You might find leprechauns ridiculous and unbelievable. Little gnomish folk with magical powers that hide gold at the end of rainbows? Dismissed with prejudice, you would say. Just as you might dismiss that we would do another manga episode. Yet here we are, in all our glory. So if we can come through, who is to say, truly, that you will never see a lookalike that could hawk you a sugary cereal product in person? You won't but as a wise bard once sang, don't stop believing. Tim has Can't Stop Cursing You. There's a bunch of curse gods and they like to make deals with mortals. One unnamed curse … Continue reading "Manga Pulse 537: Titsa Cursin"
This week on the podcast, we're saying something insultingly discourteous to a lady — because we're watching the Power Rangers SPD episode "Dismissed"! Whose grand plan is a low-rent stunt show "spectacular"? What's maybe the most offensive monster name in the show's history? And who is the newly-revealed worst individual in the Power Rangers canon? The answers to these questions (and more!) await, on this episode of the Ranger Danger SPD podcast!
Michael Colucci, a Summerville, South Carolina jeweler, was once again on trial for the death of his wife, seven years after his initial trial ended in a mistrial. Michael Colucci is accused of killing his wife, Sara Lynn Colucci, in May 2015. During his first trial in 2018, prosecutors alleged that Michael strangled Sara. His defense argued that she died by suicide, claiming she hanged herself with a garden hose on a nearby fence while Michael was sitting in their car just 25 feet away. Just moments before Colucci's trial was set to begin, Judge Roger Young ruled in favor of the defense motion to dismiss the case. Seton tucker was there for the shocking decision. We discuss the ruling with her father, Matt Siembieda. Matt Siembieda is an attorney, graduate of Penn Law School and a law professor at Temple Law School. Seton Tucker and Matt Harris began the Impact of Influence podcast shortly after the murders of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh. In the Memorandum of Law supporting Sean Combs's Motion to Dismiss Count Three of the Superseding Indictment in case 1:24-cr-00542-AS, the defense argues that the charge is legally insufficient and fails to meet the required statutory elements. They contend that the indictment lacks specificity, particularly in detailing the alleged conduct and its connection to the purported criminal enterprise. Furthermore, the defense asserts that the prosecution's interpretation of the statute is overly broad, potentially criminalizing behavior beyond the law's intent. They emphasize that without clear evidence linking Combs to the alleged illegal activities in Count Three, the charge should be dismissed to uphold the principles of fair notice and due process.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:gov.uscourts.nysd.628425.153.0.pdfBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.
Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell have spent the past year preparing for Charleston-area good ole boy Michael Colucci to be tried again for the 2015 murder of his wife, Sara-Lynn Moore Colucci. Twice a retrial was scheduled. And twice it didn't happen. On Tuesday, after the jury had been seated, South Carolina Judge Roger M. Young quashed the indictment of Colucci and dismissed what was to be a two-week trial and the end of what had become the oldest open murder case in the state. For 10 years, Sara-Lynn's family, including her mother and her only daughter, Bishop, who was a child at the time her mother died, have had to sit silently time and time again as the justice system continued to fail them. What didn't help matters? Original prosecutor and current public official Megan (Burchstead) Burleson's surly and defensive behavior on the stand on Tuesday…
In this listener story episode of The Birth Trauma Mama Podcast, I'm joined by Lauren, a writer and mom of two, who shares her powerful and vulnerable story of an unexpected and traumatic birth. After a smooth pregnancy and a well-prepared plan for an unmedicated delivery, Lauren's labor took a sudden and intense turn involving prodromal labor, a failed epidural, vacuum-assisted delivery, and ultimately, a shoulder dystocia that left both her and her baby in physical and emotional recovery. From feeling dismissed by her doula, to processing the chaos and fear of delivery, to the quiet realization that what she experienced was, in fact, birth trauma, Lauren opens up about how she slowly pieced together her healing, with safe people, supportive providers, and her own learning. She also shares how she approached her second birth with a different mindset, opting for a planned cesarean and giving herself the space to reclaim control, safety, and peace. What You'll Hear in This Episode:

In today’s episode of The Rickey Smiley Morning Show Podcast, President Trump stirred the pearl-clutching headlines by suggesting Russia—and even China—should join the G7, calling their exclusion since 2014 a “mistake” and claiming their reinstatement could have prevented the Ukraine war. Meanwhile, courtroom chaos continues at Sean “Diddy” Combs’s federal trial as Judge Subramanian dismisses two jury members—one for lying about his residency and another for discussing case details outside court—triggering defense objections and concerns about fairness. Finally, attention turns to the music world as K. Michelle fans a decade-old feud with Tamar Braxton, calling her a Muppet and loudmouth coyote on Cam Newton’s podcast, while Reginae Carter passionately defends her father Lil Wayne’s Carter VI, asserting that just because a song isn’t TikTok-friendly doesn’t make it trash. Mike Marza and ABC News Legal Contributor Bernarda Villalona recap a busy day in the Sean Diddy Combs trial. At the conclusion of court on Friday, Judge Arun Subramanian dismissed juror #6 over "inconsistencies" in statements he made about where he lived, and he said they raised questions of candor and ability to follow instructions. In an "offhand" remark to court staff, the juror mentioned he had moved in with his girlfriend in New Jersey and had been living there most of the time. The judge said it raised concerns about the juror's basic qualifications, the juror's candor and whether he made a deliberate attempt to get himself onto the jury. Kanye West briefly watched his friend Sean "Diddy" Combs' sex trafficking trial from an overflow room. After arriving in a black Mercedes-Maybach sedan, West entered the courthouse in an all-white outfit and black sunglasses. