Let's do these the whole show instead of the show. Bigfoot Borough. Turtle Town is a quaint little (big) neighborhood. And it's gotta be big, because it's full of real big turtles. Not Ninja Turtle big, those guys were big but like size of a bus big, eat your house big, ride across the ocean on their backs if you forged an unbreakable bond with them by saving their home land from a dragon big, stuff like that.    TURTLES are REPTILES. They live in the WATER, but they breathe AIR. They have SHELLS. What a WEIRD ANIMAL.    If you think about it, turtles are almost like their own cryptid already. Not as weird as the Platypus but still pretty weird. I mean. Shells? Some of them live to be super old too, like 100 years or so.    Intrinsic weirdness aside, there are a lot of legends and cryptid encounters associated with turtles.    THE WORLD TURTLE - Present in a lot of mythologies. Basically the idea is that the WHOLE WORLD sits on top of the back of a giant turtle. Turtle world. Turtle Planet.    The oldest version we know about seems to come from Hindu mythology. The god Vishnu appears in the avatar of a giant turtle named Kurma, which had a mountain on its back.    It also popped up, seemingly independently in First Nations lore, such as the Iroquois and Lenape, who portray it as a giant sea turtle.    It's cool to think of ancient societies observing the world around them and going, “Oh yeah, all this is on a turtle.” If you think about how they would have observed turtles in the wild, you know, algae and stuff growing on their backs, they kind of look like little models of earth.    Historians and scholars also talk about themes that would likely have been in play, such as longevity and continuation, which were important to some of the First Nations tribes and really have been important to human societies for most of history. People would have noticed that turtles lived a long time and also kind of represent security and strength. Local to Churubusco, Whitley County, Indiana, also referred to by the nickname Turtle Town, which I did not know when I tentatively named this episode. According to one online source, the nickname originally stems from ‘Little Turtle,' the name of a sagamore (chief) of the Miami tribe, but it's later become associated with the giant turtle sighting at Fulk Lake.   First sighting is said to come from 1898 by a guy named Oscar Fulk who spotted it on a large lake on his property. Like, really large, 7 acres apparently.  FIFTY YEARS went by. Then in 1948, two men named Ora Blue (that's a name right there) and Charley Wilson were fishing on the same lake, when they reported seeing a similar creature - just a huge, huge turtle, which they described as looking like a snapping turtle with huge spiky shell “the size of a dinner table,” and now all I can think about is Bowser from Mario Bros.  Gale Harris, who owned the property at the time of the second sighting, got really into the whole thing, and launched multiple expeditions to try and capture it, including one wherein he drained the 7 acre lake. They tried nets and damming streams and all kinds of stuff. They never found the turtle and it nearly bankrupted him.  The local media picked it up a few months after the Blue/Wilson encounter, and it became another Cryptozoological staple. Thrill seekers, monster hunters and now internet weirdos (like us!) became fascinated with the story, and it hangs around in the new millennium.  Turtle Brother is supposed to be around 500 pounds. Adult male alligator snapping turtles (the ones we know for sure exist) can hit over 200 pounds, so maybe Busco Boy was just a really really big turtle, but you gotta wonder how he got that big. By the same token, alligator snapping turtles aren't supposed to live in Indiana, so if it were one of those, it would represent its own anomalous encounter on par with Phantom Big Cats and other out-of-place animals. Some natural historians don't think they ever lived there at all, though specimens have been seen as close as the White River in Morgan County, as recently as 1991, but experts posit that this was likely an escaped or released domestic specimen based on its growth pattern. Two head turtle, Turtle Two Head, Turtle Tim and The Two Headed Ogua, I don't know, this would make a great kids movie though. A lot of cryptid stories would make good kids' movies.  Anyway though, this guy shows up in Virginia and Pennsylvania and Ohioooooo, right near you guys. Aleghenny and Monongahela rivers apparently.  Did you, did you check for turtles? Turtle check? When you went outside today? Watch out for this guy because he's- Twenty feet long! That's longer than cars. 500 pounds. Does this seem too long? Like shouldn't something that long weigh more? Unless he's like a really slim cigar shaped turtle? I dunno, I'm not good at math, maybe somebody can figure out what a twenty foot long thing that's also 500 pounds would look like and draw it.  Story goes that in 1745 (before the Revolution) a giant two headed turtle jumped out of the river and ate a 12 year old boy who was fishing. Which is kind of how alligators and predatory turtles hunt you know, like hiding right under the surface. Bummer.  There are supposed to be sightings “all over Marion county” according to online sources but specifics are spotty. Did you guys SEE the Ogua when you were children? Were you WARNED not to get EATEN by two headed turtles? So could any of these guys actually exist? Maybe not the world turtle one unless we're just gonna decide that that's real. I like it so I'm good with it.  The biggest turtle ever known to exist was the Archelon Ischyros, a sea turtle that grew up to 15 feet long and was believed to weigh up to three tons.  