Fully Booked Without Burnout - The Business Of Massage And Wellness
Mindy Totten is a Massage Therapist, Cranial Sacral Therapist and Business Coach for Massage and Bodywork Therapists in the USA. This wasn't always the case. In fact her background is as an English Teacher and it was in a "previous life" when she was teaching in Singapore and became very sick that her career and life path started to change. The time her body wasn't responding to the typical Western medicines and protocols and whilst she is the first to admit she wanted to go to a Dr, be given a pill and then everything would be "fixed", her body and life had other ideas, so off on a more holistic journey she went. Throughout this journey Mindy was open to and experienced a lot. What we focus on during today's episode is how she came across Cranial Sacral Therapy and the profound impact it had on her life and still does today.
The ABMP Podcast | Speaking With the Massage & Bodywork Profession
In this episode of The ABMP Podcast, Kirstin and Darren speak with Mindy Totten about how an injury changed her course, why she gravitated toward craniosacral therapy, how massage therapists can make the leap to a solo practice, and why she decided to become a mentor to the massage therapy community. After 18+ years as a successful craniosacral therapist, it became Mindy Totten's mission to help other massage and bodywork therapists build profitable businesses so they could serve more people AND make a great living doing it. Through her private mentoring, group coaching programs, and as host of the Do It With Intention podcast, she's here to show bodyworkers how to build practices they love—without burning out or selling out. Her favorite accolade she's ever received is when one of her students called her “a humorous version of Yoda.” When she's not helping big-hearted therapists create their dream practices, you can find her taking long road trip adventures, hanging out with her remarkable redbone coonhound, George, or bingeing episodes of Outlander. Many of us choose the modality that we learned in our professional studies because we had a life-changing personal experience with that type of care. So we dive into starting a new career with the hope that we can help a lot of people… and then often find that starting and growing a business is a lot harder than we expected it to be. Unfortunately, at this point many people give up on their dreams and shut down their businesses. Instead, my guest Mindy Totten and I hope that this episode will help more people seek resources and support so they can go from surviving to thriving in their businesses.

When looking for the root causes of illnesses and even skin problems like acne, eczema or even psoriasis, you always want to look at one’s diet, gut health, what kinds of toxins they’re exposed to, and the root cause of all root causes - stress! You can avoid foods that cause inflammation, avoid using products with harmful ingredients, but when we need stress relief we typically head straight to the spa for a massage. #AmIright? But there’s other types of “body work” and in this episode, we’re going to learn about CranialSacral therapy. Joining me to teach us about it is, Mindy Totten, a CranialSacral therapist who’s been practicing for the past 15 years. In this episode, Mindy shares: How she went from being an English and Humanities teacher to becoming a CranialSacral therapist What is CranialSacral therapy and how its different from other types of bodywork. Who it’s best for, how does it work, how to find a CranialSacral therapist and what to expect at your first appointment. They say that the Riches are in the Niches...but how does this actually work? Today’s conversation with Mindy Totten will give you a really practical and robust answer to that question! Mindy is a bodywork therapist who specializes in Cranial Sacral Therapy...a very specific technique that she was introduced to years ago when she herself used it as a way to heal her own chronic pain. During this incredible conversation, Mindy shares about why she decided to niche down her practice - shifting from “offering everything” to becoming the go-to expert for Cranial Sacral Therapy. And, HOW she did it. She goes over very specific strategies she did in order to get her current clients on board and how she grew her practice from there. We also discuss the BIG QUESTIONS you can ask yourself that will help you become clear on where you should put your time and effort as you are on your own journey...so you know where and how to niche your own services and, ultimately, how to design the life you really want to live. LIFESTYLE DESIGN… Oh, girl, we talk about lifestyle design. Because what came for Mindy after specializing, was thinking about what she wanted her life to really look like (vs. just hustling to grow that specialty business). And the vision she saw after she asked herself one of those BIG QUESTIONS was… The Beach. So, she began organizing her work and her days so she could do hands on work 2 days out of the week and spend the other 5 at the beach. If you are hungry to feel real results in your business, and you’d like to stop doing everything to bring in money and instead, do just the work you LOVE...and make great money doing it, and… On top of that, you’d like to organize that work so you’re living a holistic life that YOU get to design...then this is the episode to listen to!
