Join Matt and me for Episode 134 as we tackle A Chorus Line (1985), a movie musical that boldly asked, “What if we took a Broadway masterpiece… and made it worse?” Directed by Richard Attenborough (yes, really) and starring Michael Douglas as Zach (also… yes, really), this adaptation swaps out two iconic songs for original numbers that absolutely no one asked for—and makes the whole thing feel more like an 80s street dance audition than a tribute to Broadway's beating heart.Gone is the original choreography. Gone is the emotional depth. What's left? Perms, sweatbands, and a lot of bewildered sighing from us. We break down the baffling choices, the missed opportunities, and why this one might just top our list of “what were they thinking?” movie musicals.Support the Conner & Smith Show on Patreon here:https://www.patreon.com/ConnerandSmith?utm_campaign=creatorshare_fan

Dennis is joined via Zoom by author and sex worker David Wichman to talk about his new book The Four Rooms: An Inqueery On Sexual Freedom and Well-Being. David talks about why he wanted to write the book, the struggles he faced along the way to publishing it and how, once it was finished, he delighted in having AI read it to him in the plummy British voice of actor-director Richard Attenborough. David also talks about why he calls his book "a non-self help book," and how he tries in his writing and his sex work to create a place where gay men can take down their armor. Other topics include: being intentionally smiley in bathhouses and sex clubs, the sacredness of gay divas like Madonna and Kylie Minogue, hearing from fans of his sexual videos from places where being gay is illegal like Syria, being a superfan of Florence + The Machine, why he doesn't have an arrogant guru vibe, what his many exotic travel adventures have taught him about America, digging deep to write his previous book, the memoir Every Grain of Sand and how Stevie Nicks saved his life. www.davidsworld.me
Cita a Hemingway: el cantante británico Chris De Burgh, nacido en Argentina y nacionalizado irlandés (It´s Me - An I´m Ready To Go 1997); la cantante de country Juice Newton (I´m Dancing As Fast As I Can 1982); así como la neoyorquina Lana del Rey (Religion 2015).

We spent a recorded hour with esteemed journalist and editor Perry Garfinkle, author of the bestselling Buddha or Bust and the recently published Becoming Gandhi. Perry spoke of his quest to find morality in Gandhi's life and work and Gandhi's six principles and the differences between being and becoming – the latter presupposing the infinite in practice. Perry spoke of the Mahatma's lack of understanding of his own sexuality as well as his belief in goodness, which Perry labeled "pollyannaish." He was able to mix criticism of Gandhi and his principles, including naivete about social violence in man's nature and less sophistication in Gandhi than in the Buddha, with high respect for Gandhi's deep understanding of human suffering and the need for compassion and empathy with an enduring belief in passive resistance as a means to change. Perry spoke of religious differences in India and Gandhi's letters to Hitler, which went unanswered, and the media's overplay of an incident involving the Dali Lama, who wrote the Foreword to Perry's book, and a young boy. Michael and Perry also discuss the efficacy in today's world of passive resistance and links to Thoreau and Martin Luther King, as well as fasting and the impact of Richard Attenborough's famous film about the Mahatma and the Mahatma's essential twin pillars of truth and non-violence. Perry concluded by calling himself a cynic by profession but one who felt heartened as a result of being changed by studying Gandhi and striving to be "Perry 2.0."
This episode we are covering the 1993 blockbuster Jurassic Park! Of course we talk about our favourite dinosaurs, but we also discuss the movie's multi-genre approach to the blockbuster, the casting choices, the ethics of genetic manipulation, bare-chested Jeff Goldblum, and more! I Love This You Should Too is hosted by Samantha & Indy Randhawa Jurassic Park is a 1993 American science fiction action film directed by Steven Spielberg, produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Gerald R. Molen, and starring Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Richard Attenborough. It is the first installment in the Jurassic Park franchise, and the first film in the original Jurassic Park trilogy, and is based on Michael Crichton's 1990 novel of the same name, with a screenplay by Crichton and David Koepp. The film is set on the fictional island of Isla Nublar, off Central America's Pacific Coast near Costa Rica, where a wealthy businessman John Hammond (Attenborough), and a team of genetic scientists have created a wildlife park of de-extinct dinosaurs. When industrial sabotage leads to a catastrophic shutdown of the park's power facilities and security precautions, a small group of visitors, including Hammond's grandchildren, struggle to survive and escape the now perilous island.

