This week my guest is Janis Meredith, Founder of Raising Champion Families. Sport parents, this episode is for YOU. And coaches, if you have parents struggling to enjoy watching their kids play, getting all caught up in the hype of "winning and losing", make sure they listen in.As a wife and a mother of 3, she knows what it’s like to try to balance several spinning plates at once—taxi driver for 3 kids who played multiple sports, part-time working mom, supportive high school coach’s wife, volunteer mom—and not have any plates go crashing to the floor.Raising three children who were active sports fanatics from the age of four through college, she developed a passion for helping families raise children who fit that same sports niche. Through the years of blogging, coaching and mentoring sports families, she realized that the needs she was meeting in the specific niche of sports needed to be met in multiple families, whether their kids played sports or not. As a certified life coach, Janis helps families re-establish their connectivity and navigate through their children’s change from childhood to adolescence to adulthood so that they are successfully raising kids who are champions in life.I have partnered with companies like TeamSnap, USA Football, the University of Miami Health System and many others to help families navigate their challenges.I believe strongly that families who are unified and strong can have a great impact on this world. I’m more than a family coach; I’m a family advocate. I understand and value the family unit, and I’ve dedicated my entire career to laying foundations today, that will raise tomorrow’s champions.By partnering with me, you can lay the groundwork to raise children who are strong, compassionate, trustworthy and full of integrity, a family that will make you proud! To sign up for a free consultation today.Email: janis@rcfamilies.comPhone: 239-237-6069

This week my guest is Tim Healy, President/CEO of TackleBar Football, addressing the current crisis in youth football: an alarming 30% reduction in youth participation, with concussions and youth injuries at the center of the discussion. Parents are paying more attention, the numbers are declining, and it is affecting every level of football. TackleBar Football eliminates tackling while still maintaining contact. Players learn the fundamentals of the game while decreasing their chances of concussions and injuries at such a young age. Tim saw this first hand, with over 2000 kids having fun and safely playing TackleBar Football last year, they had ZERO concussions. Moms have told Tim they actually enjoyed watching the game of football once they realized their sons were not going to get hurt."I have been around football my whole life, playing 4 years at St. John’s University and spending the summer of 1987 in the New Orleans Saints training camp—the best two weeks of my life! I coached for 3 years at Roseville High School and over 10 years of youth teams with my 3 sons. I love football. I have learned so many life lessons and made lifelong friends on and around the field. It is sad to know that fewer boys will have this same opportunity to form their character and grow in virtue, perseverance, teamwork, brotherhood, and both mental and physical toughness. I believe that something has to change at the youth level or football will change as we know it. TackleBar Football is the answer. This will save the game we love." - Tim Healyhttps://tacklebar.com/

When the home and coaching environments are united an athlete is given the best possible chance to excel greatly in all areas of life, and that's what Richard makes happen for others. His creative and pioneering work enables coaches to:-help parents manage their expectations in the nonlinear process of talent development.•help parents reinforce the character, mindset and culture of their team.•reduce parent & coach conflict.•support the parents in shaping the resilience and mindset athletes need to navigate the highs and lows of talent development. The challenge comes in engaging parents effectively because optimizing the immense influence parents is not simple or because often there is an uneasy relationship between coach and parent.Without a synchronicity of approach between parents and coaches, potential is easily missed.Richard uses evidence-based strategies to engage with parents.Learn more about Richard at: https://non-perfectdad.co.uk/Or check out his new book: ‘Conversations for the Journey’ priming your child for success on and off the sports field, available at AmazonMore About Richard: Having three lively and energetic children has taught him he’s not a perfect dad! This week my guest is Gordon MacLelland, CEO of ‘Working with Parents in Sport’, a UK-based company that works with sporting organizations globally, providing unbiased information that understands the difficulties that parents and coaches face in today’s world, for the goal of providing children with the best possible sporting experiences. Sport and physical activity should be seen as a lifetime investment for our children, not a short-term gain. More about WWPIS: https://www.parentsinsport.co.uk/A generation ago children went out to play sport for the fun of the game, and if they became successful and were able to make a living from it that was great. It was not the primary motivation for parents setting out their children on their sporting careers. Many young people are giving up sport in their teenage years due to some of the pressures, behaviors put on them by parents during their formative years and they simply fall out of love with sport. It is no longer fun, and that is the primary reason kids want to play sport in the first place. WWPIS helps parents and coaches go back to basics and see sport for what it is, a chance for our children to learn experiences for life: Teamwork, dealing with adversity, friendships, sportsmanship are all valuable traits in life and not just in sport.More About Gordon: Gordon MacLelland set up ‘Working with Parents in Sport’ after 20 years as a teacher and as a coach to all age levels from 7-year olds to adults. He has a BA/Hons degree in Sports Science from University College Chester and a PGCE from Lancaster University. He is a qualified teacher and has been Director of Sport at an independent prep school in the UK for the last 10 years. He has worked in schools in both the UK and New Zealand for the last 16 years. He is the author of two books, ‘Great Sports Parenting’ – A pocket guide for parents of children in sport and ‘Engage’ – A coaches guide to building positive relationships with parents. In recent times he has become a parent to two children and the early sporting experiences of his own children prompted him to set up the company as well as write the two books above. As a speaker he brings a wealth of experience to working with organizations, coaches and parents gathered through 20 years as a teacher and coach as well as a parent currently involved in children’s sport.

They help girls aged 4 to 14 develop their whole selves. Athena Camps is not a traditional sports camp. The goal is to build body-confidence through sports, giving girls a sense of control over their bodies. Research states that elementary age girls should be "sampling" sports rather than specializing, learning skills and a "love for the game", rather than competing. In middle school, we know sports participation boosts girls' self-esteem, provides focus and builds social confidence. At Athena Camps, girls of all ages have fun and successful experiences with sports and are empowered as their athletic ability grows. Creative, girl-focused projects and facilitated group discussions serve as social opportunities to connect and express emotions in a nurturing community.Aby Ryan founded Athena Camps after a successful career as a professional tennis player, collegiate coach, and non-profit executive. With 30 years of experience coaching and developing programs for girl-serving organizations, Aby specializes in youth program development, curriculum design, and innovative strategies to grow strong, expressive, confident young women. When her daughter started kindergarten, Aby Ryan saw a need for a special environment where girls could navigate social pressures, build character, and support each other. She realized the time had come to realize her dream of creating a unique girls’ sports camp. So on June 11, 2011, she launched the first Athena Camp with 27 girls.
