You can read their statements at PrisonersForPalestine.org and check out our November 30, 2025 episode for some background on the cases. Xinachtli From Xinachtli's support crew (Instagram at @FreeXinachtliNow): On January 1, Xinachtli (state name Alvaro Luna Hernandez) was transferred to the Carol Young Medical Facility. In the moment, this was a major victory getting him moved from McConnell, and Xinachtli shared that he felt the power of the people! However this victory was short-lived. The transfer was carried out without any notice to his attorney, and made Xinachtli unable to communicate with them before his latest court hearing on January 6, effectively blocking his right to counsel. Within days of the transfer, we also learned that Xinachtli had been placed in a cell with no running water, and a broken sink and toilet. In Xinachtli's words: "They bring me a bowl of water. I first use it to drink, and then I use the rest for hygiene for the remainder of the day. I also have not been able to flush the toilet in days. Prison conditions in the U.S. are deeply dehumanizing. For Xinachtli, who is attempting to recover after months of medical neglect, these conditions risk further delaying his recovery and compounding the harm he has already endured. We know that applying pressure works. A director of TDCJ called organizers earlier this month begging for an end to the "hundreds of calls." Contrary to their request, we will not stop until Xinachtli is FREE. Xinachtli's current demands are: That he be moved to a cell with running water and functioning plumbing. That he receive his ID card so he can purchase needed items and receive his commissary order from January 2. That he receive all of his personal property from the McConnell Unit. To learn how to advocate for these three FAM leaders now at Kilby CI and read the press release announcing the upcoming strike actions, check our shownotes : following their announcement of an upcoming labor strike, Melvin Ray, Robert Earl Council (Kinetik Justice), and Raoul Poole — three prominent voices in the film "The Alabama Solution" — were taken to Kilby Prison. In anticipation of the strike, the AL Dept. of Corrections has also reduced access to food in its prisons. This is a dangerous violation of [prisoners] constitutional rights. The Press Release announcing the strike is here: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 2, 2025 FREE ALABAMA MOVEMENT (FAM) ANNOUNCES STATEWIDE SHUTDOWN ADOC 2026 Effective February 8, 2026 Alabama — The Free Alabama Movement (FAM) announces a coordinated, statewide shutdown of Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) facilities beginning February 8, 2026. This nonviolent action comes in response to decades of unconstitutional sentencing practices, forced prison labor, and the ongoing humanitarian crisis throughout Alabama's prison system. With the release of the documentary The Alabama Solution, state officials can no longer deny or ignore the overwhelming evidence that Alabama's prison system is in catastrophic failure and requires immediate, sweeping reform. The documentary exposes systemic corruption, violence, and deliberate neglect that incarcerated people have endured for generations. The truth is no longer hidden behind prison walls — it is publicly available, undeniable, and morally urgent. Despite federal investigations, DOJ findings, and repeated warnings, the State of Alabama has failed to enact meaningful change. Therefore, incarcerated people across the state are exercising their lawful right to peaceful protest through a statewide shutdown and work stoppage. LIST OF DEMANDS Repeal Alabama's Habitual Felony Offender Act (HFOA) Abolish the outdated and excessively punitive enhancement statute that has produced life and virtual-life sentences far beyond any rehabilitative purpose and out of step with modern standards of justice. Make the Presumptive Sentencing Guidelines Retroactive Apply current presumptive sentencing standards to all eligible prior convictions so that people sentenced under older, harsher laws can receive the same fair and consistent treatment as those sentenced today. Make HJR 575 Retroactive (Drive-By Shooting Statute Reform) Apply the legislative clarification of Alabama's drive-by shooting statute retroactively so that individuals who were improperly charged or enhanced under the statute can receive review and relief. First-Time Offender / Capital Murder Reform Bill Create revised sentencing