The Beauty In Us Nelson Brown pt 2 We live in a world that is often very harsh, critical and often shaped by “first impressions.” You will often hear others, or may even say yourself from time to time, “She looks like a nice person.” Or, “He looks mean.” My guest today is Nelson Brown, and he has experienced these things first hand while growing up. Nelson has been on our show in the past a few times, as he was releasing his first book, “The Beauty In Us: Our Reality.” If you missed any of Nelson's prior interviews, just look him up in the archives search feature. Amen! Nelson is young black man that loves the Lord and he really has a lot of great things going on in his life! Amen!  He is on a journey to help boys and girls, men and women, to discover who they are and how beautiful they truly are. In his books, he speaks on behalf of all the men and young boys located in communities around the world who are afraid to speak up for themselves. He is also willing to show women and young girls how males carry their insecurities with them each and every day and how they tend to suppress those insecurities in public. Nelson Brown is a small group facilitator and an award winning author who has released three books in the series, “The Beauty In Us” so far and he is working on the fourth as we speak! Praise God! Nelson is the host of “The Beauty In Us Radio Show” that airs every Tuesday evening from 6-7pm ET on the “Awesome God Radio” network. This show gives young black men a voice on subjects that matter to them. The radio program is based off of your book series. Tell us the format and what the discussions are like… You also discuss problems in the health care industry on your show. Tell us a little about what those discussion have centered around for your audience? How about education. I know Baltimore City has been under a huge microscope these last several years around the failing public schooling system. What kind of discussions have you had with others that were addressing those issues? You talk about family values and pop culture. Can you share with us some of the problems you have discussed with some of your guests concerning these topics? What is the process for a single adult male to be part of the adoption process? You also talk about philanthropy on your program. What kinds of philanthropy are you involved in? Your books have won a few awards along the way. Can you tell us about the awards you have won for your books? Nelson, this has been great catching up with you. I want to make sure that someone can listen to your radio program. Can you give us the information again on how to hear your radio program? Your books, they are all available on Amazon, correct? I'll put links to each book down in the show notes. If someone wanted to get in touch with you, to ask a question, maybe be a guest on your radio program or anything like that… how can they do that? How can they get in touch with you? Folks, I've known Nelson now for, I think it's going on three of four years now, brother!  Praise God. He's been consistent. He's been working for the Kingdom since I've known him and even before. His books are awesome and I want to encourage you get your copies of each of his books today. I know you know someone who will be blessed by Nelson's book series, “The Beauty In Us.” It does not only apply to black men. It does not only apply to women. It applies to each person who has experienced any kind of “preconceived misconceptions” from others. This is the true pandemic in our society. One that is not discussed that often. One that plagues people at all age levels and from every social demographic. Nelson Brown is confronting this issue head on and I believe he is speaking for thousands of people every time he gets behind that microphone or releases another book. I encourage you to go down into the show notes and order Nelson's books right now. They are not that expensive....