BREAK: CU of GA STORY 1: Judge Extends Cobb Judicial Emergency for Another 30 Days Chief Judge Gregory Poole has extended the "extraordinary" judicial emergency in Cobb County for 30 more days due to ongoing issues in the Cobb Superior Court Clerk's office, led by Connie Taylor. The emergency, initially declared on August 7, now extends to October 6. The extension addresses severe dysfunction in processing and managing court filings, compounded by a problematic transition from the old CRIS system to the new Icon system. While there has been some progress, issues such as scheduling difficulties, inaccurate notices, and backlog remain. Taylor's office faces staffing shortages and other challenges, with ongoing criticism and a state investigation into her handling of passport fees. STORY 2: Commission Kills ‘Home Rule' Map, Keeps Richardson On Tuesday night, the Cobb County Board of Commissioners decided to abandon its controversial "home rule" map, opting to use the state map instead, following a court ruling declaring the home rule map unconstitutional. However, the board voted against declaring Commissioner Jerica Richardson's seat vacant, allowing her to remain in office for now. There is ongoing debate about whether Richardson's term will end on December 31 or extend until her successor is elected. The situation remains legally ambiguous, with differing opinions on how long Richardson can serve. The board is moving forward to resolve the confusion and conclude the long-standing dispute over the district maps. STORY 3: 1 Injured in Tritt Elementary School Fire A fire at Tritt Elementary School early Tuesday morning, caused by an HVAC issue, led to one person being hospitalized for smoke inhalation. No students were in the building, as it was early in the day. Cobb Fire and Emergency Services quickly extinguished a small fire from an AC unit. Students were relocated to Hightower Trail Middle School for the day. Regular school operations are expected to resume the next day, with updated dismissal plans provided to parents. The school district thanked the fire department for their swift response. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.799.6810 for more info. Curtis's 2020 Honda Civic crossed the median into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a 2019 Toyota Rav-4 driven by Dominique Najhawan, 27, of Grovetown. Curtis was pronounced dead at the scene, while Najhawan suffered minor injuries and was taken to Kennestone Hospital. The cause of the lane deviation is under investigation. Cobb County Police are seeking additional information from witnesses. STORY 5: Patricia B. Terwilliger Family Foundation Sponsors Habitat Home On August 24, construction began on a Habitat for Humanity home in Austell, sponsored by the Patricia B. Terwilliger Family Foundation. Established in 2003, the foundation, led by Patricia and her daughters Tracy and Bonnie, focuses on supporting women and children's issues. The Terwilliger family, known for their long-time involvement with Habitat for Humanity and support for veterans, will actively participate in building the home alongside the future homeowner. Indy loves Donald Glover's poignant, surrealist, dark comedy series Atlanta, Samantha recommends The Things We Leave Unfinished, an emotional multi-generational novel by Rebecca Yarros, and we preview next week's big watch the seminal childhood summer blockbuster Jurassic Park! I Love This You Should Too is hosted by Samantha & Indy Randhawa Atlanta is an American comedy-drama television series created by Donald Glover. The series follows college dropout and music manager Earnest "Earn" Marks (Glover) and rapper Alfred "Paper Boi" Miles (Brian Tyree Henry) as they navigate a strange, seemingly otherworldly Atlanta hip hop scene. Atlanta also stars LaKeith Stanfield as Darius, Earn and Alfred's eccentric friend, and Zazie Beetz as Vanessa "Van" Kiefer, Earn's on-again-off-again girlfriend and the mother of his daughter. Rebecca Yarros is an American author. She is best known for the Empyrean fantasy book series, which will be adapted into a television series with Amazon; Yarros will serve as a non-writing executive producer. Yarros graduated from Troy University, where she studied European history and English. Jurassic Park is a 1993 American science fiction action film directed by Steven Spielberg, produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Gerald R. Molen, and starring Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Richard Attenborough. Christi Dodge and Mike Dodge discuss the 1985 film "A Chorus Line," directed by Richard Attenborough and starring Michael Douglas, Terence Mann, and Audrey Landers. They analyze the film's cinematography, character development, and the use of a silhouetted director to create a mysterious figure. They note the film's realistic style, the use of full-length mirrors on stage, and the challenges of highlighting dancers in a crowded scene. They also discuss the film's financial performance, which was lackluster despite a $25 million budget, and its mixed critical reception. The hosts reflect on the film's impact and its place in the history of movie musicals. Feel free to send us a message! What did you think of this movie? Of this episode? Andrew and Scotty try their hand at a little ventriloquism as they discuss the 1978 thriller, "Magic". They also talk about creepy dolls and Scotty chooses their next movie at the end of the episode!"Magic" was directed by Richard Attenborough and stars Anthony Hopkins as Corky, a man who starts to make it big with his magic/ventriloquism act. When he drives off to a secluded cabin resort, we start to realize there's more to his dummy, Fats, then we previously thought.Support us on Patreon! - https://www.patreon.com/FunWithHorrorPodcastFollow us on social media:Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/groups/396586601815924Twitter - https://twitter.com/funwhorrorInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/fun_with_horror_podcast/FWH + Fangoria collab:For 20% off at the Fango Shop, just enter FUN_WITH_HORROR_PODCAST at checkout!
