And with that, the 2024-25 NHL season has come to a close and for a second straight season, the Florida Panthers are Stanley Cup Champions. Jason and Frank kicked off today's episode of The DFO Rundown by talking about the Panthers once again winning hockey's ultimate prize. For GM Bill Zito, the celebration is short-lived as he now has to focus on trying to keep this group together despite a tight salary cap situation. Frank talked about just how many of the big free agents he thinks the Panthers could hang onto. They then talked about the Edmonton Oilers, who got to within two games of winning it all. Now, they face a lot of big offseason questions. The first is around Evander Kane and the NHL's investigation into their use of LTIR. Frank gave some insight into that. They also talked about the Trent Frederic extension. They then got into their Eastern Conference offseason preview, beginning with the Philadelphia Flyers. The list of needs for GM Danny Briere is long and they have plenty of assets and cap space to use if they want to. The Boston Bruins are going to be looking to bounce back and add some scoring punch to their roster but they are not the only team in that boat. The Rangers, Red Wings, and Sabres are all looking to take steps forward.Tyler then popped on for Buy or Sell, where he asked the guys about what playoff team is going to be the busiest this summer and how many players from this last Cup Final could he Hall of Famers one day.0:15 - Panthers repeat as Cup Champs4:00 - Evander Kane Investigation11:30 - Trent Frederic Extension17:30 - Philadelphia Flyers23:00 - Boston Bruins28:45 - Buffalo Sabres35:50 - Pittsburgh Penguins39:25 - New York Islanders42:55 - New York Rangers46:25 - Detroit Red Wings50:05 - Columbus Blue Jackets56:20 - Buy or SellWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Kick off your week with an all new episode of The DFO Rundown with Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli as they give you a full offseason preview for each of the eight non-playoff teams in the Western Conference. They started in the basement with the San Jose Sharks, who have boatloads of cap space. Should GM Mike Grier spend like crazy? Or stay the course? The guys debated that. They then had a similar conversation about the Chicago Blackhawks. The Nashville Predators were one of the more disappointing teams in the NHL this year and now, they'll try to get things back on the rails. That could involve trading one of the players they signed last summer. The Seattle Kraken have some contracts that Frank thinks they need to move and probably won't be buyers.Speaking of buyers, that's the expectation in both Anaheim and Utah. Both Frank and Jason agreed that those two teams should be very aggressive this summer. They then went up to Canada to talk about the Vancouver Canucks, who are trying to turn over a new leaf after a drama filled 2024-25 season and have some clear holes on their roster. The Calgary Flames were one of the more positive surprises in the NHL and instead of heading towards a rebuild, GM Craig Conroy could try to add to this group and try make them a legit playoff team.Tyler then popped on for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about Sam Bennett's Conn Smythe chances and the rumblings about NHL expansion. They wrapped up the show with some Stanley Cup Final talk as the Panthers have the Oilers on the brink of elimination for a second consecutive season. Frank and Jason are back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown. There's only been one Stanley Cup Final game since the last pod on Monday, so today they focused more on some offseason topics, starting with the first trade of the summer as Chris Kreider is on the verge of being dealt to the Anaheim Ducks. After breaking down that deal, they got into Frank's five offer sheet candidates including Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies. Could a team take a big swing and offer Knies a $10m+ deal? Frank thinks it's possible but Gregor says any team doing that would be foolish. From there, they talked about what the Rangers' next move could be and speculated on K'Andre Miller's future with the team. They also broke down the Isaac Howard situation in Tampa Bay.Tyler then popped on for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about Mitch Marner's rights, two of the new big names on Frank's trade targets board, and he led them into some Stanley Cup Final talk. They wrapped up the show by talking about some potential adjustments for the Edmonton Oilers as they look to bounce back from getting blown out in Game 3. For the Panthers, they'll look to take a 3-1 stranglehold and get to within one win of their second straight Stanley Cup.1:30 - Kreider to the Ducks7:30 - Offer sheet watch12:10 - Could Knies make $10m+?26:30 - Rangers next move29:15 - Isaac Howard's future35:00 - Buy or Sell42:38 - Stanley Cup FinalWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Frank and Jason are back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown as the Stanley Cup Final has officially become a best-of-five series. The guys got into the Stanley Cup Final towards the end of the podcast. They started things off by talking about Frank's buyout candidate list that was released on Friday. Matt Dumba, TJ Brodie and others appear to be players that could have their contracts bought out ahead of free agency this year. From there, they talked about the Dallas Star's decision to fire Pete DeBoer and how it's going to be the first of many big decisions that GM Jim Nill will have to make this summer. They talked about the team's decision to pass on Seth Jones at the trade deadline, the Jason Robertson trade rumours and the team's pending free agents.Tyler then jumped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about potential landing spots for Jonathan Toews, the Conn Smythe trophy odds and who could lead the Stanley Cup Final in scoring. To wrap, the guys got into the Stanley Cup Final where the Florida Panthers got a massive win in Game 2 of the series and now things are all tied up heading down the Sunrise, Florida. The Stanley Cup Final is officially underway and both Jason and Frank were in the building last night to take in the action from Edmonton. They talked about the atmosphere inside Rogers Place and what stood out in Game 1 of the series. It was a tight checking game that was ultimately decided by one goal. Gregor talked about some of the historical feats that occurred last night with the Oilers comeback and Draisaitl's overtime winner. Frank talked about how if this series is going to be tight, the Oilers depth could be a massive advantage. One thing the guys both agreed on: this should end up being a pretty long series. After that, Tyler popped on with a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about the last two teams who filled their Head Coaching vacancies, Brock Nelson's three-year extension in Colorado, and the idea of the players voting on more year end awards, which led to an interesting discussion about the NHL Awards. From there, the guys went more in depth on the Marco Sturm hiring in Boston and the Penguins deciding on a first time Head Coach themselves in Dan Muse. Frank had thought on what this could mean for the future of the Pittsburgh Penguins. They also talked about what Gary Bettman had to say at his annual Stanley Cup Final press conference and had a conversation about the LTIR loop hole, state income come and more.1:10 - Oilers comeback to win Game 113:20 - The Oilers Depth20:10 - Buy or Sell34:40 - Bruins hire Sturm37:10 - Dan Muse gets the Penguins job45:20 - Kucherov wins Lindsay48:30 - Bettman SpeaksWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Frank and Jason are back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown as they previewed this year's Stanley Cup Final, which is a rematch of last year's battle between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers. They began by talking about each of these teams paths to the final. The Oilers have been picked against in a lot of their series and yet, have finished off each of the last two rounds in just five games. Does that say more about their competition? Or the level of play they're at? Gregor says their ability to play near mistake free hockey is the big reason why they've been able to roll through the last few rounds.Frank talked about how the Florida Panthers have some fresh faces in their lineup as well and that we shouldn't be discounting the defending Stanley Cup Champions. They also had a pretty tough path to get back to this point beating a trio of really good teams. They also talked about players like Jake Walman and Brad Marchand, whose fingerprints should be all over this series. To wrap, they shared who their x-factors are in this series and gave their picks for both the series and the Conn Smythe Trophy.Tyler then jumped on for Fill in the Blank where he talked to the guys about the teams that both the Oilers and Panthers have eliminated thus far and how different they could look to start next season. He also got their take on Pete DeBoer's decision to pull Jake Oettinger and his comments after the game.To wrap up, Frank gave some insight into the final two coaching vacancies that still exist in both Pittsburgh and Boston. Frank and Jason kicked off today's episode of The DFO Rundown by talking about the first Trade Targets list of the summer that dropped earlier this week. They started at the top of the list with Sabres forward JJ Peterka, who is a pending RFA. How could the Sabres move on from Peterka and improve at the same time? The guys discussed that and a hypothetical deal involving Marco Rossi, who is also in Frank's top five. From there, they talked about a few of the defensemen on the list, starting with Rasmus Andersson and his future with the Flames and then they had a big discussion about what the Pittsburgh Penguins could do with Erik Karlsson. If the Penguins were willing to retain a significant portion of his salary, would there be a market for the former 100-point defenseman? Gregor found a spot that he thinks make a lot of sense. They also touched on Jamie Oleksiak of the Seattle Kraken, who is entering the final year of his deal.Tyler then joined for Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about the Rangers situation with Chris Kreider, the Kraken selling off assets, Demko's future in Vancouver, and Sam Bennett's case to be a $10m player. The guys then turned their attention to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Oilers got a big win in Game 4 of the Western Conference Final but it came at a brutal cost as they lost Zach Hyman for the remainder of the postseason. They talked about how the Oilers will adjust their lineup and how much losing Hyman impacts their Stanley Cup chances.1:20 - JJ Peterka & The Sabres5:00 - Rossi for Peterka?11:25 - Rasmus Andersson & The Flames15:20 - Karlsson's future in Pittsburgh28:10 - Buy or Sell (Kreider, the Kraken, & Demko)38:30 - Oilers lose HymanWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Frank and Jason are back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown to kick off the week.To begin things today, they talked about the Islanders' decision to go with Mathieu Darche as their next General Manager. He takes over a pretty flawed Isles roster and will certainly have his work cut out for him. The guys talked about what's on his checklist for this summer and the decision that looms involving current Head Coach Patrick Roy.After that, they dug into the Conference Finals. We've seen three games in both the East and West and one series has been much more interesting than the others. The Florida Panthers have been absolutely pummeling the Carolina Hurricanes, which has raised some questions about the Canes roster and also Rod Brind'Amour, who is close to losing his 12th straight Conference Finals game.Out west, the Oilers took a 2-1 series lead over the Stars on Sunday. Stuart Skinner turned in another impressive performance, Evan Bouchard continued to shine and Connor McDavid found the back of the net twice. The guys talked about the series and how the Oilers have this feeling like a lot more than a 2-1 series lead.Tyler then joined for ‘Fill in the Blank' where he asked the guys about Mitch Marner's fit in Carolina, their NHL GM of the Year, and the Stanley Cup odds on Bet365.To wrap, the guys talked a little bit about USA's win at the World Hockey Championships.1:10 - Darche lands on Long Island11:30 - Panthers jump out to a 3-0 lead20:25 - Oilers lead Stars 2-138:20 - Fill in the Blank50:00 - USA wins Gold at WorldsWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Jason and Frank are back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown as both conference final series are officially underway and both Game 1's delivered very interesting results. Before they dug into those series, though, they talked about the news that the New York Islanders have asked for permission to speak with Toronto Maple Leafs President Brendan Shanahan. Gregor wondered if this doesn't mean that it's a foregone conclusion that he is leaving MLSE after more than a decade at the helm but Frank was quick to throw a little bit of cold water on that idea. They then talked about the Dallas Stars big comeback in Game 1 against the Edmonton Oilers as they scored five goals in the third period to take the opener. Gregor says that Oilers fans shouldn't be concerned with the result but Frank thinks that anytime a team gives away a game this late in the playoffs, it's worrisome. Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell, where he asked the guys about Morgan Rielly's future in Toronto, the chances of Nikolaj Ehlers signing back in Winnipeg, and which Finnish superstar they would build a team around. After that, they talked about the Florida Panthers series opening victory in the Eastern Conference Final. Gregor continues to be impressed with the mindset of this Panthers core and talked about how that mentality helped them. The guys also had an argument about a certain stat that pertains to the Hurricanes franchise losing streak in the Conference Finals. They wrapped up with a quick little conversation about Mitch Marner and the chances he could end up in Carolina this summer and some comparable players to him around the league.1:20 - Shanahan's future11:40 - Stars storm back in Game 122:20 - Buy or Sell27:40 - Canes drop Game 144:00 - A Marner conversationWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Will next year's team feature Mitch Marner? What about John Tavares? Could there be an even bigger trade coming? From there, they previewed the Hurricanes and Panthers matchup. We had our first team advance to the Conference Final as the Edmonton Oilers eliminated the Vegas Golden Knights in five games. That's where Jason and Frank started today on a new episode of The DFO Rundown. It's the third Western Conference Final in four years for Connor McDavid and company, and this one seems like the most unexpected of the bunch. The guys broke down the decisive series win and the Oilers' chances going forward before getting to the other series.Out East, the Maple Leafs got steamrolled by the Florida Panthers in Game 5 of their series. It was another pivotal moment in the history of this Leafs core and Frank explained why this loss tells us a lot about Toronto's stars. They then pivoted and talked about the two new coaching hires in the NHL as the Philadelphia Flyers landed their guy in Rick Tocchet and the Vancouver Canucks