See that's what I was saying earlier - something 20 feet long would need to weigh more than 500 pounds. BUT an especially large Alligator Snapping turtle could, maybe, possibly, be MISTAKEN for weighing 500 pounds, or maybe actually weigh close to that much. There are people who are way taller than the average person so it probably happens with turtles. It could be a whole thing where there just were some really big turtles hanging out in these areas and witnesses mistook them for being 20 feet long.  What they're doing in Indiana and Ohio though is another mystery.  Ultimately it's not a question of whether turtles this size/near this size existed - it's a question of whether or not one matching the anatomy of a snapping turtle could get this large, and if it could/did ever exist in some of these northern parts of the country, AND if they could still be hanging around in the modern day. We're essentially talking about dinosaurs here - should the “turtle cryptids” be thought of the same way we think about Plesiosaurs and other “surviving dinosaur” stories? Is this just too many questions?  We're also talking about behaviors really closely associated with gators/crocs (the ambush hunting) so maybe there were some stories about alligators that got mixed up and turned into stories about turtles, but that seems like a stupid guess now that I'm typing it out. And also alligators aren't supposed to be in Ohio or Indiana either.  SOME POP CULTURE REFERENCES - Plenty of giant turtles in Pop Culture. There's that Gamera guy, and the smaller Toho kaiju Kameobas from the cult film Yog: Monster from Space (Kameobas also shows up in Godzilla: Tokyo SOS, 2004). There's the giant turtle from Aladdin and King of Thieves, always liked that guy. The Pokemon Torterra is pretty clearly a take on the World Turtle idea (got trees and mountains on his back and in the Detective Pikachu movie he's the size of a mountain). There's this video game called Fortnite you may have heard of. Giant turtle in there as a part of the Oni/Ninja theme they did for season whatever it was - is that guy still around? I haven't played in awhile. He was cool though you could hide in the trees on his back and find really crappy shotguns and then get killed by a much better player who already figured out that's a bad strategy.  — Thanks for listening everybody! Danielle goes dystopic with The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins. This 2020 prequel to The Hunger Games follows the charming romantic misadventures of Cornelius Snow; the charismatic ne'er-do-well who brought us such classics as failing to kill Katniss Everdeen, destroying his own despotic regime, and not understanding the plight of the common man. Flashback to teenage Cornelius who has been tapped for the prestigious role as mentor in the tenth annual Hunger Games. Once wealthy, his family has fallen on hard times and thanks to the promise of a monetary prize to the mentor of the best-in-show tribute, he is in it to win it. Unfortunately, he gets assigned the suckiest tribute: the girl from district 12. Bummer. Just kidding. She sings! And wears colors! And has a weird affinity for snakes! Cornelius can work with that. Unfortunately, though ten years into the Games, they are shockingly ill-run and Sam and Danielle have THOUGHTS. The Gamemaker is more concerned with creating mutated animals that will not help them keep their dystopia in check, they did not invest in an event planner, and nobody has thought to feed the tributes. Oh no, what's a boy who needs to win the Hunger Games to do? Join Danielle and Sam as they try to make kid-to-kid combat funny, discuss their ideal dystopian regimes (spoiler: they'd be excellent at organizing The Hunger Games), and deep-dive into the mind of the innovative young man who is just trying to help his country be as successful as it can be.

THE DAVID ALLIANCE TDAgiantslayer@Gmail.com  Garth Heckman Ever shoot a roll of film and not have film in the camera… I know this world in 2025 probably most of you have no idea what that was like, but it happened a few times to me….   I sent some boys out in a car to take pictures of street names that would tell a story… 30 plus miles all over the city of Madison… it took them a good 4 hours… they came back and had no film in the camera… BUMMER.    Its not the subject, or the film or even the skill level that makes a great shot…    If you take a camera and smudge the lens If you keep the cap on it If you choose not to focus it If you shoot it in the dark without light If you take pictures of just one color or one object up close… Upon his retirement as CEO of the Coca-cola Company Donald R. Keough spoke to the graduating class of Emory (1993). To those young men and women who would soon be facing a very tough and critical world, he said, "I have an architect friend who says, 'I can take the newest building, built by the finest builders anywhere in the world, and if you give me a camera and the ability to focus various lenses, I can make that building look like it's about to fall down because I will find five or six minor imperfections, focus on them and convince you that the entire structure is about to topple.'"   The point is clear… whatever you focus on is what you will see and what you will find.  Now in photography focus has two thoughts. One the camera itself needs to be in focus, but also the subject matter that you choose to focus on to take a picture of is critical.    Phil. 4:7-9 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.   Isn't it interesting that twice in this passage it says if you want to have peace in your life, it all depends on what you focus on. Focus on what is true… well thats hard in todays world… Are cold plunge baths good or bad… Are eggs good or bad Is Carnivore good or bad… But beyond this… focus on what is true according to scripture, focus on what is lovely, admirable excellent praiseworthy… THINK on these things and you will have Gods peace.    What you focus on is what you will focus on… and it will either bring unrest or peace.

