We can't believe it. Can you believe it? We actually finished reading Finnegans Wake. What started out as a podcast to read an "unreadable book" has turned into a journey that has endeared us to a magical community, connected with our family and friends, and reawakened our sense of what art can be. While sometimes it felt like climbing a sheer cliff-face, the toeholds we gained along the way made this a delightfully fulfilling project. For this final episode, Toby and TJ look back on WAKE and consider how you know when a project is over, embracing confusion, and how much we appreciate the spectators at the end of a marathon. We talk Joyce on film, Pinter, the Beatles, Lord of the Rings, and hypertexts, and pinpoint the exact moment the Harry Potter franchise lost TJ. We take on translation, and gimmicks, and mountaineering, and the question of how-fast-is-too-fast-to-read-the-Wake. Then, as we consider the stadium-sized Rubik's Cube that is the Wake, we are visited by the Patron Saint of WAKE for words of congratulations. It's an unmissable end to what has indeed proven to be a surprisingly listenable podcast. This week's chatters: Toby Malone, TJ YoungProgress: 628 pages complete, 0 pages to go; 100% read.Contextual NotesThe Patron Saint of WAKEMichael Ian Black congratulates WAKE! Send us a textOne of the top questions we get from athletes and clients surrounds creatine supplementation, so we wanted to revisit this super informative episode with researcher, coach and athlete Sam Moore, about creatine usage, especially as it relates to female athletes. We spoke with Sam about:How the menstrual cycle affects creatine supplementationHow creatine benefits fluid distributionWhy menstruators should supplement with creatineSam Moore is an applied sport scientist and Human Movement Science Doctoral student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's School of Medicine, researching endocrinological topics of applied female athlete sport science. As the first woman to serve as a Director of Sport Science in the NCAA, Sam implemented a revolutionary and evidence informed framework of women's specific training design based on the hormonal landscape of the Wolfpack female athletes. Sam has presented at major international conferences on topics ranging from metabolic and performance effects of female sex hormones to bigger pictures issues of equity and social justice for women and gender diverse athletes.Sam completed her undergraduate degree in Exercise Science and Human Biology from Western Oregon University and her master's degree in Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention from California University of Pennsylvania. Prior to Carolina, Sam was with the NC State Wolfpack from 2019-2021 as the Director of Sport Science and Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach. After two season ending knee surgeries during her dual sport collegiate athletic career, Moore was drawn to the starkly different experience entering the “real-world” as a former female athlete compared to her male counterparts. This was the inception of what would later establish her as the topic expert in the field of female athlete physiology in the pursuit of gender equity in collegiate women's sports. 814 - Ramadan islamico o quaresima cristiana?

Analisi e commenti | RRL

Dr. Christner shares practical examples and personal experiences, emphasizing the impact of everyday choices and the modeling of respectful behavior. parenting #girldad #fatherdaughter About RayDr. Christner received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the California University of Pennsylvania (now Pennsylvania Western University, California), where he continued to complete a Master’s degree and certification in School Psychology. He worked as a school psychologist for several years before returning to school for further education. Insights: Ray: Being a father is probably the most important job I've ever had, and maybe many ever will have. So just remembering our small everyday choices really do pave the way to our daughters having a refined definition of what their future looks like. So focus on those little, those little everyday choices. Liz: Creating that safety for when things don't go well. And being there before, during and after. For a child for a daughter. Welcome episode to 102! featuring Geoff Lecovin, a naturopathic doctor, chiropractor, acupuncturist, and expert in breathwork. Dr. Lecovin provides an in-depth explanation of breathwork, its history, physiological effects, and benefits. He discusses how breathwork can induce altered states of consciousness and access the body's innate healing abilities by manipulating chemicals like anandamide, dopamine, and serotonin. Dr. Lecovin explains the science behind breathwork, including how overbreathing and breath holds increase carbon dioxide levels, triggering hormetic effects and stem cell release. He describes the concept of transient hypofrontality, where breathwork decreases blood flow to the brain's default mode network, quieting the ego. The episode covers contraindications and precautions for breathwork, as well as the importance of working with a guide. Lecovin outlines a typical breathwork session, incorporating various breathing patterns, music, meditation, and integration practices. He emphasizes breathworks' potential for emotional healing, neuroplasticity, manifestation, and tapping into one's "inner healer." Dr. Lecovin shares how he incorporates breathwork into his clinical practice and offers a simple 4-7-8 breathing exercise for listeners to try at home. Overall, the episode provides a comprehensive overview of breathwork's theory, practice, and therapeutic applications. EP433: The Mystery of the Weekly Claims Wire: What Are Plan Sponsors Actually Paying For Each Week? With Justin Leader

