This week we want to work through the issue of gossip. We will be using Resisting Gossip: Winning the War of the Wagging Tongue by Matthew Mitchell as a guide.▪ Resisting Gossip – Part 2: Resisting Gossip (chapters 4-6)Sinful gossip includes the sin of judging others▪ See James 4:11-12 [slander means to speak against someone, to talk them down, to speak ill of them, to disdain someone or to run somebody down verbally; intent is to belittle another, to pour out contempt, to mock, to hurt, to harm, to destroy]▪ What are the issues in passing judgment?~ Rush to judgment- which involves: listening to only one side; not considering the source; assuming and assigning motives; and we assume the worst about someone~ Prideful judgment – it is not our place, calling, or responsibility; we don't judge how we would want to be judged; we aren't willing to humble ourselves~ Unloving judgment – critical judgment (lacks charity)Practicing Ephesians 4:29 – Applying the put off/put on principle to our use of our mouths1. Say nothing at all (Proverbs 10:19; 17:27-28)2. Commend the Commendable – say something good (“helpful for building others up”)3. Talk to people, not about them (Matthew 5:24) – this can mean loving confrontation4. Offer words of mercy – words should “minister grace to our hearers” (e.g., Proverbs 10:21)5. Talk to and about the Lord (Ephesians 5:19-20)Listening▪ Evil listening~ Proverbs 17:4~ Live as children of the light1. Pray and weigh (Use wisdom to ask discerning questions to know how to engage with the one gossiping)2. Avoid – Proverbs 20:193. Cover and defend– Proverbs 17:9; 10:12)4. Go to the one being talked about++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++For more information about this group, please visit their website at reformationboise.com. This week we want to work through the issue of gossip. We will be using Resisting Gossip: Winning the War of the Wagging Tongue by Matthew Mitchell as a guide. Resisting Gossip – Part 1: Recognizing Gossip (chapters 1-3)Key verses – Proverbs 18:8; 26:22 – The words for a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a man's inmost parts.”Gospel defined▪ Talking – a gossip betrays a confidence (Proverbs 20:19)▪ Listening – “Wrongdoers early listen to gossip; liars pay close attention to slander” (Proverbs 17:4)Three types of bad news1. Bad information (lies)2. Bad news about someone (sharing shameful truth; slander)▪ Proverbs 11:13 – “a gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret”▪ Proverbs 10:18 – “Whoever spreads slander is a fool”3. Bad news for someone – bad news wickedly projected for someone elseGossip happens when the person you are talking about is not there – Questions to ask: Would you say this if the person was standing there beside you? [are some exceptions – provide examples] Would I receive this bad news about them in the same way if they were present? Am I hiding this conversation from someone? Would I want someone else to talk this way bout me if I were out of the room? [Is it true, necessary, and kind]In recognizing gossip, important questions to ask: Why am I saying this? Why am I listening to this? Why am I attracted to this bad news? Why do we gossip?▪ Love of stories ~ sinful heart makes us enjoy and be attracted to sinful stories (gossip)▪ We gossip because bad words are an overflow from our bad hearts (Matthew 12:33- 37)A gallery of gossips1. The spy – those that probe(motivated by power)2. The grumbler – complains or criticizes (motivated by jealousy)3. The backstabber – like the grumbler but angrier and more hateful (motivated by payback)4. The chameleon – goes along with gossip to fit in with the crowd (motivated by fear)5. The busybody – person who is idle and not engaged in purposeful business (motivated by a desire to beentertained and escape from the boredom of their life)++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++For more information about this group, please visit their website at reformationboise.com. After the fall of the Soviet Union, a whole host of European countries were faced with a unique opportunity: the chance to free their economy and clean up a corrupt legal system. Of all the ex-Soviet states, few have been as successful as Estonia. Matt Kibbe speaks to Matthew Mitchell, senior fellow at the Fraser Institute, about the peaceful and musical revolution that helped lift Estonia out of poverty and oppression as the country's people embraced the concepts of free markets and personal liberty. Today, this tiny Baltic nation serves as a model for how to get things right, both in terms of casting off the chains of the past and create a free society that empowers citizens to thrive.

I couldn't believe it. After a string of toy shows with very little worthwhile Star Wars memorabilia, I had stumbled upon one of my best finds in years. And it happened at the Toys for the Ages Expo in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The Toys for the Ages Expo is one of the premier vintage toy shows on the east coast. The brainchild of Andy Cook, the show focuses on the beloved lines from the 1970s, 80s and 90s, but it covers all of the collectibles from the past 50 years. And for Star Wars fans, it was a toy paradise. There were more Kenner and Hasbro gems at this show than at any in recent memory. Join host David Quinn for part one of a look at the weekend of the Toys for the Ages Expo. Travel out to the show, experience what Friday's setup is like for vendors, join the crew for a group dinner, and find out what made Saturday's show so memorable and so very special for collectors! This is an unforgettable toy trip weekend. And this is Star Wars: Prototypes and Production! Featuring collectors Andy Cook, Peter LeRose, Kevin Mann, Bob Mastrella, Matthew Mitchell, and Mark Ryan.