In other news, Hades 2 will be a timed console exclusive for the Switch 2. The game will also come to PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, but PlayStation and Xbox users will have to wait a bit. And finally, the Switch 2 GameCube controller might only work on GameCube Classics titles from Nintendo Switch Online. Bummer, if you were hoping to play Smash Bros. Ultimate with the new GameCube controller, but then again, it might work and Nintendo is just covering their bases just in case.

Put on your romance shoes and buckle up your dancing suspenders, 'cause it is February and that rhymes with love and that stands for this issue. Booyah baby, hit that tambourine! Is there any other way to start of this discussion besides talking about She-Hulk in that dress....ME to the OW! Wear that dress, girl! 'Nuff Said! And when we talk about the most romantic place on the planet, what about Latvaria. Nothing says hot, steamy nights more than a brutal dictatorship. Snuggle close to your loved one, cause there is no other way to stay warm. Everybody loves a romantic restaurant. And an entertaining and talented singing waitstaff can be a bonus. Bummer that this place is more of a mind-controlled, clumsy place, but you get what you pay for. You could just do a picnic, which is amazingly romantic. Wonderful location, perfect time, privacy. You just need to pack the perfect meal. Preferably one not assembled by an evil genius, but you be you boo. Dancing. The hallmark of a sophisticated and educated individua. The movement and swaying in tune with music is sure to increase the attraction and love between two partners. And if you cannot dance, fake it or go over the top. If they are embarrassed by your shenanigans, you were too good for them. It is possible to fail at sealing the deal with your date. If this occurs, try your best not to land in court or the front page of a newspaper. This is embarrassing, and also pretty funny to your friends. Trust me, they are laughing at you. Getting a pet can be seen as a romantic gesture. Getting a giant monster can be seen as threatening and could lead to a lawsuit (see above). She's putting Lucy's Hanukkah lights on the tree because she thinks it would be fun, but Lucy doesn't want that and doesn't want her help! Sylvie clarifies she wasn't hitting on Cole, and it's clear that Cole is into her.The next day, Sylvie is talking to Lucy's daughter, Annie, sharing stories of her adventures. She asks Annie about this boy, Max, that she likes. Sylvie says that sometimes boys just need a little nudge.A health inspector comes to Lucy's bakery and tells her that she has until the end of the year to widen the hallway. She's going to have to call Cole! Bummer.Sylvie finds a secret door. Inside is a joy box full of wild clothes. She tells Annie she should wear some of these wild clothes and a super cool menorah. Apparently, Joy was their mom. She finds a recipe for Joy Bars and runs down to tell Lucy she has to make them to sell at the bakery!Lucy is reluctant, but Sylvie insists these bars will sell! And while we're at it, we need to make this place more festive!When Lucy sees that Annie is wearing Joy's clothes, she's not happy. But after talking to Sylvie and seeing how happy Annie is to be learning more about her Nana, she lets it go.Sylvie and Annie decorate the bakery and even bring in a 70s jukebox.Lucy is feeling inspired and finally asks Cole out on a date, and Sylvie helps her get ready.While out on the date, Lucy opens up about how she and Sylvie haven't been that close since their mom died. It's going great, but she ends up putting on the lip plumper that Sylvie gives her, and she has an allergic reaction.The next day, Lucy walks into her bakery to see that Sylvie used all the bakery's inventory for Joy Bars, which are very different from anything else in the healthy bakery.It's the night of the big festival, and Annie decides to be more like Sylvie and kisses Max on the cheek in a selfie. Max is like, "WTF?" and Annie runs away.Lucy goes to find her, and Sylvie hands out all the Joy Bars for free. Lucy ends up yelling at Sylvie.Sylvie decides it's best if she leaves, even though there's a bad storm. The power goes out, and while she's talking to Annie and lighting the menorah, she realizes she made a mistake and has to go find Sylvie—just as the doors blow open with the wind... aka Joy, the ghost.