options for first-time offenders and end Juvenile Life Without Parole by providing parole eligibility after 20 years, recognizing the capacity for growth, change, and rehabilitation. Parole Board Reform and Clear, Objective Criteria Mandate transparent written standards, meaningful hearings, and review procedures that ensure fair, non-arbitrary parole decisions for every eligible incarcerated person. Medical Furlough & Compassionate Release Expansion Expand and enforce mechanisms for the release of elderly, terminally ill, severely disabled, and medically fragile individuals so they can receive appropriate care in the community instead of dying in prison. Establish a Statewide Conviction Review Unit Create an independent conviction review body with the authority and resources to investigate wrongful convictions, excessive sentences, and cases involving prosecutorial or judicial misconduct. Abolish Forced Prison Labor End uncompensated and coerced prison labor by guaranteeing fair wages, voluntary participation, safe working conditions, and basic labor protections for incarcerated workers. Strengthening Families Act (Including Conjugal Visits) Implement policies that protect and strengthen family bonds, including conjugal and overnight family visits, expanded contact visitation, increased access to phone and video communication, and parenting and family-support programs. STATEMENT FROM FAM "For decades, incarcerated men and women in Alabama have lived in conditions that violate human rights, constitutional protections, and basic dignity. With the undeniable evidence now in the open, we are left with no alternative but to demand justice through collective, peaceful action. Dopo ventisei anni di negoziati e numerosi rinvii, il 12 gennaio la presidente della Commissione europea Ursula von der Leyen dovrebbe firmare l'accordo di libero scambio tra Ue e Mercosur. Il via libera formale degli Stati membri è atteso dal voto degli ambasciatori dei Ventisette, previsto come una formalità. L'Italia si appresta a cambiare posizione, passando dal no al sì dopo le rassicurazioni offerte dalla Commissione a tutela degli agricoltori, contribuendo così a garantire la maggioranza qualificata. Anche la Francia guarda con favore all'intesa, pur non potendo sostenerla apertamente per ragioni di politica interna. L'accordo assume un valore storico non solo per l'impatto economico, ma anche per la sua rilevanza geopolitica, diventando una risposta europea alla cosiddetta dottrina "Donroe" e alla crescente pressione statunitense nell'Emisfero occidentale. Bruxelles punta a rafforzare i legami politici e commerciali con Brasile, Argentina, Paraguay e Uruguay, considerati partner strategici anche per l'approvvigionamento di materie prime. Restano però forti le opposizioni del mondo agricolo, soprattutto in Italia. La Commissione rivendica un pacchetto di tutele senza precedenti per il settore, con salvaguardie, controlli rigorosi e reti di sicurezza. Il provvedimento passa ora alla Camera per la conversione in legge entro il 20 gennaio. Il testo disciplina il credito d'imposta per la Transizione 5.0 e definisce la cornice normativa per l'individuazione delle aree idonee agli impianti da fonti rinnovabili. Approfondiamo con Carmine Fotina - Il Sole 24 Ore.Istat: a novembre tasso di disoccupazione giù al 5,7%, mai così bassoA novembre 2025 il tasso di disoccupazione scende al 5,7%, il livello più basso dall'inizio delle serie storiche nel 2004. Cala anche la disoccupazione giovanile, che si attesta al 18,8%, mentre aumenta il tasso di inattività al 33,5%. Il numero complessivo di occupati è pari a 24 milioni 188 mila, in lieve calo rispetto al mese precedente, ma in crescita su base annua di 179 mila unità. L'aumento annuo è trainato soprattutto dai dipendenti permanenti e dagli autonomi, mentre diminuiscono i contratti a termine. Su base mensile il calo degli occupati riguarda in particolare donne, giovani, lavoratori autonomi e dipendenti a termine. Nel confronto trimestrale, invece, l'occupazione mostra un incremento complessivo. I dati confermano un mercato del lavoro in miglioramento strutturale, pur con segnali di fragilità legati alla qualità e alla stabilità dell'occupazione. Un bilancio “di tenuta”, ma soprattutto di prospettiva: il consiglio comunale di Schio ha approvato il Bilancio di previsione 2026-2028, un documento da oltre 54 milioni di euro che, pur in un contesto reso più complesso dall'aumento dei costi e dalla riduzione dei trasferimenti, prova a tenere insieme due obiettivi: confermare i servizi essenziali e continuare a investire su sicurezza, manutenzioni e qualità urbana.