For a full transcript of this episode, click here. On the show today, I am going to use the term TPA (third-party administrator) and ASO (administrative services only) vendor kind of interchangeably here. But these are the entities that a plan sponsor—for example, a self-insured employer is a plan sponsor—but these plan sponsors will use to administer their plan. And one of the things that TPAs and ASOs administer is this so-called weekly claims wire. Every week, self-funded employers get a weekly claims run charge so they can pay expenses related to their plan in weekly increments. The claims run usually comes with a register or an invoice. This invoice might be just kind of a total (“Hey, plan. Pay this amount.”). Or there might be a breakdown like, “Here's your medical claims, and here's your pharmacy claims.” Maybe there's another level down from that of detail if the plan or their advisor is sophisticated enough and/or concerned enough about the fiduciary risk to dig in hard about what the charges are actually for. I was talking about this topic earlier with Dana Erdfarb, who happens to be executive director of HR at a large financial services organization. Dana I'm definitely gonna credit for inspiring this conversation that I'm having today with Justin Leader. Dana was the first one to really bring to my attention just the level of hidden fees that are buried (many times) in these claims wires … because when I say buried in the claims wire, I mean not charged for via an administrative invoice. These hidden fees are also not called out in the ASO finance exhibit in the contract, by the way. So, yeah … hidden. I don't know … if you have to hide your charges, in my mind that's a pretty big tell that your charges are worth hiding. Now the one thing I will point out is that just because the charges are worth hiding doesn't necessarily mean that the services those charges are for are unwarranted. Some of these services are actually pretty worthwhile to do. There's just a really big difference from a plan sponsor knowingly contracting at a known rate with a third party to do something versus paying for a service knowingly or unknowingly via fees hidden in a claims wire wherein the amount paid is not in the control of the one paying the bill. Anyway, I was talking about all of this earlier, as I mentioned, with Dana Erdfarb. That conversation was exactly the framework that I needed to snag Justin Leader, my guest today, to come on the pod and really dig into the detail level of what's going on with this claims wire. So, in this healthcare podcast, we're gonna talk about the five fees that tend to be tucked in to many claims wires. We also talk about one bonus—not sure if it's a fee—one bonus way that plan sponsors give money to vendors in ways the plan sponsor might be unaware of. Here are the five hidden fees that we talk about at length in the show today, and then I'll cover the bonus: 1. Shared Savings Fees. This is where a member of a plan goes out of network, and the TPA/ASO goes and negotiates a discount from the out-of-network provider and then shares the savings. Get it? Shared savings? This category also might include BlueCard Access fees, which we talk about in the show. But there also could be overpayment recoupment fees lumped in here. This is where the TPA messes up, overpays, and then charges the plan sponsor a percentage of the money they just got back when they corrected their own mistake. I'm just gonna pause here while everyone contemplates how we've all gone so wrong in life to not have figured out a way to charge others when we correct our own mistakes. Here's a link to a great LinkedIn post by Chris Deacon and a deep dive article on this topic. 2. Prior Auth Fees. Lots to unpack with this one, which Justin does in the pod. 3. Prepayment Integrity Fees. This is evaluation of the claim before it's being paid. Listen to the show for how this may (or may not) differ from what the TPA/ASO is supposed to be doing (ie, it's the TPA that's supposed to be [yeah, right] adjudicating and paying claims). 