Send us a Text Message.Katie and Bridget go back to the dino island (but not the SAME dino island) as they re-watch the lackluster sequel: The Lost World: Jurassic Park! Hey remember how the first Jurassic Park taught us to fear dinosaurs and never interact with them because man vs. nature blah blah? Well guess what - we're gonna go interact with them cause we forgot about all the death and destruction and instead are like YAY DINOS! Come along with Ian Malcolm, the only returning main character from the first movie! Through some spared-no-expense nonsense ala John Hammond, Ian ends up back with the dinos to go rescue his girlfriend who's been camping there alone for 4 days... Yes that's right, camping alone with DINOS... For four days... She might not have even had a tent, we're not really sure! But it's okay because we have some new characters like Nick Van Owen, the alleged back up plan (but we have doubts), Eddie Carr, the tech guy who gets viscously murdered, Kelly, a step-daughter who should have just stayed in the High-Hide, and InGen people, who just could not care less that they are seeing dinosaurs in real life. With that set up how could you go wrong!? Released in 1997, it was once again directed by Steven Spielberg, and features Jeff Goldblum, Julianne Moore, Pete Postlethwaite, Vince Vaughn, Arliss Howard, Richard Attenborough, Vanessa Chester, and Richard Schiff.
On the Saturday June 8, 2024 edition of The Richard Crouse Show we'll meet George Miller. He has made pigs talk and penguins tap dance. He's been a doctor and a film director. Among the bold-faced names on his resume are the titles “Babe: A Pig in the City,” “The Witches of Eastwick,” “Happy Feet” and “Lorenzo's Oil.” One name, however, looms larger than the rest. “Mad Max.” He returned to theatres recently with “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” his fifth Mad Max inspired film in 45 years. A mix of Norse and Greek mythology set against an apocalyptic backdrop, and set 15 to 20 years before the events of “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” is a high-octane origin story. Kidnapped from the Place of Great Abundance by Warlord Dementus's (Chris Hemsworth) henchmen, young Furiosa (played by Alyla Browne as a child, Anya Taylor-Joy as an adult) vows vengeance for the death of her mother as warlords Immortan Joe (Lachy Hulme) and Dementus vie for supremacy of the Wasteland. It's a pedal-to-the-metal epic, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” follows the big-block engine power of “Fury Road” with a film that brings a backstory to the strong-willed Furiosa (Taylor-Joy). As expected, Miller delivers a high-octane apocalyptic tale with a fierce Taylor-Joy and charismatic warlord Hemsworth, that features action scenes that'll make your eyes pop out of their sockets. We'll also meet Simon Lewis, author of the book “Making 'A Bridge Too Far” which takes a deep dive into the making of what many people call, the greatest World War II movie of all time. Just ahead of the 80th anniversary of Operation Market Garden, which happened in September 1944 when the Allies attempted to capture several strategically important bridges in the Netherlands in the hope of breaking the German lines, comes the book which details the making of the movie based on the famous military maneuver. In recreating Operation Market Garden on film, director Richard Attenborough enlisted a company of actors and trained them to behave like soldiers. These actors underwent weapons training and were trusted to bring authenticity to their roles, a groundbreaking approach that hadn't been tried before.