filled their vacancy and elevated Adam Foote to the Head Coaching position. Gregor asked the question of which new coach is in a better position going forward.Frank also gave an update on some other coaching vacancies and the candidates to fill them.Tyler then popped in with a new edition of Fill in the Blank, where he asked the guys about Frank's Top 50 free agent list, Ken Holland's shopping list in Los Angeles and the other two series going on in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. To wrap, they talked a little bit more about Frank's list and gave their takes on the two elimination games that are going on tonight with the Canes having the Caps on the ropes and the Jets fighting for their lives against the Stars.1:40 - Oilers eliminate the Golden Knights12:10 - Panthers push Leafs to the brink26:25 - Foote takes over in Vancouver & Flyers land Tocchet34:00 - Other coaching vacancies35:40 - Buy or Sell45:40 - Top 50 Free AgentsWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Jason and Frank are back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown as the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs continues to roll on. At first, it felt like we might get a few pretty quick series, but the results from this weekend have drastically changed things. To start things off, they looked into the Toronto and Florida series, where the home teams have been absolutely dominant. The Maple Leafs were a bounce away from taking a 3-0 series lead but now, things are all tied up at two as they head back to Toronto for Game 5.They also talked about the Dallas Stars taking a 2-1 series lead on the Winnipeg Jets and some of the headlines that have come from that series like the seven-minute video review, Hellebuyck's play and Mason Marchment hitting a referee with his stick. They also quickly touched on some of the coaching situations around the league, including Joel Quenneville being officially hired by the Anaheim Ducks, before getting to Tyler Yaremchuk and a new edition of Fill in the Blank, where he asked the guys about Frank's latest Top 50 Free Agents ranking. After that, they talked about the other two series from Round 2 as the Golden Knights got a massive last second victory over the Edmonton Oilers to get themselves right back in their series and the Carolina Hurricanes delivered another dominant victory over the Washington Capitals and now have a 2-1 series lead.0:55 - Panthers even up series with Maple Leafs8:40 - Hellebuyck & the Jets14:50 - Marchment's frustration20:40 - Coaching updates27:40 - Fill in the Blank40:00 - Coaching updates42:55 - Canes take 2-1 lead on Caps45:15 - Oilers lose Game 3 & Pickard's status53:20 - NHL Quarter Century TeamWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Frank and Jason are back with a fresh edition of The DFO Rundown as the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs is officially underway. They kicked things off by talking about Mikko Rantanen's dominance in Game 1 of the Dallas Stars series against the Winnipeg Jets. It's his second straight hat-trick and third straight game with three or more points and it's the number one reason why the Stars are even in round two, nevermind leading the series. On the other hand, his performance is also causing more and more people to raise an eyebrow at the Colorado Avalanche front-office. The guys gave their take on Game 1 and the Avs press conference from earlier this week. From there, they talked about the Maple Leafs jumping out to a 2-0 series lead against the Florida Panthers. William Nylander has been incredible and the Leafs got a good performance from Jospeh Woll as well. Are the Panthers in trouble? Or can they grab back momentum as the series shifts back to Florida? They quickly hit on the Canes grabbing Game 1 over the Capitals and the Oilers dominant win over the Golden Knights as they wrestled home ice advantage away from Vegas.Tyler then popped in for Buy or Sell where he asked the guys if any of these second round series will be short, the GM searches in Los Angeles and Long Island, and the Utah Mammoth officially announcing their name and logo. They wrapped up by talking more about the GM searches around the league and Rick Tocchet's job hunt.0:55 - Rantanen nets another hat-trick16:30 - Leafs stun Panthers18:40 - Canes take Game 120:25 - Golden Knights drop Game 129:40 - Buy or Sell40:15 - Kings & Isles GM search43:50 - Tocchet's future48:00 - Sabres front-office52:30 - Canucks Head Coach searchWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? The first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs has come to a close and the drama at the kind of stuff that will have us remembering these playoffs for a really long time. Jason and Frank kicked off today's episode of The DFO Rundown by breaking down the Winnipeg Jets miraculous comeback in Game 7 against the St. Louis Blues and Mikko Rantanen saving the season for Dallas Stars with his heroics. From there, they talked about the teams that were bounced over the last few days. The St. Louis Blues took a step this season, can they find a way to become an elite team in the Western Conference? What will the Wild do this summer? Will the Kings run it back with both Rob Blake and Jim Hiller in charge? Can the Lightning keep their window open for another run? The guys went through all of those questions.Tyler then popped in for Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about their first round MVP, which second round series is the biggest lock to go seven games, and what draft lottery outcome would be the most chaotic? To wrap up the pod, they talked about the Rangers officially hiring Mike Sullivan as their next Head Coach and then they went through every second round series and gave their predictions.1:05 - Rantanen steals series & Jets storm back17:40 - Can the Blues take another step?21:40 - The future of the Wild28:20 - Changes in Los Angeles?35:55 - Has the window closed in Tampa Bay?1:00:55 - Leafs vs Panthers1:02:30 - Canes vs CapitalsWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Jason and Frank are back with another playoff edition of The DFO Rundown as we saw a handful of series come to a close over the last few days. To kick things off today, they dug into the Battle of Florida, which was dominated by the Panthers. Frank wondered why so many people didn't want to believe in the defending Stanley Cup Champions and also talked a little bit about Jon Cooper's future in Tampa Bay. Could he potentially walk away and look to become a General Manager somewhere else? From there, they went to the Capitals vs Canadiens series, which also ended in five games. The Habs put up a good fight but it just wasn't enough as the Caps put them away. Does Washington have the horses to turn this series win into a deep playoff run?The Carolina Hurricanes also punched their ticket to the next round, which put Head Coach Rod Brind'Amour into a pretty exclusive class with his seventh straight first-round win. Can the Canes finally find success later in the playoffs? They also hit on what the Devils need to do this summer to take the next step before Tyler Yaremchuk popped on for a new edition of Buy or Sell. He asked the boys about the chances of a big trade in Montreal, the best landing spots for Rick Tocchet, and which teams have the best and worst chances of coming back from their 3-2 series deficits. To wrap up, they dug into the Leafs' continued struggles in close-out games and the rest of the series that could come to a close tonight.1:00 - Bolts get bounced11:30 - Caps advance14:45 - Devils' next steps19:50 - Canes' chances of going deep31:00 - Buy or Sell43:15 - Game 6 scenariosWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Frank and Jason are back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown and they started today's show with some breaking news: the Pittsburgh Penguins Head Coach Mike Sullivan have parted ways.Where could Sullivan land? Who could the Penguins target as their next Head Coach? The guys answered all of that and more, including some talk about the possibility of University of Denver Head Coach David Carle making the jump to the NHL.They then went through all the other pieces of the league's coaching carousel as there are more than a handful of openings and there could be even more coming. Rick Tocchet's future in Vancouver is still up in the air, as is Patrick Roy's on Long Island. There are plenty of teams looking for a new bench boss and that led the guys to rank the openings from around the league.