4. Pay and Chase Fees. This is where a bill was paid wrong, and it's not immediately the TPA/ASO's mistake. This is where something like a provider double billed or overcharged or something, and the TPA/ASO later figures this out and then chases the pay to get the money back. 5. TPA Claims Review Fees. Sort of self-explanatory but also not. Again, please listen to the show for more. When I'd been talking about all of this with Dana Erdfarb, as I mentioned earlier, just about this whole thing, she said something that Justin Leader echoes today: Many of these fees are structured as a percentage of savings. This is challenging for a plan sponsor because the savings is vendor reported and not validated. But it also means that if the savings increase annually with trend (as they, generally speaking, do), then the fees will increase with that trend as well—and that is something to keep in mind. Okay … so, here's the bonus thing that didn't get a number in the show today, but it is certainly a way that plan sponsors pay money to vendors. And this is medical claims spread pricing. This is buried in the claims wire and inside the dollar amounts the plan sponsor thinks they are paying a provider for a service. It turns out that it can turn out that the amount the plan sponsor is paying is more than the check that's being written to the provider for the service being delivered. Or the amount the plan sponsor is paying the provider for a service is more than for simply that service that has been rendered, right? The plan sponsor is paying the provider for other stuff as well, as is alleged in the DOL v BCBS of Minnesota lawsuit, which Justin brings up in the show today. It drives me nuts, honestly, when there are people who tout their transparency. But then it turns out if the equation is A plus B equals C, only like one of the numbers is transparent. Sorry, functionally, that doesn't count as transparency except in marketing copy. This is all to say—and here's Dana Erdfarb's actionable advice which sums up points Justin also made—when employers review their medical plan vendor contracts, they should make sure to identify, review, and document all fees being paid to their vendors and incorporate this knowledge into their renewal/RFP (request for proposal) discussions and negotiations. Jeff Hogan echoed this advice on LinkedIn the other day when he commented on this show: “Such a great opportunity for employers to have their administrative services agreements and other documents examined to discover these schemes. It's not hard to do. Also, a great advertisement for the value of having retrospective audits performed. It is eye opening to see not only the amount of arbitrage but often how payers don't even pay according to their contracts. Justin Leader is the perfect guest.” As mentioned a myriad of times already, my guest today is Justin Leader, who is president and CEO of BenefitsDNA. Justin works with plan sponsors, both commercial plans as well as Taft-Hartley plans, across the United States. Before we kick into the show today, I just want to thank By the 49ers for the really nice review on iTunes. View the Funeral Bulletin for Mitchell FitzgeraldFuneral Service at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday February 14, 2024(Readings start at 6:30, Sermon starts at 11:20)First Reading -- Psalm 118:1-9 Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever! Let Israel say, “His steadfast love endures forever.” Let the house of Aaron say, “His steadfast love endures forever.” Let those who fear the LORD say, “His steadfast love endures forever.” Out of my distress I called on the LORD; the LORD answered me and set me free. The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? The LORD is on my side as my helper; I shall look in triumph on those who hate me. It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes. Second Reading -- Ephesians 2:1-10 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience — among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Third Reading -- Matthew 6:25–33 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?' or ‘What shall we drink?' or ‘What shall we wear?' For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. The Gospel of Mark 5:1-20 They came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gerasenes. And when Jesus had stepped out of the boat, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit. He lived among the tombs. And no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain, for he had often been bound with shackles and chains, but he wrenched the chains apart, and he broke the shackles in pieces. No one had the strength to subdue him. Night and day among the tombs and on the mountains he was always crying out and bruising himself with stones. And when he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and fell down before him. And crying out with a loud voice, he said, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, do not torment me.” For he was saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” And Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” He replied, “My name is Legion, for we are many.” And he begged him earnestly not to send them out of the country. Now a great herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside, and they begged him, saying, “Send us to the pigs; let us enter them.” So he gave them permission. And the unclean spirits came out, and entered the pigs, and the herd, numbering about two thousand, rushed down the steep bank into the sea and were drowned in the sea. The herdsmen fled and told it in the city and in the country. And people came to see what it was that had happened. And they came to Jesus and saw the demon-possessed man, the one who had had the legion, sitting there, clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid. And those who had seen it described to them what had happened to the demon-possessed man and to the pigs. And they began to beg Jesus to depart from their region. As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed with demons begged him that he might be with him. And he did not permit him but said to him, “Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him, and everyone marveled. Welcome, Jesse!    