In this episode of the Dyslexia Explored Podcast, hosts Darius Namdaran and Jo Lee speak with Alex Chaparro, a former realtor of 37 years who became an author and neurodiversity coach. Alex explains how his journal, originally a private operations manual, unexpectedly became his book The Dreamer's Guide to Achieving in Uncertain Times, rooted in erasing limiting labels and rewriting his own narrative. He describes early school experiences of being unable to read, bullying, and creatively hiding difficulties, then a seventh-grade shift where he rapidly improved his reading level. The conversation explores impostor syndrome, perfectionism, disclosure, and redefining labels' “small print.” Alex shares returning to finish college with accommodations, his later ADHD diagnosis, and how self-acceptance helped him lose 200 pounds, regain mobility, and find joy and purpose in coaching. This podcast is sponsored by ivvi. The US military is secretly helping ships circumvent Iran's stranglehold on the Strait of Hormuz along a new route hugging the Omani coast. Bryan Clark, a former US Navy officer and senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, looks at whether this is a solution to the Hormuz crisis that has plagued Donald Trump and the rest of the world since the war began.Plus, Hezbollah accuses Lebanon of “surrendering” after agreeing a deal with Israel. Venetia Rainey and Sophia Yan discuss the latest news, including the significance of the US House passing a war powers resolution to curb further American military activity and the death of British MI6 boss Sir Alex Younger. As we enter the story in 2 Kings 22, eight-year-old Josiah inherits a nation spiritually bankrupt from decades of corrupt leadership. Defying his family legacy, he grows up determined to do "what was right in the Lord's eyes" and eventually launches a massive project to repair the broken, neglected Temple in Jerusalem.During the construction, the high priest makes a startling discovery: buried in the clutter of the neglected house of God is the lost Instruction scroll (the Law of Moses). The book is handed to the king's secretary, who brings it to Josiah and reads it aloud. As we pick up the story in verses 11–20, notice what happens the exact moment the words of this long-lost scroll finally collide with a king who is ready to listen.
Despite the old “sell in May” cliché, U.S. stocks are holding firm, driven by AI momentum and resilient earnings. Scott Welch breaks down a “tale of two markets,” highlighting renewed strength in mega-cap tech alongside solid small-cap performance, while also addressing a more hawkish Fed outlook and rising global opportunities. He closes by weighing whether AI's surge reflects true earnings power or signs of overheating.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – https://twitter.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/schwab-network/About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about
Have you ever been told you aren't good enough to do something, then gone ahead and proved the naysayers wrong by doing it anyway - in glorious, headline-grabbing style? That is the satisfying story of Dr Dean Lomax. Dean grew up in Doncaster with a passion for fossils but after failing various school exams, was told by teachers that he'd never make it as a palaeontologist. Undeterred by leaving school with no qualifications, Dean sold his childhood Star Wars collection to fund a fossil-hunting trip to America that changed his life - after which a chance discovery led to him publishing his first ever scientific paper at the age of just 20. Today, he's an expert on ichthyosaurs - the massive marine reptiles that once inhabited our seas - and has discovered and named several new species, written books for both adults and children, and brought the prehistoric world to life on TV. Talking to Professor Jim Al-Khalili, Dean discusses dinosaurs as a 'gateway science', discovering the Rutland Sea Dragon and the importance of cutting out noise from nay-sayers to follow your dreams...Presented by Jim Al-Khalili Produced by Lucy Taylor A BBC Studios production

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Political correspondent Ariela Karmel and reporter Amy Spiro join host Jessica Steinberg for today's episode. It's been an intensive week for lawmakers, reports Karmel, as the government begins dissolving the Knesset to trigger earlier elections and accelerates several controversial pieces of legislation. Karmel discusses the attorney general bill, a final effort by the right-leaning coalition to remove what remains of the only checks and balances on executive power in Israel. Another element of the attorney general legislation is intended to allow elected officials to operate with less scrutiny, says Karmel, making it more difficult to open investigations or indictments against a prime minister or cabinet members. After singer Noam Bettan garnered second place in the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday night, Spiro discusses the surprising result, given the intensive politics behind the competition, with several countries that dropped out of the contest in protest of Israel's participation. If Bettan had won first place, Spiro notes that it would have complicated decisions about having Israel host the Eurovision next year, but notes that the song contest has survived other wars, boycotts and geopolitical dramas. Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates. Episode 167 of Tablesetters is LIVE! We open with the surprising division leaders in the West as the San Diego Padres and Athletics continue leading their divisions despite major flaws on paper. The Padres rank near the bottom of baseball offensively but keep winning close games through late heroics, while the Athletics remain atop the AL West despite a 4.45 ERA and inconsistent pitching. We discuss Jackson Merrill leading off, Nick Castellanos delivering a huge homer after borrowing a bat from Fernando Tatis Jr., and the strange state of both West divisions. From there, we dive into the shocking struggles of Cal Raleigh after his 60-homer season in 2025. Raleigh entered Tuesday with a 43-plate appearance hitless streak and one of the biggest OPS drops in baseball. We break down the hard-hit decline, timing concerns, mechanical changes, and whether fatigue from last season's massive workload could be contributing to the collapse. We also discuss the growing noise around the New York Yankees despite their solid start. Is the 1-8 record against teams above .500 actually meaningful this early? Plus, Max Fried exits with elbow soreness, José Caballero lands on the IL, and Anthony Volpe returns to the majors after shoulder surgery. We get into MLB and the MLBPA officially beginning CBA negotiations, the growing conversation around a salary cap and floor system, and the financial imbalance highlighted by the Dodgers' projected $550 million combined payroll and luxury tax spending. The Braves continue looking dominant, and Michael Harris II is putting together the best offensive start of his career after major swing and approach adjustments against fastballs. In “What's the Word?” we focus on timing with Shohei Ohtani struggling through one of the worst offensive stretches of his career while the Dodgers continue searching for answers offensively. We also discuss Kyle Schwarber homering in five straight games as the Phillies continue surging under Don Mattingly, and close with the Tampa Bay Rays looking like the best team in the American League behind the resurgence of Shane McClanahan.

