J. Henry Tate is an author, former private investigator, and longtime North Alabama resident whose debut novel, Echoes of Betrayal: Protocol Clean Slate, draws inspiration from an extraordinary chapter of his own life.Before becoming an author, Tate worked as a private investigator in Huntsville, Alabama, during the 1980s. What began as a seemingly routine domestic investigation unexpectedly developed into something much larger—an international espionage case that ultimately involved the U.S. State Department. For decades, Tate considered telling the story as nonfiction, but the complexities surrounding the real events made that difficult. After retiring from the mortgage industry, he ultimately decided to transform those experiences into fiction.The result is Echoes of Betrayal: Protocol Clean Slate, a mystery, espionage, and suspense thriller centered on Jack Campbell, an African American private investigator based in Alabama. Campbell's life is turned upside down when his boss and best friend, Daniel Draper, is shot in front of his family. What initially appears to be an isolated act of violence soon connects back to a previous investigation involving an Army captain and his Air Force wife—and ultimately pulls Campbell into a dangerous world of international espionage, government secrets, hidden identities, betrayal, and threats to national security.Published in 2024, Echoes of Betrayal: Protocol Clean Slate is Tate's first published novel. The 242-page thriller combines elements of mystery and espionage with questions surrounding loyalty, morality, relationships, technology, and the difficulty of knowing whom to trust when appearances can be deliberately deceiving.Tate's influences include authors such as John Grisham, Lee Child, Mark Dawson, and Cindy Dees. He has also indicated that Echoes of Betrayal may not be the end of Jack Campbell's story, with another installment involving the character among his planned writing projects.Beyond writing, Tate has had a varied professional career that has included private investigation and many years in the mortgage industry. He has also been involved in his North Alabama community, including serving as a longtime volunteer and former board member with Habitat for Humanity of Madison County.In this episode of Our Town, Troy sits down with J. Tonight's first guest, Derin Franks, had his Bigfoot sighting in the William B. Bankhead National Forest, in North Alabama, in 2017. It happened on the last day of deer hunting season. Derin had just walked to the edge of a greenfield when he decided to sit down on a log, just inside the tree line. As he sat there, taking everything in, he suddenly heard a limb snap about 12 yards over his right shoulder. When he heard it, he stood up and turned around. When he did, he couldn't believe his eyes…Tonight's second guest, Catman Hero, had his Bigfoot sighting on August 8th, 2016. It happened at a campsite in Middle Tennessee while he was participating in a nighttime field investigation. He was with Randy Hutchings, a very experienced field investigator, and another investigator named Josh.After arriving at the campsite, the three men walked about two to three miles into the woods before Randy, who was leading the investigation, told Catman and Josh to stop. Randy explained that, when he gave the word, he wanted them to turn on their lights and scan the woods for eyeshine.When Randy gave the signal, all three men turned on their lights and began scanning the woods. Almost immediately, Randy and Josh noticed something hiding behind a tree branch. Jonathan Berryhill is a former US Army infantry sergeant and law enforcement officer turned real estate entrepreneur, broker, and multifamily investor. He has built multiple seven and eight figure businesses, three real estate brokerages, and a team of over 50 agents. Attorney Jimmy Sandlin is a highly experienced family law attorney practicing throughout North Alabama. Tonight on The Mark White Show! On the first two segments, I'll be talking with Maximo “Max” Villagomez at Gabriela's Latin Fusion in Athens, Alabama. Born and raised in the South American country of Ecuador, Max has brought the flavors of Latin America to North Alabama in a big way! We'll talk about his journey from Ecuador, the story behind Gabriela's Latin Fusion, and what it means to build a business and become part of the community here in North Alabama. After that, in the Mary Faye Headrick Good Deed Segment, we'll travel to Colombia, Ecuador's neighbor, where I'll be talking with Wes Madrigal following the powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck the region yesterday. Wes, his wife, and their baby daughter are in Manizales, Colombia, where they have a coffee farm. Thankfully, his family is safe and their home is intact, but others in the community have not been as fortunate. Friends and family have lost their homes, and Wes is organizing an effort to help provide food, temporary shelter, rebuilding assistance, and support for a local animal shelter. Real stories.