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he got the guys talking about the wild weekend of Stanley Cup Playoff action. He asked about which teams should be feeling uneasy when it comes to their goaltending, the chances of some 3-1 comebacks & how the Oilers forced their way back into their series with the Kings. To wrap up, the guys talked about some other playoff headlines and what they'll be watching this week.1:00 - Sullivan & Penguins part ways5:15 - David Carle's future8:05 - Tocchet & the Canucks10:55 - Ranking the openings30:55 - Fill in the Blank46:00 - Playoff weekend recap54:20 - Western series all tied upWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Frank and Jason are back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown as they break down the first few games of every playoff series from around the league. They started out in Los Angeles where the Kings won both games at home and now have what feels like a commanding 2-0 series lead on the Edmonton Oilers, who don't look anything like the team that went to game seven of the Stanley Cup Finals last season. Gregor broke down what he believes is plaguing the Oilers.Out East, the Senators are trailing the Maple Leafs 2-0 after the first two games in Toronto. Can Ottawa turn things around with the series shifting to the Canadian Tire Centre, or is this Leafs team different this year? They also hit on the Dallas Stars' stunning win over the Colorado Avalanche in Game 3, the Wild stealing a game in Vegas, and the Jets being up 2-0 on the Blues.Tyler then joined for Buy or Sell, where he asked the guys how many series will end in five games or less, Jim Rutherford's comments about Quinn Hughes, and the Islanders' search for a new GM.To wrap up, they talked about the Rangers' decision to extend GM Chris Drury and the looming decision in Vancouver in regard to Head Coach Rick Tocchet.1:10 - Kings lead Oilers 2-014:00 - Sens trail Leafs 2-018:30 - Stars stun Avs22:55 - Wild & Golden Knights split first 231:15 - Panthers take Game 137:20 - Buy or Sell48:50 - Rangers extend DruryWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? We had five series kick off over the weekend so to begin today's pod, the guys went through each of the results. They started with the Avalanche's big win over the Stars. The Avs stars came to play, Mackenzie Blackwood shone in his first playoff game with the club, and Mikko Rantanen did not look like himself. Is this destined to be a quick series? The Wild, Devils, and Blues all fell behind 1-0 in their series with opening night road losses. Which one of those three are in the most trouble? The guys went through each series. They also talked about the Maple Leafs' decisive Game 1 victory. They looked like a team who wasn't phased by the Battle of Ontario storylines. Was Game 1 proof that this years Leafs' team is different? They then stepped away from the playoff talk and talked about the coaching news around around the league. Both the Anaheim Ducks and New York Rangers fired their coaches over the weekend. Could David Carle be a fit in either one of those spots? They also looked at the tank for Gavin McKenna that could happen next season.Tyler then popped in for Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about the Conn Smythe trophy odds and which one of their series predictions they're most nervous about. They wrapped up with some talk about the Buffalo Sabres and the rest of the playoff series' that haven't gotten going yet.1:25 - Avs take 1-0 lead7:45 - Canes roll over the Devils11:00 - Golden Knights go up on the Wild14:30 - Leafs roll to a Game One victory18:25 - Coaching Changes28:00 - Tanking for McKenna48:10 - Sabres to stand still?52:00 - Remaining round one seriesWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? The playoff picture in the Western Conference is officially set as both the St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild punched their tickets to the postseason earlier in the week. With that, Jason and Frank previewed each of the four first round series that we'll get and gave their picks for each one. Before they got into the playoff talk, they quickly talked about a few teams who's 2024-25 seasons were disappointments including the Nashville Predators and Detroit Red Wings. They also talked about the San Jose Sharks season, which resulted in another last place finish but the guys talked about whether or not this year was actually a success. They then got into the two playoff series in the Central Division, starting with the much anticipated Stars and Avalanche matchup. The Stars are limping into the playoffs while the vibes in Colorado are immaculate with Captain Gabriel Landeskog expected to return to the lineup. Everyone seems to be picking the Avs, but are the Stars being a little overlooked? They also talked about the chances that the Winnipeg Jets make it a relatively short series against the St. Louis Blues. Can Hellebuyck find his form in the playoffs? Was the Blues heater a sign that they're a legit threat to go on a run?Tyler then popped in for Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about what the Flames could do this summer, Rick Tocchet's future in Vancouver, the chances of the Predators moving a big contract, and what wild card teams could pull off an upset. From there, they got into the the Golden Knights vs Wild series, which both Gregor and Frank actually agreed on.They wrapped with a preview of ‘Oilers vs Kings Part 4' and talked about whether or not this year's Kings team is better positioned than ones in the past to finally slay the dragon and take down Connor McDavid and the Oilers.1:30 - Disappointing seasons6:50 - Are the Sharks getting closer?11:00 - Stars vs Avalanche21:30 - Jets vs Blues25:15 - Buy or Sell39:10 - Golden Knights vs Wild46:40 - Oilers vs KingsWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? We are inching closer and closer to the Stanley Cup Playoffs and as the regular season comes to a close over the next few days, there is less and less on the line around the league. As a result, the four matchups in the Eastern Conference are basically all but locked up so today, Jason and Frank previewed each of the series. They started off with the battle between two Sunshine State rivals as the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning will meet in round one. It feels wrong that one of these two will have their season ended in just a few weeks, but the guys gave their picks. They then moved on to the Battle of Ontario as the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators will meet in round one. Are the Leafs finally ready to go on a deep run? Or could this pesky Sens team pull off an upset? Frank and Jason were actually split on this series.Tyler then popped in for Fill in the Blank, where he asked the guys about which eliminated team will look the most different next season and what Matthew Knies' next deal could look like in Toronto. After that, they took a look at the two series in the Metro as the Canes will