Allow me to introduce myself as the curator of this grisly collection.Besides my little introduction, I've included a short story here for you from Lord Dunsany: "The Ghosts."Edward Plunkett, 18th Baron of Dunsany, is one of the earliest and most influential examples of fantasy and dark fiction writers. His works are notable and many, but some of the most popular include “The King of Elfland's Daughter” (1924), “The Gods of Pegana” (1905), and “The Sword of Welleran” (1908). In this story, Lord Dunsany uses the typical human tendency to question the hereafter and what it entails – specifically its inhabitants. With a simple short story, he probes the human condition, our frailties, and our fears.Narrator: Russell Archey https://www.ravonmedia.com/Music By: Lucas King https://www.youtube.com/c/LucasKingPianoMusic/featured

In the lost lands of the central sea, a place beyond time, perhaps even existing only in dreams, there is a place where the people have a god they do not worship, lest his waking end the world. Their faith was described in two books and several stories written at the turn of the century by an Irish nobleman that have left a deep mark on the modern fantasy genre, even though he remains obscure outside of genre circles. But Lord Dunsany is likely "your favourite fantasy author's favourite fantasy author". Join us as we explore his Pegana mythos..Support us on Patreon and listen to the show a week early! American filmmaker Rodney Ascher is a master of the weird documentary. Whether he be exploring wild interpretations of a classic horror film in Room 237, bracketing the phenomenon of sleep paralysis in The Nightmare, studying the uncanny power of the moving image in "Primal Screen," or considering the sinister power of a kitschy logo in "The S from Hell," Ascher confronts his viewers with realities that resist final explanations and facile reduction. In this episode, Phil and JF follow Ascher's films into the living labyrinth of a strange universe that isn't just unknown, but radically unknowable. The Book of Wonder, The Essential Lord Dunsany Collection, The Gods of Pegana, The King of Elfland's Daughter, Lord Dunsany Compendium, and The Sword of Welleran and Other Tales. Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett, 18th Baron of Dunsanyborn 1878, died 1957 Lord Dunsany was an Irish writer and dramatist, notable for his work, mostly in fantasy, published under the name Lord Dunsany. More than eighty books of his work were published, and his oeuvre includes many hundreds of published short stories, as well as successful plays, novels and essays. He is considered a major influence on the work of J. R. R. Tolkien, H. P. Lovecraft, and Ursula K. Le Guin. Born to the second-oldest title (created 1439) in the Irish peerage, Dunsany lived much of his life at perhaps Ireland's longest-inhabited home, Dunsany Castle near Tara, worked with W.B. Yeats and Lady Gregory, received an honorary doctorate from Trinity College, was chess and pistol-shooting champion of Ireland, and travelled and hunted extensively. He died in Dublin after an attack of appendicitis. Dunsany began writing in the late 1890s and "burst onto the publishing scene" with The Gods of Pegana in 1905. His first stories were set in an invented world with its own gods, history and geography. Dunsany eventually began writing novels and his most well-known novel, The King of Elfland's Daughter, was published in 1924 and is the inspiration of Neil Gaiman's film, Stardust.
