This week's HR Uprising Podcast episode is a very special masterclass on the topic of burnout and how you can avoid it. Expertly delivered by the CEO of Thor Projects, Robert Bogue, who's also the author of ‘Extinguish Burnout', a collection of solutions designed to help everyone identify the root causes, and avoid the “depletion of personal agency” that leads to burnout. KEY TAKEAWAYS Certainly, burnout can occur in any aspect of life; home, community or work. Inefficacy, the feeling of not being able to do anything, is what drives burnout, and occurs when we experience the feeling of loss of control or influence. Stress comes in two parts: the stressor (the thing in your environment that you are reacting to), and the assessment (the impact of the stressor, and your resources for working around it). Indeed, as HR professionals, we must seek to avoid viewing our workforce as a commodity, or we fail to engage effectively. We can avoid burnout by focussing on the parts of our lives in which we do excel. Furthermore, if we feel that we are effective at one area, it can reinforce the belief we have in ourselves that we can excel in others. Our personal agency is topped up three factors: The results we achieve The support we receive The care we take of ourselves BEST MOMENTS ‘Cynicism is what happens when you no longer feel you can control or influence a situation' 'Stress is a payday loan!' ‘You don't have to like a behaviour, but you don't have to let it affect how you view yourself' 'The way that we truly evaluate and end up in burnout, is that we look at the past' VALUABLE RESOURCES The HR Uprising Podcast | Apple | Spotify | Stitcher Host of The HR Uprising Podcast, Lucinda Carney, is also the founder and CEO of Actus Software, where you can find additional free HR Resources: https://actus.co.uk/free-performance-management-resources/ Extinguish Burnout by Rob and Terri Bogue www.extinguishburnout.com Actus Software resources particularly relevant to this podcast: 5 Steps to Boost Employee Energy Infographic 10 Tips for Managers to Encourage Wellbeing Infographic 11 Ways to Enhance your Wellbeing Infographic How to Prioritise Self-Care Worksheet The HR Uprising Podcast | Apple | Spotify | Stitcher The HR Uprising LinkedIn Group Change Superhero Resources Book: How To Be A Change Superhero - by Lucinda Carney Free Change Toolkit: www.changesuperhero.com Latest Performance Management Blog ABOUT THE GUEST Robert Bogue has a driving passion for delivering solutions through both teaching and learning. Carl and Richard chat with Robert Bogue about the adventure that is requirements gathering. The conversation starts out with a sharing of war stories, talking about finding the right people to talk to in order to understand the overall application requirements in general, much less individual specifications. Robert talks a bit about a variety of techniques for requirements gathering, referencing some of the Agile Manifesto in the process, but recognizing that requirements themselves are largely methodology independent - it just takes relentless investigation and a goal of thoroughly understanding the system. Richard chats with Robert Bogue about the current state of SharePoint 2013. As Robert states, there still isn't a shrink-wrap version of SharePoint 2013, but if you have a Volume License Agreement or similar, you can download SharePoint 2013 today. But should you? The conversation digs into the cloud focus of SharePoint 2013, and how installation and configuration has gotten substantially more complex - it's all about the certificates! Or you can run in the cloud. If you can, take a SharePoint 2013 VM out for a spin and decide for yourself!
While on the .NET Rocks Visual Studio 2012 Launch Road Trip, Richard sat down with Robert Bogue to talk about ten of the most common mistakes made with Sharepoint. The conversation covers the gambit of Sharepoint infrastructure challenges including SQL Server, disk storage as a whole, networking, monitoring and more!
Richard talks to Robert Bogue about his Nine Keys to SharePoint Success. The conversation starts off with an acknowledgement that a SharePoint implementation, like any business-related project, needs a shared vision that creates value for a business for there to be any chance of success. After all, if you don't define success, how can you know when you've achieved it? From there, Robert discusses the impact of culture change on SharePoint implementations, honestly evaluating how the project is going, the relationship that IT has with the business and how platitudes can keep us from digging deep into problems. Finally, there are some simple things, like the right defaults, that can help make a SharePoint solution successful.