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Keywords Independent Monitoring Board, prison reform, criminology, Faith Spear, criminal justice, prison advocacy, emotional toll, monitoring prisons, recommendations, prison conditions Summary In this conversation, Faith Spear, a criminologist and former chair of the Independent Monitoring Board (IMB), shares her experiences and insights into the role of the IMB in monitoring prisons. She discusses the challenges faced by IMB members, the emotional toll of the work, and the need for reform within the prison system. Faith reflects on her journey to the IMB, the expectations versus reality of the role, and the impact of her whistleblowing article that led to her suspension. Despite the challenges, she remains passionate about prison reform and continues to advocate for change. takeaways The IMB is a statutory body that monitors prisons. Members of the IMB have 24/7 access to prisons but face challenges in independence. Faith's background in the voluntary sector influenced her path to the IMB. Expectations of the IMB role can differ significantly from reality. The IMB is funded by the Ministry of Justice, affecting its perceived independence. Building trust with prisoners is a significant challenge for IMB members. The emotional toll of working in prisons can be substantial. Support and camaraderie among IMB members can be lacking. Faith's whistleblowing article raised important issues but led to her suspension. Faith continues to advocate for prison reform through her blog and public speaking. Faith Spear FRSA is a prison reform advocate best known for her integrity and as staunch critic of this country's prison system. Until January 2017, Faith served as Chair of the Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) at HMP/YOI Hollesley Bay. She authored a groundbreaking article published in The Prisons Handbook 2016 speaking out against wrongdoings, injustice, and unfairness in prisons and highlighted issues such as the deficiency in purposeful activity, poor prison conditions and lack of independent prison monitoring. As a result, Faith was controversially suspended from her role by the Prisons Minister, Andrew Selous MP, bullied and ostracised by her local IMB board and unsupported by the IMB Secretariat, faced two investigations and a disciplinary hearing at Ministry of Justice HQ. Dismissed from her role in January 2017 by the second Prisons Minister, Sam Gyimah and banned from the IMB for 5 years. Undeterred, Faith has developed a reputation for her courageous and outspoken stance on prison-related issues. Known for challenging the status quo and addressing systemic failures within the prison system. Her work has earned her respect among her peers and recognition as a leading voice in the ongoing efforts to reform the UK's prisons. Topics of Faith's blogs have proven consistently correct, evidenced by the crisis in our prisons, unprecedented overcrowding, critical understaffing, places of violence and devoid of any meaningful rehabilitative outcomes. Meanwhile, Marco Sturm (Boston) and under-the-radar Dan Muse (Pittsburgh) landed head coaching jobs as the NHL’s hiring cycle continues. On the ice, the Oilers took Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final in OT with a picture-perfect team goal finished by Draisaitl, as captain Connor McDavid came alive late in the game. Sam Bennett’s controversial 1st period goal stood after a failed goalie interference challenge, and Edmonton’s depth—including Kapanen and a resurgent Kane—shined. Oh, and Leafs fans were split as Rory McIlroy repped the team at the Canadian Open, sparking more than a couple of "golf" chirps.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In the recent Peacock documentary "Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy," serious allegations have been made against Sean "Diddy" Combs by individuals from his inner circle. One such claim involves a former musician who recounted a heated dispute during which Combs allegedly threatened to "eat" her flesh, highlighting a pattern of intimidation and bizarre behavior. Additionally, former associates have accused Combs of hosting "red light" sex parties involving underage girls, suggesting a history of sexual misconduct and exploitation. These revelations contribute to the growing list of accusations against Combs, who is currently facing multiple lawsuits alleging sexual assault and sex trafficking, all of which he has denied. In a recent development, DeVanté Swing, a member of the R&B group Jodeci, has been dismissed without prejudice from a sexual assault lawsuit filed by Liza Gardner against Sean "Diddy" Combs. Gardner had alleged that Swing, whose real name is Donald DeGrate, was complicit in the assault that occurred when she was 16 years old. The dismissal without prejudice allows for the possibility of future legal action against Swing, though no specific reasons for this decision have been publicly disclosed.(commercial at 8:26)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:'Making the Band' alum accuses Diddy of 'inappropriate' touchingJodeci Member DeVante Swing Dismissed From Diddy Assault Lawsuit