The Beauty In Us – Nelson Brown pt 2   (https://kcrpodcast.com/episode-445-beauty-within-nelson-brown-pt-1/image-2/) We live in a world that is often shaped by “first impressions.” You will hear things like, “She looks like a nice person.” Or, “He looks mean.” Or, “He looks like a gang-banger” or any such thing. I know, because of my military training of “never show your emotion,” I was often accused of being “mad at the world” or “not caring” about what my wife was saying. Why?  Because I had developed a persona of never showing my emotion. My wife’s friends would come over to visit and leave after a few minutes because they thought I was mad at them being there!  Just because I failed to visibly make smiley faces, etc. That was not me. Well, that can also be taken to an extreme. Many presumptions are made simply based on appearances. My guest today, Nelson Brown, has experienced presumptions on appearances probably on a level most people cannot relate to. I’ve had Nelson on the program before as I did a couple of interviews with him about the book he wrote on this topic, “The Beauty In Us: Our Reality.”  If you missed those episodes, I encourage you to go back and listen to episodes 445 and 446 in our archives. Nelson’s book is young man of color who is using his age, his gender, and his nationality to discuss his personal struggles with colorism, self image, and self acceptance. As a society as whole, it seems like we always discuss controversial topics regarding body image and acceptance, but often it is heard from a female’s point of view. Do you hear many males ever speaking out about their struggles with their body image and their self-esteem? Nelson E. Brown has been embarking on a journey to help boys, girls, men, and women around the world discover who they are and how beautiful they are. In this book,   He is speaking on behalf of all the men and all of the young boys in communities all around the world who are afraid to speak up. He is also willing to show women and young girls how males carry their insecurities with them each and every day and how they suppress them in the public eye. Let’s talk a bit about “Male Body Dysmorphia.” Explain to us what that is and how it relates to you and your books. You are expanding from your books into counseling as well. How is that happening and how are you preparing for that new venture? What is “The Beauty In Us: My Hair I Wear Campaign” all about about? You focus on doing great things to help improve the black community as a whole. Why are you so committed to this outreach? How has it been received, overall? Explain what you mean by “Black Excellence?” How are you working to develop that in the community and with those you interact with? Nelson, I congratulate you on being so impactful in the community. You are truly a voice and inspiration to the young black men. Not just in Baltimore, but around the nation that will hear about your work through this program and other programs you have been interviewed on.  Your whole future is ahead of you and it seems to me that the Lord is already using you in mighty ways. And since He never shows us the end result, only the next step – I can tell already you have embarked upon a journey that will yield so much fruit to your Heavenly account…you’re awesome, dude! If someone wanted to reach out to you. To get more information, maybe to do an interview such as this. How can they do that? How can they get in touch with you? Folks, you need to follow the adventures of Nelson Brown! I’m telling you right now, this young man is going places. You will be hearing about him in the future! I would not be surprised to see him in some form of politics. He is already becoming known in that arena locally, here in Baltimore. You also need to go the links in the show notes below and get in touch with him. Ask him to come out and speak to your youth groups. He can set up a...

Ok, for the benefit of those that have not heard our prior interviews, catch us up. In your own words, tell us, “Who is Nelson Brown?” Now, first I want to congratulate you on your book award that you are being honored with. Tell us about the “Newsome Award” you are receiving. You have been honored by some local politicians – and state politicians – for your book and your work in the community as well, correct? Before we get into the books, I want to ask you about your small groups ministry at Messiah Community Church as well as some your community outreaches… Tell us what you have been up to in those areas. You also work for the Maryland Department of the Environment. Tell us about how you got started there and what the future looks like for you. You said you are a community activist. Explain what you are doing in that area? You have had a few book signings for your first book, “The Beauty In Us: Our Reality.”  How has the book been received overall? And you are in the process of writing and editing your next book, “The Beauty In Us: Vulnerable Masculinity.”  I believe this set to be released in February 2020, correct?  Tell us about this book. And there is already another book planned after that one, if I’m not mistaken. Called, “The Beauty In Us: Our Love, Our Village.”  What is that book about and when will it be available? (May 2021) How can people get a copy of this book? Is it available on Amazon? Let’s talk a bit about “Male Body Dysmorphia.” Explain to us what that is and how it relates to you and your books. Women Rocking Wall Street - A podcast dedicated to women in financial services

WRW024: Making Connections with Maureen Adolf   Welcome back, and I hope you’re feeling happy, healthy and inspired. On this week’s episode of Women Rocking Wall Street, I’m thrilled to introduce Maureen Adolf, who’s an expert in government relations and pubic [CH1] policy. She’s also president of the Financial Women’s Association, a New York-based organization dedicated to accelerating women’s careers in the finance industry.   FWA recently conducted some very interesting research around the value of women’s internal networks at various firms. (Check out the full report here). Among the most compelling findings: 39% of respondents said they believe women’s internal networks could contribute to their reason for staying with their current firms. Internal networks have the power to make women feel like their firms are more invested in their wellbeing, which in turn fosters loyalty. On this episode, we’ll dive into the research and best practices for internal networking groups.   If you’ve been thinking about joining a group for women in finance, there’s no time like the present. (Here’s how you can apply for a membership with the Financial Women’s Association.) And as far as internal networks go, don’t be afraid to explore them—even if you aren’t a senior member of your company.  Many times, internal networking groups are formed organically at the lower level, or through HR. And these groups are in demand: According to the report, 77% of respondents who work at firms without a WIN said they would join if their organization had one.   If you are a decision maker for an existing WIN, consider meeting during the workday to accommodate busy schedules and demands at home. Almost half of those surveyed (41%) said time was a reason for not participating.   Check out the full episode for more information about how to get involved, and for Maureen’s insights on the industry. And if you like the episode, please be sure to share with friends!  [CH1]It says on LinkedIn that she worked at Nelson Brown until May. Wasn’t sure if there is a new position to add