host the Devils in a series that Frank thinks could be a sweep. They also quickly talked about some potential goaltending decisions that a few teams will have to make before their playoff series begin. They also talked about the Montreal Canadiens' chances of pulling off a major upset and taking down the conference leading Washington Capitals. The vibes are high in Montreal, but do they have the talent to beat a 100+ point team?1:10 - Rangers officially eliminated4:40 - Predictions gone wrong12:20 - Tampa Bay vs Florida20:40 - Toronto vs Ottawa30:10 - Fill in the Blank37:20 - Carolina vs New Jersey46:15 - Washington vs MontrealWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? With Frank Seravalli away for the week, Jason Gregor was joined by Daily Faceoff Prospect analyst Steven Ellis for today's episode of The DFO Rundown. There was a lot of Jason to get to with Steven, who is one of the best prospect analysts in the game, as over the last two weeks, we've seen a handful of big-name prospects make the jump from college and junior to the NHL.They kicked off the pod by talking about the New York Rangers handling of Gabe Perreault, who left college but has been sitting in the press box for his first few games with the Rangers. They also talked about what the Flames could do with Zayne Parekh, who could make his debut before the end of the season. They also touched on the Chicago Blackhawks' next wave of young talent, whether or not Zeev Buium will play in the playoffs with the Minnesota Wild, and how much of an impact Jimmy Snuggerud could have with the Blues. The biggest news of the week though came from Montreal as the Canadiens announced that 19-year-old Ivan Demidov, the 5th overall pick from the 2024 draft, will be coming over from the KHL to join the team for their playoff run. Steven talked about his potential to be a true superstar and whether or not he can make an immediate impact with the club.Tyler then joined for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about a handful of teams who have been officially eliminated from the playoffs, the first confirmed playoff matchup, and whose stock Steven is buying ahead of the 2025 draft. To wrap, they talked about the insane season that Gavin McKenna is having with Medicine Hat and where he could end up next season.2:45 - The playoff picture4:00 - The Rangers' handling of Gabe Perreault6:20 - The Flames with Parekh & Suniev14:05 - Blackhawks' next wave of talent18:05 - The Wild & Buium21:00 - Demidov comes to Montreal24:10 - Blues & Snuggerud27:25 - European free agents33:30 - Buy or Sell43:30 - Gavin McKennaWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? After a historic weekend in the NHL, Frank and Jason decided to record this week's edition of the podcast a little earlier. The two fired things up on a Sunday night to talk about Alex Ovechkin finishing his chase of the NHL's all-time goal record as he found the back of the net for the 895th time and officially passed Wayne Gretzky at the top of the goal-scoring leaderboard. The guys talked about the moment on Long Island, the ceremony, Ovechkin's career and everything else surrounding the record-breaking moment. From there, they talked about some other records and accomplishments that they're love to see get accomplished. From Sidney Crosby to Connor McDavid to Cale Makar, there are some players who have a chance to do some pretty special things. That also led to some talk about just how much longer Crosby and Ovechkin will even be in the league. They also talked about some goal records that could be accomplished and some that are just way too crazy to be matched.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about the Calgary Flames playoff chances both this year and beyond and also the playoff races in each conference. They wrapped up by talking about the memorabilia craze that followed Ovechkin's chase of the record and they took a quick look at the two playoff races in either conference.0:55 - Ovi sets the record24:50 - Other records to watch27:05 - How much longer does Sid have?36:30 - Buy or Sell43:30 - The memorabilia blitz51:30 - Habs punch their ticketWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? To kick off today's edition of the DFO Rundown, Jason and Frank talked about last night's wild finish between the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes. There were over 140 penalty minutes in the game, but the moment that had everyone talking was Jalen Chatfield's takedown of Connor McMichael during their fight. Did Chatfield go too far and could he face supplemental discipline? The guys debated that. From there, they talked about whether or not this Hurricanes team is built well enough to go on a deep playoff run. They also talked about the Maple Leafs heading into the playoffs and the Boston Bruins free fall in the final month of the season. That led to some draft talk and Frank has some ideas on how the league can improve the draft process. With the changes coming to the way that the NCAA allows players in, Frank thinks that now is the perfect time for them to change how the draft works. He explained his thought process and the trickle down effect that it would have on other leagues while Gregor poked some holes in his ideas.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank, where he asked the guys about the Art Ross trophy, Mitch Marner's next contract, and the Cup Contender that they're least bullish on.To wrap, Gregor talked about Gavin McKenna's remarkable run in the WHL and where he could play next season. The tank for McKenna next season could be unlike any we've seen in the last 10 years.1:15 - Chatfield vs McMichael fight9:50 - Can the Canes go on a run?12:00 - Leafs clinch playoff spot19:25 - Bruins free fall21:40 - Frank's Draft plans38:20 - Fill in the BlankWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Frank and Jason return with a new installment of the DFO Rundown. To get things started, they broke down the playoff picture in the West. The St Louis Blues are running away with the final wildcard spot as they continue a hot streak. The guys comment on if they have played their way into serious contender consideration. The Wild could be getting Kirill Kaprizov and Joel Eriksson Ek back from injury before the playoffs. The guys commented on the Wild's playoff chances and the impact of a player like Kaprizov. What kind of contract extension will he sign? Frank thinks it could be one of the biggest contracts in the league. As they continue to analyze potential playoff teams and matchups, they focus on both Conference leaders. The Jets have had a spectacular regular season, but they've done that before. The guys ponder if they will be able to translate that success and make a deep playoff run. On the other side, the Capitals have lost 3 straight. The guys talked about how some adversity could be good for a team that has been so dominant this year.Staying on the east, the guys analyzed the tight playoff race. The Canadiens are holding on to a wildcard spot. Can they get across the line? The Blue Jackets continue to stay in the picture too, as the guys give their takes on who gets the last spot in the east. The guys also looked at some teams at the bottom of the standings. The Sabres have been sneakily hot to end the year. Frank gives his thoughts on if they should blow it up and rebuild regardless. The Blackhawks and Sharks continue to fight for the best lottery odds. The guys also speculate what Ryan Donato's next contract looks like. The guys moved on to Hart talks and the dominance of Leon Draisaitl. Is there any chance he doesn't win it? The guys give their thoughts and list some dark horses.Pat popped in for Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about the Art Ross Race, Atlantic Division, and