I wonder if this ever happens to you. Maybe you're visiting someone and you're staying overnight. Or you're on a trip and you're staying in a hotel or an Airbnb. And that first time you wake up, you have a brief few seconds where you're a little disoriented. Like, “Hey, where am I? This is not my bedroom. This is not my bed”. For the podcast, I typically don't do stories that are mainly centered around the guest being in a coma. It's an interesting concept for sure, but just the fact that someone was in a coma would make for a difficult episode. I mean, how can you tell a detailed story when you were asleep for most of it? Today we're going to hear from Scott. He was in a coma for a while. And then he had that experience of trying to figure out “why am I in a hospital...what is going on”. But his story is not really about him being in a coma. It's about what the doctor told him when he woke up. It seems overall, you tend to recommend less animal foods in the diet. Not that you have anything against them per se, but its likely based on some of the research I'm sure youve looked at on longetvity as well as environmental and moral reasons. Intsead of consuming a lot of animals, you eat a lot of plants, and supplement your way to nutrients. This seems odd to me, although I understand the reasoining. I venture to say, there are so many things in animal foods we dont even know of yet, just like at one time we didnt know about b vitamins, or prebiotics in breast milk etc. It just seems like a modern of way making this work, avoiding the animal food and band aiding it with supplements. I get that the soil is deplted etc, but still. Can you clarify here. My question is: do you have a lab/test you recommend for mold and mycotoxin testing outside of EquiLife? I am an IHP L2 based in Seattle, WA and  cannot obtain EquiLife tests in WA state still. In the past 18 months I have completed the CBO protocol twice to rid myself of SIBO, E. Coli and H. Pylori (including heal + seal post CBO) and have leveraged your protocols to rebalance my hormones after a partial thyroidectomy, however I still have persistent inflammation, puffiness in my face, post nasal drip and my H Pylori recently returned for the third time. I've also had new onset of hives that turn into pustules that antihistamines do not address. We had severe water damage in our home in 2022 (in our bedroom and attached bathroom) and I am wondering if mold or environmental issues are my true root cause given the work I've already done. I travel extensively overseas for work (2-3 weeks at a time) and symptoms are always better when I am away from my home. I am planning to have our house tested for mold but want to test my body too if you believe it is warranted. Most people assume they're being proactive about their health because they get an annual physical and a standard blood panel. A few numbers come back "normal," the doctor gives a thumbs-up, and that's the end of the conversation.  The problem is that those labs are often incomplete and disconnected from how people actually live, train, eat and recover. Many of the markers that matter most for long-term metabolic health and inflammation — like fasting insulin and high-sensitivity CRP — are routinely excluded. So what you're left with are numbers that often only flag problems once things are already far off track.  On top of that, testing once a year gives you no meaningful sense of trends, context, or direction. This episode looks at a more practical approach: identifying the biomarkers that actually reflect metabolic health, inflammation, hormonal balance and recovery, and finding ways to test them regularly without relying on one-off lab work.  It also addresses why timing, training load, and recent stress matter when you get blood drawn — and how ignoring those variables can lead to misleading results and unnecessary concern. The broader point is simple: meaningful blood work isn't just about collecting more data. Have you ever had a feeling of impending doom? Like you just knew something bad was about to happen? Quite a few years ago, I was in New York City. I went with a friend to a late comedy show, and when it was over we got on the subway to get back to the hotel. This was pretty late, like 2 am or maybe even later. We were on the train, waiting for the doors to close. Personally, I was feeling fine. But my friend, Teri, was more aware of our surroundings. There were a few other people on the train and she did not feel comfortable at all. She said that we needed to get off the train before the doors closed. So we did. I didn't get it at the time. But Teri just had this bad feeling that something was about to happen and it was not going to turn out well for us. But whatever it was, we took a taxi instead and got back safely. My guest today is Jessica. She is an avid rock climber out in the Pacific Northwest. She was involved in setting up a climbing event for hundreds of people, and she just kept having this feeling that something was very wrong. And she was right.