Foto: Michael Weyland Der Reisetipp: Sant Jordi liegt wie bereits erwähnt grade mal 45 Autominuten vom Flughafen entfernt, aber erfreulich weit weg von Ballermann und Co. - fast an der südlichsten Spitze der Insel in der Gemeinde Ses Salines. Von dort aus haben wir die Insel 10 Tage lang ohne Stress erkundet. Aufgrund der Lage von Sant Jordi empfiehlt es sich, zuerst an der Ostküste der Insel entlang zu fahren. Starten sollte man aber mit einem kurzen Trip in den südlichen Teil, zum 1863 erbauten Leuchtturm Far des Cap de ses Salines. Er liegt an der südlichsten Spitze der Insel, Luftlinie 7,5 Kilometer entfernt, mit dem Auto dauert es eine allerdings gute halbe Stunde. Foto: Michael Weyland Von dort geht es dann weiter in Richtung Norden, wir empfehlen als nächsten Stopp das gut 15 Minuten entfernte Santanyí, einen authentischen mallorquinischen Ort. Ideal für einen Besuch ist der Samstag. Dann ist Markttag in der Stadt, man sollte nicht zu spät dort sein, wenn man noch einen Parkplatz bekommen will. So bietet sich auch ein Frühstück in einem der Cafés rund um einen der schönsten Märkte der Insel an. Für essenstechnische Selbstversorger DIE Gelegenheit, landestypische Nahrungsmittel zu kaufen.    Foto: Michael Weyland Weiter geht es für rund 25 Minuten in Richtung Norden nach Cala d'Or , zu gut Deutsch, die „goldene Bucht“, mit einem kurzen Zwischenstopp am Hafen von Porto Petro, einem kleinen Hafenort mit gerade einmal 500 Einwohnern. Hier kann man am kleinen Yachthafen spazierengehen, sich einen café con leche gönnen und einen Blick auf die eine oder andere Yacht werfen.  Die Fans von größeren Yachten sollten allerdings gleich nach Cala d'Or weiterfahren. Foto: Michael Weyland Mit rund 600 Liegeplätzen kann man den Ort neben Palma, Port Adriano oder Andratx – zu den größeren und luxuriöseren Marinas zählen. Die meist zweistöckigen Gebäude haben fast immer eine weiß getünchte Fassade, die Architektur erinnert an Ibiza und so ist es auch gedacht. Nun können Sie sich entweder auf den rund 40-minütigen Rückweg nach Sant Jordi machen oder über Porto Cristo und Cala Millor bis hoch in den Norden der Insel fahren. Mas o que acontece quando o próprio espaço que deveria abrigar o diálogo se fecha ao outro? Quando a busca pelo conhecimento é substituída pela tentativa de silenciar? A história mostra que momentos assim costumam deixar marcas profundas, não apenas nas instituições, mas na sociedade que elas refletem. Na última semana, a Faculdade de Filosofia, Letras e Ciências Humanas da USP (FFLCH) decidiu romper o convênio acadêmico que mantinha com a Universidade de Haifa, em Israel. Segundo o diretor, seria um “gesto simbólico” diante do que chamou de “crimes em Gaza”. Mas o gesto levantou uma série de questões: O que significa romper uma parceria acadêmica? Que impacto isso tem sobre estudantes e pesquisadores? E, sobretudo, o que essa decisão diz sobre o papel das universidades diante de conflitos políticos? About Joseph Alessi: Joseph Alessi was appointed Principal Trombone of the New York Philharmonic in the spring of 1985. He began musical studies in his native California with his father, Joseph Alessi, Sr. As a high school student in San Rafael, California, he was a soloist with the San Francisco Symphony before continuing his musical training at Philadelphia's Curtis Institute of Music. Prior to joining the Philharmonic, Mr. Alessi was second trombone of The Philadelphia Orchestra for four seasons, and principal trombone of L'Orchestre symphonique de Montreal for one season. In addition, he has performed as guest principal trombonist with the London Symphony Orchestra in Carnegie Hall led by Pierre Boulez. Mr. Alessi is an active soloist, recitalist, and chamber music performer. In April 1990 he made his solo debut with the New York Philharmonic, performing Creston's Fantasy for Trombone, and in 1992 premiered Christopher Rouse's Pulitzer Prize- winning Trombone Concerto with the Philharmonic, which commissioned the work for its 150th anniversary celebration. His most recent appearance with the Philharmonic as soloist was in performances of the Tan-Dun Trombone Concerto in March of 2024. Mr. Alessi also has appeared as soloist with the New York Philharmonic in performances of concerti by Kazimierz Serocki, Bramwell Tovey, William Bolcom, Chick Corea, and William Grant