how deep the blues can go in the playoffs. To wrap it up, the guys looked at the Vegas Golden Knights, who continue to play well and lead the Pacific. Frank wonders if there is any team better prepared to contend than them.1:44 West Wildcard9:03 Conference Leaders (Jets & Capitals)13:08 East Wildcard16:11 The Bottom (Sabres, Sharks & Blackhawks)25:17 Hart Race31:51 Buy or Sell36:47 Golden KnightsWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? To kick off a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown, Jason and Frank talked about the big breaking news of the day: John Tortorella is out as the Head Coach of the Philadelphia Flyers.Tortorella was in the third season of a four-year deal and the Flyers were having their worst season since he was hired. The guys broke down why the Flyers made this decision, debated whether or not his comments from earlier this week had anything to do with it, and discussed where the Flyers will go from here. Frank made the case that they are the team that is the furthest away from being Stanley Cup contenders. They then turned their attention to some other coaching situations around the league and talked about the cycle of hiring re-tread coaches in the league. Could that start to change? Frank talked about how organizations might need to change their mindsets when it comes to coaching.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about the playoff race in the West and the chances that not only the Calgary Flames get in, but the Minnesota Wild fall out of things. He also asked a question about which defensemen outside of Quinn Hughes and Cale Makar have a shot at the Norris Trophy in the next decade.1:00 - The Torts era ends7:00 - What's the future like in Philadelphia?16:30 - The Coaching Market33:10 - Fill in the Blank (Flames, Wild & future Norris wins)Want to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Frank and Jason are back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown. To start things off today, they started talking about the idea that the NHL could potentially be once again looking at expansion. There has been lots of chatter about both Atlanta and Houston as cities that the league could potentially have interest in, but does going to 34 teams make sense? The guys gave their takes on that and Frank tried to explain why the league could want to get this done. They also had some fun tossing around the idea of relegation coming as well. From there, they talked about the Western Wild Card race as the St. Louis Blues continued their hot-streak and now control their own playoff destiny. Their turnaround this season also came after they hired Jim Montgomery, who came over from Boston. That led to some talk about how far away the Bruins are and if that front-office is going to make this through the summer. That conversation naturally turned to another front office that could be seeing some big changes this summer: the Buffalo Sabres. What's the appetite for change in Buffalo? Frank gave some insight.Tyler then popped in for Buy or Sell where he asked a little bit more about front offices that could be changing, the future of the Sharks and Blackhawks, and the Hart Trophy race.To wrap up, they talked a bit about the Jets managing Connor Hellebuycks' workload and if the Jets are leaning too hard on him. They also talked about whether or not the Caps or Jets are better built for a long playoff run.0:40 - Expansion13:55 - Blues red hot run16:10 - Bruins front office25:30 - Sabres & Kevyn Adams32:30 - Buy or Sell43:20 - Hellebuyck's workloadWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Frank and Jason are back for an all new edition of The DFO Rundown as Frank returned from the NHL's GM Meetings. To start the podcast, they talked about the NHL's penalty problem as Frank had a chance to ask some General Managers about the research that Jason did on the drop in penalties this season. Will the league do something to address this? Will they even admit there's a problem? From there, they talked about what was discussed between the 32 GM's earlier this week, starting with the future of the NHL All-Star Game. As it sits right now, there is a game scheduled for right before the 2026 Olympics, but could that change? Frank gave us the latest. They then talked about what could be on the negotiating table as the two sides sit down and try to find labour peace ahead of 2025. There seems to be a pretty high level of confidence that the two sides will be able to figure things out without much struggle.Tyler then popped in for Fill in the Blank, where he asked the guys about a couple of future record chases that the NHL could be seeing in the next decade and the chances of either Winnipeg or Washington going on a heater and getting to the 120-point mark this season. To wrap, the guys talked about Ovechkin's chase of Gretzky, which is coming right down to the wire. 1:10 - The NHL's penalty problem9:00 - Future of the All-Star Game18:20 - The next CBA26:10 - Fill in the Blank37:40 - Ovi & the Gr8 ChaseWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Frank and Jason are back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown as the NHL's playoff race continues to heat up. To start today's show, they looked at some trade deadline additions that are fitting in nicely with their new clubs and a few that are off the rougher starts. That led them to some talk about the Eastern Conference playoff race. The Senators seem to have all but locked up their spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs but the eighth seed is still wide open. The Rangers are the betting odds favourites on Bet365 but both the Canadiens and Blue Jackets are right there in the mix. They also quickly touched on the Pittsburgh Penguins heater and how it's costing them valuable spots in the NHL's Draft Lottery standings. They then went out West, where Leon Draisaitl is on the verge of another 50-goal season. Jason talked about the significance of that while Frank wondered if Draisaitl has the Hart Trophy locked up or if Nathan MacKinnon should be getting more consideration. After that, Jason talked about his latest research project which is centred around the stunning drop in powerplays around the NHL. The numbers are jaw-dropping and led to the guys trying to figure out exactly why they have fallen as hard as they have.To wrap, Tyler popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about the Senators chances of getting a divisional playoff spot, the Jack Adams award, and the upcoming NHL GM Meetings.1:00 - Trade deadline early returns5:25 - Eastern playoff race8:55 - Penguins heater11:40 - Draisaitl chase for 50 & the Hart24:20 - Powerplay drop off32:30 - Buy or Sell (GM Meetings, Jack Adams, Senators heater)Want to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Jason and Frank are back with a fresh edition of the podcast, in which they put a bow on their trade deadline coverage by grading what all the sellers did last Friday. Frank kicked things off with a spicy take and gave which trade he thinks could be this year's version of the infamous Filip Forsberg for Martin Erat trade. From there, they talked about how they felt teams like the Penguins, Bruins, and Sharks did when it came to selling off assets. They also hit on the New Jersey Devils, who became ‘soft buyers' with the injury to Jack Hughes. The guys talked about whether or not they should have sold off.The conversation about the Sharks eventually turned into a Connor Bedard vs Macklin Celebrini comparison as Gregor talked about the overuse of the ‘generational' title and Frank talked about Bedard's path to having a MacKinnon-esque career. They also talked about the Seattle Kraken and Philadelphia Flyers, who both sold off some assets on Friday, before quickly talking