Send us a textWhat happens when a first responder walks into a therapist's office and shares a traumatic experience so dark that the therapist needs "a few minutes" before responding? For most first responders, this confirms their worst fear: no one can handle their reality. That's why cultural competency isn't just helpful—it's essential. In this powerful conversation with the founding members of "Behind the Badge and Beyond," we explore the critical importance of specialized mental health care for those who serve our communities. Lisa Knowles, Richard Winning, Erin Sheridan, Alexa Silva, Jennifer Waldron, and host Steve Bisson bring decades of combined experience working with police officers, firefighters, EMTs, correctional officers, and military personnel. The group unpacks what makes first responder therapy uniquely challenging—like the profound emotional numbing that protects on the job but destroys relationships at home, the grief that gets misinterpreted as burnout, and the resistance to vulnerability that requires extraordinary patience from clinicians. They share stories of connecting with clients through dark humor, specialized knowledge, and authentic relationship-building that creates safety for those who protect us daily.Whether you're a first responder seeking help, a family member trying to understand, or a clinician wanting to better serve this population, this conversation offers invaluable insights into creating genuine healing spaces for those who witness trauma daily. The message is clear: first responders deserve therapists who speak their language, understand their culture, and can sit comfortably with their darkest experiences without flinching.Ready to find a culturally competent therapist or learn more about specialized mental health support for first responders? In this episode, we unpack Jordan Peterson's ongoing struggle to clearly articulate his faith in Jesus, even when pressed by George Janko, Shawn Ryan, and others. We walk through key moments — from his ambiguous answers on podcasts, to his fiery exchange on Jubilee, to his silence when George asks point-blank if he's a Christian. We also contrast his journey with the biblical call to clarity and courage in following Jesus, exploring what his hesitation reveals about our own.
Brian approaches the case like a detective on a cold trail: revisiting the timeline, scrutinizing law enforcement's shifting strategy, and examining what's been revealed—and what's been redacted. Dani peels back the emotional and psychological layers, exploring trauma, fear, and how this case embedded itself in the soul of an entire community. From the chilling Snapchat video to the strange behavior of the suspect now in custody, we go beyond the known facts and push into the uncomfortable space between justice and uncertainty. This isn't just about who did it. It's about how it happened, why it took so long, and what it says about the systems we trust to protect us.Expect sharp contrast, raw insight, and a few tough questions that still haven't been answered.Whether you've followed this case from day one or you're stepping onto that bridge for the first time, this episode of The Guilty Files: ReVisited delivers what we do best—depth, duality, and discussion that doesn't flinch.

“Most artists are told they'll never make a living from their work. Tim Packer is living proof that's a lie. A former police officer turned celebrated Canadian artist, Tim walked away from a badge and a pension to chase a dream—and built a thriving art business that's both creatively fulfilling and financially successful. Today, through his Tim Packer Art Academy and new book You Can Sell Your Art, Tim is mentoring a new wave of artists to do the same.Tim's Website YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/timpackerfineartsLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/timpacker1/1. From the Badge to the Brush“Tim, let's start with your backstory—what was the moment when you realized you had to walk away from police work and fully commit to your art? What fears did you face, and how did you overcome them?”2. Why Talent is Overrated“You say that talent is a myth and that success in art isn't about being ‘born with it.' What do you believe actually sets successful artists apart—and what are most creatives getting wrong?”3. The Missing Curriculum“You've said the traditional art school system is broken. What are the most important things you had to learn outside the classroom about building a sustainable career—and how do you teach that in your academy?”4. The Business Side of the Brush“Let's talk dollars. Pricing art is something many creatives struggle with. What's your philosophy on pricing, and how can artists overcome the fear of ‘asking too much' or ‘selling out'?”5. Building a Creative Empire“From originals and prints to your online academy and now your book, you've built a multi-million dollar art business. What's your advice to artists who want to think bigger and diversify their income streams—while still staying true to their creative