If you were able to read part one, you know Louise, Fran's close Christian friend at work, just lost a new account, and it's become obvious she lost it because of her strong Christian principles. Fran had more trouble accepting this than Louise, but after talking to Jesus, she realized this was not a fight that can be undertaken with the weapons of the world. Rather, it must be fought with prayer. Now, this Saturday morning, Fran is thinking of what special thing she can do for Louise to make up for this disappointment, and she gets an idea. She calls Louise and says, "Hey, if you're not busy tonight, why don't you come over. We can watch a good movie or something—the kids want to see Toy Story 2 again—and I'll cook spaghetti. We can have our own private party, to celebrate the victory that God has given you and the good he's going to bring out of this bad situation!" "Hey, Fran," Louise says, "you're so kind to think of that, but did you forget? We promised Claire and Maritza we'd have dinner with them and catch a movie.” "Oh, right," Fran says, "I did forget. Bummer! I better make sure Mom can watch the kids tonight. Thanks for reminding me." Louise says, "Well, Claire and Maritza are new at church, and we need to get to know them better." So, Fran gets busy with all her Saturday chores and errands before it's time to go out. They meet Claire and Maritza at a nice little Italian restaurant and enjoy some good pasta. "Hey, what movie do you want to see?" Louise asks. They discuss two or three and Claire suggests one that is rated R. “You know,” Fran says, “I just have a rule for myself that I don't see R rated movies. But I know there is one rated PG-13 at the Plaza that sounds kinda cute. That okay with you guys?” Everyone agrees it sounds okay. Claire says, “You mean, you never go to an R rated movie? But some of them are really good.” “Well, the acting may be good and things like that, but I just don't want to fill up my mind with scenes of violence or sex or inappropriate language or lifestyles. You know, what you see with your eyes has a stronger impact on you than anything else,” Fran responds. It's obvious this is a whole new thought for Claire, and they talk about it a bit more. Louise joins in to say she has learned to be very selective about the movies she watches at home, in the theater, Netflix—whatever. “I've discovered once I see those images, they are very difficult to get out of my head. In fact, when they started invading my prayer time, that's when I knew I had to be more selective in what I watched.” As they wait in line for tickets, Louise says to Fran on the side, "I wonder about this movie, don't you, Louise? What if it's no good?" "We'll leave," Fran says quietly. "You mean, just leave Claire and Maritza?" Louise says, somewhat concerned. "We don't watch junk, right, Louise," Fran says as they go into the theater. They get settled into their seats with their popcorn, looking forward to a lighthearted funny movie. About ten minutes into the movie, Fran begins to feel nervous. This is not the wholesome movie it is advertised to be. "I'll take care of that, Fran, don't worry," she says, and with that she whispers something to Claire then motions to Fran to head out of the theater. As they get to the lobby, Fran asks “What did you tell Claire?" "I just said we were uncomfortable with the movie, and we'd meet them right outside the lobby when it's over. C'mon, let's go get a cup of coffee."

A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. - Mark Twain   DEATH   Lisa Rotgrak is the author of a book called Death Warmed Over, a combination cookbook and sociological study of funeral meals and rituals. She starts it with the story of a man dying at home in bed. He could smell the aroma of chocolate chip cookies--his favorite--baking downstairs. He wanted one more cookie before he died.   He dragged his body out of bed, rolled down the stairs, crawled into the kitchen, and reached out a trembling arm to grasp one final cookie, when he felt the sting of a spatula smack his hand. "Put that back," his wife said. "They're for the funeral."   The rich fool had many cookies, and he thought they were all for him. "This is what I'll do," says the rich fool. "I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods."   One more barn. One more crop. One more cookie. Then one night out comes the spatula. "Whack." "They don't belong to you. They're for the funeral."   Ask not for whom the spatula whacks. We have eternal life to look forward to; if we didn't, life would be meaningless     No one escapes death… A driver, who crashed into the side of a 3000-ton wheat train and was dragged in his car more than a kilometer before being slammed into a pylon at the edge of a cliff, fell to his death as he walked for help.  The Queensland, Australia man, 63, and his female companion, 64, were driving along the Newell Highway near Moree, in Northwestern New South Wales, on Wednesday night, police said.  Their car crashed into the side of a fully laden, 600-meter long train at a level crossing. (I guess that would be harder to miss than the side of a barn!) The vehicle became wedged between the second last and last carriages and was dragged sideways beside the track as the train continued towards Moree, a police spokeswoman said.  After being carried more than a kilometer and a half they approached an unfenced bridge with a 10-meter drop, the spokeswoman said. Moments before they reached the precipice, the car was struck by a pylon, dislodged from the train and spun several times. When it came to rest, the pair managed to free themselves from the wreck (I wonder if it was a Volvo?) with minor bruising and the man set off along the railway line for help. But he slipped on the bridge and fell to his death, the spokeswoman said.  The woman was eventually able to raise the alarm and was recovering in Moree hospital with chest injuries.   Are you ready to die… I am, I can't wait…  Jim Elliot (slain missionary) "When the time comes to die, make sure that all you have to do is die!"
