On this podcast we discuss a serious topic that many people know few facts about. That topic is human trafficking – sexual trafficking and labor trafficking. The stats will shock you and disgust. It is a much more prevalent concern than most people realize. I saw a notice that Nancy Hartwell was available to be interviewed about human trafficking and it seemed like a unique topic, but I had no idea about the scope of the problem until I started doing some research for the show. Do you remember the story of the man in Cleveland Ohio that kept 3 young women hostage for years? That is just one of many stories throughout the country. I highly recommend people tune in to learn more and to be more aware of what's happening around us. I would bet the people on that street in Cleveland wish they had had any idea what was happening next door to them…
Guest, author and activist Nancy Hartwell, whose German friend was kidnapped by sex traffickers over 40 years ago, describes her grief and how she channeled it to tirelessly educate the public about this growing, worldwide threat. Three separate cases of parents who lost children to sex traffickers are reviewed, as well as how they coped with the death of their daughters. The corresponding show notes on the Facebook page "Domino Effect of Murder" provides many tips and resources adults can use to help keep kids safe and spot a child victim of this abhorrent "industry."

Globally, about 4.5 million people are tragically trapped in sex slave trafficking. For these people, the way out of modern slavery, may be as bleak as older forms of labor slavery. Victims of this horrific crime are estimated to be about 40.3 million. Among this number, are people did find their way out of sex slavery. It is this urgent topic that author Denise Turney, host of Off The Shelf Books Talk Radio, and Nancy Hartwell, author of the Harem Slave books, will sit down and talk about. Not only does Nancy Hartwell write books about sex slavery, she also speaks on this topic. She is determined to help free and keep free as many people as she can. In addition to discussing Nancy's personal motivation for taking on this topic (a topic that many overlook even as it happens right under our noses), Denise and Nancy will dig into the makings of Nancy's books "Voices from the Harem", "Prince Ibrahim's Favorite" and "Harem Slave". It is both women's hope that this Off The Shelf Books Talk Radio show will open the eyes of many, offering protections. After all, even Atlanta airports post signs alerting people, particularly women and young girls, to alert authorities if they are approached by someone suspicious and to be alert and aware of their surroundings, including the people sitting or standing nearby. In Atlanta alone, each year approximately 4,000 people become victim to sex slave trafficking. Catch this show!!! Somewhat coincidentally with this week's episode, I came across this article written by the late Alex Tizon, a Pullitzer prize winning journalist entitled “My Family's Slave”. In it, Tizon describes how his parents effectively kept a woman against her will to cook, clean and take care of his family. This falls squarely under the modern definition of slavery. This week, we delve into the topic of human trafficking and modern slavery. It is a topic that is sobering but important. It also mind-boggling to learn that that are some 25-30 million slaves currently in the world. My guest is Nancy Hartwell. Nancy is an American author, translator and playwright. She has written three books on human trafficking. Nancy first became fascinated and horrified with this topic several years ago whilst she was living in Cameroon (Nancy lived there for fourteen years and has worked and travelled extensively across the globe). This was prompted when an acquaintance of hers, a German woman in her early twenties, mysteriously disappeared. It was later revealed that she was sold into the sex trade in the Persian Gulf. Since then, Nancy has been collecting stories on human trafficking which she eventually turned into three books – two fiction and one non-fiction. She has also examined the various aspects of human trafficking in the modern world. In this conversation, we discuss: What human trafficking is; The scale and scope of the problem; The different forms of human trafficking and modern slavery; Why governments are not doing enough; Ways in which we can help combat the problem; How to protect our children and loved ones from human trafficking Show notes: Nancy's website: www.nancyhartwell.com Nancy's ecourse on human trafficking: http://www.nancyhartwell.com/ecourse.html Nancy on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/nancy.hartwell.71 Nancy on Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nancy-hartwell-2806318/ Nancy's books on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nancy-Hartwell-Enonchong/e/B00J20KGAI/ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_3?qid=1495408466&sr=8-3 The Madeleine McCann case: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disappearance_of_Madeleine_McCann US State Dept. Human Trafficking: Are they for trade? Did you know that human trafficking is a form of modern day slavery? Slavery has been around since the beginning of civilization and still persists across our world today. As a human rights issue, it is important to increase awareness as a starting point down the journey toward freedom for all.
Nancy Hartwell joins host Craig Price to discuss the horrors of human trafficking. Craig puts aside his goofiness to talk about a serious subject that many may not know is still going on. The two discuss what kinds of women are targeted, how they are coerced into bad situations and what it is like living the life of a sex slave. Nancy has gathered storied from over four decades of research and combined them into The Human Trafficking Series, a true-based fictional series of books that take an inside look at what victims of human trafficking really live through. Presented in a matter-of-fact, restrained tone, they describe the daily horrors of enslavement and how the people who find themselves in this unthinkable situation try to cope. You can learn more about Nancy and her works at http://www.NancyHartwell.com and her books are currently available on Amazon.com.
