The Priestess of Motherhood Podcast with Dania Foster
My guest today is Army veteran and artist Dillon Krueger. He has crafted a heartfelt children's book, Why We Stand, to teach the next generation about the significance of the National Anthem. Dillon, who served in the United States Army Infantry and was deployed to Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom in 2011, wrote Why We Stand for his three sons—Liam, Maddox, and Asher. Ladies and gentlemen, WHY WE STAND is beautifully written and illustrated, the story follows an American bald eagle as he takes his son on a journey across the country, teaching him the history of the Anthem, including the War of 1812 and the Battle of Baltimore. The book also features vibrant illustrations of some of America's most iconic monuments. In a time when the meaning of the National Anthem and the American flag is often debated, Dillon's book offers a compelling way for parents to spark conversations about patriotism and respect with their children. Published through Dillon's veteran-owned company, Real Patriot Publishing, Why We Stand is printed in the USA and available for $20 at PatrioticKidsBooks.com. I encourage everyone to explore this meaningful book and join Dillon's mission to promote patriotism among America's youth. #childrensbook #newbook #military #veteran #nationalanthem #militaryservice #army #navy #marines #airforce #greenberet #armyrangers #blueangels #afghanistan #iraq

Just in time for Hanukkah, comes a century-old-tale of a young Jewish boy's courage to take on an adult's responsibilities as chief light keeper in his Russian shtetl. It's the true story of Ottawa's Samuel Saslove, who stepped up to keep his community's brand new electric street lights working, at the tender age of ten. Saslove arrived in Canada in the 1920s and while he didn't divulge much about his experiences growing up in “the old country”, his daughter, Sheila Baslaw, preserved those memories for decades. Now, at 92, Baslaw has found a whole new audience for her father's inspiring tale of bravery and resilience. Her debut children's book “The Light Keeper”, co-written with Karen Levine of “Hana's Suitcase” fame, has just been published by Second Story Press and is already a Heather's Pick at Indigo. While Baslaw's father did have to overcome antisemitism–and the persecution of Jews in Czarist Russia that sparked mass emigration to this country in the 1900s–her book's message deliberately highlights the universal challenges many of her young readers could face. On today's episode of The CJN Daily, Sheila Baslaw joins along with her co-author to explain why it's never too late to learn a new skill. What we talked about: Learn more and buy 'The Light Keeper' book at Second Story Press. Read more about Hana's Suitcase, the true story of the Brady family, on The CJN Daily. Mariko Clark and Rachel Eleanor are the creators of the new Children's Bible, The Book of Belonging. It's a book of Bible stories for kind and contemplative kids, where they create space for wonder, contemplation, and identity, recognizing that everyone belongs. They share it's origin story (beginning with Mariko's daughter asking if God loves boys more than girls because of the representation she was experiencing in her own Children's Bible), how the process of creating it has affected each of them, why they chose to have created some visual depictions of God, and the thoughtful reasons they chose to utilize people's Hebrew names rather than their anglicized names in their stories. I couldn't be more excited for this to be out in the world when it releases on September 24.