When Donald Trump began his second term in the White House, many European leaders chose to pursue flattery instead of a fight. Most sought to avoid public confrontation even as Trump instituted tariffs, spoke of annexing Greenland, and went to war with Iran. But lately more European leaders across the political spectrum - from longtime allies to ideological opponents - are willing to openly contradict and criticise the American president. The White House appears to be retaliating, especially against Germany, from which the Pentagon has announced it will withdraw 5,000 troops. Has Europe suddenly become more defiant? Stocks continue pushing to all-time highs even as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East drive uncertainty and higher energy prices. Thomas Urano of Sage Advisory explains why the macro backdrop remains resilient.Urano points to solid economic data, steady growth, and a strong labor market as key supports for the economy. However, persistent inflation remains a sticking point, likely keeping the Federal Reserve on hold and limiting the chances of rate cuts this year.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – / schwabnetwork Follow us on Facebook – / schwabnetwork Follow us on LinkedIn - / schwab-network About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about
ITL shares wild moments where things could've gone very wrong.
This week, James is joined by Guy Martin, former British motorcycle racer, land speed record setter, part-time cyclist and reluctant TV presenter - he says he'd rather be known for his day job fixing trucks than as a TV personality. But on the box he is, where you may have seen him building his own narrowboat from archaic methods (think smelting your own iron), breaking tractor land speed records (spoiler, 135mph), rebuilding First World War tanks and travelling the globe in the Our Guy in… series, where Guy visits the Chernobyl reactor in Ukraine, cycles across the desert in China, travels through India on a motorcycle and much more - we haven't even got to the drug cartels in Colombia yet.Guy is also a keen cyclist, from enduro-mountain biking to breaking the British land speed record on a special steel road bike, to his own self-styled ultra-cycling challenges, although he'd just call them ‘long rides to get me head straight'. And he's also an author, his new book All the Medals Have Been Handed Out is out on 7th May, which along with charting his adventures and misadventures on two wheels, recounts being kidnapped in Colombia and waterboarded; his soul-crushing, death-defying bicycle ride to Azerbaijan; and his continued ‘300 miles per hour job', an ongoing project to turn a street bike he bought for £5,000 into a record breaking motorcycle that he'll ride at over 300mph. And he's tightened all those nuts and bolts himself. We talk about all this and more, so buckle up your four-point harness and drop the clutch. It's marked with a horrible, dark past — built for nuns who ran the local residential school in Northern Alberta. Belcourt grew up in the shadow of that school. But his mom drenched this home with love so powerful it surpassed the haunted context. Belcourt's mother's house provokes questions reconciliation couldn't quite answer: what does it mean to live inside history and how do you imagine your way out? In this lecture for Vancouver Island University's Indigenous Speaker's Series, he makes the case for literature as a more honest reckoning.
