Send us a textAlright everyone, it's time for yet another theme and this time it's "Eyes Wide Open". This theme will deal with films where characters experience eye-opening moments, whether through shocking revelations or sudden enlightenment.Peeling back the eyelids first, with the shake-up of "must have a narrator" (pretty self explanatory) is The Usual Suspects, the 1995 action/drama/thriller/etc directed by Bryan Singer and starring Kevin Spacey, Benicio Del Toro, Stephen Baldwin, Gabriel Byrne, Chazz Palminteri and Kevin Pollak. We follow the tale of the sole survivor of a pier shoot-out who tells the story of how a notorious criminal influenced the events that began with five criminals meeting in a seemingly random police lineup.Of course in addition to our feature presentation we do a deep dive into daylight savings time, pick who would narrate our lives and Matt discusses his experience with invasive procedures.

Last week was Valentine's Day and as I ran errands I saw so many emotions about this holiday. At one store I saw people sending beautifully packaged gifts to their loved ones and at another I heard someone complaining about how much they hate the day and find it stressful or depressing. These conversations led to a fun realization that many things like Valentine's Day are just social constructs, things we attach emotions to for better or for worse. This got me thinking: What else in life do we accept as given when in reality we have the power to redefine our experience? In this episode we explore how social agreements like holidays and traditions affect our emotions, and how our personal experiences shape our perception of certain events. We'll talk about how to reclaim control over expectations and create meaning that aligns with our values. I'll also share a new way to celebrate love not just on Valentine's Day, but everyday and give you questions to help you examine what's really important in your life. Join me on this Wise Walk as we talk about societal expectations and how we can choose to shape our own reality. As you reflect on Valentine's Day, what emotions surface? Are they highs, lows, or somewhere in between? Does your experience change year to year based on what's happening in your life? Why do you think this holiday affects your energy so strongly? How does the idea of love and caring influence your feelings about this holiday? Where are you giving your power away? What do you want to do about it? How do you want to design this day in your life? How can you take it one step further and apply this beyond Valentine's Day? How are you designing your daily life around constructs that influence your energy? Can you recognize how these agreements shape your emotions? Can you shift them in a way that better serves you? Can you make strategic decisions to create a different experience for yourself? What feelings surface for you, and what choices or actions can you take to shift your energy? What areas of your life do you want to explore to determine what is made up and what is truly serving you? What can you start to examine and peel back to understand what is real? What is rooted in an agreement you made that you still want to honor? What is rooted in an agreement that no longer aligns with you? What steps can you take to change what no longer serves you? Where can you get curious about the belief systems or constructs shaping your life? How can you use them to your benefit so they align with you? How can you let go of what no longer serves you? I'm so grateful you join me on these Wise Walks each week. So whether it's Valentine's Day, a Valentine's year, or even a Valentine's decade, let's celebrate love, appreciation, and self-love in whatever way feels right to you. I hope this episode gave you a fresh perspective and the freedom to create your own rules, or let go of the ones that no longer bring you joy. Stay curious, stay true to yourself, and I'll see you on our next Wise Walk. In this episode: [04:03] As I reflect back, I realize there's a lot of pressure around this holiday. I feel differently about it now that I'm single. [05:15] My friend had a similar experience. Acknowledging people with a loving heart centered connection makes them light up. [06:58] I was thinking of ways to practice self love and self care on Valentine's Day and make up my own rules. [07:19] I was even thinking about getting my taxes done as a way to practice self-love. [09:15] What is real? So much is rooted in agreement as made up rules. [10:50] In my conversations with Paul Cuneo, I'm exploring what is made up, what is true, and what is coded. [13:56] Peeling back names and labels of religions out there, you realize a lot of the belief systems are more similar than not, but coded language creates differences, which are not necessarily true and real. [14:27] We're all entitled to our individual experiences. [15:11] Deadlines are made up. Often we need them in order to get things done. Memorable Quotes: “Valentine's Day is every day. I don't need a holiday to mark loving and caring and nurturing.” - Mary Tess “You are completely entitled to your individual experience. I am entitled to my individual experience.” - Mary Tess “There are so many things that are made up in this lifetime, like truly made up. There are made up constructs. There are made up holidays. And we attach emotions to them.” - Mary Tess Links and Resources: Mary Tess Rooney Email Facebook | LinkedIn | Twitter | Instagram Heart Value Paul Cuneo: https://www.linkedin.com/in/paul-cuneo PaulWrites.media

But as you play more, you'll realize the sport's complexity. It's a puzzle that challenges you, both as a player and as a person, and that's what keeps us coming back. Think of pickleball as an onion, used for many purposes, it's delicious, complex, deep, but can also lead to crying. The onion layers represent various aspects of the sport and personal growth, and each layer you peel back reveals another, deeper layer.Let's explore how this analogy can help you engage with the game more effectively and avoid frustration;i) In Play: Concentrate on specific skills and mastering the current layer of your game during play. This helps you avoid being overwhelmed by every aspect of the game at once.ii) In Improvement: Understand that you can't skip layers, master the basics before moving to more complex strategies. All that requires patience. Work on your current skills and trust that you'll get to those layers in time.iii) In Personal Development and Objective Progress: Recognize that there are layers you can't see yet. This awareness helps you stay positive and motivated, knowing that with time and effort, you'll uncover new aspects of the game. Continually peel back layers of understanding about yourself, your mindset, and how you interact for personal growth.Be part of our email list; https://betterpickleball.com/See you on the next episode!

