Maggie Kelly is a mindful life coach, meditation instructor, podcaster, public speaker and awakener. After her son was born with cystic fibrosis, Maggie felt betrayed by her expectations of health for her son. Through meditation and mindfulness practices Maggie was able to turn introspectively to address her fear and dismiss her limiting beliefs. Despite what you may think, ultimately you are not in charge. It is only by giving in to this universal power and accepting that you cannot control everything that you can find true peace. Today Maggie is here to provide you with actionable steps so that you can illuminate the roadblocks inside of yourself that are standing in the way of living an envisioned and awakened life. By returning to the very foundational essence of who you are and what you are capable of, you can tune into what is around you and become at peace with the fact that nothing is permanent, both good or bad. Are you ready to take responsibility for your part in your betrayal and become okay with what happens when life doesn’t fit your perfect picture? Share your thoughts on Maggie’s story with us in the comments on the episode page. In This Episode How to make sense and meaning out of a betrayal of expectations and health The role of meditation when changing your way of being and creating a shift Getting comfortable with the idea that nothing is permanent or lasts forever Why it’s a good thing to question your thoughts and stop believing them as fact Investigating your role in your own betrayal by turning inward instead of outward Quotes “I think that it’s important when we are talking about betrayal and having a breakthrough from that experience or coming out of the grief of having been betrayed, I think it is important for us to stop and be a little mindful as to how did we get there.” (2:49) “I was living out constant and consistent never-ending fear, that that is what drove the show. The fear always drove the show and that’s when I started to really get in touch with what that fear was about.” (8:03) “Most of us believe what we think, and very seldom do we check it out with anybody.” (13:16) “What meditation is about is for you to be able to notice that in that stillness your thoughts start to stray and take you away. And then in that noticing, bringing yourself back to that place of stillness.” (19:23) “What’s really important when you are thinking that you have been betrayed is for you to actually step back and survey the situation and ask yourself what was my part.” (21:57) Links Sat Sang House Website Find the full episode post here: https://pbtinstitute.com/104 Do you have Post Betrayal Syndrome? Loneliness, isolation, a pile of virtual friends we hope will fill the void. Maggie Kelly discusses what she feels to be an epidemic of loneliness in our society. We need to be connected to be emotionally well. We need to have human interaction with one another to feel "ok." The loneliness and isolation we experience as a society these days also has mental and physical health repercussions - the equivalent of smoking 15 cigarettes each day. Spiritual, Life and Meditation Coach Maggie Kelly recommends meditation and mindfulness as a means to reconnect first to yourself and second, to one another. Put the phone down, talk to the guy next to you, to the grocery store clerk, to the woman on the bus. Disconnect to reconnect. www.maggiekelly.com

Maggie hit a wall about eleven years ago when she found herself completely and totally overwhelmed with the stress of raising kids and this nagging feeling underneath it all that there simply had to be more to life. It was certainly a conflict with the way she was living her life and wanting to be there for her kids but somewhere in the mix, she felt like a piece of her was missing. This internal conflict left her feeling anxious, frightened, on edge all the time, quick-tempered, and impatient, along with so very lonely, isolated, scared and alone. She truly felt as though she was living by her "to do list" basically just surviving each day. The struggle was tangible. She found meditation as a way for her to calm her mind (and stress!) and the never-ending thoughts that pervaded. She wasn't really sure how this ancient practice was going to help her rediscover herself or jump-start the next chapter of her life. She just knew she had to put my skepticism aside, trust the process, and at least give it a shot. Heck, what did she have to lose?

Maggie shares her recent personal experience about how she reacted instead of responded to a misunderstanding with a client. Her old way of being crept in - anger, righteousness, ego - basic humanness. But the trick was that she noticed, not in the moment which would have been great but instead after creating a reason to have to go back and apologize. This inspiring episode reminds us of our basic humanity and how the consistent practice and dedication to meditation and other self-improvement ideas can awaken us to our patterns of behavior in time to save relationships.
