong question.Instead she speaks eloquently about how much energy she's put into fighting for life (she calls it putting on her "game face" despite how horrific the chemotherapy was) and how vulnerable she now feels and how that has changed her.She also talks about how she'll never be "okay" again, meaning that things won't ever really return to the way they were before her cancer diagnosis. And she compares it to our collective wish to go back to the pre-pandemic "normal" of 2019 and how that probably won't happen.Tune in to a powerful episode to listen to Emily's lilting voice and positive take on her experience. Mentioned in this episode or useful:Braving Chemo: What to Expect, How to Prepare and How to Get Through It by Beverly A. EP 57- SOAP Proverbs 24-  A season of SOAP is back again! The SOAP episodes have been the most downloaded episodes and I am bringing them back! Each Friday I will release a SOAP episode! SOAP is an acronym for Scripture,  Observation, Application, and Prayer. You can journal along as God reveals what He has to say to you each time you SOAP. In this episode I get the honor of SOAP'ing Proverbs 24 with my dear friend and wise counselor Emily Moore. Emily is married to Pastor Bryan Moore of East Coast Christian Center for 19 years. She is mom of 4, works at the church, plans community events, assists with missions, marriage mentoring, and plays on the worship team. Emily observes in verse 3 about how to gain wisdom and knowledge and how that wisdom comes from God and wise counsel. She observes to surround ourselves with both wise counselors and staying in God's word to help her in her home, with ministry, and beyond. She discusses the wise counsel she relies on for her life decisions. we discuss the benefit of getting "Wordly"  vs "worldly" advice. She also observes in verses 15-17 regarding the wicked vs the righteous and how God handles them both and how God says we are to handle the wicked as well. I observe in verse 10-11 where we are to not faint in adversity and aren't we in much adversity lately?  I reveal a verse that tells us exactly what to do in order not to faint. I talk about how I once 'tottered to the slaughter' by claiming to be agnostic. By the grace of God I have been saved and redeemed, not by my own works, but by faith alone. This SOAP series is in partnership with Morning Breath, which is an East Coast Christian Center drive time devotional in which a Pastor and guest SOAP through scripture ON AIR both on radio and a podcast Mon-Thur. If you said this prayer- you are justified immediately and made right with God.Living a life to glorify God is a life- long journey! But know that right now you are saved and set free from the bondage of sin (including past, present and future sin). Nothing can separate you from the love of God and living in eternity with Him. Did you receive Christ today? If so, Congratulations! It's the best decision you have ever made!

From a tiny, rented house in Copán Ruinas, Honduras, Emily Monroe began to implement her dream of providing daycare, child protection, and education to at-risk children. With few resources, much hope, many ideas, and the help of friends, the dream of helping children stay with their families has become reality. Casita Copán, a community-based organization in Copán, Honduras provides economic opportunities and social assistance to single mothers and their children. Click on play to learn: Why children are at risk of abandonment in Copán Ruinas, Honduras. How family style homes provide temporary foster care at Casita Copá What assistance is available through the Mercadito program to help women start a business. There are few opportunities to find employment for single mothers in small rural towns in Honduras to earn enough money to support their children. Emily Moore saw a need for gainful employment when she visited Honduras more than 10 years ago and began to think about what she could do to change the fact that too many single-parent families in Honduras live in poverty with limited opportunities. The reality of these small rural towns is that single mothers are raising their children while working long hours in low-paying jobs. Children considered at risk can be sent to institutions far away from their communities because few resources exist within the community. Casita Copán fills the need for a day care center for children that provides education, nutrition, and health services to young children. There are few opportunities for youth in Honduras to obtain an education. Through Casita Copán, local youth have an opportunity to participate in educational programming, workshops, trainings, and even internships in the community to obtain work experience. Students may earn a scholarship to attend high school and continue their education. In today's episode, we are going to be talking about the problems I have faced with social media. It's been difficult finding someone to help me create content that is engaging and true to me and my business. In trying to be efficient with my time, I realized that I don't do social media very well. I enjoy the interaction with customers and colleagues, but I am not very good at playing the algorithms. I decided to start working with someone to help me create and curate my social media posts.Initially, I worked with someone for 3 weeks on my social media. Suddenly, she stopped communicating with me and I have been unable to contact her since. The next person I worked with was recommended by colleagues. I was supposed to create a shared folder with logos, etc. for her to pull from, but I became busy and she posted without allowing me to proof the post first. When I explained to her that I wanted to verify posts before she sent them, she took great offense. We realized we were not a good match. Now, I am working with Emily Moore, owner of Lingows Media in Denver. The experience has been totally different than with the previous people. Emily and her company have made a great effort to understand my needs and my business needs. If you are in the service industry, no matter how long you have been in business, you have to understand that your business is not about you. Your business is about your customer. That is why Emily's approach worked so well. It is your job to provide a service to your client.  Contact me here: podcast@tradingupconsulting.comFind out more about Trading Up Consulting here: https://www.tradingupconsulting.com/ Learn about Lingows Media: https://www.lingows.media/Visit our sponsor SmartPad Pro:https://www.smartpadpro.com

Alongside her studies Emily is a mental health campaigner and regularly shares updates and awareness for the community. In this episode Jack and Emily chat about Emily's journey, and how she came to experience poor mental health from the age of 14, during her later years of high school. Alongside this, the pair also speak about a very unique memory they share, appearing on a psychology podcast titled 'How Did We Get Here?' with Professor Tanya Byron and TV presenter Claudia Winkleman, and share what they learnt since, and how it changed them. In this Episode, Emily encourages you to do the same. It's a never ending task, but it's doable!! All you need to do is to unleash your inner hero (by the way, everybody has one)! However you decide to show kindness and love, "do it in a way that encourages & empowers others". We would love to hear how you spread kindness & love in your family, school, job & community.
