On this week's interview Paul talks to Matthew Mitchell. Matt is Senior Fellow in the Centre for Human Freedom at the Canadian Fraser Institute (a free market think tank). But Matthew WAS with the Rio Grande Foundation many years ago. He is a native New Mexican living in Angel Fire. More importantly, he and Paul have co-authored a new report "Economic Freedom in the Land of Enchantment" which Paul considers the most important policy study the Foundation has ever undertaken. The report has loads of useful information but specifically finds that New Mexico is the ONLY state in the nation to lose economic freedom since 1981.
With less than a week left in the session, Paul and Wally discuss the latest from Santa Fe. Specifically, Paul and Wally discuss SB 176 and the fact that reforms like it to address NM's medical malpractice laws have been slowed thanks to the trial attorneys. In a huge win for businesses and taxpayers paid leave died over the weekend. HB 14, a mediocre bill goes bad. What's the latest on the Freedom Index? A new report by Rio Grande Foundation and the Fraser Institute finds that New Mexico is the only state in the nation to have seen a decline in economic freedom since 1981. Paul and Wally go into detail on NM's lack of economic freedom.
This week's "interview" is a little different. This week Paul and Wally talk taxes. What is their purpose? Why are they such a priority right now for the Rio Grande Foundation? Which taxes do more or less economic harm? Why is the GRT such a "unique" issue here in New Mexico? Paul is doing a more thorough presentation on taxes in New Mexico at an event THIS Saturday. You can find out more here.

Paul Gessing of the Rio Grande Foundation, a nonprofit think tank focused on the impact of public policy on the economy and education, gives us an exclusive analysis of the bills passed in this legislative session. Steve pays tribute to fallen Dona Ana Police Officer Jonah Hernandez and blasts NM Democrats for enabling the revolving door of crime. Steve then calls on New Mexicans to contact the office of Governor Lujan Grisham and ask her not to sign HB 41, which will result in New Mexicans paying .50 more per gallon of gasoline. Jewish Rapper and artist Matisyahu accused Meow Wolf in Santa of antisemitism for forcing him to cancel his sold-out shows due to its staff boycotting his show. Steve is urging New Mexicans to call Senator Martin Heinrich's office and ask him if he condemns this antisemitic action, especially since Heinrich's wife is a top staffer at Meow Wolf and allegedly played a role in the boycott. Our exclusive chat with Paul Gessing of the Rio Grande Foundation is an absolute must-listen for anyone curious about the inner workings of New Mexico's economic landscape. Gessing pulls no punches in laying bare the threats posed by current policies, while also illuminating pathways to improvement and growth. A significant segment of our discussion orbits around the dramatic push towards Electric Vehicles (EVs) in New Mexico, a move championed by Governor Lujan Grisham. The implications are vast and to be frank not good; from environmental impacts to the strain on the electricity grid, the fallout on car dealers, and, not to mention, the consumers. We don't hold back as we question the feasibility and potential negative ramifications of this potentially seismic shift in the state's automotive industry. Our genuine concern over the possible impact of the EV mandate on rural areas leads to a discussion on the obstacles faced by manufacturers in producing EVs at a profitable cost. The political landscape in New Mexico is further scrutinized through the lens of Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham's failed policies. #EV #NewMexico #oil #gas #cars #china #Tesla #Ronchetti Website: https://www.nodoubtaboutitpodcast.com/Twitter: @nodoubtpodcastFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/NoDoubtAboutItPod/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/markronchettinm/?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ%3D%3D
