Want to know a simple way to overcome low reception lighting? Purchase a speed light with a bounce card. It doesn't have to be the best! I love my speed light because it twists all the way around if I ever do want to put it on my camera and bounce the light off of something. The reason for that is when you're bouncing light, it's going to soften the light and spread it out, and give it a more natural appearance.
As photographers, we run our OWN businesses... and the most important part of a business is its clients! Without our clients, our businesses wouldn't exist - and the best way to attract more inquiries is to show living proof of previous quality experiences. In today's episode of Mistakes Make Magic, I'll be talking you through HOW to get those quality experiences that will expedite your client onboarding efforts and aid in gaining the trust of future potential purchasers! I'll be going over some things like: ⭐ Why it's so important to hone in on your craft ⭐ How to maintain excellent correspondence ⭐ How to set clear expectations for your clients ⭐ Why and how to connect with your clients on a personal level ⭐ How to handle situations when something goes wrong Thanks for listening and don't forget to subscribe!
If you don't already know, I LOVE to photograph weddings! Weddings are my focus as a photographer, and I have geared my business towards attracting and sustaining long-term relationships with clients who are looking for just that - a wedding photographer. Well, it wasn't always that way. When I was just beginning my photography career, I was attracting all kinds of clients for all kinds of sessions - graduation photos, family sessions, couples' portraits, you name it! Since then, I've determined a strategy to really focus in on and entice those brides and grooms-to-be that I wanted! In this episode of Mistakes Make Magic, I'll be going over many important steps in this process, including:
Are you unsure of what to wear to shoot your first wedding? Are you interested in hearing some tips that'll elevate your shooting experience at your next event? This episode is for you! At the beginning of my wedding photography career, I made plenty of wardrobe mistakes... now, 10+ years later, I've collected a set of guidelines, preferences, and brands that ensure a seamless (haha) wardrobe experience - that way I can focus on the photography! In this episode of Mistakes Make Magic, I'll be taking you through my wardrobe decision-making process. We'll be covering things like:
If you're anything like me, your favorite part about your business is doing the thing that you love - photography! However, as we all know, running a business involves more than just the favored parts... Over the years, I've tried out many different programs, websites, and softwares to help me with the back-end tasks of running my business , that way I can spend more of my time on that photography portion of the job that I love so much! In this episode of Mistakes Make Magic, I'll be sharing some of those findings with you (as well as some discounts and codes to help you out)! I'll be going through some of my FAVORITE tools and resources including:
Which Nikon lens should I buy? Which lens will benefit my wedding photography the most? What piece of equipment will give me the most bang for my buck? If you've recently asked yourself any of these questions, then this episode of Mistakes Make Magic is for you! The only thing harder than coming to a general purchasing decision after swimming through all of the options on the market is narrowing down that final list and deciding which lens is THE lens. In this episode, I'll be walking you through why I love my Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.8 S and f/1.2 S lenses and some of the pros and cons I've found through my firsthand experiences with both. We'll be talking:
Choosing the right camera can be such a daunting task, especially when there's such a large price tag attached! Recently, I decided to switch from my Nikon D3S to the newer Nikon Z6II for my wedding photography. Though both cameras definitely have their pros and cons, the pros of the Z6II really took the cake for me! In this episode of Mistakes Make Magic, I'll be going through those pros and cons and go into detail with some of my likes/dislikes of each. SO, whether you're looking to purchase your first camera or upgrade your fifth, I hope to provide you with a closer look into some important features and aspects to look for. In this episode, I'll be talking about some of my personal preferences when it comes to features and qualities, like: - Lens compatibility and quality; what gets you the most bang for your buck? - Size, weight, and portability - which is SO important when shooting 8,10, even 12 hours in one day! - Extra bells and whistles (like Bluetooth capabilities and electronic viewfinders) and if they're really worth it. Thanks for listening and I hope you enjoy!
Finding the right camera is hard enough... but what about finding the perfect lens? There's an endless catalog of photography gear out there and information overload is definitely real!! Trust me, I've been through it! BUT the great thing about that is, since I went through it you don't have to! I've been experimenting with gear for over 10 years and have learned through trial and error what works for the wedding photography business and what doesn't. So, if you're in the market for new gear or need a starting point for what features to look for in a lens, this episode of Mistakes Make Magic is for you! I'll be taking you through all of the reasons I use the Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 (and a few cons as well) and why I can't imagine shooting without it. I'll be talking through my opinions of important features like: focus speed: this camera is QUICK! performance in low light: I rarely even use a flash anymore price point: it's an investment... but a worthwhile one Thanks for listening and I hope you enjoy!
