I am so excited to bring you this conversation with the extraordinary Es Devlin, who joined me at Liberty last week to celebrate the release of How to Live an Artful Life. Es Devlin is an artist and stage designer renowned all over the world for her large-scale performative sculptures and environments – from theatre and opera design for the National Gallery and Royal Opera House, to kinetic stage sculptures for musicians like Beyoncé, U2 and Lady Gaga. She has also created luminous installations at the V&A, Serpentine Galleries, Somerset House, and more. Whether designing for Beyoncé, the opera, or creating public artworks, Es Devlin's works dissolve the boundaries between art, architecture and performance, and encourage us to rethink our position in the world. Expertly led by the wonderful Hannah Macinnes, we touched on all things to do with living an artful life – Es's morning routine; how we can get better at focusing our attention on one thing; artmaking as an expression of love; the artist hustle – and so much more. I can't wait for you to hear it. A veteran to the jungle and footwork scenes, Austrian based artist Simon Hafner aka Sun People has steadily grown a dedicated following through his string of strong releases on Exit Records, Defrostatica, Outlines, and Candy Mountain. Now reaching a new milestone in his musical career, Hafner is starting down his own path by launching a new label dedicated to his own productions and projects with like-minded artists. All Things Records starts off with a raucous bang as Hafner holds nothing back in his first album on the label titled Look Within. Coming in a blistering 10 tracks, there is something for everyone to be found within. Expertly playing with a variety of inspirations and samples, the tracks ebb and flow but stay coherent. Through playful moments, and ambient, space filled interludes, the production is top tier, and the sound design equally so. A well picked, and compiled body of work that showcases the scope of what Sun People can do. This Morning is the ending track of Look Within, and while last, certainly not least. The haunting disembodied voice lays the groundwork for a deep and dark percussion line that picks up after a breathy start. Energetic and seductive, the track entices you in and before you know it, you're bouncing around without a care in the world. This Morning, and the rest of ‘Look Within' will be released both digitally and on vinyl via Bandcamp on the 17th of October. @sun_people www.instagram.com/sunpeople_official/ Write up by @huedj Follow us on social media: @itsdelayed linktr.ee/delayed www.delayed.nyc www.facebook.com/itsdelayed www.instagram.com/_____delayed www.youtube.com/@_____delayed Contact us: info@delayed.nyc

3/8. In The Iliad, Professor Emily Wilson highlights the narrative's sophisticated literary techniques, comparing them to an English novel. The poem expertly navigates between an omniscient narrator and individual characters' points of view, delving into their minds. Wilson also notes the challenges of translating ancient Greek, citing, for example, the existence of three distinct words for "spear," each carrying specific connections that she endeavors to render dynamically into modern English. This intricate storytelling was a hallmark of 7th-century BCE Greek. 1200 TROY

I'm often surprised how many of us were not taught about the anatomy of our external genitalia, so when we're talking about labiaplasty, many people are confused about what that means. Today I'm talking about the difference between the labia minora and the labia majora, and why some women might seek to surgically change either or both of these areas. This can particularly be an issue in midlife because of fat loss, as well as naturally aging skin. While no one needs a labiaplasty, it is a choice that many women make in order to restore their comfort and self-confidence. Having done hundreds of these surgeries, I cannot only confidently counsel you about the pros and cons of making this choice, but I can also provide the best outcome if you do decide to proceed.

The Incarcerations: Bk-16 and the Search for Democracy in India (OR Books, 2024) pulls back the curtain on Indian democracy to tell the remarkable and chilling story of the Bhima Koregaon case, in which 16 human rights defenders (the BK-16) – professors, lawyers, journalists, poets – have been imprisoned, without credible evidence and without trial, as Maoist terrorists. Alpa Shah unravels how these alleged terrorists were charged with inciting violence at a year's day commemoration in 2018, accused of waging a war against the Indian state, and plotting to kill the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Expertly leading us through the case, Shah exposes some of the world's most shocking revelations of cyber warfare research, which show not only hacking of emails and mobile phones of the BK-16, but also implantation of the electronic evidence that was used to incarcerate them. Through the life histories of the BK-16, Shah dives deep into the issues they fought for and tells the story of India's three main minorities – Adivasi, Dalits and Muslims – and what the search for democracy entails for them. Essential and urgent, The Incarcerations reveals how this case is a bellwether for the collapse of democracy in India, as for the first time in the nation's history there is a multi-pronged, coordinated attack on key defenders of various pillars of democracy. In so doing, Shah shows that democracy today must be not only about protecting freedom of expression and democratic institutions, but also about supporting and safeguarding the social movements that question our global inequalities. About the Author: Alpa Shah is the Professor of Social Anthropology at Oxford, with a Fellowship at All Souls College. She has written and presented for BBC Radio 4 Crossing Continents and From Our Own Correspondent. Matt Crawford speaks with author Michael Cannell about his book, Blood and the Badge: The Mafia, Two Killer Cops, and a Scandal That Shocked the World. No episode in NYPD history surpasses the crimes committed by Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa, two decorated detectives who covertly acted as mafia informants and paid assassins for the mob in 1980s Brooklyn. For more than ten years, Eppolito and Caracappa moonlighted as the mob's early warning system, leaking names of mobsters secretly cooperating with the government and crippling investigations by sharing details of surveillance, phone taps, and impending arrests. The Lucchese boss called the two detectives his crystal ball: Whatever detectives knew, the mafia soon learned. Most grievously, Eppolito and Caracappa earned bonuses by staging eight mob hits, pulling the trigger themselves at least once. Cannell takes us on a deep dive, grabs us by the throat and never let's go. Expertly researched and written, Blood and the Badge reads like a screenplay, almost too outlandish to believe. But make no mistake, these stories are true and so are their victims. Cannell makes sure we maintain our humanity as we read and wait to see if justice will prevail.