This Day in Legal History: SEC EstablishedOn this day in legal history, June 6, 1934, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) was established as part of the sweeping reforms of the New Deal. The SEC was created by the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 in response to the stock market crash of 1929 and the ensuing Great Depression, which exposed widespread fraud, manipulation, and lack of oversight in the financial markets. Its primary mission was, and remains, to protect investors; maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets; and facilitate capital formation.President Franklin D. Roosevelt appointed Joseph P. Kennedy, a former stockbroker and businessman, as the SEC's first chairman. The choice was controversial—Kennedy had profited handsomely from some of the same speculative practices the SEC was meant to prevent—but Roosevelt believed that Kennedy's insider knowledge would make him an effective regulator. The SEC was empowered to regulate the securities industry, enforce federal securities laws, and oversee the nation's stock and options exchanges. Among its early duties were requiring public companies to file detailed financial disclosures, registering securities before public offering, and monitoring insider trading. The commission also played a key role in restoring investor confidence in U.S. capital markets during a time of deep financial mistrust.Over time, the SEC expanded its reach, responding to new financial products, trading technologies, and crises. From investigating corporate accounting scandals like Enron and WorldCom, to managing the regulatory fallout of the 2008 financial crisis, the SEC has remained a pivotal force in shaping American financial law. It continues to evolve, now addressing issues such as crypto asset regulation, ESG disclosures, and algorithmic trading.Speaking of the SEC, U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton dismissed a lawsuit challenging the SEC 2020 rule changes that made it more difficult for shareholders to submit proposals at corporate annual meetings. The rules, enacted late in President Trump's term, raised the ownership thresholds and lengthened holding periods required to file shareholder proposals. They also introduced stricter resubmission requirements for proposals previously rejected by shareholders. The plaintiffs, including the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility, As You Sow, and shareholder advocate James McRitchie, argued the changes disproportionately harmed proposals on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues and reduced long-term shareholder value. They claimed the SEC failed to assess the benefits of such proposals before implementing the rules.Judge Walton rejected these claims, ruling that the SEC adequately justified the changes under its mandate to promote efficiency, competition, and capital formation. The SEC, which had defended the rules during both the Trump and Biden administrations, argued that the reforms ensured shareholder proposals had broader relevance and potential for meaningful corporate action. The 2020 vote on the rule changes split along party lines, with Republican commissioners in support. While the SEC declined to comment on the ruling, the plaintiffs expressed disappointment and affirmed their commitment to corporate engagement on environmental and social issues.SEC wins dismissal of lawsuit challenging tighter rules on shareholder proposals | ReutersOpenAI filed an appeal challenging a court order that requires it to indefinitely preserve ChatGPT output data in an ongoing copyright lawsuit brought by The New York Times. OpenAI argues the order conflicts with its user privacy commitments and sets a troubling precedent. The preservation directive was issued last month after The Times requested that all relevant log data be maintained and segregated.OpenAI CEO Sam Altman publicly criticized the order on social media, affirming the company's stance against actions it sees as compromising user privacy. The appeal, filed on June 3, asks U.S. District Judge Sidney Stein to vacate the preservation requirement. The lawsuit, filed in 2023, accuses OpenAI and Microsoft of using millions of Times articles without permission to train ChatGPT. In April, Judge Stein ruled that The Times had plausibly alleged that OpenAI and Microsoft may have encouraged users to reproduce copyrighted content. The ruling rejected parts of a motion to dismiss the case and allowed several of the Times' claims to move forward, citing multiple examples of ChatGPT generating material closely resembling Times articles.OpenAI appeals data preservation order in NYT copyright case | ReutersPresident Donald Trump's 2026 budget proposal includes a plan to eliminate the Legal Services Corporation (LSC), an independent agency that funds civil legal aid for low-income Americans. The proposal seeks $21 million for an "orderly closeout" of the organization, which had requested $2.1 billion to meet growing demand. The LSC supports 130 nonprofit legal aid programs that assist with issues such as evictions, disaster recovery, and access to public benefits.Critics warn that the move would devastate legal aid access for millions, particularly in rural areas and the South. In Louisiana, for example, there is just one legal aid lawyer for every 11,250 eligible residents. Legal aid leaders say they already turn away half of those seeking help due to budget constraints, and the proposed funding cut would further limit their reach.Organizations like Southeast