She co-wrote her first book, Crimson Letters: Voices from Death Row, with four men serving death sentences in North Carolina, whom she met while volunteering at North Carolina’s Central Prison in 2014. He has been a death row inmate at North Carolina's Central Prison since 1996, sentenced to death after the murder of a fellow inmate while serving a sentence for a previous murder. Alim has since taken accountability for his actions, has found his faith, and advocates for innocent prisoners on death row. As Humans, we belong in a group. Much like horses, belonging to a group (or herd) allows us to truly thrive. So, what can we learn from horses to help us better connect with those around us, and enable us to lead in more effective ways? When a leader is fired from an organization, what are your initial thoughts? While this could be seen as a failure by the leader, what if, in some cases, it actually represents an organization that does not tolerate new ways of thinking? In this episode, I speak to Paul McCarthy, author of the upcoming book Fired Leadership, about why we may need to reframe why top talent gets fired. We often discuss the importance of company culture in terms of an image, a feeling, or a cool atmosphere. However, what happens when we think about it in a tactical sense, at the ground level, within teams, when high stakes are on the line? In this episode, I speak to Erik Mineo and Alexis Brandolini, Co-Founders of the Alpha Echo Project, about what they've learned about teamwork from an elite Army unit, the importance of strong trust within teams, and why understanding individual responsibilities is critical when achieving important goals. The COVID pandemic has led to devastating job losses in 2020. But, can companies avoid substantial layoffs during difficult times? Today's guess believes that they not only can, but should. With recent events and the resulting protests due to social injustice, the current moment has shaken many of us in a way that inspires us to shape a better future. In this episode, I speak to Diversity and Inclusion Strategist Kristina Smith about diversity, race and the importance of having the ability to be exactly who we are in our work and in the world. We hear a lot about the importance of well-being. However, during challenging times, how effective are we at integrating it into our lives? In this episode, I speak to Dr. Darian Parker, fitness and wellness expert, co-partner of Epic Leisure Management, and the host of the podcast Dr. D's Social Network, about the importance of wellbeing, his thoughts about the future, and the power of personal initiative in achieving goals. Bio: Dr. Darian Parker earned his Ph.D in Sports Education Leadership with an emphasis in Behavior Modification from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. He earned his Master and Bachelor degrees from James Madison University in Kinesiology with concentrations in Exercise Leadership, Athletic Administration and Advanced Coaching. Dr. Parker is also a certified personal trainer through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Dr. Parker has been in the fitness and wellness business for 19 years. Throughout the course of Dr. Parker’s career he has served several roles in the fitness and wellness industry. After working in the academic environment, Dr. Parker worked for WTS International as the General Manager for Club Ridges, an upscale private fitness club located within the gates of the exclusive Ridges community in Las Vegas.