Henry Christophe was born to an enslaved mother on the Caribbean island of Grenada, and fought to overthrow the British in North America before helping his fellow enslaved Africans in Saint-Domingue—as Haiti was then called—to end slavery. He rose to power and became their king. In his time, he was popular and famous the world over. So how did he become an enigma? In The First and Last King of Haiti: The Rise and Fall of Henry Christophe, Dr. Marlene L. Daut reclaims the life story of this controversial revolutionary and only king of Haiti, drawing from a trove of previously overlooked sources to paint a captivating history of his life and the awe-inspiring kingdom he built. Peeling back the layers of myth and misconception reveals a man driven by both noble ideals and profound flaws, as unforgettable as he is enigmatic. More than just a biography, The First and Last King of Haiti is an exploration of power, ambition, and the human spirit. From his pivotal role in the Haitian Revolution to his coronation as king and eventual demise, this book is testament to the enduring allure of those who dare to defy the odds and shape the course of nations. The First and Last King of Haiti is a story of not only geopolitical clashes on a grand scale but also of friendship and loyalty, treachery and betrayal, heroism and strife in an era of revolutionary upheaval. Slave, revolutionary, traitor, king, and suicide, Henry Christophe was, in his time, popular and famous the world over. Born in 1767 to an enslaved mother on the Caribbean island of Grenada, Christophe first fought to overthrow the British in North America, before helping his fellow enslaved Africans in Saint-Domingue, as Haiti was then called, to gain their freedom from France. Yet in an incredible twist of fate, Christophe ended up fighting with Napoleon's forces against the very enslaved men and women he had once fought alongside. Later, euniteng with those he had betrayed, he offered to lead them and made himself their king. But it all came to a sudden and tragic end when Christophe—after nine years of his rule as King Henry I—shot himself in the heart, some say with a silver bullet. Why did Christophe turn his back on Toussaint Louverture and the very revolution with which his name is so indelibly associated? How did it come to pass that Christophe found himself accused of participating in the plot to assassinate Haiti's first ruler, Dessalines? What caused Haiti to eventually split into two countries, one ruled by Christophe in the north, who made himself king, the other led by President Pétion in the south? The First and Last King of Haiti is a riveting story of not only geopolitical clashes on a grand scale but also of friendship and loyalty, treachery and betrayal, heroism and strife in an era of revolutionary upheaval. Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour
The Shabbat prohibition of Borer forbids separating undesirable food from desirable food on Shabbat, except under certain conditions. The Poskim addressed the question of whether this prohibition would apply to removing the inedible peel that surrounds a vegetable or fruit. Would one be allowed, for example, to peel an onion, or a clove of garlic, on Shabbat? On the one hand, peeling entails removing the undesirable substance (the peel) from the desirable substance (the onion), and this situation would thus seemingly qualify as a case of Borer. Peeling would then be permissible only under the conditions that apply to Borer generally. Conversely, however, one might argue that peeling does not constitute Borer because the two substances are not mixed. Borer means separating undesirable food from desirable food in a mixture. In the case of an onion, however, the peel simply covers the edible food, and does not combine with it to form a mixture. One might therefore argue that the Halacha of Borer should not apply to peeling fruits and vegetables. This issue is subject to a debate among the Halachic authorities. The work Tal Orot held that Borer does not apply to peeling, and one may therefore peel fruits and vegetables on Shabbat without any restrictions. Most other authorities, however, disagree, and held that peeling indeed constitutes Borer, because the peel is attached to the edible food and they are thus considered a "mixture" of sorts. These authorities allow peeling on Shabbat only "Samuch La'achila," just prior to eating the food item or prior to the meal at which it is served. One may not, however, peel an onion in the morning in preparation for Se'uda Shelishit later that afternoon. Since, according to this view, the restrictions of Borer apply to peeling, it is allowed only just prior to the meal. This is the ruling codified by the Rama (Rabbi Moshe Isserles, Poland, 1525-1572) in Siman 321, and is the position taken as well by Rabbi Moshe Halevi (Israel, 1961-2001) in his work Menuhat Ahaba. The exception to this rule is situations where some pieces of fruit are invariably removed along with the peel. When one peels a mango, for example, small pieces of mango come off together with the peel. This occurs as well when one peels certain kinds of melon. In these cases, peeling would not constitute Borer, since one is considered separating desirable food from other desirable food, rather than undesirable food from desirable food. Therefore, it would be permissible to peel a mango or certain kinds of melon on Shabbat morning for a fruit salad to be served later in the day. This would not apply to common fruits such as oranges and bananas, where the peel separates cleanly from the fruit, without any pieces attached. One may peel an orange or banana on Shabbat only just prior to the meal, but not in preparation for later in the day. Summary: It is forbidden to peel an onion, garlic or fruits on Shabbat unless he does so just prior to the meal in which it will be eaten. The exception to this rule is fruits such as mango and certain melons, where pieces of fruit invariably come off together with the peel; these fruits may be peeled even in preparation for later in the day.

Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Anonymous: Hi Dr C! Listening to you daily and love all you do! Trying to navigate some hormonal and aging changes specifically hair thinning. I've experienced some thinning of the hair over the years but am really seeing it thin out over the past 6 months. I am in my early 50's on your estrogen support as well as taking HRT prescribed by my gynecologist. I have always been fairly healthy through the years: always exercised daily (have brought it down some since I feel like I was too inflamed from cortisol build up). Had gained some weight, followed your program of a 7 day detox for the first time in May and a second time in Sept. Have been taking your Metavolve and I lost the 10 lbs I needed to lose.. I get good sleep, work daily, not really too stressed in life, wanted to get your input Al: Hello Dr.Cabral. I have lot of trust in your opinion and would like to ask about magnesium l-threonate. I've been reading about its benefits regarding cognitive function, Alzheimer's, as well as improving sleep quality. Is this form of magnesium better for above mentioned? Are you considering creating another product like that? My second question is about acne. My partner has deep acne, not inflamed, just tiny hard bumps on temples and forehead. She had elevated Candida, but no parasites and had gone through CBO, which resolved her gut issues, but didn't improve acne. She also has endometriosis, which she just started working on. Would you suggest coffee peeling? I've red that it works very well. Thank you. Anonymous: Hello Dr. Cabral! I'm an IHP2. I have a 28 year old, female client with autoimmune issues, on SSRIs, thyroid meds, and zyrtec. She completed a 21 day detox and then moved on to the CBO protocol. When she began the CBO protocol, she got "pruney" fingers. She is now on week 10 and still has the "pruney" fingers. Any idea on what's causing this and how to address it? Anonymous: Hello Dr. Cabral! I'm an IHP2. I have a 28 year old, female client with autoimmune issues, on SSRIs, thyroid meds, and zyrtec. She just started (at week 10) waking up jittery with a racing heart rate and emotions have been all over the place - feeling irritable and weepy. She has been working very closely with her medical doctor and watching blood work. She recently retested thyroid numbers, but still awaiting results. She has stopped the protocol and supplements (mag, adr soothe, histpro) and slowly restarted - no changes. Any advice on how to help her? Thank you! Lisa: Hello, We are looking to move to an area where there are a lot of soy and corn farms. Would you be worried about living very close to corn and soy fields? If so, how far would you try to live from the fields? Or what precautions would you take? Thanks! Welcome Claire Marie! Today, I'm welcoming former guest Claire Marie back to the podcast. Claire Marie is raising 3 boys with her Irish husband in Ireland. However, Claire Marie is French and today she's sharing her very special memories of celebrating Christmases in the French Countryside as a very large, very Catholic, and not very wealthy family of 10. In addition to their private Christmas traditions, Claire Marie shares about the massive Christmas dinners in her grandmother's home, where she would visit with over 100 cousins – and where she watched her grandmother make a very special chocolate chestnut cake. This is an utterly delightful and charming episode full of smiles and great memories and some wisdom as well. Thanks for tuning in and Merry Christmas - Joyeux Noël! Claire Marie Thanks in a while. Becky Uhm, remind everyone what region of France you grew up in?. Claire Marie So I moved a lot, but I always say I from the Loire Valley, so it's not necessarily the place most people know, like the South of France, but it's definitely a place people should know about. It's also the Valley of the Kings and every time I go back there's more to see that I haven't had time to see. It so very very French. Like in really, the sense of France is there. And so that's just the Loire Valley. It's kind of in the middle... France is is big but not as big as the US, but big enough for a European country. And so yeah, people don't necessarily know where. Becky It is, and it's one of the most picturesque, picturesque parts of France? Claire Marie Oh yes. Yeah, and it has the perfect climate or weather. And yeah, like it's cold in the winter, but it's warm in the summer and you always have like a nice fresh air. It's really really nice and I do love going back every summer. Becky So, paint us a picture. You said the weather was cold - it would be maybe snow? Paint us a picture of what it was like in December or at Christmas time in the Loire Valley or the Valley of the Kings? Claire Marie Huh, uhm, so it can go down like it's very cold. It is, I guess, all a matter of in relation to other countries, but like you definitely definitely have your gloves on and hats on and you would be hoping for the snow because we're quite far, we are very far from the mountains, so snow is never given and it would be like a rare treat if it snows right around Christmas. Like you, you know, you'd have probably couple of days of snow, but it could be anytime during the winter so I don't actually remember a white Christmas. Becky Never a white Christmas.