As the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the DC Defenders and the St. Louis Battlehawks during the XFL's 2022-2023 relaunch, Jesse Ackerman orchestrated simultaneous strength programs leading to triumphant seasons. Notably, the Defenders clinched a championship game appearance, with several players seamlessly transitioning to NFL rosters under his direct guidance.   From 2016 to 2020, Jesse served as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL. His integrative approach, blending activation methods, biomechanical analysis, diverse strength modalities, speed development, and sport-specific movement refinement, significantly contributed to the optimal performance of numerous NFL players.    A testament to his methods, a 2019 analysis by Weiss and Paarz Medical Malpractice Attorneys revealed the Falcons as the least injured NFL team during Jesse's three-year tenure. "Total Games Lost" decreased by 10%, and "Injured Reserve" by 12%, solidifying his impact.   Jesse's commitment to excellence extends beyond the NFL. His tenure as a Performance Coach with the 75th Ranger Regiment 1st Battalion showcased his prowess in preparing soldiers for deployment and bridging physical therapy to performance for those recovering from injury. He also crafted a regeneration manual for rangers deployed in challenging environments.   In the collegiate arena from 2007-2015, Jesse's impact reverberated through NCAA Division I Power 5 schools. Notably, he developed the A.R.M. System during this period, initially benefiting quarterbacks and later adapted for law enforcement and military personnel. His versatility as a Football Strength and Conditioning Coach included roles at the University of Florida, The University of Texas, and Iowa State University, where he influenced athletes across multiple sports.   Jesse's coaching journey commenced in 2001, leaving an indelible mark at his high school alma mater, Mentor Lake Catholic High School. His inaugural year as Defensive Line Coach culminated in a 2001 OHSAA Division III State Championship.   A Willowick, Ohio native, Jesse's collegiate years at John Carroll University saw him excel as an All-America Defensive Lineman and Team Captain. His commitment to education includes a Master's in Exercise Science from California University of Pennsylvania, a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and a Bachelor's in Education from John Carroll University.   Beyond accolades, Jesse embraces a holistic training philosophy, advocating for methods beyond traditional strength and conditioning. His dynamic career includes clinic presentations nationwide, reflecting his passion for sharing knowledge.   In Winter Garden, FL, Jesse resides with his devoted wife Christine and their son, DC.   Jesse's Website: https://www.ackermanperformance.com/                     ABOUT THE HOST   Dave Tate is the founder and co-owner of elitefts.com.

In this thought-provoking Aspire to Lead episode, Joshua Stamper had the privilege of sitting down with the incredible Rita Wirtz. Rita shared her wealth of knowledge and experience in education, focusing on three critical themes. First, she emphasized the importance of not labeling students, highlighting how these labels can limit their potential and self-belief. Rita discussed the value of recognizing each student's unique strengths and nurturing a growth mindset. Next, we delved into the concept of feedback over failure. Rita stressed that feedback is a powerful tool in promoting growth and development in students. By reframing failure as feedback, we can create a safe and encouraging learning environment, motivating students to persevere and improve. Rita also underscored the significance of administrators actively immersing themselves in classrooms. She shared her insights on the positive impact of administrators connecting with both students and educators on a personal level. By being present in classrooms, administrators can better understand the dynamics of their schools, foster a sense of community, and make informed decisions that positively influence the educational experience. Join us for a dynamic conversation with Rita Wirtz, and gain valuable insights into reimagining education, providing effective feedback, and the vital role administrators play in creating thriving learning environments. Millions of women will tell you they feel like their muscle disappeared overnight once they hit the menopause transition. It may not technically happen in a 24 hour period, but muscle tissue really does slip away quickly over the perimenopause period. That's a problem because muscle is our metabolic engine and helps us live, play, and perform our best. This week, we sat down with exercise scientist Sam Moore, who was so moved by her athletic mother's experience during perimenopause, she devoted herself to learning as much as she could to help others. She presented her research on body composition, activity, and nutrition in menopause at this year's Female Athlete Conference. We talk all about her research there and much more.Sam Moore is an applied sport scientist and Human Movement Science Doctoral student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's