Louisiana Legal Services and Legal Aid of North Carolina would lose 40–50% of their funding, jeopardizing services for communities still recovering from recent hurricanes. Legal Services NYC, the largest legal aid provider in the country, has implemented a hiring freeze in anticipation of possible cuts. The proposal revives a long-standing conservative goal. Past Republican efforts to dismantle the LSC date back to the Reagan era, and Trump made a similar attempt in 2018. The Heritage Foundation has accused the LSC of supporting controversial causes, but legal aid advocates argue the organization is vital to community stability and fairness in the justice system.Trump Plan to Ax Legal Aid a Conservative Aim That Targets PoorIn a piece I wrote for Forbes last week, I discuss how the IRS has quietly released the underlying codebase for its Direct File program on GitHub, marking a rare moment of transparency in government software. At the center of this release is something called the “Fact Graph,” a logic engine that models tax rules as interrelated facts rather than a linear checklist. Built using XML and Scala, the Fact Graph interprets ambiguous tax data, identifies contradictions or omissions, and suggests paths forward, all in a transparent, declarative format. What sets this apart is that, unlike proprietary tax software, Direct File's logic isn't hidden—it's open, reviewable, and potentially improvable by anyone. This move not only demystifies some of the inner workings of tax enforcement but also sets a precedent: if algorithms are mediating our legal obligations, we should be able to see and understand the rules they follow. The release is particularly striking in an era of eroding public trust in institutions and increasing reliance on automated decision-making. While Direct File itself remains limited in scope and its future uncertain, the open-sourcing of its logic engine may have laid the groundwork for broader change. Other agencies—from state tax departments to those experimenting with AI-driven policy enforcement—could adopt similar transparency, allowing the public to engage with and even help refine the systems that govern them.Peeking Behind The Code—IRS Just Open-Sourced Direct FileThis week's closing theme is by Robert Schumann and comes courtesy of Christopher Zbinden. This week's closing theme is Robert Schumann's Toccata in C major, Op. 7, a dazzling showcase of Romantic-era pianism and one of the most technically demanding works in the standard repertoire. Composed in 1830 and revised in 1833, the piece earned a reputation early on as a pianist's Everest—Franz Liszt himself dubbed it “the hardest piece ever written.” Clocking in at just over five minutes when played at tempo, it's a relentless whirlwind of perpetual motion, requiring both physical stamina and interpretive precision. The toccata form, traditionally a virtuosic keyboard piece emphasizing dexterity, becomes in Schumann's hands something more cerebral. Beneath its bravura surface lies a structure built on two contrasting themes, developed with intricate counterpoint and rhythmic displacement. The left hand must execute rapid repeated notes and wide leaps with precision, while the right weaves through syncopated figures and chromatic runs, creating a dense musical texture.Schumann dedicated the piece to his friend Ludwig Schuncke, who had recently died at the age of 23. That personal connection adds an emotional layer to a work that might otherwise be heard as pure technical spectacle. Unlike many showpieces of the era, Schumann's Toccata isn't just difficult for difficulty's sake—it's an expression of obsession, energy, and youthful ambition. For a composer better known for lyrical piano miniatures, the Toccata is an early signal of the depth and range Schumann would explore in later works. As this week closes, it offers a fitting sendoff: intricate, driven, and a little manic—in the best Romantic sense of the word.Without further ado, Robert Schumann's Toccata in C major, Op. 7 – enjoy! A civil lawsuit alleging that Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter and Sean "Diddy" Combs sexually assaulted a woman when she was 13 years old has been voluntarily dismissed. The plaintiff, referred to as Jane Doe, claimed the assault occurred at an afterparty following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. Filed in federal court in Manhattan, the case was dismissed with prejudice, preventing any future refiling of the same claims. Jay-Z consistently denied the allegations, describing them as "frivolous, fictitious, and appalling," and expressed relief at the lawsuit's dismissal, noting the trauma the accusations caused his family. Sean Combs, who is currently awaiting trial on separate racketeering and sex trafficking charges, also maintained his innocence regarding these allegations. The lawsuit, initially filed solely against Combs in October 2024, was amended in December to include Jay-Z as a defendant. The plaintiff's attorney, Tony Buzbee, declined to comment on the reasons for the dismissal. Jay-Z's legal team emphasized that their client did not settle or make any payments related to the case, underscoring their stance that the allegations were without merit. While this particular lawsuit has been dismissed, Combs continues to face numerous other civil lawsuits and criminal charges, with his trial scheduled for May 2025.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Jay-Z & Sean "Diddy" Combs Rape Suit Dismissed

They emphasize that without clear evidence linking Combs to the alleged illegal activities in Count Three, the charge should be dismissed to uphold the principles of fair notice and due process.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:gov.uscourts.nysd.628425.153.0.pdf
