Yesterday, I had the opportunity to interview Food City Athens,AL, Store Manager Andrea Barnes, and I believe you're going to enjoy her story. Andrea's journey began as a part-time cashier in Chattanooga. Through years of hard work, dedication, and leadership, she worked her way up to become the store manager of the new Food City in Athens. She's also right at home in North Alabama. A graduate of Rogers High in Green Hill, Andrea has a daughter who teaches kindergarten in Limestone County, and she's enjoying one of life's greatest blessings, being a grandmother. During our conversation, we talk about the remarkable history of Food City, from Navy veteran Jack Smith purchasing a Piggly Wiggly in Grundy, Virginia, to opening the very first Food City in 1955. We also discuss the incredible response to the Athens grand opening, support from local officials, what customers can expect, the new stores coming to Oneonta and the County Line Road area, Food City's commitment to giving back to the communities they serve, and the incredible team members who have worked tirelessly over the past several days to prepare for and serve our community. Most of all, this is a story about opportunity. It's a reminder that where you begin doesn't have to determine where you finish. On this Make a Difference Minute, I have actor and stuntman Branscombe Richmond as he shares how a simple drive through Athens, Alabama, helped bring the production of Houdini the Magical Dog to the community. While visiting North Alabama, Branscombe asked Ashley Chewning to show him a small town. She brought him to her hometown of Athens, and when he saw the downtown square, something clicked. A conversation with the mayor followed, along with a vision of what bringing film productions to Athens could mean for the city, its businesses, and its people. Now, that vision is becoming reality as Houdini the Magical Dog is filmed in Athens. During our conversation, I also had the opportunity to share my own connection to the city. After moving away when I was nine years old, I always hoped I would someday find my way back home. Years later, I did. Pat Lamar is a highly respected personal injury lawyer who has been practicing law in North Alabama for a long time. He is now with the esteemed law firm of Conchin, Cole, Jordan and Sherrod located in Huntsville, Alabama.  I have known Pat for many years, and I first learned of him through my law partner, Brad Botes.  Brad and Pat met right out of law school when both served in federal clerkships here in Huntsville with U.S. District Court Judge E.B. Haltom, Jr.  I almost forgot until late in the podcast that Pat is a talented golfer who has been a fixture at Valley Hill Country Club for many years, including serving as past president of the club.  I enjoyed getting to know Pat's story on this episode of the podcast.
