Daniel and Romina are dear, longtime listeners of the podcast. Back in April, I sat down with them at their kitchen table in Stockholm to work out the story behind the many images that circulated online last season: a stunningly large mob of active supporters in fine voice home and away, tifo and all. This wasn't just one big game in a big stadium for the sake of a record. This was organic, homegrown, ultra-themed. At most European away games, the Bajen supporters outnumbered home fans. What gives, and why there, in Stockholm? So what you are about to hear is a kitchen table conversation (recorded on my phone) with dear listeners, who happen to know a lot about this peculiar fanscene at Hammarby men and Hammarby women. There is enough shit happening in this world, and I hope that kitchen table with Daniel and Romina and their stories begins summer on a humble but hopeful note.Thank you for being here, for listening, July is Summer break as always, we can connect on social media, and I will be back here in August again. Season 12 is all about PLEASURE and we're kicking things off with a juicy one! This week, DB is joined by Dr. Candice Nicole Hargons—licensed psychologist, sex researcher, and pleasure activist—to talk about what happened when 1,000 people with masturbate for science! The Magic Wand Wellness Study is the first study of its kind to look at how daily masturbation impacts things like sleep, stress, focus, confidence, and body image, and the results were amazing. We talk about why solo pleasure is so often ignored in wellness culture, what DB learned from doing the study herself, and why taking time to get yourself off might actually make you feel better in your body, your brain, and your relationships. If you've been feeling disconnected from your pleasure — especially solo pleasure — this is your gentle nudge (or loud, vibrating one) to come back to it! GUEST DETAILS Dr. Candice Nicole Hargons is an award-winning associate professor at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health, where she studies sexual wellness and liberation. She has published over 80 academic articles and has been featured in popular media, including Cosmopolitan, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Essence, Ebony, and the Huffington Post. Her debut book, Good Sex: Stories, Science, and Strategies for Sexual Liberation was published February 2025 by Row House. ABOUT SEASON 12 Season 12 of Sex Ed with DB is ALL ABOUT PLEASURE! Twin Peaks: the Return: the DECODE episode 4.SONNY JIM IS BACK IN. Full stop. June 1st, 2025 has arrived. We all knew this day would come. 2000 years ago, when the first western savior was born to a virgin in a manger beneath the Star of Bethlehem, the prophecy was set in motion: "Yay, verily, a special child would rise again when the world of shadows most needs him. This savior of the 3rd age wouldst appear impossibly from behind the door of red, in the Court of Lancelot. His name shalt be known only as "Sonny Jim." And Sonny Jim shalt be back on in. " And now it has finally come to pass....Join Post Relevant Podcast hosts Phil Ristaino and Justin Epifanio as we decode Twin Peaks: the Return episode 4. We seek to understand the adventures of Dougie Jones, aka Mr Jackpots, as he wins $425,000.00 and then pees, fails to dress himself, stares in the mirror, eats pancakes, and most importantly, amuses his angel of a son, the impossible boy known to one and all as Sonny Jim.Also: We marvel over Michael Cera as Marlin Brando. We ponder the color yellow. We remember the owls (are not what they seem. ) We talk extra low. We are exonerated in Courts of Law. We watch "A Boy and His Atom" while failing to observe electrons. And we try to fix our hearts or die. And, in the extra secret end section, we debate what might happen if we met ETs in a Dark Forest. But really, I'm just being coy, because this episode is all about the debut of the spanking new smash hit song (in Sweden) entitled "Sonny Jim (Is Back In)." It will change your life and show you how your heart can also be 'so full.'Prepare the way, young warrior! The moment of Post Relevance hath finally arrived! The End of the End of Time is Nigh! Kim Kelly began her writing career in the heavy metal world – she even adopted a moniker known as Grim Kim – but it wasn't long before her family's labor roots caught hold. She joined a union when writing for Vice, a digital publishing platform, and soon her stories took a turn toward more fervent working-class issues. Now, Kim is an author and public speaker with two books on the shelves focused on American labor history and a passion for speaking truth to power. In this episode of Solidarity Works, we'll learn about the journalist's unique career path, what inspires her dedication to justice, and why all Americans should be concerned about recent attempts to ban books and limit the free press. The Assistant Professor of Football: Soccer, Culture, History.