It's no trick (and not just because April Fools' Day was yesterday): We really are doing Jurassic Park (1993) on our latest episode. Though many have questioned whether or not the Steven Spielberg classic technically counts as horror, we're ready to put the matter to bed, tuck it in tight, and wish it sweet dinosaur dreams... or at least terrifying T-Rex nightmares. Because let's be real — this flick freaked us all out as kids, and given the fact that it's a movie about the OG monsters, it definitely meets Spooky Tuesday's standards. No one can take on three raptors alone, though, which is why we invited Why the Flick?'s Claire White to be our guide on this dangerous expedition. Follow Why the Flick? on Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok at @whytheflick. Check out their new episodes every other week on Apple and Spotify. BIG NEWS, SPOOKIES!We're getting a makeover!! Our new official look is here — and so is our merch store! That's right: We've got new art AND hats, shirts, and sweatshirts to match. Starting March 26 at 12:00 a.m. PST, our shop is open for presales. Magic is misdirection, and Richard Attenborough and William Goldman do a terrific job of misdirecting the audience in this 1978 thriller. Join us for a conversation about a film so unsettling that even the TV spot (featured at the start of the episode) caused people to run from their living rooms. George Feltenstein of the Warner Archive joins the podcast to review six films from the 1990s to 2000 that released for the first time on Blu-ray. We start with the animated "Rover Dangerfield," (1991) where Rodney Dangerfield's hallmark humor is impeccably tailored to tickle the funny bones of both kids and adults alike. Next we review the first film released by MTV Films, "Joe's Apartment," (1996) starring a young Jerry O'Connell and a host of singing cockroaches. From December we start with the excellent, "Saving Grace" (2000), a Indie darling that should not be forgotten, with standout performances from Brenda Blethyn and Craig Ferguson. We then review the romp "A Midwinter's Tale" (1995), directed by Kenneth Branagh. This mock-u-mentary style film is a delightful look behind-the-scenes of indie Shakespearean theater. We wrap up our reviews with two films released in November. First is the historical drama "Rapa-Nui" (1994) from Kevin Costner's Tig Productions and directed by Kevin Reynolds. Filmed on location on Easter Island, this story of Polynesian history is a visual and dramatic delight. And our last film is the historical romance "In Love and War" (1996) starring Sandra Bullock and Chris O'Donnell and directed by Richard Attenborough. This beautifully shot film is based on the true-life romance of a young Earnest Hemingway and his experiences in Italy during World War I.We provide a review of each film, the restoration, and all of the extras to help you decide if you want to add it to your physical media collection.Purchase links:ROVER DANGERFIELD (1991) Blu-rayJOE'S APARTMENT (1996) Blu-raySAVING GRACE (2000) Blu-rayA MIDWINTER'S TALE (1995) Blu-rayRAPA-NUI (1994) Blu-rayIN LOVE AND WAR (1996) Blu-ray The Extras Facebook pageThe Extras Twitter Warner Archive & Warner Bros Catalog GroupOtaku Media produces podcasts, behind-the-scenes extras, and media that connect creatives with their fans and businesses with their consumers. Issues covered: the funhouse mirror, writing the weird things on the whiteboards, voice acting, a game lost to time, the inner monologue, some good set up of a level, the invisible blocking wall surrounding Hammond's, box lifting master, weird technical friction about saves, looking for the white keycard, a misaligned bookshelf and visual language, the green disc, the personal memoir, rubbing the disc on the drive, the keycard mess, finding an alternate solution, immersive sim stuff, parallel developments, shining a light on something you didn't know you wanted, the preset objects, restoring forces, deconstructing what the designers put to place your own, contrivances, more keys that aren't keys, not leaning on the license, a more straightforward puzzle, 526327, the extending weird finger, modeling "dexterity," throwing the keycard in the Atlantic, a helpful (?) velociraptor, pressure plates in the ruins, playing something mid-development, games that should be canceled, deals that forced the game out, breaking your game while you build it, getting better at making the game, hitting the board in the wrong place, setting up the physics and seeing the world a certain way, shaking the Jell-O, letting the Jell-O settle, learning how to kite the dinosaurs, spawning three dinosaurs, making terrible mistakes, choosing appropriate goals, not knowing if a thing is possible, mashing up things, being aspirational, leading the way, admiring the purity, dinosaur ecology, getting to see something like this, being consistent in your rules, providing clarity. Well as you know, I've always thought we went a podcast too far...The Film Nerds are here with a deep examination of one of the greatest forgotten war epics of all time - and one of the biggest independent productions in the industry's history. Hear the history of how the Allies arrived at Operation Market Garden, how legendary producer Joseph E Levine got hooked on the story of the battle & compelled the film forward, how the tale of hubris & Pyrrhic victory struggled to connect with the audiences of the 1970s, and much more! Our early season foray into epic filmmaking gets an independent twist that you won't want to miss!