School of Medicine, researching endocrinological topics of applied female athlete sport science. Sam completed her undergraduate degree in Exercise Science and Human Biology from Western Oregon University and her master's degree in Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention from California University of Pennsylvania. Prior to Carolina, Sam was with the NC State Wolfpack from 2019-2021 as the Director of Sport Science and Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach. As the first woman to serve as a Director of Sport Science in the NCAA, Sam implemented a revolutionary and evidence-informed framework of women's specific training design based on the hormonal landscape of the Wolfpack female athletes. Topic: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is trying to control the type of education that Florida students can receive, most recently rejecting an advanced placement course in African-American studies, claiming it was “contrary to Florida law” and “significantly lacking educational value.” The law he is referring to seems to be the "Stop Woke Act" that basically gives him the power to downplay the true racial history of America. This has impacted many educators, but there are some in the state who refuse to back down. Dr. Marvin Dunn, one of the preeminent historians in Florida, is defying DeSantis's law restricting lessons on race. He joins Tavis for a conversation about why he continues to fight to keep Black history alive – even if comes at a personal cost. Bio: A former naval officer, Marvin Dunn is a Professor Emeritus, Department of Psychology at Florida International University, retiring as chairperson of the department in 2006. He has published numerous articles in leading newspapers on race and ethnic relations including the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the Orlando Sentinel and the Miami Herald. He is the author of the following books: The History of Florida: Through Black Eyes, CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform (2016), Black Miami in the Twentieth Century, University Press of Florida (1997). He is the coauthor of This Land is Our Land, California: University of California Press. (2003) and The Miami Riot of 1980: Crossing the Bounds, Lexington, Massachusetts: D.C. Heath (1984). He has produced three documentary films including, “Rosewood Uncovered,” documenting the Rosewood Massacre of 1923, “Murder on the Suwanee: The Willie James Howard Story,” the story of the lynching of a fifteen year old black child in Live Oak, Florida in 1944 and “Black Seminoles in the Bahamas: The Red Bays story” which documents the flight of slaves from Florida escaping to the Bahama Islands in the 1800s and “The Black Miami” based upon his book, Black Miami in the Twentieth Century. He was born and raised in Florida and currently lives in Miami, Florida. In the wake of the killing of George Floyd, Dunn and other community advocates for racial justice founded the Miami Center for Racial Justice. According to Dunn, “ The Miami Center for Racial Justice will be a beacon in our community. We seek to foster a safe space for dialogue on racial issues, to promote unity, and allow for frank confrontation of the history of racial terror through the examination and preservation of stories of racial terror in Florida.”

The Connected Caroline Show

In this episode of  @The Connected Caroline Show , I interview Peggi Cooney, motivational speaker, social worker, and author of the quit-lit book "This Side of Alcohol: Random thoughts and candid words of pain, hope, humor, love." LINKS: ThisSideOfAlcohol.com Facebook: thissideofalcohol Linkedin: Peggi-Cooney Email: thissideofalcohol@gmail.com Peggi Cooney entered the motivational speaking world through her journey to sobriety and her recently published book, This Side of Alcohol: Random thoughts and candid words of pain, hope, humor, love — and all that is possible in sobriety. This Side of Alcohol is borne out of the cathartic journaling she did during the first two years following her break-up with alcohol. It tells the story of what she did to get and stay sober, allowing her to transform her shame, guilt, and anger into self-compassion, self-discovery, and forgiveness – of herself and others. From self-loathing isolation to a joyous community of support and rediscovered intimacy with her family. From living her life engulfed in cognitive dissonance (teaching about the connection between trauma and addiction while she was drinking every evening) to the pride she feels today in being present and authentic in every aspect of her work and life. This Side of Alcohol is her story of living her sobriety out loud, telling the truth, and being at peace... Peggi is a social work instructor/coach for a local California University. She has a Master's degree from California State University at Chico and spent 16 years as a Child Welfare and Adult Protective Services social worker. Peggi has become a sobriety advocate all over the world. She facilitates a weekly recovery support group and is currently working on the development of a sobriety tool to be released in 2022. Peggi has been married to Paul for 35 years. Together they have five children and 12 grandchildren. They make their homes in West Sacramento and Lake Almanor, California.