Fort Wayne is a city of around 260,00 in the very east of the northern half of Indiana. Like many mid-sized midwestern cities, it has been shaped by the industrialization of the late 19th century, immigration waves from Western, Central and Southeastern Europe until the 1920s and from the rest of the world today, deindustrialization after World War 2, the decline of urban America as well as revitalization more recently. It also has a soccer club, founded by German immigrants for the “Promotion of Soccer Football and German Culture” in 1927. And unlike many other semi-professional or pre-professional teams, Fort Wayne SC is a proper members-owned club, with members well beyond German immigrants now, and legally a Non-Profit. It's not just that this story is interesting - it's also pretty well documented. FWSC has some history minded folks out there. I talked to one of them, Dan Kruse, who also happens to be the club's president. The club appeared on my radar because they play my hometown team Goshen City FC, new to the Midwest Premier League, on the 31st. So before a longer conversation with Dan Kruse, I also got a quick word from Goshen City FC's boss, Henrique Eichelberger, about new life in a new league, and the outlook for this season.HELPFUL LINKS FOR THIS EPISODE:Fort Wayne SC 1927Goshen City FC Midwest Premier LeagueUnderrated Eurovisions Songs:Abor and Tynna (Germany) - BallerErika Vikman (Finland) - Ich Komme (live video from the arena, because… flying giant mic and things)Laura Thorn (Luxembourg) - La Poupée Monte Le Son Lucio Corsi (Italy) - Volevo Essere un DuroNEW: send me a text message! In this episode we explore the final key, “Invite Yourself,” which encourages patients and families to become respectfully assertive in their healthcare journey. Rather than waiting to be asked, individuals are empowered to speak up, ask questions, and take an active role in their care. We discuss how this mindset shift can lead to better communication, improved understanding, and more meaningful experiences, especially for those who feel marginalized or overwhelmed. Through real stories and practical tips, we emphasize that inviting yourself isn't about being demanding; it's about recognizing your right to be heard and informed. The Assistant Professor of Football: Soccer, Culture, History.
Gabriel Kuhn is an Austrian writer and researcher who works for the Central Organization of Swedish Workers - and sat for an in-person interview (he has been on before when we talked about his wonderful book Soccer vs the State in 2023.) In this episode, we time travel to "red Vienna" in the 1920s, to talk about how antifascism, organized workers' sports, the professionalization of soccer and sobriety intersected then, and what promise they can hold for the present. Our baseline is the life of Viennese Social Democratic leader Julius Deutsch, an edited collection of whose writings Gabriel has published with a comprehensive introduction by himself. British historian Richard Crockett recently wrote the seminal Vienna: How the City of Ideas Created The Modern World. He argues that the Vienna before everyone fled, first from the Austrian fascists and then from the Nazis, the “Red” Vienna, governed by the Social Democrats, was a kind of a laboratory for the modern world. From psychoanalysis to Reaganomics, from Hollywood Westerns to fitted kitchens - this city, Crockett says, made the modern world. That is also the time period, in which a separate workers football association and a workers football league saw the light of day in Austria, an alternative to the rapidly professionalizing other Austrian league, and Austrian football association. Working class organizers and politicians saw not just the recreational value of soccer, and watching soccer. They also saw its social, organizational, ethical and prophetic value. First, another football became possible - to make clear that another world was possible, too. She enjoys writing, traveling, and perfecting her technique in her new role as Nana. She is a certified nutritionist and personal trainer who closed her small boutique gym in 2017. She documented her journey and felt called to share her story. Her first book, Reflections of Joy, was released in May 2024. It is a Christlit Award winner and stands out as a vital resource for women entering their second act. Mosiman nudges readers to let go of the things that have held them back so they can explore the world of opportunities available to women in their middle years. She recently released a companion journal, My Owner's Manual, to help women learn the importance of gathering data in their quest to age well and stay healthy. Kim became a certified Christian life coach in 2023 and has recently expanded her offerings to include wellness coaching and helps new authors launch their books into the world through her coaching business writer-2-writer. This week I speak with Sherrie Pilkington who enters into various aspects of life as a daughter of the One True God. She dearly loves her 2 grown sons and 2 daughters-in-love but it's her 6 grandchildren that keep her young at heart and the sound of joy in her laugh. Known for pondering the hard things in life through the lens of God's heart, she shares her revelations through her podcast, Finding God in Our Pain. Sherrie and her guests do not shy away from the hard questions about the reality of pain and suffering and the good God we profess. After unexpectedly losing her husband in early 2018, whom she had been with for a little over 33 years, she now knows that God speaks beautiful things in the dark. Through her website (alifeofthrive.com) and her podcast she wants to let people know that they're never alone in their pain because God enters into the darkest of valleys and will gently shepherd each one through. This week I speak with Nicole Roth who empowers the “hard on herself” woman of God to live as a much-loved daughter: held, healed, and whole, and to restore from the damage done due to striving: over-functioning and over-serving. Wife to David of over 20 years, mom to 3 young adult daughters, an autoimmune warrior of 20 years, and former dietitian, Nicole is most at home in her kayak, out on a hiking trail with her dogs, in her hammock, or hanging out in her camper! The means Nicole uses to be a catalyst of change, healing, and growth include coaching, community, and courses plus in person nature adventures and retreats!Links:https://youtube.com/@sheabidesinjoyHer handle is: she abides in joy everywherefreebie: Abide artwork Https://nicoleroth.com/abidegift*Theme Music "Blessed Time" by Ketsa