What does it take to go from a surf shop dropout to one of Britain's most elite Special Forces operators, then reinvent yourself all over again?Dean Stott MBE spent 16 years in the military, including time in the Special Boat Service (SBS), the UK's equivalent of SEAL Team Six. After a catastrophic parachuting accident at 15,000 feet ended his career, he refused to stop. He built a private security company from scratch, single-handedly evacuated the Canadian Embassy from war-torn Libya, rescued 220 people from Israel within 96 hours of the October 7th Hamas attacks, and, oh yeah, broke the world record for cycling the 14,000-mile Pan-American Highway in just 99 days, raising over $1.4 million for mental health charities along the way.In this conversation, Dean opens up about:— The parachuting accident that tore every ligament in his knee and ended his military career— Dressing as Taliban to run double agents in Kandahar, and the moment he nearly fired his weapon by mistake— How he buried 30 weapons in the Libyan desert and built a security empire from nothing— Why he believes anticipation is worse than participation— The raw "dead or divorce" conversation that changed everything in his marriage— Cycling 14,000 miles having barely ridden a bike — and smashing the world record by 17 days— How breathwork kept him calm in a boxing ring at age 49— His friendship with Prince Harry and the Heads Together mental health campaign— The Race Across America he's planning next, and why it's going to be specialDean is one of those rare humans who makes you rethink what's actually possible. This one will stay with you.

Shawn Needham, R.Ph., talks with Dr. Aaron Hartman about his book, "UnCurable: From Hopeless Diagnosis to Defying All Odds". Dr. Aaron Hartman's functional medicine journey began when traditional healthcare failed Anna, his adopted daughter with cerebral palsy. Despite being a physician, he felt helpless as specialists offered no solutions, only surgery and medications. Witnessing his daughter's impossible transformation shattered everything Dr. Hartman believed about medicine. This transformed his entire practice of medicine and now he's become the doctor to turn to when all others have given up. He now helps patients reclaim their lives when conventional medicine says "there's nothing more we can do. His new book, "UnCurable: From Hopeless Diagnosis to Defying All Odds", chronicles this transformation. A clinical researcher involved in 70+ studies and VCU Assistant Clinical Professor, he founded Richmond Integrative and Functional Medicine in 2016. Send us Fan MailA surgeon once told Lionel Pailloncy to give up running after back surgery. Years later, he's not only running again, he's finished the original six World Marathon Majors and just took 20 minutes off his marathon PR in Tokyo. From Paris to Boston and beyond, Lionel's story isn't about being the fastest, it's about refusing to let one diagnosis or one hard year define what's possible. We talk about the real mechanics of a comeback: physiotherapy, respecting your body in everyday movements, and rebuilding confidence one small step at a time. Lionel shares how he went from park runs to a 10K, then a half marathon, then his first Paris Marathon and why each race feels like its own emotional “cathedral.” We also get into the mental side of endurance, including the pressure of Strava metrics, the unpredictability of race day, and the moment he pivots away from chasing numbers toward gratitude and meaning. If you love practical running conversations, you'll enjoy the details too: vegan fueling while traveling, A-B testing gels, hydration habits, gear choices down to socks and seams, and the packing ritual that calms the mind before the gun goes off. Lionel also shares what might be the wildest week ever, defending his PhD viva in Paris and immediately flying to Boston to run again. 1942's Best Picture winner CASABLANCA, made at Warner Brothers, is ultimately the best evidence one could produce for how the old studio system of the 1920's through the 1940's was set up to occasionally produce a masterpiece that could not have been made any other way. Defying the auteur-centered way we often appraise movies, CASABLANCA really was a team effort with critical contributions from writers, the producer, the composer, the cast, the director, the production designer, the cinematographer. Secret Movie Club founder.programmer Craig Hammill using amazing books like Round Up the Usual Suspects: The Making of Casablanca by Aljean Harmetz for research does a deep dive into the pre production, production, and release of one of Hollywood's most beloved movies. While we've moved on from the studio system, often for the good, there is still a lot we should reconsider that might help bring that magic to our current work.
I'm adopted and – while I come from colourful characters who roamed from Ireland and England to Western Australia, Lord Howe Island and Sydney, via South Africa and the Western Front – I didn't know *any* of this family history before tracking down my birth mother in 2018! How much are we the product of nature and how much of nurture? How much of our lives is choice and chance? My family reunion story does come with some startling coincidences.See Forgotten Australia live!"Crashes, Chases and Crooks in Melton History" – as part of the Melton Heritage Festival.More info and free tickets:https://libraryevents.melton.vic.gov.au/event?id=209608Forgotten Australia supporters get early ad-free access to all episodes, along with bonus shows and a podcast shout-out.To access a free trial, use these links and follow the easy steps. 8. Election night 1936 resulted in a historic landslide victory for Franklin D. Roosevelt, defying the predictions of the *Literary Digest* straw poll. Roosevelt carried 46 of 48 states and secured a massive mandate in both houses of Congress. The victory signaled a fundamental political realignment, as FDR captured 104 of the nation's 106 major cities, driven by the coming-of-age of immigrant populations. This sweep solidified the modern Democratic coalition, uniting urban centers, organized labor, and minority voters. The triumph transformed the party into a national powerhouse for decades to come.