SIDE HUSTLE 12: RICHARD ATTENBOROUGH AIN'T NO DUMMYOnly four episodes left in our epic season ten, talking side hustles. While we mostly have discussed directors better known as actors, this week we talk Richard Attenborough, who, if not for Jurassic Park, would probably be better known as a director today. But he was a great actor! And not just when playing billionaire softy grandpas that accidentally upturn the biological order of an entire planet because he wanted his grandkids to have cuddly raptors. He was legitimately a great actor. BRIGHTON ROCK (1948) is the first of two movies based on books with scripts credited to the author of the books themselves, and not some schmuck (this one is by Graham Greene. Directed by John Boulting, Rock has Attenborough in one of his greatest roles as Pinkie Brown, a nasty hood on the rise in the titular town of Brighton between world wars. It's a fairly grim film with Attenborough seething malice at nearly every turn. He's so good! MAGIC (1978) was a bit of a breather for Attenborough, the director, as he worked to get his passion project, a tiny indie film no one ever saw called GANDHI, made and re-teamed with producer Joseph E. Levine and author/screenwriter William Goldman, both of whom worked with Attenborough on 1977's epic A BRIDGE TOO FAR, for something quite small by comparison, a thriller about a magician who mysteriously rises to fame once he brings a dummy, named Fats, into his act and then decamps to his old hometown right before his big breakthrough to stalk a high school crush. The magician, Corky, is played by Anthony Hopkins and the crush by a dressed down Ann-Margret. Fats generally steals the show as things go from creepy to violent. It's great! Co-host Ken read the book and spills on all the changes made from page to screen (spoiler: not much). Ken and Thomas discuss the rest of Attenborough's career as one of the few great actors who moved away successfully from acting to be full time great directors. Bonus: Fats joins us!THEME SONG BY: WEIRD A.I.Email: thegoodthepodandtheugly@gmail.comFacebook: https://m.facebook.com/TGTPTUInstagram: https://instagram.com/thegoodthepodandtheugly?igshid=um92md09kjg0Twitter: https://twitter.com/thegoodthepoda1YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6mI2plrgJu-TB95bbJCW-gBuzzsprout: https://thegoodthepodandtheugly.buzzsprout.com/Letterboxd (follow us!):Ken: Ken KoralJack: jackk1096
There is something undeniably freaky about puppets and mannequins. This time in the cave we look at two movies which feature this fact at the core of their stories. We start off with "Magic" from 1978. Directed by Richard Attenborough and starring true Hollywood heavyweights Anthony Hopkins, Ann-Margaret and Burgess Meredith, and with a script by the legendary William Goldman, based on his own novel...it's no suprise that it's great! This is a dark tale of derangement and psychosis, with young Anthony Hopkins turning in a powerful performance. It's great, watch it! We follow that with 1988's "Pin" from director Sandor Stern. This is a bizarre family drama where a strict father has convinced his children that the medical mannequin in his office can speak. Using ventriliquism, he lets the mannequin handle key moments of fatherly advice and this produces two VERY disturbed children who grow up to be VERY disturbed teenagers. It's weird and disturbing but also well-shot and assembled. Listen in to find out if it sounds like it's for you. We then proceed to list the various things we've been watching for fun. Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes. You can email us at flickersfrom@yahoo.com or flickersfrom@gmail.com. You can also reach us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Sorry about the audio quality. There were some technical issues that have been resolved, but we didn't realize until we had finished recording.
Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we begin a new series on 1998's Dreamworks Interactive title, Trespasser.