voice?”Sponsor Shout-Out:“Today's episode is brought to you by White Cloud Coffee Roasters. Welcome to a solo soapbox moment that's long overdue. Today, we pull back the curtain on the supplement industry—how it works, where it fails, and what you can do to protect your health (and wallet). With up to 60% of Amazon supplements failing label accuracy tests, we explore the darker side of mass-market wellness: review hijacking, counterfeit listings, and contaminated formulas hiding in plain sight. But this isn't just fear-mongering. It's about empowerment. I share simple, actionable steps to source better products, use independent testing tools, and navigate the system with clarity—not paranoia. In this emotionally charged episode of The Guilty Files: Revisited, Brian and Dani take on one of the most haunting and high-profile true crime cases of the last decade: the disappearance and murder of Gabby Petito. From the outside, Gabby's story looked like a dream life shared through van-life vlogs and Instagram-perfect snapshots. But as Brian and Dani dig deeper into the case file, they expose the far more disturbing truth beneath the curated lens of social media. What begins as a chronological walk-through of Gabby and Brian Laundrie's cross-country trip quickly turns into a sobering examination of the red flags, missed intervention opportunities, and systemic failures that paved the way to tragedy.Brian brings his procedural lens to the infamous Moab police stop, offering a critical look at how law enforcement misread clear signs of domestic violence—and how that single decision might have changed the entire outcome. Dani, on the other hand, peels back the psychological layers of coercive control and emotional abuse, showing just how often the warning signs are hidden in plain sight, if only we're willing to look.Together, they reflect on the media frenzy that surrounded the case—how internet sleuths, true crime TikTok, and mainstream outlets turned Gabby's disappearance into a national obsession. They ask hard questions about who gets attention when they go missing, and who's left in silence. This episode isn't just about Gabby's death—it's about the systems that failed her, the warning signs society ignores, and the echo chamber that sometimes does more harm than good. It's about what it means to truly see someone who's crying out for help in all the ways she can, without ever raising her voice. For Brian, it's a case that exemplifies everything wrong with how we handle domestic calls in the field. For Dani, it's a devastating reminder of how normalized emotional abuse has become, and how easily it gets dismissed until it's too late. Listeners are reminded that this episode contains sensitive content, including discussion of domestic violence and intimate partner homicide.Stay until the end for an exclusive teaser of the Behind the Badge bonus segment on Patreon, where Brian and Dani share their own personal stories of domestic calls that still haunt them to this day.

Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani has declared victory in New York City's Democratic mayoral primary, beating out moderate candidate and former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. The primary results sent waves through the Democratic Party, as voters seemed energized by this candidate's radical agenda that includes free public transit fares, free childcare, and promises to oppose ICE operations in the city. Democratic consultant and former advisor to President Clinton, Doug Shoen, joins the Rundown to discuss whether Blue State voters are jumping even further left. The call to enlist may look different to each American. Retired Staff Sgt. Johnny Joey Jones remembers he and many from his generation enlisted right after the September 11th terror attacks. In Jones' new book, “Behind the Badge,” he spoke to retired Marine, bomb tech, and former LAPD officer Steve Hennigan about the catalyst for his becoming a Marine: the 1983 Beirut Bombings. Later, Hennigan tells Jones about his relentless pursuit to protect and serve with the Los Angeles Police Department. You know what pisses me off? All these Instagram weirdos treating failure like some badge of honor. Like it's something to celebrate. That's bullshit. Here's the real deal. You're going to get hit. Hard. Right out of the gate. That first attempt at your dream. That first swing at something big. It's going to knock you flat on your ass. And that first hit? Always the hardest. But here's what nobody tells you. More tries equals more successes. Period. You want to know why you need those hits? Because if it's too easy it's not for you. We're meant to be challenged. You can't fulfill your potential without hardship. Without temporary defeats. Without getting back up and trying again. And here's the kicker. Even after you reach success you keep trying. You keep pushing higher. Because that's how you stay fulfilled. That's how you keep growing. Stop looking for easy. Easy doesn't fulfill you. Easy doesn't help other people. And we're here to help other people.