Still. Composed especially for Mr. Alessi, he performed the world premiere of the Chick Corea Trombone Concerto with the Säo Paulo Symphony Orchestra in August of 2021. Joseph Alessi has recorded and performed extensively with five prominent trombone quartets; The New York Trombone Quartet resulting in the only recording of Bartok's 4th String Quartet, Aries Trombone Quartet, Four of a Kind Trombone Quartet, the World Trombone Quartet, and Slide Monsters Trombone Quartet. Other solo engagements have included the New Japan Philharmonic, Nagoya Philharmonic, Gulbenkian Symphony, Costa Rica Symphony, National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony, Orchestra of Teatro Bellini, Mannheim National Theater Orchestra, Hauge Philharmonic, Helsinki Philharmonic, and the Colorado, Nashville, Alabama, Santa Barbara, Syracuse, and Puerto Rico symphony orchestras. Mr. Alessi has also participated in numerous festivals, including the Festivale Musica di Camera in Portogruaro, Italy; Cabrillo Music Festival; Swiss Brass Week; and Lieksa Brass Week in Finland. He was featured in the 1997 International Trombone Festival in Feldkirch, Austria, and the International Meeting of Brass Instruments in Lille, France. In 2002 Mr. Alessi was awarded an International Trombone Association Award for his contributions to the world of trombone music and trombone playing, and in 2014, was elected President of that association. Mr. Alessi is currently on the faculty of The Juilliard School; his students now occupy posts with many major symphony orchestras in the U.S. and internationally. As a clinician for the Eastman-Shires Instrument Co., he has also given master classes throughout the world and has toured Europe extensively as a master teacher and recitalist. He has performed as soloist withseveral leading concert bands, including the U.S. Military Academy Band at West Point, U.S. Army Band (Pershing's Own), and the U.S. Marine Band (President's Own).  In addition, he has performed with the Maria Schneider Orchestra, the Village Vanguard Orchestra, and has recorded with jazz greats, J.J. Johnson and Steve Turre. Mr. Alessi's discography includes many releases on the Summit record label, including the Trombonastics, and a disc with New York Philharmonic Principal Trumpet Philip Smith entitled Fandango; he also recorded New York Legends on the Cala label. His live recording of the Rouse Concerto with the New York Philharmonic can be heard on Volume II of the recent release, An American Celebration, on New York Philharmonic Special Editions, the Orchestra's own recording label. Mr. Alessi was invited by the International Trombone Association to record a solo disc of newly composed works, which was distributed to the Association's membership of 5,000 trombonists. in early 1999 and is now available as Beyond the End of the Century through Summit Records. His recording of George Crumb's Starchild on the Bridge record label, featuring Mr. Alessi as soloist, won a Grammy Award for 1999– 2000. Other recordings featuring Mr. Alessi are with the Canadian Brass (Sony Classical and Philips Records). Il calo è dovuto soprattutto al rafforzamento del sistema informativo fiscale con strumenti come la fatturazione elettronica, la trasmissione telematica dei corrispettivi e lo split payment. Il risultato più evidente riguarda l’Iva, con un dimezzamento del gap grazie a digitalizzazione e crescita degli acquisti online durante la pandemia. Miglioramenti anche sull’Ires, mentre i gap più elevati restano sull’Irpef da lavoro autonomo e d’impresa. Interviene Maria Rita Testa, docente di demografia all'Università LUISS.Risiko: a che punto siamo?Il risiko bancario prosegue con fusioni e acquisizioni che puntano a rafforzare il business del risparmio gestito, cruciale dopo il taglio dei tassi da parte della BCE. Le concentrazioni garantiscono economie di scala e ampliamento dell’offerta, ma pongono dubbi su benefici per clienti e imprese. Cresce il rischio che i servizi si concentrino sui grandi clienti, lasciando indietro piccole imprese e risparmiatori retail, che si sposteranno verso soluzioni digitali. Intanto la desertificazione bancaria è un problema: 3.415 comuni sono privi di filiali, il settore ha perso 75 mila posti in 20 anni e i finanziamenti alle imprese si sono ridotti di 330 miliardi dal 2011. I sindacati chiedono attenzione, mentre secondo altri la digitalizzazione compensa le chiusure, pur lasciando criticità in alcune aree e per gli anziani.