about two teams out West that stood still during the deadline period but still find themselves right in the middle of the playoff race.Tyler Yaremchuk then popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank, brought to you by Bet365. Jason and Frank are back with a new episode of The DFO Rundown as the dust has settled on all of the drama that we got on deadline day. To kick things off, they talked about one of the trades that didn't happen on Friday: Mitch Marner to Carolina. How close was a deal and what does this mean for Marner's future with the Toronto Maple Leafs? Frank gave some insight into that and the guys talked about what kind of deal he could get if he hits free agency this summer. From there, they talked about the Mikko Rantanen deal. The fit with Dallas makes a lot of sense, but what about the two teams that have traded him this season? Both the Hurricanes and Avalanche have undergone some massive roster surgery over the last few months, but are they better today? They also talked about the very steep price that the Avalanche paid for Brock Nelson, gave some extra context to why the Hurricanes had to move on from Rantanen, and the Brad Marchand stunner that came in right at the buzzer.Tyler then popped in for Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about the Stanley Cup odds, the chances of a deadline rental signing back with his former team on July 1, and the Devils deadline activity. To wrap things up, they talked about the Cozens for Norris deal and what the teams in the Pacific Division got up to at the deadline.0:53 - Marner's future4:30 - How Rantanen landed in Dallas7:00 - The Avs overhaul12:00 - The Canes return26:00 - Marchand goes to Boston45:20 - Buy or Sell (Stanley Cup odds & NJD)55:50 - Norris for Cozens1:04:10 - Oilers, Kings & Golden Knights1:09:20 - The Canucks deadlineWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli did a special LIVE Trade Deadline preview to get ready for what should be a wild 24 hours around the NHL. As we approach deadline day, there is a new number one on Frank's Trade Targets board as Mikko Rantanen has rocketed up the board. Where could he land? Will the Hurricanes even move him? The guys gave their takes. From there, they talked about what the New Jersey Devils could do now that they'll be without Jack Hughes for the remainder of the regular season and playoffs. Some thought it could lead to them being sellers, but Frank threw cold water on that idea. They also talked about the series of trades we saw yesterday which included the Tampa Bay Lightning making another massive splash and the Pittsburgh Penguins making a puzzling trade with the Nashville Predators. Could Pittsburgh flip the assets that they got?Tyler then popped on for a special edition of Fill in the Blank that was fueled solely by questions from the live chat. They talked about a potential deal between the Avs and Flames, what the Blue Jackets could get up to, and the chances of Brock Nelson heading to Winnipeg. To wrap, they went through some Western Conference teams that could make some noise in the next 24 hours. Frank Seravalli of DFO joins the show to help preview this Friday's trade deadline.
With less than a week to go until the NHL Trade Deadline, we finally saw some trade action over the weekend as a couple of major moves went down. To start, the Florida Panthers made a big splash, acquiring Seth Jones from the Chicago Blackhawks. How significantly did the Panthers change their chances of repeating as Stanley Cup Champions? Did the Blackhawks make a mistake by retaining money? The guys talked about the deal from both sides. They also hit on the deal that saw Ryan Lindgren end up in Colorado as the New York Rangers continued to sell off their pending UFAs. The Avalanche needed some help on the blueline, but will he be enough? Also, could the Rangers turn their attention to adding now that most of their free agents have been offloaded? From there, they dug into Frank's latest Trade Targets board that features a whole bunch of players from the New York Islanders and Seattle Kraken. Will those two teams commit to fully selling off? Frank says it would be a mistake not too. They also touched on deadline plans for the Vancouver Canucks and New Jersey Devils.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about some other deadline situations like who could load up in the Pacific Division, the St. Louis Blues deadline plans, and what the Maple Leafs could get up to.0:55 - Jones lands in Florida8:40 - Avs acquire Lindgren10:55 - What could the Rangers do?13:30 - New Trade Targets31:15 - What's the plan in Vancouver?37:30 - Will the Devils be aggressive?Want to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? With only eight days until the NHL Trade Deadline, Frank Seravalli and Jason went through the Western Conference and what they believe each team could get up to in the next week. They start by discussing the Schenn brothers and the possibility of them both moving at the deadline – and maybe even reuniting for a playoff run.The Winnipeg Jets are trending to be big dogs heading into the playoffs. But will they be able to add to their winning culture, or will they ride the hot hand and stay put? On the flip side, the Seattle Kraken are on Year 5 and still don't seem to be trending in the right direction. What could they do to flip the script?Frank addresses the rumors surrounding Seth Jones and his connections to the Dallas Stars. They also dive into his comments to the media the other day about being unhappy with the Blackhawks' play after a disappointing loss to Utah. Taking a look into the Colorado Avalanche and their deadline plans, Frank and Jason chat about Gabriel Landeskog's health. They then talk about Minnesota's future and the need to boost their center position and powerplay. They believe Bill Guerin should look into Brock Nelson at the deadline. They then move over to the Pacific Division, starting with the L.A. Kings. How do they finally take the next step in the postseason? Could Mikko Rantanen be available and could he end up in Los Angeles?Frank then dives into the Utah Hockey Club and believes they could still make a serious push for the playoffs. With the 4Nations Faceoff now firmly in the rearview mirror, Jason and Frank returned for a new episode of The DFO Rundown. To kick off the show, they looked at some of the injury news that came out of the NHL's mid-season tournament as some teams will now be without some star players as they head down the stretch. There is some drama around the Charlie McAvoy situation, which Frank said was ridiculous, but the Bruins now look like they could be sellers. They have some intriguing rentals but the big question is whether or not they will trade Brad Marchand or one of their defensemen with term.Matt Tkachuk is going to miss some time for the Florida Panthers after sustaining an injury at the 4Nations Face-Off, could that change their deadline plans? GM Bill Zito doesn't have a lot of assets or a lot of cap space, but he's known to be a creative GM. Frank talked about what they could add. They also hit on the Mikko Rantanen situation in Carolina, the New Jersey Devils' plans and whether or not the Washington Capitals will go all-in at the deadline.