Yes if you workout you likely are able to eat more freely. But, that creates a very unhealthy thought pattern in your brain. Exercise should be something you do. It is making your body healthy, stronger and it will perform better for you long term. It also just happens to burn calories but that is not WHY we do it.

She just finished up her bachelors degree in Animal Science last year, and is now working as a paralegal as she prepares to go to law school. Sara started playing basketball at the age of 3! Growing up, she played sports all year round. In high school, one of her coaches introduced her to Crossfit workouts, which she loved, especially compared to the general conditioning and running she had been doing during her off-season.  However, when she moved to College Station to start school, exercise was the last thing on her mind. It wasn't until she went home for the summer in between her junior and senior year and joined a local Crossfit gym that she found her love for working out again.  Sara talks about how difficult it can be to find the balance between wanting to eat healthy and having a social life. She shares her tips on how she has overcome this struggle and how she can eat healthy AND enjoy time with friends and family. Enjoy!

ANB is a unique company—in addition to taking care of their employees in terms of professional development, they are also taking care of them physically by ensuring that health and fitness is part of their day-to-day life. Manny used to be a member of a commercial gym, but one month when reviewing his gym billing to submit to his company for reimbursement, he noticed he had ZERO checkins in the past month. That was eye-opening for him and he knew he needed something different. Now, he enjoys completing the CrossFit workouts with his co-workers and talking all things Crossfit while at the office, too. Junk food and sodas have been replaced in the lunch room with healthier options, and this has really shaped their branch into a stronger community. Manny is also a great example of how something is better than nothing. You don't have to start your fitness journey going to the gym 7 days a week and going hardcore on your nutrition. He is only able to come to the gym three days a week, but in the 2.5 months of working out at Boomfit, he has gained 7.4 pounds of muscle and lost 3 pounds of fat! Manny also shares some of the other ways being healthier impacts the work environment. If you'd like your boss to invest more in your physical health, make sure to share this episode. Meet David King. He is 67 years old. David went to school here at Texas A&M, class of 1976. After moving around a bit, David settled back here in Bryan-College Station and has now since retired here.   David joined BoomFit right after Christmas—he received a gift certificate to the gym from his wife. He was really nervous about starting; he even prayed over it. He completed a 6-week challenge with Coach Stephanie and has loved it ever since!  David used to workout frequently, but got out of shape over the years. He had fears of starting the process of getting back into shape because of the pain — something many of us can relate to! Now he gets to work out with his wife every morning—they even workout next to each other. Talk about couple goals! Learn how David was able to over come these fears and get back into great shape, all while having fun doing it!

Meet Jennifer. She is 36 and has been working out with Bennett for the past 10 months.   Jennifer came to us wanting to put on muscle. That's right—here at Boomfit, weight loss isn't the only thing we focus on. Muscle building may seem scary—but its exactly what can help you get the toned and muscular body you've been seeking.    Weight hasn't been an issue for Jennifer, but she really wanted to put on muscle. Enter Bennett. Bennett has helped her go from 114 pounds to 120—thats six solid pounds of muscle that she has been able to put on since starting a consistent weightlifting program.    In fact, Jennifer tries not to focus on the scale. The number is not the goal. Jennifer works out and is happy with her progress because she feels better. She is able to do things she used to not be able to do.    This is a great podcast to listen to if the scale has been messing with your head lately. The number on the scale doesn't have to be the only indicator you focus on during your weight loss or weight gain journey!

Building Systems to Support Healthy Habits

On this month's edition of Coaches' Education, Stephanie is here to talk to Charlie about something important, and something we could all use a little work on. Sure, we all know those healthy habits that we should be implementing that will help make us the best versions of ourself. But, the question is, are we setting ourselves up for success?    Stephanie shares how we can make healthy habits become easier for us by implementing systems in our daily lives that make these choices the easy ones to make. Rather than reaching for a bag of chips, how much easier would it be for us to grab some fruits or veggies if we already had those items cut up and displayed in our fridge where we easily see them and can grab them? This is just one example that she will discuss in this week's episode.   Give it a listen if you have been struggling to make those healthier habits stick in your life.

This month's 10 minute pep talk Charlie hits us with the hard truth: Some times people are not achieving the results they want because they are not doing everything they should be to reach their goals.    As Dave Ramsey puts it, “You are the problem….but the good news is that YOU are the problem because YOU can fix YOU.”   “I can't work out because I'm traveling.”   “I can't eat healthy because there were not healthy food choices available.”   “I have too many social events coming up to try and diet right now”.   Sound familiar? It's time to start taking personal responsibility. Today is not about making you feel bad. It's about motivating you to take ownership, and make your health a priority. Give this one a listen and save it for the future because its going to motivate you to start putting in the work you can control to reach your goals.

Meet Randy. Randy is 54 and grew up here in College Station and played soccer and ran track in high school. Fitness has always been important to him, especially when his kids were younger and they wanted him to keep up with him. Randy loves being a member of both Boomfit and Amarillo National Bank--to him, walking in to either is like walking in to your house to see your family.  Prior to joining Boomfit, he had never worked on his core or did legs, and he quickly realized how weak he had gotten doing his normal fitness routine. After meeting with his coach who helped him set some goals for inside and outside the gym, Randy is now motivated to meet those goals and is excited to improve both his fitness and his eating habits. Listen in to hear how he has realized the importance of nutrition in meeting your fitness goals.

Meet Manny— he is 36 and is part of the Amarillo National Bank (ANB) crew that has been working out with Boomfit for a few months now. Its a good one!

Meet Karen. She is 75 years young and has been an active member of our gym for a few months now.  Growing up in Chicago where there was mass transit, walking everywhere - to the store, to church, to school, etc. - was just part of the culture. Activity was just a way of life. You went outside when it was day light and you came back in when it got dark. Exercise, outside of her regular lifestyle, didn't become a focus until after college when she was living by herself and just needed something to do other than going to work and coming home.  Karen has kept up with her activity levels throughout her life, including doing tae kwon do with all 4 of her grandchildren. Karen is a great example of how continuing to move and be active throughout your life can lead to so many wonderful things. Listen in to hear all the things she is able to do because she stays active. If you need a reason to start an active lifestyle, give this podcast a listen. Karen is truly an inspiration!
