To make sense of the recent resurgence in point-and-shoot cameras, we're returning to French philosopher and cultural theorist Roland Barthes! We begin with a conversation about the major technological shifts that have occurred in photography between 1980 (when Barthes published Camera Lucida) and today. Hannah then leads us in a theory section all about "the Punctum." Together, she and Marcelle parse Barthes' understanding of what makes photography distinct from other mediums and how Time is entangled with our emotional relationship to snapshots captured on camera. If you've never heard of "the Punctum," let this episode be your introduction to one of Barthes' more moving contributions to our theory tool belt!***Happy holidays from the Material Girls team! Today's episode is one I've been looking forward to for a long time. We're diving into a topic that doesn't get talked about nearly enough in our field—men's mental health—and why so many traditional therapy approaches miss the mark when it comes to helping men heal. My guest is Marc Azoulay, LPC, LAC, CGP, ACS—the founder of Men's Therapy Online and host of The Men's Therapy Podcast. Marc brings a powerful blend of psychoanalysis, neuroscience, and Buddhism to his work, and he's built an incredible community that helps men get real, get connected, and get results. In this conversation, we're breaking down what it actually takes to build trust and respect with male clients, why "safety" isn't always the right starting point, and how we as therapists can better support men in becoming the best versions of themselves. Marc also shares some fantastic insights on private practice growth, niching boldly, and finding your authentic voice as a clinician. This one's packed with wisdom and heart—so stay tuned, you're really going to enjoy it. In this episode of People-First Builders, host Fletcher Wimbush sits down with Jim Robinson, President & CEO of CGP Maintenance & Construction Services, leadership coach, and soon-to-be author of Lead With Empathy (co-written with Chris Voss). With 40 years in business, Jim has grown CGP into a people-first organization known for unmatched employee loyalty, multi-decade tenure, and an education-driven culture. His approach is simple but rare in the trades: grow the person first — and performance will follow. What You'll Learn from Jim in This Episode: • How leading with empathy builds long-term loyalty Jim shares how early experiences serving others shaped his leadership philosophy and taught him to meet people where they are — whether they want slow growth or rapid acceleration. • Why CGP trains not just employees, but their spouses You'll hear how CGP discovered that growing an employee too quickly without involving their partner created conflict at home — and how including significant others in conferences and education transformed entire families. • The power of structured education and the "law of anticipation" Jim explains CGP's multi-year training journey, weekly assessments, and how always giving employees something to look forward to keeps them engaged, hungry, and committed. • Why hiring for character beats hiring for skill CGP hires tradespeople based on empathy, urgency, energy, and values — not technical ability — because skills can be taught, but character can't. • How CGP fills leadership roles exclusively from within You'll learn why Jim avoids hiring competitors' employees, why the company never rehires people who leave, and how internal promotion protects culture. • CGP's lightning-fast "application to offer in 8 hours" process Jim breaks down how they evaluate values alignment, involve supervisors immediately, and create a high-urgency experience that mirrors what's expected on the job. • How CGP runs 24/7 operations with cross-trained teams Hear how they prepare people for multi-disciplinary work across nights, days, and three construction shifts — and why it creates pride, mastery, and team connection.

The Unspoken Grief of Divorced Men and How to Rise From It with Founder of Men's Therapy Online, Marc Azoulay, LPC, LAC, CPG, ACS

Journey Beyond Divorce Podcast

In this episode of the Journey Beyond Divorce Podcast, I sit down with Marc Azoulay, psychotherapist and founder of Men's Therapy Online, for a raw and powerful conversation about the struggles men face during and after divorce. Too often, men are left to navigate their grief alone—raised to be stoic, self-sufficient, and emotionally guarded. But when divorce shatters their world, the quiet reckoning sets in. Identity collapses. Numbness and rage surface. Disbelief lingers. Many men find themselves staring at the wreckage of what used to be, barely recognizing who they are anymore. Marc and I explore what it really takes for men to move through this kind of pain and begin rebuilding their lives. We talk about the collapse of identity after divorce, the hidden cost of traditional masculinity, and why community, mentorship, and ritual are essential for healing. Marc offers practical guidance for finding structure and meaning again, navigating co-parenting while hurting, and stepping back into dating without the masks that keep men disconnected from their truth. He also shares the deeper practices that help men reclaim themselves and rise stronger—on their terms. Marc Azoulay, LPC, LAC, CGP, ACS, is the founder of Men's Therapy Online, a groundbreaking healing community that combines psychoanalysis, neuroscience, and Buddhism. His work—whether through group counseling, individual therapy, or wilderness retreats—creates safe spaces where men can confront their grief, break down unconscious barriers, and discover the man they were always meant to be. If you are a man navigating the grief of divorce and searching for clarity, brotherhood, and strength, this episode will offer both insight and a path forward. In this special 40th Anniversary episode of the Service Evolution podcast, Jim Robinson takes listeners on a heartfelt journey through his entrepreneurial story and the founding of CGP. Starting from humble beginnings, Jim recounts how as a child, necessity drove him to learn hands-on repair skills that ultimately shaped his destiny. By the age of twelve, he had the vision to lead a company, long before fully understanding what that meant. Over the years, Jim's relentless belief in serving others and fixing anything laid the groundwork for CGP's unique approach and lasting impact in the facilities services industry.Jim discusses the evolution of the business, from early days without any competition, through significant growth, and ultimately to building long-term relationships with major clients. He shares the importance of carefully choosing which clients to work with, prioritizing core values like respect, service, and mentoring both employees and customers. CGP's culture revolves around serving others as you would your great-grandmother, embracing mistakes as learning opportunities, and nurturing leadership from within the organization.Reflecting on four decades of leadership, Jim emphasizes the importance of building a diverse team that learns and grows together. He explains his vision of legacy, developing future leaders who will eventually take the reins. Jim also offers candid advice about the myth of work-life balance, acknowledging the sacrifices involved and encouraging intentional presence with both family and career.
