We say farewell to National Weather Podcast Month and look forward to April and storm season. Speaking of storm season, its shaping up to be an interesting week weatherwise.
As we wrap up National Weather Podcast Month, we got together with our friends from Storm Front Freaks to host a special edition of B Squared: Your Weekly Weather Podcast. Thanks to Phil, Kim, and Mazz for joining us!
We wrap up National Weather Podcast Month today and look back at what as seemed to be a very quick month. With COVID-19 dominating the landscape, everything else seems to be pushed on the back burner. While the weather still goes on, we find ourselves debating topics such as should we still have tornado shelters open during that pandemic? Is it worth the risk? It's a new age when we have to think about this. Yesterday saw several long track tornados and the tornado that went through Jonesboro, AR was well documented. The spring storm season is here.
We're halfway thru National Weather Podcast Month and we throw out a crazy idea for our friends over at Storm Front Freaks. The Portland area finally got some snow and Bobby was excited for it. Strong and severe storms are forecasted this week and Bonnie is ready for the chase season to swing into full gear. We spend a majority of the show addressing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and how we need to make sure we are doing all we can for our health and those around us. We cannot let fear dictate our lives. It is okay to worry some, but that should make us be prepared to deal with any situation. Please make sure to wash your hands, sanitize surfaces, and practice good personal hygiene.
The Nashville tornadoes dominated the news this week. As the city and surrounding communities rebuild, the NWS Storm Survey teams have been out and early reports of EF-3's and an EF-4 twister are grabbing the headlines. The EF-3 that went through downtown Nashville was on the ground for 60 miles. The EF-4 was on the ground for 8 miles. Bonnie made an appearance on The Storm Front Freak Podcast and we continue into March with National Weather Podcast Month.

We wrap up February and look forward to National Weather Podcast Month coming up in March. Bonnie will join the guys from Storm Front Freaks March 6th for their 100th episode taping in Oklahoma City. Flooding is still effecting parts of the south while thunderstorms are forecasted over the panhandles of Texas and Oklahoma today.
On this episode of B Squared, we reflect back on the life of Kobe Bryant and how weather is likely to have played a key in the crash that claimed his life along with his daughter and seven other people aboard. We look at the winter season so far. While March is just a month away, we are getting ready for National Weather Podcast Month.
As we close out National Weather Podcast Month, Bonnie takes an in-depth look at the action words of weather; Advisory-Watch-Warning and we examine what those mean. We break down the Storm Prediction Center's risk categories and debate how effective all these products are. We pose the question "What makes you take action?"

In October of 2018, Super Typhoon Yutu, packing winds of 180 mph, slammed into Saipan, the largest island of the Northern Mariana Islands. And in it's wake, complete destruction. We talk with April Lipinski, who works with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. And she was in Saipan after the island and other parts of the commonwealth were left reeling from the devastating impacts of the storm. While April and her team were working to help the people of Saipan, there was an interesting rumor that came about... a rumor that there might be animals in need of help And with the help of several agencies and organizations, the gears were put in place to rescue these animals from Saipan. We also talk with Pat Craig, the executive director of the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, Colorado where Tasha and Lambert were taken after the storm. On episode 56 of WeatherHype, our second episode for 2019's National Weather Podcast Month, we talk with April and Pat about the recovery process for Saipan immediately after Super Typhoon Yutu. And share the story of Lambert the Lion and Tasha the Tiger, and their amazing journey from the middle of the Pacific to Colorado's Wild Animal Sanctuary, a 10,473 acre sanctuary for more than 500 rescued animals. Special thanks to Becky DePodwin from the podcast Ice Station Housman, for our Weather Ready Nation Spring Weather Safety Message. We take a look at the flooding taking place in the Midwest. Bonnie got a good taste of spring storms yesterday in Oklahoma City while Bobby in Oregon has gotten to enjoy some decent weather. National Weather Podcast Month continues and we look forward to this weeks forecast.
We continue talking about National Weather Podcast Month as we get into the second week of March. Storms fired up over the south this weekend while the Midwest and Great Lakes brace for a strong system taking shape mid week. Bonnie tried out her new anemometer and Bobby had some surprise snow on Friday.
Tonight's Guest WeatherBrain is Glenn "Hurricane" Schwartz, on-air broadcast meteorologist at WCAU-TV in Philadelphia, PA. In addition, also joining us from WCAU-TV is on-air broadcast meteorologist Steven Sosna. Gentleman, welcome to WeatherBrains! Welcome to the show, Joel!
The first tornado outbreak happened yesterday, claiming the lives of twenty three people. Bonnie and Bobby discuss the storms as we kick off National Weather Podcast Month. In our mission to help create a "Weather Ready Nation," this is a perfect example of why we all need to pay attention. We discuss the cold weather impacting most of the country and it finally snowed in Oregon...in bunches.
Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts all across the country have the opportunity to learn about weather and climate, but how they're learning about that information can be a little confusing. While STEM education and outreach is important, some of the new standards and requirements within the Girl Scouts of America program are making weather education much more difficult. We are joined by Meteorologist Christina Edwards from WHNT News 19 in Huntsville, Alabama for more insight on this topic. From Thin Mints to thunderstorms and Do-si-dos to derechos, we'll be talking all about weather and how it relates to scouting! They say if you don't like something, change it. Well, have you ever walked outside, hating the weather and wishing you could change it? If you have, you're not alone and you're not the first person to think about it. C.W. Post, a Texas entrepreneur and idea-man, had an explosive idea to alter the weather above the West Texas skies. We're joined by Jonathan Jennings, the Director of Meteorology of the Texas Weather Modification Association. He will give us insights into weather modification, including cloud-seeding operations, and also talk to us about the conspiracy theories surrounding the idea of chemtrails. What is it about Weather Podcasts? Wait... Mark, what are you doing here?? On this episode of Weatherhype, we are joined by Mark Jelinek (the host of the fantastic weather podcast: What is it About the Weather?) to discuss podcasting as a story-telling medium, NOAA's Weather Ready Nation initiative, and the future of weather podcasting. Mark conducted a small study with some of the weather podcast's audiences to ask: Are we, the podcast hosts, being good Weather Ready Nation Ambassadors? You'll have to check out the episode to find out! Our usually shenanigans are back, and don't forget our Songs of the Week! All of this and more on WeatherHype! After an amazing National Weather Podcast Month in March, Castle and Minh are ready to take it a little easy for April. Thesis and manuscript writing are making things hectic for these guys, but no worries, they're not neglecting WeatherHype :) Join in on the conversation as they talk about the difficult decisions and repercussions of local TV stations cutting away from major televised events to cover severe weather. It happened in Columbus, OH recently, right before a stunning buzzer-beater of a March Madness game. You can bet people were pretty angry, but could this situation have turned out better? We'll have that, stories about Harry Potter a fun "Castle Tries Something New" segment, and much more on WeatherHype!
