Play Episode Listen Later Oct 1, 2025 42:14 Transcription Available

A funding lapse in Washington sets the stage, but the real story is how power, process, and language shape outcomes—from the Senate's 60‑vote math to a New Mexico special session that narrows what gets debated. We open by decoding the shutdown: why a seven‑week continuing resolution stalled, how polling and precedent drive the blame game, and why markets shrugged while politicians postured. Then we zoom into Santa Fe, where a fast‑tracked agenda centers on health policy—especially a quiet but consequential shift that would remove CDC ACIP as the reference for school immunization schedules and lean on the state health department and the American Academy of Pediatrics. We unpack what that means for scientific independence, conflicts of interest, and public trust, and make the case for more—not fewer—credible voices in the room. From statehouse to city hall, we tackle Albuquerque's sanctuary city status. Polling shows majority support when the policy is framed as non‑cooperation “except when required by law,” but a mayoral order adding a hotline to alert residents about ICE activity raises safety and operational concerns. We connect those dots to voters' top anxieties—crime and homelessness—and explore how perceptions of safety track party identity more than daily reality, complicating honest problem‑solving.Campaign sparks fly in the Democratic gubernatorial primary over policy authorship, reminding us that voters care less about who wrote a plan and more about who can deliver measurable results. The temperature spikes again when a state representative compares ICE to the KKK—rhetoric condemned by law enforcement and flagged here for what it is: reckless. We close with a practical bright spot—drug pricing reforms tied to most‑favored‑nation benchmarks and a “Trump RX” fallback that could drive substantial savings for Medicare, Medicaid, and consumers if implemented with transparency and competition in mind.If you value sharp analysis without the spin, follow the show, share this episode with a friend, and leave a quick review so more listeners can find it. Episode 227: The Gloves Are Off! New Mexico's Democratic Governor Race Drama!

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 28, 2025 56:17 Transcription Available

The political landscape in New Mexico is heating up with the Democratic gubernatorial race between Deb Haaland and Sam Bregman taking center stage. What started as a relatively quiet contest has evolved into a strategic battle of positioning, with Holland's team landing the first significant blow by exposing plagiarized content in Bregman's ambitious 189-page policy document. This exchange perfectly illustrates their competing approaches: Bregman aggressively seeking debates while Haaland maintains a more measured stance, highlighting the authenticity questions that may plague her opponent.Albuquerque's mayoral race presents another fascinating political study. While incumbent Tim Keller leads in the polls with 29% support against former Sheriff Darren White's 16%, the numbers reveal potential vulnerability. With 60% of voters saying "it's time for someone else" and undecided voters outnumbering Keller supporters, the race could be headed for a competitive runoff where Keller's underwater favorability rating might prove decisive. The healthcare crisis in New Mexico continues to deepen, with a controversial op-ed by attorney Brian Cologne defending trial lawyers while seemingly ignoring the devastating impact of the state's regulatory environment on healthcare access. As one listener pointedly asked: what good is having powerful lawyers when families can't find doctors to treat their sick children? This tension between legal accountability and healthcare accessibility represents one of the state's most pressing challenges. On the national front, Portland's handling of protests around ICE facilities highlights a troubling prioritization of political positioning over public safety. Despite ranking as America's second most dangerous city, local officials reject federal assistance while simultaneously failing to provide adequate local police protection to affected neighborhoods, leaving residents to fend for themselves amid nightly violence. We also explore the Trump administration's focus on potential links between Tylenol and autism, the looming government shutdown negotiations, and even tackle the surprisingly complex question of appropriate wedding gift amounts in 2023. From political showdowns to practical advice, this episode offers a comprehensive look at the issues shaping our communities and nation.Website: https://www.nodoubtaboutitpodcast.com/Twitter: @nodoubtpodcastFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/NoDoubtAboutItPod/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/markronchettinm/?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ%3D%3D

Episode 226 Autism, Violence Against ICE, and Censorship: Politics Infecting Everything

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 24, 2025 62:48 Transcription Available

The dangerous intersection of inflammatory rhetoric and real-world violence takes center stage in this urgent analysis of America's deepening political divide. We examine the recent shooting at a Dallas ICE facility that left two migrants dead, where the FBI quickly identified an ideological motive with shell casings marked "anti-ICE." Yet mainstream media continues to obscure these clear motivations, creating a dangerous environment where accountability becomes impossible and violence continues unchecked. As political figures adopt increasingly extreme language—from Gavin Newsom demanding ICE agents "unmask" to New Mexico Senator Joe Cervantes comparing ICE to the KKK—we're witnessing leadership that validates rather than calms extremist viewpoints. This pattern repeats across virtually every issue facing Americans today.Drawing from personal experience as parents of a child with autism, we dive into the Trump administration's announcement of research linking prenatal Tylenol use to autism. Despite being backed by studies from Harvard and Johns Hopkins, this potentially groundbreaking information was immediately framed as "misinformation" by political opponents, demonstrating how tribal politics now trumps scientific inquiry and public health. The politicization extends to healthcare access in New Mexico, where bipartisan efforts to address doctor shortages through interstate medical compacts are being blocked by powerful trial lawyers in the state senate. Even Google has admitted to censoring Americans at the Biden administration's request regarding COVID-19 information that has since been proven accurate. What makes this episode particularly compelling is how it connects these seemingly disparate issues to reveal a fundamental breakdown in American discourse. When politics infects every aspect of life—from medical research to basic healthcare access—citizens suffer while special interests thrive. Join us as we cut through the noise and examine how we might begin healing this dangerous divide.Rate, review and subscribe to help spread the word, or visit NoDoubtAboutItPodcast.com to support our work directly.Website: https://www.nodoubtaboutitpodcast.com/Twitter: @nodoubtpodcastFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/NoDoubtAboutItPod/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/markronchettinm/?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ%3D%3D

