Gio is getting a little nervous about speaking at Tuesday night's Navy Gala Fundraising Evening, to support the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Navy SEAL Museum and Naval Sea Cadet Training Facility, but after a pep talk from Boomer it sounds like he'll be just fine, Al Dukes is still dealing with rug burns after being steamrolled by Gio last a couple of weeks ago, Gio has to remind his radio partner that he is trying to do a radio show, some birthday giggles, Stu Feiner makes his presence felt, Joey Gallo went deep in a Yankees win, which Jerry covered like a blanket during his update effort, the Mets lose, plenty of NFL news and does one bad apple spoil the whole damn bunch?!?!? All that and much more awaits you... See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The last weekend of preseason football means the games that count are right around the corner, Boomer just hopes that the Mets can somehow play their way back into relevancy, Gio uses a little reversed psychology, Navy SEAL Michael P. Murphy was a true American hero, Peter Schwartz gets some more gifts, then shares a Mark Chernoff story before delivering his abbreviated update, Gio feels the need to explain that while looking for 'swingers' he was not actually looking to do any 'swinging', the all important year three for an NFL quarterback and distracted by Larry King. Michael P. Murphy, United States Navy, who passed away serving the United States in Afghanistan in 2005. The workout consists of a 1 mile run followed by 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, followed by another 1 mile run. Learn more about how Lee pushed himself through the challenge, and how he uses physical challenges to sharpen his mindset! When Lee isn't pushing himself to the brink physically, he's giving back in his community. Following completion of the Murph challenge in 2020, he created a program through his gym, Rhapsody Fitness, called Sweat n' Serve. A program that remains alive today, even while Lee is away serving in the United States Army. Everywhere that Lee goes, he makes it a goal to serve his community, perhaps the coolest thing about him besides being an absolute stud physically! Lt. Michael Murphy recurved the Medal of Honor posthumously for his actions in Afghanistan. His story is written in Lone Survivor, a book by his best friend, Marcus Luttrell
Back in March of 2014, Sean Spoonts wrote an excellent article for SOFREP that gained a great deal of traction titled, "Alright, Goodnight - Does Malaysia Want to Know What Happened to Flight MH-370?" As some of you may remember, a great deal of conspiracy theory immediately surrounded what happened to that infamous flight, and it has not gone away due to the lack of any sufficient evidence that we can draw much of a conclusion from. For example, Fox News contributor and former Air Force Lieutenant General Thomas McInerney, who has a history of making outrageous claims, spoke of the plane likely landing in Pakistan with nothing to back up that assertion. The great mystery of where this plane was, sparked the idea for Sean to get together with two experts and refute some of the speculation out there using facts. To this day, the piece holds up. Fast forward to now, the Malaysian government plans to release a new report on the flight this coming Monday. With good reason, Sean is skeptical. So, since Sean was in town to work on some upcoming promotion for Brandon Webb's next book "Mastering Fear," I got him in studio to lay out all of the facts. For those unfamiliar, Sean's been a friend of the site since it's very inception, and his military background is with the Navy as an anti-submarine warfare operator and search and rescue Aircrewman. Sean and I also talk some current events, which includes the disgraceful destruction of a memorial to fallen Navy SEAL Michael Murphy on Long Island, New York. SOFREP is holding a raffle to benefit the Lt Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation due to this. We hope that you partake, and in the process possibly win some kick ass gear from Crate Club. Learn more about your ad-choices at https://news.iheart.com/podcast-advertisers
This week is all about MURPH. We are publishing early because we know a lot of people will be doing the workout on Monday. We get into the weeds with MURPH. Some of the myths, how to prepare and executing the workout. If you are doing MURPH this weekend or anytime definitely check this one out. Who better to give MURPH advice than from the guy who did it every saturday for a year?? LT. Michael P. Murphy (SEAL) was the officer-in-charge of a four-man SEAL element in support of Operation Red Wings, tasked with finding a key anti-coalition militia commander near Asadabad, Afghanistan. A fierce gun battle ensued on the steep face of the mountain between the SEALs and a much larger enemy force. Moving away from the protective mountain rocks, he knowingly exposed himself to increased enemy gunfire to radio his position to SOF Quick Reaction Forces. Though injured, LT. Murphy fought on, allowing one member of his team (Marcus Luttrell) to escape, before he was killed. For his selfless actions, LT. Michael Murphy was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor on October 27, 2007. We honor his sacrifice and memory though The Murph Workout.

As a continuation of our "Better Men Than Us" series, we share a recording of Marcus Luttrell speaking on Operation Redwing. On June 28, 2005, Luttrell and SEAL Team 10 were assigned to a mission to kill or capture Ahmad Shah, a high-ranking Taliban leader responsible for killings in eastern Afghanistan and the Hindu-Kush mountains. The SEAL team was made up of Michael P. Murphy (team leader), Marcus Luttrell, Danny Dietz (communications) and Matthew Axelson (sniper). Maybe you have read the book or maybe you have seen the movie but there is nothing like hearing it from the man himself. Show-notes can be found at Wastedammo.com/104
Captain Duncan Smith joined Ryan in the studio to tell him the story of Michael P. Murphy a US Navy Seal who received a medal of honour and had a US Navy shipped named after him.
When Matt from Blackfive joins us for Someone You Should Know every weekend, he often get his information from small town newspapers and military sources like Stars & Stripes and Army Times. We often criticize the MSM for not telling these stories, so finally, we have an opportunity to say “job well done” to the Washington Post. Tonight Matt told us about three special men, Lt. Michael P. Murphy, Navy SEAL Petty Officer 2nd Class Matthew G. Axelson and Petty Officer 2nd Class Danny P. Dietz. The Washington Post told their story earlier this week, 2 SEALs Receive Navy Cross Pair Died Fighting Taliban in Afghanistan The perilous firefight erupted at 10,000 feet in some of the world’s most rugged terrain along Afghanistan’s border with Pakistan, when the SEAL team probed deep into enemy territory on a clandestine mission to kill or capture a Taliban militia leader. By nightfall that day, three of the SEALs lay dead, along with eight other SEALs and eight Army Special Operations aviators whose MH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed during a daring rescue attempt. It was the worst death toll in a single day since the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001, and the biggest single loss of life for the Naval Special Warfare forces since the invasion of Normandy in World War II, the Navy reported.