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about the goaltending situations with the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks. To wrap, they talked about some of the teams that are on the bubble in the Eastern Conference like the Detroit Red Wings, Columbus Blue Jackets and New York Islanders.0:55 - 4Nations Recap & injury news8:50 - Bruins deadline plans14:35 - Can the Panthers add?19:30 - The Canes & Rantanen26:20 - The Devils & their blueline40:20 - Buy or Sell46:00 - The Red Wings blueline54:40 - What will Columbus do?57:15 - The Islanders must sellWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Today on the podcast, Jason Gregor was joined by his usual running mate Frank Seravalli, who was live in Montreal for the 4Nations Face-Off, where things are starting to heat up!The tournament opener created some interesting questions for Team Canada. Where will Travis Sanheim slot in and can he replace Shea Theodore? Should Head Coach Jon Cooper change up his forward lines? And of course, the big one: should Jordan Binnington continue being the starter? The guys gave their take.On the American side of things, it was the ‘Tkachuk Show' on Thursday night as Brady and Matthew absolutely took over the game during USA's 6-1 win over Team Finland. Team USA certainly has some swagger, but can they keep it rolling on Saturday night against Team Canada? From there, they talked about the booing of the American national anthem, the league's change to a ten-minute 3v3 overtime, the 3-2-1-0 point system, Sidney Crosby's performance in game one and other big headlines from the first 48 hours of the tournament.Tyler then popped in for Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about which players impressed in their first game in Montreal and what deadline deals they'd like to see happening. The guys wrapped up with some talk about Frank's annual Trade Deadline Matchmaker article where he looked at some potential fits for some of his trip deadline targets. He had names that he thinks would fit on teams like the Winnipeg Jets, Dallas Stars, and Edmonton Oilers.4:20 - Canada's goaltending situation9:05 - The Tkachuk's big night17:05 - The Bell Centre boos24:19 - Sweden's big point28:40 - Crosby's performance33:00 - Buy or Sell40:00 - Trade MatchmakerWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Frank Seravalli of DFO joins the show to help preview the 4 Nations Faceoff
Frank Seravalli is live in Montreal for the 4Nations Faceoff as the hockey world will see close to true best-on-best hockey for the first time in close to a decade. Most of the best players in the world are here and with the tournament kicking off on Wednesday, Jason and Frank went through some of the big storylines for each of the four countries taking part.Finland has lost a handful of key blueliners in the weeks leading up to the event and now they have a defense corp that is barely NHL level, nevermind up to par with the other groups in the tournament. Can they overcome that?Sweden is third on the odds board by a pretty significant margin, but do they deserve more respect? A lot of attention is given to the Swedes strong blueline which features a handful of future Hall of Famers but as Frank says, don't sleep on their forward group, which has some elite scorers playing in the bottom six.USA got dealt a big injury blow with the absence of Quinn Hughes but their blueline is still deep and their forward group has some elite talent at the top. They also have the best goaltender in the tournament in Connor Hellebuyck. Will that be the difference maker? Finally, they talked about the duo of Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon as they will look to compete on the same team for the first time since they came to the NHL. Sidney Crosby is there too after a brief injury scare. Canada's depth is unmatched but the big question mark comes between the pipes. After they finished going through all four teams, Tyler popped in for a 4Nations themed edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about who could lead the tournament in scoring and more.To wrap, they quickly hit on a few NHL stories like what the Dallas Stars could do with the LTIR space they're getting with Miro Heiskanen.4:00 - Finlands injuries8:30 - Sweden's chances10:30 - USA without Quinn Hughes19:00 - Canada's big guns27:20 - Fill in the Blank33:50 - Stars, their LTIR space & Seth JonesWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Frank Seravalli of DFO joins the show to help preview the 4 Nations Faceoff
After his week-long hiatus, Jason Gregor returned to the podcast as he and Frank Seravalli were re-united for episode 357. To begin the pod, Gregor finally got a chance to give his take on the Mikko Rantanen trade and that led to some talk about whether or not he thinks Rantanen will eventually extend in Carolina. From there, they talked about a few other things that Gregor missed over the last 10 days including the big salary cap increases that are coming over the next few seasons. That led Frank to start wondering what the Jets will end up doing with Kyle Connor, who is eligible to sign an extension this summer. The guys debated whether or not he's considered an elite player and then threw around some contract comparables. They also talked about the Jets deadline plans & the recent player poll that saw a high percentage of players say the Jets are the spot they'd least like to play.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about Marcus Pettersson's extension in Vancouver, the chances of either Bowen Byram or Casey Mittelstadt being traded for a second straight trade deadline and what the Los Angeles Kings and Rob Blake need to do ahead of March 7th.To wrap up the show, they stayed in the Pacific Divsion and talked about the Vegas Golden Knight's struggles. Jack Eichel has been scoring but their team is very top heavy and Frank wondered if that will change with the addition of Brandon Saad. They also touched on what the Oilers could be looking to accomplish ahead of the deadline.Frank also gave his Super Bowl prediction for his Philadelphia Eagles.1:20 - Rantanen's future18:00 - Kyle Connor's future27:40 - Jets deadline plans36:00 - Buy or Sell (Pettersson extension, Byram/Mittelstadt, Kings deadline plans)47:55 - Golden Knights struggles51:50 - Oilers need for speed57:00 - Brock Nelson updateWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Frank is back with a fresh episode of The DFO Rundown and with Jason Gregor still on holidays, he was joined today by Craig Button from TSN. The two of them kicked things off by talking about the first of three big trades from the weekend: the JT Miller trade. It felt inevitable that Miller would end up back in New York and finally after weeks of rumours, the Canucks pulled the trigger on the deal. They got back a decent return that included a first-round pick, which their front office promptly flipped to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenseman Marcus Pettersson and forward Drew O'Connor. The guys broke down how Miller has looked back in a Rangers jersey and also the Canucks decision to add Pettersson. They also talked about Elias Pettersson's future in Vancouver and whether or not the Canucks are set on keeping him, or if they could have another big trade up their sleeves. The Canucks weren't the only team who made a big splash this weekend either. The Dallas Stars acquired Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a package of draft picks. The guys talked about whether or not this was the right move by the Stars considering how much cap they took on and they also touched on the job that Sharks GM Mike Grier is doing as he continues to rebuild his roster.Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Fill in the Blank where he asked the guys about the Rangers' playoff chances, Casey Mittelstadt's availability and how many games Ryan Hartman will get.To wrap up the show, Frank got Craig's take on the Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning, who seem to be going in opposite directions.1:35 - Miller returns to the Rangers5:05 - Canucks add another Pettersson16:20 - Stars add Granlund & Ceci29:25 - Flames add Frost & Farabee39:55 - Fill in the Blank51:20 - Red Wings stay hotWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team?