The political landscape in Albuquerque has reached a fascinating tipping point, as revealed by exclusive polling data that might just predict the outcome of the upcoming mayoral race. The numbers tell a compelling story: incumbent Mayor Tim Keller faces serious headwinds with his unfavorability at 52% and a striking 60% of voters saying it's time for someone new.Crime and homelessness dominate voter concerns, together capturing over 60% of what residents identify as their top issues. Despite this, the race has become increasingly nationalized, setting up what might be the most consequential dynamic of the election – will voters prioritize their frustrations with local leadership, or will their feelings about Donald Trump ultimately determine their choice? The polling creates a fascinating tension. While Keller leads with 34% support to challenger Darren White's 21%, the high undecided number (30%) suggests significant voter uncertainty. What makes this particularly intriguing is the direct comparison between Trump's 62% unfavorability in Albuquerque and Keller's 60% "time for someone new" rating. This sets up an election that transcends typical local politics, becoming instead a test case for whether voters can separate their national partisan loyalties from their local concerns.Additional polling for the New Mexico governor's race shows Secretary Deb Haaland with a commanding lead among Democrats, even winning moderate Democrats by a significant margin. This reflects national polling trends highlighted by Harry Enten showing socialism's growing popularity within the Democratic Party – a jump from +7 points in 2010 to +36 points today, helping explain why progressive candidates often outperform expectations in primaries. For political observers watching these races unfold, the central question becomes whether New Mexico voters will prioritize local issues like crime and homelessness or vote based on national partisan identities. The answer could reshape politics in the state for years to come. Follow our coverage as we continue tracking the numbers that matter most in determining who will lead Albuquerque and New Mexico into the future.Website: https://www.nodoubtaboutitpodcast.com/Twitter: @nodoubtpodcastFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/NoDoubtAboutItPod/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/markronchettinm/?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ%3D%3D

Here are the facts:New Mexico needs 200 more primary care physicians right now. That may sound smaller than Texas or Arizona's numbers, but proportionally our shortage is far worse. If Texas faced what we're facing, they'd need nearly 3,000 doctors—three times their actual need.We rank 7th in the nation for malpractice claims per 100,000 people. That makes malpractice insurance costs skyrocket, driving doctors to other states.Trial lawyers are funding shadow groups like New Mexico Safety Over Profits to block reforms. Over 74% of their donors are tied to the Trial Lawyers Association.Earlier this year, a bill that would have capped attorney fees and brought relief for doctors failed by just one vote. That's how powerful the trial lawyer lobby really is.This isn't about politics—it's about people. Cancer patients can't wait months for care. Families shouldn't have to drive out of state to find a doctor. Retirees shouldn't have to question whether they can grow old here safely. The bottom line: until we reform malpractice laws and stand up to trial lawyers, New Mexico will keep losing doctors—and patients will pay the price.

We actually applaud the decision… but here's the kicker: she's blasting President Trump for sending the Guard into Washington, D.C. We take the gloves off and expose the blatant political hypocrisy.Mark lays out why good leaders make the right call no matter the politics, and why too many in D.C. would rather leave citizens unsafe than work with a president they oppose. We also dismantle the ridiculous claim from the left that “crime is going down in DC” as a reason not to bring in the Guard—showing how it's as false as saying “the border is secure” or “inflation isn't a problem.”But Republicans aren't off the hook either. The White House insists people shouldn't be worried about inflation. We kick things off with a head-scratching article from the Albuquerque Journal asking why we don't have bigger buildings downtown. The piece dances around the issue with a list of bizarre theories… but conveniently ignores the obvious: when crime, drugs, and homelessness go unchecked, developers stay far away. Mark breaks it down—and doesn't hold back. Then we dig into a heated exchange between the Albuquerque City Council and the Police Chief, showing once again how local leadership loves political theater more than solving real problems. But it gets worse. In Las Cruces, there's actually a proposal to create "safe spaces" for addicts to shoot up drugs. You read that right. Mark unleashes on how dangerous—and cruel—this policy is, and how it's a guaranteed path to tragedy. We also break down Trump's interview with Kristen Welker of Meet The Press, where she tried to corner him and ended up outmatched. Krysty walks through where the media got it wrong—again. And finally… we end with Trump as the Pope. Yes, really. A tweet that sparked everything from laughs to internal debates.
