Dylan is someone who "loves work, and the work I do in all fields, but I want to be defined by the creative and curious energy I put into the world". He has lived in 22 different households. Holds a BFA in performance acting from Ryerson University and a certificate in Stage Combat from the Academy of Dramatic Combat. He has spent the last few years dividing his time between that and the creative side of hospitality (which is honestly super creative) while focusing his continued artistic study on fight direction and education.Show NotesMentionshttps://www.canadianplayoutlet.com/products/two-plays-butlers-marsh-tempting-providence-by-robert-chafe (Tempting Providence) by Robert Chafe and the play was directed by https://nac-cna.ca/en/bio/jillian-keiley ( Jillian Keiley)Movie: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2883512/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 (Chef) by Jon Faverauhttps://mckittrickhotel.com/sleep-no-more/ (Sleep No More at the McKittrick Hotel) in New York CityDylan's SocialsInsatgram: @old.pal.dylIMDB: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm6039449/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm6039449/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1)Demo reels:https://vimeo.com/209908851 (https://vimeo.com/209908851)https://vimeo.com/281062580 (https://vimeo.com/281062580)Cocktail videos:https://youtu.be/whm_O-mgtI4 (https://youtu.be/whm_O-mgtI4)https://youtu.be/4CheTxVu2ks (https://youtu.be/4CheTxVu2ks)https://youtu.be/5RPimBVEd3o (https://youtu.be/5RPimBVEd3o)https://youtu.be/_QjYezu86ac (https://youtu.be/_QjYezu86ac)https://youtu.be/0mmpGRWJmw8 (https://youtu.be/0mmpGRWJmw8)

Chris talks to Governor General award-winning playwright Robert Chafe about his play "Between Breaths", a life-affirming look at the life of Dr. Jon Lien who was known as the "Whale Man of Newfoundland". They discuss how Robert's experience growing up as a gay man in Newfoundland and how the death of one of his main collaborators impacted this work.
Robert Chafe is a 2010 Governor General Award recipient for his play, Afterimage. His extensive body of work also includes such plays as Place of First Light, Charismatic Death Scenes, Belly Up, Emptygirl, Oil and Water, Butler's Marsh, and Tempting Providence. Butler's Marsh and Tempting Providence also earned Robert a 2004 Governor General Award nomination. Robert is Artistic Director for the company, Artistic Fraud, based in St. John's, and he collaborates quite frequently with our head of English Theatre here at the NAC, fellow Newfoundlander, Jillian Keiley. We are incredibly fortunate that Robert is able to join us today to talk about his work, Heirloom. The NAC Orchestra and Shallaway Youth Choir performed "Heirloom" by Larysa Kuzmenko and Robert Chafe (based on Brahms Intermezzo, Op. 118, No. 2) on April 27, 2017.
Robert Chafe is an award winning playwright whose work has been seen across Canada, the UK, and Australia. Two of his plays ("Tempting Providence" and "Butler's Marsh"), were shortlisted for the Governor General's Award for Drama. His play "Afterimage" won the award in 2010. Robert is Artistic Director and playwright for Artistic Fraud of Newfoundland, where he frequently collaborates with NAC English Theatre Artistic Director Jillian Keiley. In the podcast we discuss his transition from playwriting to writing a collection of short stories. Robert shares his experience seeing his plays on stage and watching the audiences' reaction to them. He mentions that observing audiences has lead him to understand that "how I feel about my work actually has nothing to do with how an audience is going to experience it."
Air Date: April 9. 2017. Award-winning playwrights and short-story writers Robert Chafe and Megan Coles apologized repeatedly for straying into theatre-talk when we started talking about books. The conversation was wide-ranging and lovely, and we uncovered the real reason for Newfoundland's rich literary culture, as well as establishing the fact that Robert Chafe does not, in fact, have all the answers. Check out the book list from this podcast at http://shelfesteem2017.wordpress.com
A sweeping drama of personal and political ambition follows soon-to-be Premier Joey Smallwood – the self-described “Last Father of Confederation” – as he propels the Dominion of Newfoundland into union with Canada in 1949. Both saint and sinner, the charismatic, controversial Smallwood is hounded every step of the way by witty, booze-soaked reporter Sheilagh Fielding – his intellectual equal and lifelong nemesis. With a crackling narrative, sultry jazz score and a cast of forty characters, The Colony of Unrequited Dreams is an epic and expansive retelling of a defining Canadian story. “My collaborator Robert Chafe started working on Wayne Johnston's epic in 2009. It was a nearly impossible task – a story spanning 25 years with the most unlikely hero and villain combined in one man as ever landed in our collective history. This production debuted in January 2015 and I'm really proud to bring it to our national stage.” – Jillian Keiley, Artistic director, NAC English Theatre “Artistic Fraud is one of the most innovative and exciting theatre companies in Canada. The set design and staging were kinetic, memorable, elemental. Desks, chairs, walls, and actors slid and curved into place like perfectly thrown curling stones – like the stage floor was made of smooth ice. I found myself wishing that Colony of Unrequited Dreams could be made into a mini-series.” - NFLDTXT.COM An Artistic Fraud of Newfoundland (St. John's) production in collaboration with Canada's National Arts Centre.
Experience this English Theatre production through an encounter with Associate Artistic Director Sarah Garton Stanley as she interviews two special guests who offer unique perspectives on the piece: Robert Chafe, Playwright, Oil and Water and Laurell Brault, Captain, United States Navy, Retired.

In particular, they discuss the Newfoundland accent and the rare occasions when it is presented in Canadian […]
